For most new buyers, the PDP RIFFMASTER is the safest choice for Fortnite Festival because Epic’s published compatibility table names the PlayStation and Xbox versions for their corresponding consoles, with the Xbox version also listed for PC. It uses wireless gameplay through a USB dongle and charges over USB-C. If you already own a guitar, compatibility depends on its exact model, platform edition and receiver; Epic does not say that every Rock Band or Guitar Hero controller works.
The CRKD Gibson Les Paul is a documented alternative with wired USB-C, Bluetooth and 2.4 GHz connection modes, but its Xbox and multi-platform editions behave differently. The comparison below separates confirmed platform support from independently reported use so you can buy or reuse the right hardware without assuming that a similar-looking guitar will work.

Epic’s compatibility information comes from its April 2024 Fortnite Festival announcement. Treat it as the official list of models and platforms named there, not as proof that every later or older instrument is supported. Check for a newer Epic compatibility list before purchasing used hardware.
What Epic officially supports
Epic announced that Rock Band 4 guitar controllers can be used for Pro Lead and Pro Bass parts on PlayStation, Xbox and PC, but the compatibility table beside that statement narrows the support to particular Fender Jaguar and Stratocaster models and platform editions. The safest interpretation is model-specific: the words “Rock Band guitar” are not a universal compatibility guarantee.

The same announcement identifies the PDP RIFFMASTER PlayStation version for PS5 and PS4, and the Xbox version for Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One. Epic also lists the Xbox/PC version for PC. That distinction matters when shopping: a PlayStation RIFFMASTER is not a substitute for the Xbox version on an Xbox console, and selecting the correct console family is part of the compatibility decision.
What is not established
- There is no evidence here that every Rock Band generation, Guitar Hero guitar, third-party adapter or community-modified instrument works.
- Epic’s table does not establish a PC use case for the named PlayStation 4 Fender guitars.
- The CRKD Gibson Les Paul is not presented as an Epic-listed model in the same way as the RIFFMASTER and the named Rock Band 4 guitars; its Festival behavior comes from a TechRadar hands-on review.
- No controlled comparison establishes winners for latency, comfort, durability or long-term value.
PDP RIFFMASTER: the straightforward new-controller choice
The RIFFMASTER is the clearest starting point when you do not already own a compatible instrument. PDP’s product information describes a wireless USB receiver and a USB-C charging cable. The cable is identified as a charging cable, so the controller should be described as wireless for gameplay rather than as a wired controller with an optional wireless mode.
PlayStation version
Epic lists the PlayStation RIFFMASTER for both PS5 and PS4. Choose this version when your Festival setup is on either of those consoles. The manufacturer page also lists Fortnite Festival and Rock Band 4 among compatible software, but the console-generation and platform match should still be checked on the current product listing before ordering.

Epic lists the Xbox RIFFMASTER for Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One. PDP’s specifications additionally identify Windows 10 and Windows 11 support, while Epic’s table lists the Xbox/PC version for PC. For a Windows purchase, select the Xbox/PC variant rather than assuming that a PlayStation model will work through the same receiver.

Range and battery claims
The PDP/Turtle Beach product page specifies a 30-foot low-latency wireless connection and up to 36 hours of play per charge. PlayStation Direct lists the same 30-foot range and up-to-36-hour figure. These are manufacturer or retailer specifications, not independent laboratory results, so actual range and runtime can vary with surroundings, wireless interference, battery age and play volume.
Legacy Rock Band guitars: verify the exact instrument
Reusing an older guitar can be worthwhile, but the model label and platform edition are decisive. Epic’s table specifically names Rock Band 4 Fender Jaguar and Stratocaster guitars rather than approving the entire Rock Band product family.
PlayStation 4 Fender models
The listed PlayStation 4 Jaguar and Stratocaster versions are described as wireless and are associated with PS4 in Epic’s compatibility table. The source does not provide a PC use case for these models, so do not buy one expecting a plug-and-play Windows setup.

Xbox One Fender models on Xbox
The named Xbox One Jaguar and Stratocaster versions are listed for Xbox One. Confirm that the guitar is the Xbox One edition; a visually similar PlayStation instrument uses different platform hardware.

Xbox One Fender models on Windows 10
Epic explicitly requires the Microsoft Xbox One Wireless Adapter for Windows 10 when the listed Xbox One guitars are used on PC. This is a conditional accessory, not a universal solution for every wireless guitar. Verify the guitar model, adapter availability and your Windows configuration before buying a used instrument.
CRKD Gibson Les Paul: a multi-mode alternative
A 2025 TechRadar hands-on review reports Fortnite Festival use on PC with the CRKD Gibson Les Paul. The review describes three connection methods: wired USB-C, Bluetooth and a 2.4 GHz dongle. That makes it the clearest option in this comparison for readers who specifically require a wired gameplay connection, as well as those who want wireless choices.
The review distinguishes an Xbox edition from a multi-platform edition. Do not treat every Gibson Les Paul SKU as interchangeable: confirm the exact edition, intended console or PC, included receiver and current manufacturer instructions. The review’s PC result is independent reporting, not an Epic compatibility-table entry.

Wireless gameplay with wired charging
For the RIFFMASTER, the evidence supports wireless gameplay through its supplied dongle and USB-C charging. The presence of a USB-C cable does not prove that Festival accepts gameplay input over that cable. Describe the RIFFMASTER as wireless, with wired charging, unless a current official manual specifically documents USB gameplay.

True wired gameplay
The CRKD review explicitly lists wired USB-C as one of the Gibson Les Paul’s connection modes. A wired connection can be useful when you want to avoid a wireless receiver, conserve battery or use a PC without an available 2.4 GHz port. It does not remove platform-edition requirements, and the review does not provide a universal claim for every console variant.
Dongles, Bluetooth and adapters
A USB dongle, Bluetooth pairing and the Xbox One Wireless Adapter are different technologies. A receiver supplied with one guitar should not be assumed to pair with another, and the Microsoft adapter required for the listed legacy Xbox guitars is not a generic converter for all instruments. Keep the receiver associated with the controller it was designed for and follow the current platform instructions.
Choose by the device you play on
PlayStation 5 or PlayStation 4
- For a new controller, choose the PDP RIFFMASTER PlayStation version, which Epic lists for PS5 and PS4.
- If you already own a guitar, compare its exact platform edition and model name with Epic’s list; the named PS4 Fender Jaguar and Stratocaster models are the relevant legacy entries.
- Use the supplied wireless receiver as directed and charge the RIFFMASTER over USB-C; do not plan on wired RIFFMASTER gameplay based solely on the charging cable.
Xbox Series X|S or Xbox One
- Choose the PDP RIFFMASTER Xbox version. Epic lists it for both Xbox generations.
- For a used Rock Band 4 guitar, verify that it is the specifically named Xbox One Fender Jaguar or Stratocaster edition.
- Connect the instrument using its intended wireless receiver and confirm that the console recognizes it before launching Festival.
Windows PC with a new controller
- For the RIFFMASTER, select the Xbox/PC version identified by Epic and the manufacturer’s Windows 10/11 support.
- Install or update the controller and receiver software only from the current manufacturer instructions, then connect the supplied dongle directly to the PC.
- Launch Fortnite after Windows recognizes the device and test a song’s Pro Lead or Pro Bass part.
Windows 10 with a legacy Xbox guitar
- Confirm that the guitar is one of Epic’s listed Xbox One Fender Jaguar or Stratocaster models.
- Obtain the Microsoft Xbox One Wireless Adapter for Windows 10 specified by Epic.
- Pair the guitar through that adapter, check that Windows detects it, and then start Fortnite.
- If the guitar is a different generation or uses a different receiver, stop rather than assuming the same adapter will work.
PC with the CRKD Gibson Les Paul
- Confirm whether your unit is the Xbox or multi-platform edition.
- Choose one of the documented modes: wired USB-C, Bluetooth or the 2.4 GHz dongle.
- Use the connection method appropriate to the edition and follow the current setup instructions for that SKU.
- Test input in Fortnite before relying on the controller for a live event or long session.
How guitar input is used in Festival
Epic Support defines Pro Lead and Pro Bass as song parts added to all current and future Jam Tracks in Fortnite Festival. Supported keyboard-and-mouse devices, standard controllers and guitar controllers can play these parts, so buying a guitar is optional rather than a requirement for accessing Festival.
A guitar controller is most useful when you prefer fret buttons and a strum bar to ordinary controller or keyboard inputs. It does not turn every song mode into a guitar-only experience, and compatibility with the instrument remains separate from the availability of the Pro parts.

Setup checklist before your first song
- Identify the exact model name, platform edition and included receiver.
- Confirm that the console or PC appears in the official compatibility information for that model.
- Charge the guitar if it is wireless, or connect the USB cable if you are using a documented wired mode.
- Insert the correct dongle or Xbox Wireless Adapter directly into the platform rather than mixing receivers.
- Pair or connect the guitar before opening Fortnite, then check the game’s input display.
- Enter a Jam Track and select Pro Lead or Pro Bass to verify fret and strum input.
- Keep the original receiver, charging cable and platform documentation together if the controller will be transported or sold.
Troubleshooting compatibility and connection problems
The console or PC does not see the guitar
- Check that the receiver belongs to that guitar and is fully inserted.
- Charge the controller and retry pairing close to the receiver.
- On PC, confirm that you selected the Xbox/PC RIFFMASTER version or the required Xbox One Wireless Adapter for a listed legacy Xbox guitar.
- Restart the platform with the receiver connected, then test the controller before launching Fortnite again.
The guitar works in menus but not in Pro parts
Verify that you are selecting a Jam Track with Pro Lead or Pro Bass and that the part is assigned to the guitar input. Epic allows supported keyboards, standard controllers and guitars for these parts, so a menu response alone does not prove that the guitar is mapped to the intended instrument lane.
A used guitar has no receiver
Do not assume that a replacement receiver will be interchangeable. The documented Xbox legacy setup requires the Microsoft Xbox One Wireless Adapter for Windows 10, while the RIFFMASTER and CRKD use their own connection hardware. Confirm receiver requirements before buying an incomplete listing.
A charging cable is mistaken for a data connection
For the RIFFMASTER, the supplied USB-C cable is identified for charging. Use wireless gameplay unless a current official manual says otherwise. If wired play is essential, choose a controller whose documentation, such as the CRKD review’s description, explicitly lists wired USB-C input.

Buying checklist and common mistakes
- Match the platform first. A PlayStation and Xbox version can share a product name while using different compatibility hardware.
- Read the complete model label. “Rock Band guitar” is too broad; Epic’s list names particular Rock Band 4 Fender models.
- Separate gameplay from charging. A USB-C charging cable does not automatically make a wireless controller wired.
- Budget for required receivers. A missing RIFFMASTER dongle or the Xbox adapter required for a legacy PC setup can change whether a used guitar is usable.
- Check the edition of multi-platform products. The CRKD review reports different behavior for Xbox and multi-platform versions.
- Do not rely on unverified performance rankings. Published evidence here does not establish comparative latency, comfort, durability or battery performance beyond the RIFFMASTER manufacturer ratings.
- Recheck current support. Epic’s compatibility announcement is from April 2024, and platform support can change with later updates.

Buy the PDP RIFFMASTER in the version matching your console or PC when you want the most clearly documented new option. Choose the PlayStation model for PS5/PS4 and the Xbox model for Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One or the Epic-listed PC setup. Reuse a legacy guitar only after matching its exact Fender model and receiver requirements to Epic’s table. Choose the CRKD Gibson Les Paul when its edition fits your platform and you specifically want documented wired USB-C as well as Bluetooth and 2.4 GHz options. In every case, compatibility is determined by the exact model and platform—not by the fact that a controller resembles a guitar.
