The right alternative depends on what the HP Chromebook 14c is missing. For more built-in storage in a similar convertible, HP lists the Chromebook Plus x360 14c-ce0385nr with an 8GB RAM and 512GB SSD configuration. For a 512GB clamshell option, Google announced an Acer Chromebook Plus 514 configuration with 8GB RAM and an Intel Core i3. For more memory and a reviewed performance profile, TechRadar tested a Lenovo Chromebook Plus 14 with 16GB RAM and 256GB storage. These are different configurations and form factors, so check the exact model code, ports, and regional listing before choosing.

Start by identifying what your HP Chromebook 14c actually needs

“HP Chromebook 14c” is a family name, not a complete specification. The HP support page for the 14c-na0000 series lists two USB-C ports, one USB-A port, and a headset/microphone combo jack. That layout is specific to the cited series; it should not be assumed for every 14c. HP’s catalog lists the Chromebook Plus x360 14c-ce0385nr, a different model code, with an 8GB RAM and 512GB SSD configuration. A shared “14c” label does not establish that the machines have the same ports, internal layout, or upgrade options.

Before comparing alternatives, find the full model number on the laptop’s label, in its system information, or on the original retail listing. Then define the problem in practical terms: do you need room for more offline files, a specific connector for a monitor or accessory, or more capacity for simultaneous apps and demanding tasks? The answers point to different products. Storage capacity, port count, and performance are not interchangeable improvements.

  • Storage: Compare the capacity and type actually listed for the exact configuration. A 512GB SSD, 512GB unspecified storage, and 256GB UFS are not the same specification.
  • Ports: Name the connector you need—such as a second USB-A port or HDMI—and verify that it is on the exact SKU. A laptop with newer hardware may still have the same or fewer useful ports.
  • Performance: Compare complete configurations, including processor and RAM. The available review results for one Lenovo configuration are useful context, but they are not a direct head-to-head test against every HP 14c.
  • Form factor: Decide whether you want a clamshell or a convertible touchscreen. A convertible can preserve the 14c’s flexible design, while a clamshell may be a better fit if tablet-style use is unnecessary.

Best for more built-in storage: HP Chromebook Plus x360 14c-ce0385nr

HP’s product catalog lists the Chromebook Plus x360 14c-ce0385nr with 8GB RAM, a 512GB SSD, an Intel Core 3 processor, and a 2K touchscreen. Among the options covered here, it is the clearest documented choice for someone who wants substantially more built-in storage while keeping a 14-inch convertible format. Its model code matters: it is not the 14c-na0000 series described on HP’s support page, and the shared 14c family name does not mean every specification carries over.

Why this one fits a storage-first need

The catalog explicitly identifies a 512GB SSD, so the capacity and storage type are both documented for this model. That is a more concrete basis for choosing it than a product description that only says “more storage.” The 8GB RAM and Intel Core 3 are the listed configuration facts; they should not be treated as proof that it will outperform a particular 14c with a different processor or configuration.

What to verify before ordering

Confirm that a listing is for model 14c-ce0385nr and that it names the 512GB SSD configuration. Check the port list on that same listing or the matching manufacturer specification: the evidence for this model cited here does not establish its ports. Do not use the 14c-na0000 port list as a substitute. Current stock and local pricing vary by retailer and region and are not established by HP’s catalog entry.

Best storage-focused clamshell candidate: Acer Chromebook Plus 514

Google’s 2024 Chromebook announcement described an Acer Chromebook Plus 514 configuration with 512GB storage, 8GB RAM, and an Intel Core i3 processor. Google also described it as a 14-inch touchscreen clamshell. The announcement makes it a reasonable candidate for a reader who wants a conventional laptop shape and a listed 512GB configuration, rather than a convertible.

The announcement does not establish the storage type or a complete port list in the details available here. It is also a 2024 product announcement, not confirmation of today’s stock, price, or the configuration currently sold in a particular country. Before buying, match the retailer’s full model number and specification against the storage capacity, memory, processor, screen, and ports you actually need. Do not assume that every Chromebook Plus 514 listing has the announced 512GB configuration.

Best documented performance-oriented option: Lenovo Chromebook Plus 14

TechRadar’s review, published in September 2025, tested a Lenovo Chromebook Plus 14 configured with a MediaTek Kompanio Ultra 910 processor (eight cores, 2.1GHz), 16GB LPDDR5x RAM, and 256GB UFS 4.0 storage. Its display was a 14-inch 1920×1200 OLED touchscreen. Of the candidates in this comparison, it has the strongest documented memory configuration and the most detailed published benchmark evidence.

What the review benchmarks do—and do not—show

TechRadar reported Jetstream2 at 288.364, Kraken at 398.8ms, and Speedometer 3.1 at 26.6 (±0.45) for its review unit. These are results from the reviewer’s test setup, not measurements from a controlled comparison with a specified HP Chromebook 14c. They can help characterize the reviewed Lenovo configuration, but they do not establish how it will perform against every 14c, with a different browser workload, or under a reader’s particular apps.

The 16GB of RAM is double the 8GB configurations listed for the HP x360 and the announced Acer 514. More memory can be relevant when a user keeps many tabs or apps open, but memory alone is not a universal performance ranking. The Lenovo’s 256GB UFS 4.0 storage is also less capacity than the documented 512GB choices above, so it is not the straightforward pick for someone whose primary complaint is drive space.

Ports and price positioning

The reviewed Lenovo has two USB-C ports that support charging and an external display, one USB-A port, and a headset jack. That is four listed interfaces, but it does not make it a high-port-count option. If you need multiple USB-A devices connected at once or a built-in HDMI port, the documented port list does not show those connections; verify the exact listing rather than counting USB-C as a replacement for every connector.

TechRadar characterized the Chromebook as expensive for a Chromebook. No current regional price is established here, so use the review’s assessment as a value caution, not as a live price comparison. The Lenovo is best considered when its 16GB configuration, display, and reviewed performance profile matter more than maximizing storage or connector count.

Consider these alternatives only after checking the exact configuration

Acer Chromebook Spin 714

Google’s announcement describes the Spin 714 as a convertible with an Intel Core Ultra processor. That makes it relevant if you want a flexible touchscreen design and are looking for an Intel Core Ultra option. The cited announcement does not establish the exact storage, RAM, or ports for the configuration you might buy. Confirm those details on the matching regional SKU before treating it as a fix for low storage or a missing connector.

ASUS Chromebook Plus CX34

Google describes the Chromebook Plus CX34 as a 14-inch clamshell with a 13th Gen Intel Core i5 option. It may suit someone specifically looking for a clamshell with that processor option, but the cited announcement does not supply the exact storage, memory, or port configuration needed to prove it solves a particular 14c shortfall. Check the exact model and local listing rather than extrapolating from the processor option.

HP Chromebook Plus 15.6-inch

TechRadar’s Chromebook roundup lists a 15.6-inch HP Chromebook Plus configuration with an Intel Core i3-N305, 8GB LPDDR5 RAM, and 128GB UFS storage. It may be relevant if a larger screen is the main goal, but the listed 128GB is not an improvement over a 512GB configuration. The roundup also cautions against intensive software workloads, so the model should not be presented as a performance solution for demanding use on the evidence cited here.

How Chromebook Plus requirements relate to the choice

Google’s Chromebook Plus eligibility page, accessed October 13, 2026, includes hardware thresholds such as at least 8GB RAM and 128GB storage, as well as processor, camera, and display criteria. Those thresholds help explain the baseline hardware associated with the Chromebook Plus designation, but they are not a complete buying recommendation. Meeting the listed memory and storage thresholds alone does not establish that a specific model is eligible, nor does a product’s hardware description by itself prove model eligibility. Google names eligible device models on its page; check that list for the exact model rather than inferring eligibility from two specifications.

Eligibility also does not answer whether a Chromebook has the storage capacity or ports you need. A device at 128GB can meet a stated threshold and still be a poor fit for a person seeking more local file space. Likewise, a Chromebook Plus label does not guarantee a particular connector layout or the same performance across different processor families.

Choose by the problem you need to solve

If local file space is the main problem

  1. Write down the storage capacity and type in your current 14c’s exact specification.
  2. Prioritize a listing that explicitly states a larger capacity. The HP 14c-ce0385nr catalog entry documents a 512GB SSD; Google’s 2024 announcement documents a 512GB Acer 514 configuration, but not its storage type.
  3. Match the product name and full model code on the retailer listing to the configuration you intend to purchase. Do not rely on a family name or an image alone.

If a missing port is the main problem

  1. Identify the device you need to plug in and its connector: for example, USB-A, USB-C, or HDMI.
  2. Check the exact 14c SKU first. HP’s support page lists two USB-C, one USB-A, and a headset/microphone combo jack for the 14c-na0000 series only.
  3. Compare the target laptop’s manufacturer or retailer port list, including whether USB-C supports charging or external display if those functions matter. Among the sourced details here, those USB-C capabilities are stated for the reviewed Lenovo Chromebook Plus 14.
  4. If a laptop otherwise fits but lacks a connector, consider whether an appropriate hub or adapter could address the specific need. Confirm compatibility for the device and function before relying on an accessory; no particular accessory compatibility is established here.

If performance or multitasking is the main problem

  1. Record the current processor and RAM, then describe the workload that feels slow—such as many open tabs, video calls, or a specific app—rather than assuming storage capacity is the cause.
  2. Compare complete configurations. The Lenovo review unit has 16GB LPDDR5x RAM and a named processor; the HP x360 and announced Acer 514 configurations list 8GB RAM with different processor families.
  3. Use benchmark figures only as results for the reviewed Lenovo test setup. They are not direct comparative results against your particular HP model.
  4. Check the exact configuration and regional availability before deciding. The evidence here does not support a universal ranking across the different processor families.

Buying checks that prevent a mismatched Chromebook

  • Full model code: Confirm the complete SKU, especially when a product name covers multiple configurations or generations.
  • Storage details: Verify both capacity and type when the listing provides them; do not treat 512GB SSD and 512GB storage with unspecified type as identical descriptions.
  • RAM and processor: Make sure the numbers and processor name apply to the exact unit for sale, not a different configuration in the same family.
  • Connector checklist: Count the ports you will actually use and check functions such as charging or external-display support, not just the number of USB-C ports.
  • Design: Confirm convertible versus clamshell, screen size, and touchscreen details if those affect how you work.
  • Regional terms: Check local price, stock, warranty, and return terms on the current seller listing. No current price or stock claim for these models is established by the cited product descriptions and review.
