The best Gran Turismo 7 settings depend on whether you use a wireless controller or a wheel, your experience level, and how much assistance you want to keep. The official manual explains what each control changes but does not establish one universal numeric setup for every player, car, and device.
Use the relevant Beginner, Intermediate, or Expert preset as a starting point, then tune one control at a time. For a controller, adjust Controller Steering Sensitivity. For a wheel, tune Force Feedback Max. Torque and Force Feedback Sensitivity separately. Verify wheel compatibility, update firmware when required, and reduce vibration if the hardware becomes uncomfortable or excessively loud.
Quick recommendations by device and experience
| Player setup | Start here | What to adjust first | Why |
|---|---|---|---|
| Wireless controller, new to GT7 | Beginner assistance preset | Controller Steering Sensitivity in small steps | Lower sensitivity gives slower, smoother steering; higher sensitivity makes tire response faster and more sensitive. |
| Wireless controller, practiced | Intermediate preset | Steering sensitivity, then individual driving aids | You retain useful assistance while gaining more direct control. |
| Wireless controller, experienced | Expert preset | Steering sensitivity and only the aids you genuinely need | Expert removes more intervention, but it is not automatically faster for every car or driver. |
| Force-feedback wheel | Preset that matches your experience | Force Feedback Max. Torque, then Force Feedback Sensitivity | The two controls affect different parts of wheel feel and should not be changed as if they were the same setting. |
| Wheel with gear stick and clutch | Manual (MT) in Driving Options | Shifter, clutch, and pedal calibration | A gear stick and clutch require the correct transmission mode and compatible hardware. |
These are tuning directions, not official numeric presets. Change one variable, drive a familiar corner or short test race, and keep the setting only if it improves control, comfort, or consistency.
Where GT7 puts the relevant settings
Controller Settings in the pre-race Quick Menu
Before a race, open the pre-race Quick Menu and choose Settings → Controller Settings. This menu contains button assignment, Controller Steering Sensitivity, Force Feedback Max. Torque, and Force Feedback Sensitivity. The same menu is used even though the three controls are intended for different input hardware.
#1 Best Overall
- TRUEFORCE: Next-gen TRUEFORCE technology connects to game engines for high-definition feedback; experience the ultimate driving experience with processing at 4000 times per second
- Programmable dual clutch: Get off the starting line cleaner and faster; a programmable dual clutch simulates real race car launch assist right from the controller, when playing supported games
- Control your game: Fine-tune your speed with a built-in LED RPM indicator; integrated PlayStation 5, PS4, PC game controls, a 24-point selector and progressive brake spring keep steering under control
- Premium Racing Design: Refreshed Logitech G gear design includes premium materials like a hand-stitched black leather wheel cover and polished metal pedals; experience the pleasure of driving at home
- On-wheel game controls: Take charge of wheel sensitivity, force feedback levels and simulated steering; Logitech G Hub Gaming software enable button customisation right from the controller
Controller Steering Sensitivity concerns the speed and response of the front tires to wireless-controller input. The force-feedback controls shape the feel of a supported steering wheel. Changing controller sensitivity will not create wheel force feedback, and changing wheel torque will not alter how quickly a gamepad stick reaches full steering.
Assistance Settings in the pre-race Quick Menu
Choose Settings → Assistance Settings in the same Quick Menu. Transmission can be set to Automatic or Manual. The assistance presets are Beginner, Intermediate, and Expert. If you alter an individual aid, GT7 labels the resulting combination Custom.
Control-style choices under Options
For a wireless controller, open Options → Controllers to choose the steering method and pedal input method. GT7 documents left-stick steering, directional-button steering, and motion-sensor steering. Pedals can use R2/L2, face buttons, or the right stick. You can change these choices after the initial control-type screen; use the arrangement you can operate smoothly rather than assuming one is universally quickest.

What Controller Steering Sensitivity does
The manual describes a direct trade-off. Lower values slow the response and make steering smoother. Higher values make the front-tire response faster and more sensitive to stick, button, or motion input. This setting is therefore about how quickly GT7 interprets wireless-controller steering, not about the car’s steering ratio or the physical behavior of a real wheel.
A repeatable controller tuning process
- Open Settings → Controller Settings from the pre-race Quick Menu.
- Leave the default sensitivity in place for a baseline. Drive a car and track combination you know, using several medium-speed corners rather than judging the setting from one turn.
- If the car reacts too abruptly to small stick or motion movements, move sensitivity lower by a small increment and test again.
- If you consistently run out of steering input or cannot make a quick direction change without moving the control a long way, move sensitivity higher by a small increment.
- Repeat the same test after every change. Do not change sensitivity and multiple assists simultaneously, or you will not know which adjustment helped.
- Save the value that lets you place the car accurately while still making corrections without oscillating across the track.
The official material does not rank the left stick, directional buttons, and motion sensor as universally best. A stick may feel familiar, directional buttons may suit a player who prefers digital input, and motion steering may be comfortable for someone who can keep the controller level and make consistent movements. The useful criterion is repeatability over a full race.

Choosing a pedal method
GT7 supports R2/L2, face buttons, and the right stick for pedal input. Triggers or a stick can provide progressive control, while face buttons offer a simple on/off action. Select the method that lets you brake at the same point and apply throttle without accidental overlap. If you change pedal style, spend a few laps relearning braking points before judging steering sensitivity.
Best steering-wheel settings: separate torque from sensitivity
Force Feedback Max. Torque
Force Feedback Max. Torque sets the maximum torque the game requests from the wheel. The manual notes that higher values make tire response feel duller when cornering hard. In practical terms, use it to reach a strength level that gives clear information without forcing you to fight the wheel or causing clipping-like, indistinct heaviness in a long corner.
Force Feedback Sensitivity
Force Feedback Sensitivity controls resistance as a turn begins. Higher values make the wheel more responsive to changes; lower values make straight-line steering gentler. Because this is a turn-in and resistance response control, it is not a substitute for Max. Torque. A wheel can be strong but slow to react, or responsive but uncomfortably heavy, depending on the two values.
Wheel-tuning procedure
- Confirm that the wheel model is supported and connected before launching a test session.
- Open Settings → Controller Settings in the pre-race Quick Menu.
- Set a comfortable baseline for Force Feedback Max. Torque and drive several corners at normal race speed.
- Adjust Max. Torque alone. If the wheel is painful, vibrates excessively, or masks fine detail under heavy cornering, reduce it. If feedback is too weak to identify load changes, raise it cautiously.
- Return the torque control to the chosen value, then adjust Force Feedback Sensitivity alone. Raise it if initial turn-in feels unresponsive; lower it if straight-line steering becomes nervous or overly resistant.
- Check the same settings in a high-downforce and a low-grip car. A setting that feels calm in one may feel busy in another.
- Stop when you can steer accurately for a complete session without fatigue. Comfort is part of a usable setup, not a concession that makes the setting inferior.
There is no official numeric wheel preset that covers every wheel motor, rim, car, and player. Treat numbers shared by individual drivers as personal starting points, not as GT7 recommendations.
Choosing Beginner, Intermediate, Expert, or Custom assists
Beginner
The manual frames Beginner for people new to driving games. It keeps more intervention available while you learn braking, throttle control, racing lines, and recovery from a slide. Start here if you are still concentrating on basic car control or frequently lose the car before you can identify why.

Intermediate
Intermediate is intended for a practiced player who wants more direct control but still values selected aids. It is a starting preset, not a promise of a particular lap time. You can reduce or increase individual assistance after learning which behavior is causing a mistake.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesExpert
Expert is aimed at experienced players comfortable managing braking, throttle, and oversteer themselves. Fewer interventions can reveal more of the car’s behavior, but turning aids off is not automatically faster. A controllable car and consistent laps matter more than a preset label.
Custom
Any individual change to a preset creates a Custom configuration. Record the changes you make so you can reproduce a comfortable setup after an update, a console change, or a new controller.
Transmission and clutch choice
Driving Options offers Automatic and Manual (MT). Manual is required for the gear-stick and clutch operation described in the manual. A gear stick by itself uses auto-clutch mode. Pressing a connected clutch pedal activates full manual mode. The gear stick must be installed to use the clutch pedal, and some drivetrain types cannot use the clutch even when manual transmission is available. The manual names the TH8 RS as an example of a compatible gear stick; verify the hardware and drivetrain before troubleshooting a clutch that appears inactive.
GT7 wheel compatibility and console restrictions
Check the current online manual’s compatibility list before buying or configuring a wheel. It lists these steering controllers:
Rank #4
- Immersive Gaming Experience: Perfect for Xbox and PC gaming titles, the Driving Force simulates the feeling of driving a real car with precision steering and pressure-sensitive pedals
- Premium Control: The Driving Force feedback racing wheel provides a detailed simulation of driving a real car, with helical gearing delivering smooth, quiet steering and a hand-stitched leather cover

| Manufacturer | Models listed by the manual | Important qualification |
|---|---|---|
| Thrustmaster | T-GT, T-GT II, T248, T300RS, T500RS, T150 Force Feedback, T80 Racing Wheel, T598 | The T248 operates as T-GT-compatible. The T500RS listing is PS4 only. |
| Logitech | G PRO Racing Wheel, G29 Driving Force, G923 Racing Wheel | Use the model-specific compatibility and firmware information for your console. |
| Fanatec | CSL Elite Racing Wheel, GT DD Pro / Extreme, Podium | Confirm the exact base, rim, and console mode before assuming every accessory is supported. |
Compatibility is not just a brand question. Console generation, operating mode, firmware, pedals, shifter, and the particular GT7-supported model all matter. A wheel that powers on may still lack expected force feedback or clutch behavior if it is in the wrong mode or has outdated firmware.
Firmware, vibration, and the G923
Excessive or loud G923 vibration
GT7’s G923 compatibility notice says the game uses the wheel’s TRUEFORCE function to reproduce engine and wheel-slip vibrations. If the vibration is excessive or loud, open Options → Controllers → Vibration Function and lower Vibration Strength. The notice lists 100 as the default value; that is a setting value, not a recommended target for every player.
Pedal and input checks
The same notice describes checking connected steering-controller inputs and calibrating pedal sensitivity under Options → Controllers → Steering Controller Settings. Use those screens when a pedal reaches full input too early, fails to return to zero, or appears disconnected. Correct calibration before changing force-feedback values, because a hardware-input problem can feel like a driving-setting problem.
Update 1.65 simulated friction
The official Update 1.65 notice says: “We’ve added simulated friction to select force-feedback steering wheel controllers to bring the steering feel closer to that of a real car.” It also advises updating steering-controller firmware. The available notice does not identify every affected wheel model, so update firmware when the manufacturer provides a current release but do not assume a particular model receives this behavior unless GT7 or the manufacturer explicitly confirms it.

Update 1.31 can change what a preset appears to do
Update 1.31 changed controller-steering and force-feedback algorithms and revised assistance defaults. The notice reports these changes:
Best Value
- Works with G29 and G920 Driving Force Racing Wheels Driving Force shifter is designed for both G29 and G920 Driving Force racing wheels, to enhance the latest PC and console racing titles. Add Driving Force shifter to your racing wheel setup to complete your racing rig for a more realistic experience.
- Quality Construction With a solid steel gear shaft, Driving Force shifter is built for precision racing and long-lasting reliability. The knob and boot are covered in high-quality, hand-stitched leather, giving it a look and feel similar to a high-performance race shifter and giving you a more comfortable, durable experience.
- Six-Speed Shifter with Push-Down Reverse The six-speed “H” shifter moves fluidly and solidly clicks into each gear, helping you execute smooth, accurate gear transitions on hairpin turns and straightaways.
- Secure Mounting Durable built-in clamps and bolt points allow Driving Force shifter to be mounted securely to a table or racing rig, to minimize shifting or wobbling during aggressive race maneuvers.
- Compatible with Windows 11/10/8.1/7, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4 consoles, and games that support Logitech force feedback racing wheel
- Intermediate Countersteering Assistance changed from Strong to Weak.
- Intermediate Traction Control changed from 5 to 3.
- Expert Countersteering Assistance changed from Strong to Off.
Previously selected Intermediate or Expert settings were not overwritten. Instead, a player who had already customized those values could see the configuration labeled Custom. This explains why a saved setup may not match a newly selected preset after the update. If behavior changes unexpectedly, inspect every individual assistance option rather than assuming GT7 reset your controls.
Troubleshooting by symptom
The controller feels twitchy
- Lower Controller Steering Sensitivity slightly.
- Test the same car and corner after each change.
- Check that motion steering is not enabled accidentally if you intended to use the stick.
- Do not simultaneously raise an assistance setting and sensitivity; isolate the cause.
The controller feels too slow in direction changes
- Raise sensitivity in small steps.
- Verify that the control method and pedal method match your intended layout.
- Practice the same corner before deciding that a larger change is necessary.
The wheel is too heavy in long corners
- Reduce Force Feedback Max. Torque.
- Check whether the wheel’s own driver or firmware has a separate strength limit.
- Lower Vibration Strength for a G923 if the problem is buzzing or rattling rather than sustained steering load.
The wheel turns in slowly but is not especially strong
- Increase Force Feedback Sensitivity cautiously, because the manual associates higher values with more responsive changes at turn-in.
- Leave Max. Torque unchanged while testing so you can distinguish response from strength.
- If straight-line steering becomes nervous, back the sensitivity down.
A clutch pedal does nothing
- Select Manual (MT) in Driving Options.
- Confirm that the gear stick is installed; the manual requires it for clutch-pedal use.
- Check pedal detection and calibration in Options → Controllers → Steering Controller Settings.
- Test another drivetrain, because some drivetrain types cannot use the clutch even when manual transmission is available.
The preset changed to Custom
Review your individual aids and the Update 1.31 changes. GT7 can preserve previously selected Intermediate or Expert values while labeling the combination Custom; that label does not by itself indicate a fault.
A practical test routine for any setup
- Choose one familiar track section with a braking zone, a medium-speed corner, and a direction change.
- Warm up with the default or selected skill-level preset and note the specific problem: delayed turn-in, excessive corrections, wheel fatigue, lockups, or loss of traction.
- Change only the control that addresses that symptom: controller sensitivity, Max. Torque, Force Feedback Sensitivity, or one assistance option.
- Drive several laps without changing anything else.
- Repeat in a second car with different grip or downforce. Keep the change only if it remains useful without creating a new problem.
- Write down the final Custom assistance choices and wheel or controller values.
This method produces a personal setup grounded in the documented effects of each setting while avoiding the false precision of a universal number.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →What “best” means in GT7
For a controller, “best” means a response speed you can modulate accurately with your chosen steering and pedal method. For a wheel, it means enough torque and turn-in detail to read the car without discomfort, clipping-like heaviness, or distracting vibration. For assists, it means the lowest level of intervention that still lets you complete consistent laps and learn from mistakes.
GT7’s official documentation supports that device-specific approach. It defines the controls, lists supported hardware, and records how updates changed defaults; it does not publish a single numeric combination that is fastest for every player. Start with the matching preset, make isolated adjustments, and keep the configuration that improves repeatable control.
