There is no publisher-verified universal best preset for Mass Effect Legendary Edition. The most reliable starting point is your display’s native resolution, a brightness calibration you can actually see comfortably, HDR only when your display and platform handle it well, and motion blur set by personal preference. Then adjust resolution and image options in small steps while checking whether your system remains smooth. Keep difficulty, subtitles, hints, controls and camera sensitivity separate from graphics: those settings change challenge, comfort and accessibility, not image quality.
The short answer: a practical baseline that works across PCs
Start in the game’s display and graphics options with the monitor or television’s native resolution and the window mode that fits how you play. Run the built-in brightness and high-definition resolution calibration rather than copying a value from another screen. If the display and platform support HDR, enable it, calibrate it and keep it only if highlights, shadows and skin tones look natural to you. Turn motion blur on if you prefer a softer, more cinematic camera during movement; turn it off if blur makes aiming or reading feel uncomfortable. These recommendations are a tuning method, not a benchmark-backed claim about a single fastest preset.
Electronic Arts says the collection was optimized for 4K Ultra HD and identifies HDR compatibility, but those statements describe capabilities rather than a guarantee that every computer, console or television should use 4K HDR. On PC, EA also lists native controller support, 21:9 display support and DirectX 11 compatibility. Your hardware, display and comfort should decide which of those features you use.

What the official settings information actually establishes
EA’s PC accessibility documentation identifies window mode, motion blur, brightness, high-definition resolution calibration, control customization and camera sensitivity. It also lists gameplay choices including difficulty, subtitles and hints. It does not publish a setting-by-setting performance ranking, a current frame-rate target for each preset or a universal brightness, HDR or motion-blur value.
The remaster’s visual goal was to improve the presentation without abandoning the trilogy’s identity. In EA’s words, “Our goal from the onset was to improve and enhance the visuals while staying true to the original aesthetics of the trilogy that have become so iconic and genre-defining over the past decade.” You can read the full explanation in EA’s Visual Improvements article. That intent is why an aggressive image-quality change is not automatically an improvement: a setting that looks sharper on one panel can look harsh or unlike the intended presentation on another.
Check your PC against the published requirements
Before tuning, compare your machine with the requirements on EA’s product page. They are minimum and recommended specifications, not measured frame-rate promises. The page was checked in 2026 for the 2021 release and lists 120 GB of storage for both tiers.

Best graphics settings, option by option
Resolution: use native first, then reduce deliberately
Native resolution normally gives the clearest text, interface and geometry because the game’s pixels map directly to the display. Select it first when your system can maintain the level of smoothness you expect. If movement is not smooth, lower resolution or another available image option one step at a time, play the same demanding area for a few minutes, and keep the first change that solves the problem without making the image unnecessarily soft.

A lower resolution is a legitimate choice on a high-resolution panel when your graphics hardware cannot sustain native output. It is not evidence that the game is defective, and it is not something EA quantifies with a universal performance gain. Because no official setting-by-setting benchmark is published, compare changes on your own system instead of relying on a claimed percentage.
Window mode: match the way you use the desktop
Choose the available window mode that best fits your workflow. Full-screen play can be preferable when the game is the only application you use; a windowed mode can make switching applications easier. EA documents window mode as a graphics choice but does not declare one mode universally faster or more stable. If a mode causes display switching problems, return to the previous mode before changing several other settings at once.
Brightness and high-definition calibration: trust the pattern, not a copied number
Use the in-game display calibration and adjust until its reference detail is visible without making black areas gray or bright areas glaring. The correct value depends on the room, panel, viewing angle and display presets, so a number copied from a different screen has no reliable meaning. Recheck calibration after changing the television’s picture mode, enabling HDR or moving from daytime to a dark room.
HDR: conditional, display-specific and worth checking carefully
EA identifies HDR compatibility for the collection, but compatibility is not a promise that HDR will look better on every setup. Enable HDR only when the display, operating system or console path and connection support it. Then run the game’s calibration and inspect dark corridors, bright effects and faces. Keep HDR when you can distinguish shadow detail and highlights without washed-out blacks or clipped bright areas; disable it when the result looks flatter or less accurate than standard dynamic range.
Do not treat HDR as a performance setting. It changes the display range and tone mapping, not the published hardware tier. If you change HDR, recalibrate brightness rather than carrying over the old value.

Motion blur: a comfort decision, not a proven speed switch
Motion blur is explicitly listed in EA’s PC accessibility information. Try one short combat sequence and one exploration sequence with it enabled, then repeat with it disabled. Keep the setting that lets you track the camera comfortably and read menus during movement. Some players prefer the cinematic softness; others find it obscures targets or causes eye strain. The available official material does not measure its performance cost, so do not expect a documented frame-rate gain from either choice.

Ultrawide and 21:9 displays
EA confirms 21:9 display support on PC in its Gameplay Calibrations article. Select the panel’s supported aspect ratio and check the HUD, subtitles and a few conversations before committing to a long session. The confirmation does not establish that every cinematic, menu or wider-than-21:9 ratio behaves identically, so inspect the scenes you care about rather than assuming all content fills the screen in the same way.
Controls and camera sensitivity
PC has native controller support, and EA describes configurable controls and camera sensitivity. EA’s feature summary calls out “Native controller and 21:9 display support on PC, with DirectX 11 compatibility.” Choose keyboard and mouse or a controller based on comfort and the type of aiming you prefer. Start camera sensitivity near its default, then make small changes until turning feels controllable without overshooting. There is no publisher-tested sensitivity value that is best for every mouse, pad or display.
A step-by-step setup procedure
- Confirm the platform and display. Note your monitor or television’s native resolution, refresh rate, aspect ratio and whether its HDR mode is genuine and supported through your connection.
- Check storage and hardware. Leave 120 GB available and compare your processor, 8 or 16 GB memory, and graphics card with EA’s minimum and recommended tiers.
- Open the game’s Options or Settings menu. Enter the display or graphics section and set the native resolution and a suitable window mode.
- Run brightness and high-definition resolution calibration. Adjust from the image shown on your own display; do not reuse a value from a different panel.
- Test HDR separately. Enable it only on a compatible path, calibrate again, and compare a dark scene and a bright-effects scene with HDR on and off.
- Choose motion blur by comfort. Test the same camera movement with the option enabled and disabled, changing no other setting during the comparison.
- Set input and camera behavior. Connect a controller if desired, confirm the game recognizes it, customize controls and make small camera-sensitivity adjustments.
- Play a repeatable test segment. Use a busy combat encounter or effects-heavy area, observe stutter or softness, and change one option at a time.
- Save the stable configuration. Once the image is clear and movement is comfortable, stop changing settings merely because another player uses different values.
How to improve performance without guessing
If native resolution is smooth
Keep native resolution. It preserves interface clarity and avoids unnecessary scaling. Experiment with motion blur only for comfort, and treat HDR as a display-quality choice. There is no reason to lower resolution when your system already delivers the experience you want.
If movement feels uneven or the game struggles
- Confirm that the game is using the intended display and resolution.
- Lower resolution one step and retest the same scene.
- If the result is still unsatisfactory, change the next available image-quality option in isolation and retest.
- Keep a simple note of each change so you can undo a setting that made text, faces or effects worse.
- Stop when the game is comfortable; do not chase an unverified universal frame-rate target.
This process deliberately avoids claiming that one named option is the largest performance cost, because EA’s published material does not quantify individual settings. It also avoids presenting the minimum or recommended specification as a measured frame-rate guarantee.

If the image looks soft after lowering resolution
Return to native resolution if performance allows. If it does not, use the highest lower resolution that remains comfortable and check whether the display is scaling the image cleanly. Re-run high-definition resolution calibration after changing resolution. A softer image is the expected trade-off for reducing the number of pixels your hardware must render.
If HDR looks gray, dim or over-bright
- Verify that HDR is enabled on the display and in the platform path, not only in the game.
- Run the game’s calibration again after changing the display picture mode.
- Compare the same dark and bright scenes with HDR disabled.
- Keep standard dynamic range when it looks more accurate on your particular display.
If motion makes you uncomfortable
Disable motion blur first and retest. If discomfort continues, reduce camera sensitivity in small increments and take breaks. These are comfort adjustments; they do not imply a measured performance improvement.
If an ultrawide layout looks wrong
Confirm that the display is running its supported 21:9 mode, then inspect the HUD, subtitles and a conversation scene. EA confirms 21:9 support on PC, but does not promise identical framing for every cinematic or aspect ratio. If a particular scene is distracting, a standard widescreen mode may be preferable for that session.

Difficulty
Select the difficulty that matches your preferred balance of story, combat pressure and experimentation. Lower difficulty can let you focus on dialogue and exploration; higher difficulty can make squad selection, powers and positioning more consequential. Difficulty changes challenge, not texture detail, resolution or HDR.
Subtitles
Enable subtitles when you want dialogue to remain readable in noisy environments, when accents or sound mixing make lines easy to miss, or when accessibility requires text. Disable them when you prefer an unobstructed cinematic presentation. This choice has no image-quality target.

Hints
Hints can provide additional guidance for players who want help finding objectives or understanding systems. Turn them down or off when you want to discover solutions independently. Like subtitles and difficulty, hints affect information and challenge rather than rendering performance.
Control layout and camera sensitivity
Customize controls around your preferred hand position and accessibility needs. A controller is optional on PC because native support is provided; keyboard and mouse remain valid choices. Adjust camera sensitivity in small steps, testing both exploration and combat so a setting that feels good while walking does not become difficult during aiming.
Recommended profiles by goal

Why there is no single “best” preset
The same setting can produce different results on a 4K television, a 1440p monitor, an HDR laptop panel or a 21:9 display. Graphics hardware also varies widely inside the requirement tiers. EA’s official pages describe supported features and hardware classes, but they do not provide a current, setting-by-setting benchmark or a frame-rate guarantee. A responsible recommendation therefore starts with the clearest mode your system can sustain and uses controlled, one-change-at-a-time testing for everything else.
