Best overall alternative for a lower-cost, phone-free setup: Dreamegg Sunrise 2. It combines a sunrise alarm, night-light and sound machine without requiring a monthly subscription or a phone connection every night, according to Tom’s Guide’s review. Choose Lumie Bodyclock Glow 150 when physical controls and a bedside-lamp design matter more; choose Philips SmartSleep HF3650/60 for a documented 30-minute sunrise, sunset simulation and light-guided breathing. Hatch Restore 3 remains the better fit if you want Hatch’s integrated routines and are comfortable with optional Hatch+ content.
At a glance: which Restore 3 alternative fits you?
These clocks overlap in their basic job—light-based waking and bedtime audio—but they make different trade-offs. The most important decision is whether you want a broad app-based routine library or a self-contained bedside device that works from buttons and local sounds.
| Model | Best fit | Phone and subscription expectation | Distinctive functions documented by the cited sources |
|---|---|---|---|
| Dreamegg Sunrise 2 | Lower-cost sunrise, night-light and sound-machine combination | Tom’s Guide says it can be used without a monthly subscription or nightly phone connection | Sunrise alarm, night light and sleep sounds |
| Lumie Bodyclock Glow 150 | People who want physical controls and a lamp-like bedside unit | Tom’s Guide says no smartphone connection or ongoing subscription is required | Sunrise and sunset simulation, 10 calming sleep/wake sounds, audible alarm, night light and bedside lamp |
| Lumie Bodyclock Shine 300 | Heavy sleepers or anyone prioritising a brighter morning light | Check the exact regional model and current requirements | Tom’s Guide’s comparison identifies it as brighter than Sunrise 2 and as a higher-priced Lumie model |
| Philips SmartSleep HF3650/60 | Readers who want a timed sunrise plus breathing guidance | Manufacturer specifications describe built-in lights and sounds; subscription terms are not stated on the cited page | 30-minute red-to-orange-to-yellow sunrise, sunset simulation, multiple lights and sounds, RelaxBreathe |
| Beurer WL 65 Wake+Charge | Anyone who wants overnight phone charging built into the alarm | Subscription and sound-library details are not established in the cited sources | Sunrise alarm with phone-charging function |
Model names are not interchangeable. Dreamegg Sunrise 1+ appears in a separate Woman & Home guide, while the Tom’s Guide review covers Sunrise 2; the available sources do not establish that the two Dreamegg models have identical hardware or features.
What Hatch Restore 3 does—and what an alternative must replace
Hatch positions Restore 3 as a combined sunrise alarm, bedtime light and sleep-audio device. Its official product page describes phone-free controls and audio designed for sleep. The central experience is a routine: light and sound can be arranged for winding down, sleeping and waking rather than treating the alarm as an isolated feature.
#1 Best Overall
- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Hatch also sells an expanded Hatch+ content option. The official page accessed for this comparison listed a 30-day trial, then $5.99 per month or $59.99 per year. Those are time-sensitive prices, and the included device content should be distinguished from the larger subscription library. You can use Restore 3’s core alarm and sleep functions without assuming that every piece of Hatch+ audio is included.
Hatch’s current product page showed Restore 3 at $169.99 when checked; a separate Hatch support comparison rounded the figure to $169. Treat both as snapshots rather than a guaranteed current price. The same support page listed Hatch Sleep Clock at $249 and described contactless tracking as its extra feature. Sleep Clock is a same-brand upgrade, not a direct substitute for someone specifically trying to move away from Restore 3.
Dreamegg Sunrise 2: the simplest subscription-free substitute
Tom’s Guide describes Sunrise 2 as three devices in one: a sunrise alarm, a night light and a sleep sound machine. Its reviewer specifically reports using it without paying a monthly subscription and without connecting a phone each night. That makes it the clearest match for a reader whose objection to Restore 3 is recurring content cost or bedside phone dependence.
What you get
- A light-based wake-up alarm.
- A night-light function for evening use.
- Sleep sounds from the clock’s sound-machine feature.
- Operation that, according to the cited review, does not require a monthly plan or nightly smartphone connection.
Where it makes sense
Choose Sunrise 2 when the priority is a practical light-and-sound routine at a smaller budget. It is also a sensible choice for a guest room, a child’s room or any bedside location where leaving a phone nearby is undesirable.
Limits to keep in mind
The cited material does not establish the exact size of its audio library, the maximum brightness, or a specific sunrise duration. Do not assume that its sound selection matches Hatch’s broader catalog or that its light is as bright as Lumie Shine 300. If those details determine whether you wake reliably, verify the regional specification before buying.
Lumie Bodyclock Glow 150 and Shine 300: physical controls and brighter-light options
Lumie’s Bodyclock line is aimed at people who want a dedicated bedside clock rather than an app-led routine. The Glow 150 review identifies it as a sunrise and sunset alarm, audible alarm, sound machine, night light and bedside lamp. It includes 10 calming sleep and wake sounds and physical controls on the unit.

- 5-in-1 USB-C Hub: Experience comprehensive connectivity featuring a Power Delivery input, two USB-A 2.0 ports, a USB-A 3.0 port, and an HDMI port. (Note: The USB-C power delivery input port is only for connecting an external wall charger to power your laptop and cannot power peripheral devices.)
- 90W Pass-Through Charging: Achieve optimal charging with 90W pass-through power to your laptop, supported by a total input of 100W, with the hub reserving 10W for operational efficiency. (Note: Wall charger not included.)
- Quick Data Transfers: Accelerate your productivity with rapid data transfers using a high-speed 5Gbps USB 3.0 port and two 480Mbps USB 2.0 ports.
- 4K HDMI Display: Enhance your visual experience with a hub capable of delivering 4K resolution at 30Hz in both mirror and extend modes. Please note that this hub is compatible with MacBook (macOS 12 and newer), Windows 10 and 11, ChromeOS, and laptops equipped with DP Alt Mode and Power Delivery. Note: This device is not compatible with Linux.
- What You Get: Anker USB-C Hub (5-in-1, 4K HDMI), welcome guide, 18-month warranty, and our friendly customer service.
Glow 150: the straightforward, phone-free model
Tom’s Guide says Glow 150 does not need a smartphone connection and that its features do not require an ongoing subscription. That is useful if you want to set the alarm once, leave the phone charging elsewhere and make adjustments with buttons at the bedside.
The sunset simulation gives Glow 150 a wind-down function as well as a morning one. Its lamp form can serve ordinary bedside lighting, so it does not have to be used only during the programmed wake period. The 10 documented calming sounds provide a defined, finite selection rather than an open-ended streaming library.
Shine 300: when brightness is the deciding factor
Tom’s Guide’s comparison calls Shine 300 the brighter option and says it may suit heavy sleepers or people who want a stronger morning light. The same coverage presents it as a higher-priced Lumie model than Glow 150. Exact brightness, pricing and availability can vary by country, so confirm the local specification and model name.
Glow 150 and Shine 300 are separate products. A listing that says “Lumie Bodyclock” without the model number is not enough to establish which brightness, controls or sound set you are getting.
Philips SmartSleep HF3650/60: a timed sunrise with breathing guidance
The manufacturer’s page for Philips SmartSleep HF3650/60 describes a 30-minute simulated sunrise. The light progresses from morning red to orange and then bright yellow. That explicit duration is useful if you want a gradual half-hour wake period rather than an unspecified fade.

- Sunset simulation: a decreasing-light routine for evening use.
- RelaxBreathe: light-guided breathing intended to pace a relaxation exercise.
- Multiple lights and sounds: Philips documents more than one option, but the cited specification does not establish a library size or claim parity with Hatch’s audio catalog.
HF3650/60 is the strongest alternative in this group if breathing guidance or a clearly stated sunrise sequence matters more than app-based content. The 30-minute figure is a manufacturer description, not an independent measurement of wake-up effectiveness.

- Sleek 7-in-1 USB-C Hub: Features an HDMI port, two USB-A 3.0 ports, and a USB-C data port, each providing 5Gbps transfer speeds. It also includes a USB-C PD input port for charging up to 100W and dual SD and TF card slots, all in a compact design.
- Flawless 4K@60Hz Video with HDMI: Delivers exceptional clarity and smoothness with its 4K@60Hz HDMI port, making it ideal for high-definition presentations and entertainment. (Note: Only the HDMI port supports video projection; the USB-C port is for data transfer only.)
- Double Up on Efficiency: The two USB-A 3.0 ports and a USB-C port support a fast 5Gbps data rate, significantly boosting your transfer speeds and improving productivity.
- Fast and Reliable 85W Charging: Offers high-capacity, speedy charging for laptops up to 85W, so you spend less time tethered to an outlet and more time being productive.
- What You Get: Anker USB-C Hub (7-in-1), welcome guide, 18-month warranty, and our friendly customer service.
Beurer WL 65 Wake+Charge: choose it for charging, not an assumed audio library
Woman & Home describes Beurer WL 65 Wake+Charge as a sunrise alarm that charges a phone during the night, and Beurer’s UK site identifies the WL 65 Wake+Charge as a product. That charging function is the reason to consider it alongside Restore 3 alternatives.
The cited material does not establish that WL 65’s sleep sounds are comparable in variety to Restore 3, Glow 150 or any other model here. If sound selection is a primary requirement, treat charging as an extra and verify the exact audio features of the regional version before choosing it.
Compare the features that actually change the experience
Sleep audio: fixed sounds versus a larger content library
Restore 3’s appeal includes sleep-focused audio and the option of expanding the library through Hatch+. Glow 150 has 10 documented calming sleep and wake sounds. Dreamegg Sunrise 2 is described as a sound machine, while Philips HF3650/60 is specified as having multiple sounds. Neither cited source gives a count that can be directly compared with Hatch’s catalog.

For changing routines, guided content or a larger selection, Restore 3’s optional subscription is the relevant distinction—but only if you are willing to maintain that subscription.
Sunrise and sunset behavior
Philips is the only model in the cited material with a stated 30-minute sunrise duration. Lumie Glow 150 provides both sunrise and sunset simulation, while Shine 300 is described as brighter than Dreamegg Sunrise 2. The available evidence does not give a common brightness scale or identical timing settings across models, so numbers from one manufacturer cannot be treated as a cross-brand ranking.
Controls and phone dependence
Dreamegg Sunrise 2 and Lumie Glow 150 are specifically described as usable without a nightly phone connection. Glow 150 has physical controls on the device. Restore 3 also advertises phone-free controls, but its broader content proposition is tied to Hatch’s ecosystem. Check whether initial setup, routine editing or content access requires an app for the exact product and region you are considering.

Subscriptions
Tom’s Guide reports that Sunrise 2 and Glow 150 do not require an ongoing monthly subscription for their described functions. Hatch+ is an optional expanded service with the 30-day trial and prices listed above. Philips and Beurer’s cited pages do not establish a recurring fee. “No subscription” does not mean “unlimited content”; it may mean a fixed set of sounds and routines stored on the device.
Choose by priority rather than by brand
If you want the closest low-commitment replacement
Start with Dreamegg Sunrise 2. It covers the three functions most people seek—sunrise light, night light and sleep sounds—while the cited review says it works without a monthly payment or nightly phone connection.
If you want a clock you can operate entirely at the bedside
Choose Lumie Glow 150. Its physical controls, lamp form, sunset routine and 10 documented sounds make the operating model clear and self-contained.
If you are a heavy sleeper or need stronger light
Investigate Lumie Shine 300 first. The comparative review identifies it as brighter than Sunrise 2. Confirm the local model and price, because Shine 300 and Glow 150 are not the same device.
If a defined 30-minute sunrise matters
Choose Philips SmartSleep HF3650/60. Its manufacturer documentation specifies the red-to-orange-to-yellow, 30-minute progression and adds sunset simulation and RelaxBreathe.

Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. How to set up a sunrise alarm for useful results
- Pick a realistic wake time. Set the alarm for the time you need to stand up, not the time you want the light to begin. The device’s sunrise period then works backward from that point.
- Place the light where you can see it. Keep the clock on a stable bedside surface with an unobstructed line toward your face. Do not cover the lamp with fabric or place it behind a tall object.
- Choose the sound separately from the light. Start with a quiet or neutral sound. Increase volume only if the light alone does not wake you; a loud alarm can undermine a gradual wake routine.
- Use sunset simulation before judging the alarm. If your model supports it, schedule the evening fade at a time that matches when you intend to stop stimulating activities. A sunrise alarm cannot compensate for a consistently shifting bedtime.
- Test on a non-critical morning. Run the routine on a weekend or day with flexibility. Confirm that the time zone, alarm volume, light intensity and backup alarm behave as expected.
- Keep a conventional backup while adjusting. Use a separate alarm for the first few days, especially if you must wake for work, travel or medication.
Common buying and setup mistakes
- Buying by product family name alone: Sunrise 1+, Sunrise 2, Glow 150 and Shine 300 are distinct model references. Match the full model number on the listing and packaging.
- Assuming every sound is included: Hatch separates device functions from Hatch+ content. Standalone clocks generally provide a fixed selection; verify what is stored locally.
- Treating brightness claims as interchangeable: “Brighter” in a review is a comparative judgment, not a universal lux rating. Philips’ 30-minute timing also does not state brightness in a common industry scale.
- Ignoring regional differences: prices, plugs, names, availability and app support can vary between the United States, United Kingdom and other markets. Do not convert dollars and pounds into a direct value ranking.
- Putting the light too far away: A sunrise lamp hidden across the room may be less noticeable than one positioned correctly at the bedside. Follow the manufacturer’s placement guidance for the exact model.
- Expecting treatment of a sleep disorder: These products are wake-up and wind-down aids, not proven treatments for insomnia, circadian-rhythm disorders or sleep apnea.
What the available evidence says about effectiveness
Hatch reports that 10% of respondents said their sleep improved, 12% said they enjoyed waking up more and 11% said they felt better rested in its biannual Sleep Wellness Impact survey of 1,000 Restore and Restore 2 customers conducted in October 2023. Those figures are vendor-survey results, not an independent clinical trial, and they do not prove that Restore 3 or any alternative causes better sleep.
The cited sources do not provide an independent head-to-head efficacy statistic comparing Restore 3 with Dreamegg, Lumie, Philips or Beurer. A brighter light, a longer sunrise or a larger sound library may fit your preferences, but none guarantees that you will wake more easily or sleep better.
Recommended Free Tools
If you have persistent difficulty falling asleep, repeated nighttime awakenings, very loud snoring, gasping, or severe daytime sleepiness, discuss those symptoms with a qualified clinician rather than relying on a bedside alarm as treatment.
Price, availability and model checks before purchase
Prices and stock change faster than product features. Hatch’s official page showed Restore 3 at $169.99 when accessed, while its support comparison rounded it to $169; Hatch+ was listed at $5.99 per month or $59.99 per year after a 30-day trial. These figures should be rechecked at checkout.
The cited reviews do not provide a stable, directly comparable current price for every alternative. Retail listings may also use different regional names, bundles or generations. Before ordering, confirm:
- The complete model identifier, such as “HF3650/60” rather than a generic Philips SmartSleep label.
- Whether the power adapter matches your country.
- The included sound list and whether any content is paid.
- Whether setup or routine editing requires an app.
- The return period and warranty in your region.
Bottom line by reader type
Buy Dreamegg Sunrise 2 for the most straightforward lower-cost, phone-free combination of sunrise light, night light and sleep sounds. Buy Lumie Glow 150 for physical controls, sunset simulation and a bedside-lamp design; move up to Shine 300 if brightness for a heavy sleeper is the priority. Buy Philips SmartSleep HF3650/60 for a specified 30-minute sunrise and light-guided breathing. Choose Beurer WL 65 Wake+Charge when charging is the feature that makes the difference. Keep Hatch Restore 3 when its integrated routines and optional Hatch+ library are worth the recurring cost and ecosystem.
