There is no verified “best preset” for Planet Zoo 2 yet. The official PC listings publish minimum and recommended hardware, but they do not document the released game’s graphics menu or provide setting-by-setting benchmarks. The safest approach is to compare your complete system with those tiers, then tune only the controls that actually appear in your installed build, changing one option at a time in a repeatable scene.
This guide gives you the published requirements, a practical low-end and midrange decision path, and a troubleshooting method that does not invent frame-rate promises or unverified preset names.
What the official requirements actually say
Steam and Epic list two PC tiers for Planet Zoo 2. Steam’s listing is the more detailed reference for storage and SSD wording; Epic presents matching processor, memory, graphics, DirectX and storage classes. Both listings identify Windows 10 or 11 for the minimum tier and Windows 11 for the recommended tier. The game is listed for October 13, 2026, so check the live build and any launch patches before relying on a setting guide.

How to classify your own PC before changing settings
Compare every major component, not just the graphics card. A computer can have a qualifying GPU but still fall short on its processor, operating system or storage arrangement.
Step 1: Record your hardware
- Open Windows’ system information and note the exact processor model and installed RAM.
- Open the graphics section of Windows’ display information or your graphics driver panel and record the GPU model and dedicated VRAM.
- Check whether the game drive is an SSD and whether at least 40 GB is free after allowing room for updates.
- Confirm whether you are running Windows 10, Windows 11, or an older edition. The published minimum listing names only Windows 10 and 11.
Step 2: Compare against the complete tier
If every listed category reaches the minimum row, the storefront describes your configuration as meeting its baseline. If one category is below it, the listing makes no claim that the configuration meets that baseline; it does not prove that the game cannot launch or identify a guaranteed upgrade. Reaching the recommended row indicates a higher published target, not a guaranteed frame rate.
Step 3: Identify the limiting category
- GPU or VRAM below the minimum: treat visual-quality and resolution adjustments as your first experiments, if those controls are present in the game.
- CPU below the minimum: do not assume lowering image quality will solve slow simulation or heavy zoo-management scenes.
- RAM below 16 GB: close other applications and consider a memory upgrade; the official tiers both specify 16 GB.
- Hard drive instead of SSD: the minimum listing recommends an SSD and the recommended listing requires one, so storage type is part of the published target rather than an optional cosmetic upgrade.
Best approach for a PC below the minimum tier
A below-minimum system has no official performance guarantee. You can still test the released build, but treat the result as an experiment rather than a supported configuration.

Start with the least demanding output
If the display menu exposes a lower render resolution, window mode, or quality control, begin with the least demanding choice available. Do not assume a control exists or that it has a particular name: the official pages do not document Planet Zoo 2’s graphics menu. Record the original value so you can restore it.
Reduce load one control at a time
- Load the same save or scene each time.
- Change one available graphics option.
- Play or observe the same camera view for a consistent interval.
- Note whether smoothness, hitching, image clarity and loading behavior changed.
- Keep the change only if it helps without making the image unusable, then test the next control.
This method is general PC troubleshooting, not a measured Planet Zoo 2 result. It prevents you from attributing an improvement to the wrong option and gives you a reversible configuration.

Keep background load predictable
Close browsers, launchers and recording software that you do not need. Use the same power mode and display connection for each comparison. These steps do not create extra game performance, but they reduce variables when a system is already below the published baseline.
Know when settings are not the answer
If the processor, RAM or operating system is below the minimum row, a graphics reduction may not address the limiting factor. The listings do not establish which gameplay situations bottleneck the sequel, so do not expect a particular option to fix simulation slowdowns, long pauses or crashes.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteBest approach for a PC that meets the minimum tier
A minimum-tier machine is the sensible starting point for a conservative configuration. Begin with the game’s own lowest available quality choices if the released build provides them, then raise one setting at a time while repeating the same scene test.
Use a baseline before optimizing
- Run the game after it has finished compiling or loading any first-run content.
- Choose a repeatable location, camera angle and activity in your zoo.
- Write down the displayed resolution and every graphics value you can identify.
- Change a single value, reload the same scene and compare movement, camera panning and menu responsiveness.
Do not label a collection of values as an official “low preset” unless the game itself uses that label. No official source reviewed for this guide publishes preset names or the options each preset changes.
Prioritize the trade-off you can see
When several controls are available, test the one that visibly affects your problem first. A resolution change generally alters image sharpness as well as rendering workload; a quality control may change scene detail. Because Planet Zoo 2’s menu and setting effects are not documented in the official listings, select based on what your build shows and record the result instead of applying a fixed internet recipe.

Leave headroom for busy scenes
Do not judge a configuration only in an empty habitat. Repeat your check while moving around a populated area and during the busiest activity you can reproduce. The requirements pages provide no zoo-size or frame-rate benchmark, so a setting that feels acceptable in one view may not behave the same way elsewhere.
Best approach for a midrange PC between the two tiers
Many systems sit between the published rows: for example, they may have a recommended-class GPU but a minimum-class processor, or the reverse. In that case, use the component that falls closest to the minimum as your safety limit and tune from there.
GPU stronger than CPU
Start conservatively and watch for slowdowns during simulation-heavy play rather than assuming extra graphics headroom will solve them. The available evidence does not identify Planet Zoo 2’s CPU bottlenecks, so this is a diagnostic distinction, not a tested claim about the sequel.
CPU stronger than GPU
Test the least demanding image-quality and resolution controls exposed by your build first. A higher-end processor cannot compensate for a graphics card below the published minimum, and no source provides a conversion from a particular GPU model to a target frame rate.
VRAM between the listed examples
Compare the dedicated VRAM number as well as the GPU model. The minimum examples span 6 GB and 8 GB, while recommended examples span 8 GB, 12 GB and 16 GB. Those are requirement entries, not proof that a given VRAM amount produces a specific texture quality or resolution.

A repeatable settings-testing procedure
Use this process whenever a patch, driver update or hardware change alters behavior.
- Update deliberately. Install the current game build and a stable graphics driver, then note the date and version shown by the launcher or game.
- Reset unknown tweaks. Return undocumented configuration edits to the game’s defaults before testing, so an old modification does not contaminate the comparison.
- Choose one test scene. Use the same save, camera route and zoo activity for every run.
- Change one setting. Do not combine resolution, quality and display-mode changes in one pass.
- Observe several symptoms. Record image clarity, camera movement, hitching, loading pauses and input response rather than inventing an FPS number you did not measure.
- Keep a change only when its trade-off is clear. If a control reduces visual quality without improving the problem, restore it.
- Retest after patches. A game update can alter menu behavior or performance, so a configuration that worked on launch day may need a fresh check.
This procedure is intentionally general. The official Steam and Epic pages do not publish controlled tests for individual settings, and no measured Planet Zoo 2 frame-rate data was found.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Storage, memory and operating-system checks
Storage
Reserve 40 GB of available space for the installation. Steam recommends an SSD at the minimum tier and requires one at the recommended tier. If the game is on a hard drive, moving it to an SSD aligns with the published storage guidance, but the listing does not quantify a frame-rate improvement.
System memory
Both official tiers specify 16 GB RAM. Meeting that number does not guarantee a particular zoo size or smoothness level; it simply matches the published memory requirement. If you have less, close other programs before testing and treat a memory upgrade as a broader system decision rather than a guaranteed fix.

How to decide whether an upgrade is justified
Upgrade the category that is below the minimum or furthest from the recommended row, and change one major component at a time when possible.
When the graphics card is below the minimum
The minimum graphics examples are an RTX 2060 with 6 GB VRAM, an RX 5600XT with 6 GB, or an Arc A750 with 8 GB. A card below those examples is outside the stated graphics baseline. Replacing it with a card in that class may bring the hardware comparison up to the listing, but the requirement does not show that the purchase is necessary for every system or guarantee a particular performance result.
When aiming for the recommended graphics tier
The recommended examples are an RTX 3070 with 8 GB, an RX 6700XT with 12 GB, or an Arc A770 with 16 GB. These are the publisher’s recommended options, not a promise that every zoo, resolution or graphics configuration will run identically.
When the CPU is the shortfall
The minimum processors are an Intel i7-8700K or Ryzen 5 3600; the recommended processors are an i7-10700K or Ryzen 7 5800X. If your processor is below the minimum row, lowering visual quality may leave simulation-related delays unchanged. The available official material does not identify a specific CPU upgrade as a guaranteed solution.
What is known about the game’s visual simulation
Frontier Developments’ Planet Zoo 2 team explained in an Xbox Wire feature that “In Planet Zoo 2, water dynamically reacts to animals’ movements.” The statement, published May 28, 2026, describes a feature rather than a graphics setting or a performance test. It is a reminder that visual scenes can contain dynamic effects, but it does not establish which option controls them or how much hardware they require. Read the Xbox Wire breakdown for that feature context.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Treating requirements as benchmarks. A minimum GPU entry does not mean a fixed frame rate, resolution or zoo capacity.
- Copying settings from the original Planet Zoo. The sequel’s menu and rendering behavior have not been documented by the sources used here.
- Changing several options at once. You then cannot tell which adjustment helped or hurt.
- Testing only an empty scene. Busy habitats may behave differently, and no official benchmark defines the difference.
- Ignoring CPU, RAM, storage and Windows. The official tiers are full-system requirements, not GPU-only targets.
- Assuming a lower preset exists. Verify the released build’s labels and controls before describing them as Planet Zoo 2 features.
- Making a purchase based on a promised FPS gain. No controlled setting results or frame-rate figures are published in the cited listings.
Launch-day and patch checklist
- Confirm the installed build date or version after the October 13, 2026 listing date.
- Recheck the live Steam or Epic requirements page if the publisher updates it.
- Write down the graphics menu labels visible in your build before changing anything.
- Run the same repeatable scene test after each major patch or driver change.
- Keep a backup of working settings so you can revert after an update.
The official pages currently establish the hardware tiers but not a tested settings recipe. A current-build check is therefore essential before treating any community recommendation as authoritative.
Bottom line for low-end and midrange PCs
Use the minimum and recommended rows as capability checkpoints, not performance promises. A system below minimum has no published baseline; a system that meets minimum should start with the least demanding controls exposed by its own build; and a system between the rows should tune around its weakest component. Change one option at a time in the same scene, record the visual and responsiveness trade-off, and avoid claiming a specific frame rate or preset until Planet Zoo 2’s live PC build is measured under stated test conditions.
