Start at 1280×720. Archrebel Tactics developer Ularis Badler identifies resolution as the most effective performance control and describes 1280×720 as the tested balance between image quality and speed. If frame pacing is still poor, reduce the game toward its 640×360 native resolution. Treat these as developer-tested targets, not guaranteed frame-rate settings: Archrebel Tactics is still in development, and no independent low-end benchmark or complete setting-by-setting ranking is available.
The short answer
Use this order when configuring Archrebel Tactics on an older PC:
- Confirm that the current build and your operating system meet the published minimum requirements.
- Set the display resolution to 1280×720.
- Play a busy tactical encounter, not just a quiet menu or small map.
- If movement, camera scrolling or effects still stutter, step down toward 640×360.
- Only then experiment with any other graphics controls exposed by your particular build, changing one option at a time.
The developer has specifically said, “The most effective way to gain performance is by lowering the resolution.” The same comment says the game is natively set to 640×360 and that 1280×720 was tested as the “sweet spot to maintain a good performance vs image quality.” Those statements are the strongest Archrebel-specific guidance currently available.
Why resolution matters more than a preset
Lowering resolution reduces the number of pixels the graphics hardware must shade every frame. That can help an integrated GPU or an older discrete card when the game is limited by rendering work. It can also improve frame-time consistency, which is often more noticeable than a higher average frame rate in a turn-based game: camera movement and interface transitions feel less uneven when individual frames arrive at regular intervals.

Archrebel Tactics can look like a simple 2D or pixel-art game, but its official description includes grid-based combat, destructible environments, particle and shader effects, and campaigns containing many units. Those systems can create considerably more work than a static sprite scene. The developer has also described the game as “quite heavy despite its simplistic looks” and has attributed some of the burden to Unity. Visual style alone is therefore not a reliable indicator of how much work an older CPU or GPU must perform.
A resolution change is also easier to evaluate than a collection of undocumented quality sliders. It produces an obvious, reversible result and does not require guessing whether a particular shadow, texture or post-processing option is implemented consistently in the current development build.
Use 1280×720 as the starting point
What this setting represents
1280×720 is the developer-tested compromise between clarity and performance. It is not presented as a universal target for every machine, and it does not guarantee a particular frame rate. On a system that is comfortably above the minimum, it may be unnecessarily conservative; on a system near or below the minimum, it may still be too demanding.

How to apply it
- Launch the current Archrebel Tactics build.
- Open the game’s video, display or graphics settings. The exact label can change while the game is in development.
- Choose a 1280×720 resolution if it is listed. If the game uses a separate window-size and render-resolution control, set the render resolution first and keep the window size convenient for your monitor.
- Apply the change and wait for the scene to redraw. Keep the previous setting in mind so you can revert if text or interface elements become difficult to read.
- Test an actual mission or map with several units, effects and destructible objects. Menus are not a useful performance test.
Spend enough time moving the camera, selecting units and allowing effects to appear. The goal is to judge frame-time stability during the work that makes your machine slow, rather than to judge a quiet opening screen.

When to drop to 640×360
If 1280×720 still produces severe hitching or consistently slow camera movement, reduce the resolution again. The developer identifies 640×360 as the game’s native resolution, so it is the most defensible lower target for a low-end configuration. At that size, the image will be softer or more obviously pixelated when enlarged to a modern monitor, but the reduction in rendered pixels is substantial.
Use 640×360 when stable interaction is more important than sharpness, when your graphics hardware is below the published minimum, or when a busy encounter remains uneven at 1280×720. Check unit labels, tooltips and tile boundaries after changing it. If the interface becomes unreadable, an intermediate value may be worth trying if the current build offers one, but no intermediate resolution has been identified as a developer-tested Archrebel setting.
Resolution choices at a glance
| Resolution | Best use | What to expect | Evidence status |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1280×720 | First choice for most low-end systems | Better readability than the native target while retaining a large performance reduction compared with higher resolutions | Developer-tested “sweet spot”; not an FPS guarantee |
| 640×360 | Fallback when 1280×720 still stutters | Lowest developer-mentioned target; enlarged output may look soft and text may be harder to read | Developer-described native resolution |
| Any other value | Fine-tuning when the build exposes additional choices | May provide a compromise, but image quality and performance depend on scaling and the monitor | No Archrebel-specific test result established |
How to test without fooling yourself
Turn-based games can appear fast in a menu and slow down only when a map is populated. Use a repeatable test so a setting change has meaning.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →- Choose one representative mission or save with several visible units, effects and destructible objects.
- At the current resolution, pan the camera across the busiest area, select multiple units and trigger the normal visual effects available in that situation.
- Observe both responsiveness and consistency. A high instantaneous frame rate with frequent pauses is less useful than a lower but steady result.
- Change only one setting, then repeat the same actions. Do not change resolution, operating-system power mode and several quality options simultaneously.
- Keep notes for each build. Development updates can alter rendering load, available options or default values.
If you have a frame-time graph or overlay, look for spikes during camera movement and effects rather than relying only on an average FPS number. If you do not, consistent subjective movement, selection and scrolling are still useful indicators.

What to do with other graphics options
No reliable, current Archrebel-specific ranking was established for shadows, anti-aliasing, textures, effects or post-processing. Do not assume that a generic “low” preset disables the most expensive feature in this game, and do not present a particular slider value as a proven recommendation.
If the current build exposes those controls, use a controlled sequence:
- Leave resolution at the best stable value you found.
- Record the original value of one option.
- Lower that one option, apply it and repeat the same busy-scene test.
- Keep the change only if it improves consistency without damaging tactical readability.
- Restore it if there is no measurable or observable benefit, then test the next option.
Textures can affect memory use and visual clarity; anti-aliasing and post-processing can affect rendering cost; shadows and effects may matter most in scenes that use them. Those are general graphics principles, not measured Archrebel results. The order above prevents a player from mistaking a change in scene complexity for an improvement caused by a particular slider.

| Symptom | Likely interpretation | First action |
|---|---|---|
| The image is consistently slow, especially while zoomed out or viewing many effects | The renderer may be doing more work than the GPU can sustain | Lower resolution from 1280×720 toward 640×360 |
| Movement is mostly smooth but pauses occur when many units act or environments break | The busy scene may be stressing simulation, effects or asset loading rather than resolution alone | Repeat the same scene test, close background programs and check whether another available quality option changes the pauses |
| Menus are smooth but one mission is uneven | The mission contains more units, particles or destructible elements than the menu | Use that mission as your benchmark; do not tune from the menu |
| Text and tiles are difficult to read after lowering resolution | The performance gain has exceeded the practical image-quality trade-off | Return to 1280×720 and test any intermediate value offered by the build |
| Performance changes after a game update | The game is still in development and its rendering workload can change | Recheck resolution and options after the update rather than assuming old settings remain optimal |
This table is a troubleshooting framework, not a claim that every slowdown has the same cause. A lower resolution cannot fix a CPU simulation stall, a background process, a driver problem or a storage-related pause.

Published minimum requirements
The current official Steam listing publishes separate Windows and Linux/SteamOS minimums. These describe whether a configuration is supported at a basic level; they do not promise a frame rate, a particular resolution or smooth performance in a large tactical scene.
| Platform | Published minimum |
|---|---|
| Windows | 64-bit processor and operating system; Windows 7 SP1 or later, 64-bit; x86/x64 CPU with SSE2; 3 GB RAM; graphics hardware capable of DirectX 11 or DirectX 12; approximately 1,300 MB storage |
| Linux/SteamOS | SteamOS 3; 3 GB RAM; OpenGL-capable graphics; approximately 1,300 MB storage |
An older indexed listing showed 2 GB of RAM and 1 GB of storage. Use the current main listing instead of those older figures. Requirements can change while the game is in development, and neither the current nor older minimum should be converted into a guaranteed FPS promise.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. If your PC is below the minimum
You can still try the demo or current build, but expectations should be limited. Start at 640×360 if 1280×720 is clearly unplayable, close unnecessary applications and test a representative mission. Missing a listed graphics API, operating-system architecture or CPU instruction requirement is more serious than simply having a slower GPU; a resolution change cannot supply unsupported platform features.
Recommended Free Tools
When the machine meets the listed requirements but remains slow, use 1280×720 as the first controlled test. When it does not meet them, treat any successful launch as incidental rather than evidence that the configuration is supported for future builds.

Windows and Linux considerations
Windows
The Windows listing requires a 64-bit operating system and DirectX 11- or DirectX 12-capable graphics. Confirm that the game is using the intended graphics adapter on systems with both integrated and discrete graphics. Close overlays, browsers and other GPU-heavy applications before comparing settings, because changing the game’s resolution while another process is consuming the adapter can produce a misleading result.
Linux and SteamOS
The published Linux/SteamOS target is SteamOS 3 with OpenGL-capable graphics. The available itch.io demo identifies Windows and Linux downloads, and the SteamDB record lists separate executables and depots. If a Linux build behaves differently from Windows, compare the same resolution and the same representative mission before drawing conclusions. A result from one build or compatibility layer should not be treated as a universal Linux benchmark.
Why a “simple” game can still be demanding
Archrebel Tactics combines several systems that can overlap during a single turn: a grid-based world, many units, destructible environments, particles and shader effects. Destruction can alter geometry or effects; a crowded battle can require more objects and state updates; and camera movement can expose a large portion of the map at once. Unity also introduces engine-level work that is not visible in a screenshot. These factors explain why pixel-art presentation does not guarantee low hardware usage.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesThe practical consequence is to tune for the busiest tactical moment you actually play. A setting that looks fine while inspecting an empty corner of a map may fail when several units act, terrain breaks and effects appear together.
A decision framework for common low-end setups
| Your situation | Recommended sequence | Trade-off |
|---|---|---|
| Meets the current minimum and feels mostly responsive | Keep 1280×720, then test other options one at a time only if needed | Preserves clearer text and tiles while avoiding unsupported assumptions about quality presets |
| Meets the minimum but stutters in busy encounters | Use 1280×720 for a baseline; move to 640×360 if the busy-scene test remains uneven | Lower clarity may be worthwhile for steadier interaction |
| Below the graphics or memory minimum | Try 640×360, close background software and test the demo or current build cautiously | There is no supported-performance guarantee |
| Performance varies dramatically between updates | Repeat the same test after each major build change and record the result | Takes a few minutes but prevents stale settings from being treated as permanent |
Common mistakes to avoid
- Starting with unverified slider advice: There is no complete, current Archrebel setting ranking for shadows, anti-aliasing, textures, effects or post-processing.
- Judging from the menu: Menus do not reproduce the unit count, destruction and effects that make a tactical scene demanding.
- Treating minimum requirements as a benchmark: The listed 3 GB RAM and graphics API requirements indicate a published floor, not a smooth-FPS promise.
- Changing several variables together: You will not know whether resolution, a quality option or a background process caused the result.
- Assuming pixel art means negligible workload: Effects, shaders, destructible environments and many units can still stress Unity and the hardware.
- Keeping old settings after an update: An in-development game can change defaults, rendering cost and available controls.
- Ignoring readability: A technically faster image is not a good setting if unit labels, tiles or interface text cannot be read.
Recommended starting profile
For a low-end Windows or Linux PC that can launch the current build, use 1280×720 with the game’s default options, then test a busy mission. If frame pacing is poor, switch to 640×360 and repeat the same test. If 640×360 is stable but too soft to play comfortably, return to 1280×720 and investigate only the additional controls exposed by your build, one at a time. Keep a note of the build number and your result so an update does not force you to rely on memory.
Archrebel Tactics is still in development and is not yet a full release with user reviews on the official Steam page. The downloadable demo is available for Windows and Linux, but performance in a demo build should not be treated as a permanent forecast for later versions.
