The best desktop speakers for a gaming PC depend on your desk, bass expectations, available ports and the features you will actually use. A compact 2.0 pair keeps a small workstation clear; a 2.1 system adds a subwoofer for deeper low frequencies but needs floor or desk space and compatible connections. There is no evidence-based universal winner, so match the speaker design to your room and source devices first.

Use the comparison below as a shortlist, then verify the exact inputs on your computer, console or monitor. Specifications such as wattage and frequency range describe a product; they do not, by themselves, rank sound quality. Listening preference and room placement still decide whether a set sounds right to you.

Choose 2.0, 2.1 or multichannel before choosing a brand

2.0: the easiest fit for a crowded desk

A 2.0 system has two full-range speaker cabinets and no separate subwoofer. It is usually the practical choice when your monitor stand, keyboard, microphone and controller already consume the desktop. Both the G1500 and A2+ are compact 2.0 candidates, while the Pebble Pro is explicitly described as compact by PC Gamer.

  • More Than Fancy - Minimalism modern urban design with brushed material style, the seamless blend of dynamic stylish and upscale textural feel.
  • Easy-access Volume Control - Individual volume up and volume down buttons make adjusting the volume easy and accurate.
  • Plug & Play for Broad Compatibility - USB powered with 3.5mm audio and mic cables allows this rockstar to party on wide types of stages for PC, TV, and Laptop. Up to 31 in (80 cm) cable length between two speakers.

Because there is no subwoofer to place, cable routing is simpler and you can keep both speakers near the monitor. The trade-off is limited very-low-frequency output compared with a well-integrated 2.1 system. That does not make every 2.0 pair thin-sounding; it means you should set expectations about rumble in explosions and music.

2.1: deeper bass with a space and setup cost

A 2.1 system combines left and right speakers with a separate subwoofer. The sub can deliver more low-end energy, but it needs a stable location, a nearby power outlet and enough clearance that walls or furniture do not make the bass boomy. The Mackie CR3.5BT plus CR8SBT combination is the 2.1-style option identified by PC Gamer’s August 21, 2026 guide. The A2+ takes a different route: it is a compact pair with a subwoofer output, so you can add bass later if the selected subwoofer and budget are compatible.

Do not buy a subwoofer first and assume every speaker can drive it. Look for a dedicated subwoofer output or a system designed to include one. If the output, plug type or crossover arrangement is not documented for your speaker, ask the manufacturer before purchasing an additional unit.

Multichannel: only when you can place every channel

Multichannel speakers can put separate channels around the listener, but they require room behind or beside the chair and more cables. A two-speaker desktop set cannot provide the same physical channel layout. For most PC desks, a carefully placed 2.0 or 2.1 system is easier to set up and keep aimed at the listening position.

Match the speaker inputs to your PC, console and monitor

Write down the outputs on every source you plan to use before ordering. A desktop PC may offer USB, a 3.5 mm headphone/line output and Bluetooth; a console or monitor may expose only one of those. The speaker must accept a connection your source can provide, or you need an adapter that changes the connection without adding a new compatibility problem.

USB audio

USB can carry digital audio directly to a speaker’s built-in sound hardware. The G1500 lists a USB sound-card input, the A2+ lists USB input, and the QS30 lists USB-A. USB is also the required path for full LIGHTSYNC access on the G560 when used with Logitech Game Software. Use a direct motherboard or laptop port when possible, then select the speaker as the operating system’s output device.

3.5 mm analog

A 3.5 mm auxiliary connection works with a computer’s line/headphone output and many monitors and handheld devices. It is simple and widely compatible, but it carries analog audio from the source. On the G560, 3.5 mm works for sound while LIGHTSYNC functionality is limited compared with USB.

  • Type C Adapter Included & Compatibility - USB speakers match computers, desktops, PCs, laptops. Suitable for windows(Vista/7/8/10), Mac OS, Chrome OS, etc.

Bluetooth

Bluetooth is useful for a phone, tablet or a PC that lacks a convenient cable. The G1500 and G560 support Bluetooth; the QS30 lists Bluetooth 5.4, and the Pebble Pro is described by PC Gamer as using Bluetooth 5.3. Wireless audio can introduce latency or operating-system profile changes, so use USB or 3.5 mm when a game’s timing and microphone behavior matter most.

What to do when there is no optical output

Optical is not required unless both your source and chosen speaker depend on it. If your computer has a 3.5 mm jack and the speaker has AUX, connect those directly. If the speaker accepts USB and your computer has USB, use that instead. A USB DAC adapter is useful only when the computer’s analog output is noisy, unavailable or incompatible with the speaker’s required input; it is not an automatic upgrade. An anecdotal r/buildapc question illustrates this exact 2.1/no-optical decision, but it is not representative survey data.

How the leading candidates differ

Edifier G1500: compact gaming controls and RGB

The G1500 is officially positioned as a desktop gaming speaker. Its two 2.5-inch full-range drivers, USB sound-card, AUX and Bluetooth inputs make it flexible for a small PC setup. Edifier lists game, music and movie modes and RGB effects, so you can switch processing or lighting to suit the activity. The published output is 2.5W + 2.5W RMS and the frequency response is 93Hz–20kHz.

Those numbers explain the intended compact format, not a sound-quality ranking. Choose the G1500 when the modes, RGB and three input methods solve a real desk problem. If you never use lighting or mode switching, a simpler pair may give you the same practical result with fewer controls to manage.

Audioengine A2+: a small pair with an upgrade path

Audioengine describes the A2+ as a compact desktop pair with USB input and a subwoofer output. That combination suits a listener who wants minimal desk footprint now but may want more bass later. Keep the future subwoofer in your total budget, and confirm that its input and level controls are compatible with the A2+ output before buying.

The A2+ is a useful example of why configuration matters more than a headline wattage figure: the option to add a subwoofer can be more valuable than choosing a larger 2.0 cabinet that leaves no clear upgrade path. The cited product material does not establish a universal sound-quality advantage, so auditioning or checking a return policy remains sensible.

Logitech G560: choose USB if LIGHTSYNC is the reason you want it

Logitech’s support instructions list USB, Bluetooth and 3.5 mm auxiliary connections for the G560. The key distinction is software and lighting control: full LIGHTSYNC access requires USB and Logitech Game Software, while lighting features are limited when the system receives audio over Bluetooth or 3.5 mm.

Plan the G560 around the source you will use most. Connect USB to the gaming PC if synchronized lighting and software controls matter. Reserve Bluetooth or AUX for a secondary device when you accept the reduced lighting feature set. This avoids the common disappointment of buying a lighting-focused system and then connecting it through the one input that limits those features.

Follow the exact connection guidance in Logitech’s G560 support article.

Edifier QS30: straightforward compact USB or Bluetooth audio

The QS30 is described on Edifier’s US page as a compact PC speaker. It lists USB-A and Bluetooth inputs, Bluetooth 5.4, and gaming, movie and music sound modes. Edifier specifies 2.5W + 2.5W RMS and a 90Hz–18kHz frequency response.

The modes are feature choices, not proof that the QS30 sounds better than a competing model.

Mackie CR3.5BT plus CR8SBT: an editorial pick for a larger, bass-capable setup

PC Gamer’s guide, updated August 21, 2026, names the Mackie CR3.5BT plus CR8SBT combination its overall pick. The pairing is relevant when you are prepared to allocate space for a subwoofer and want a more substantial desktop system than a compact 2.0 pair. Because that statement is an editorial evaluation from PC Gamer rather than testing conducted for this article, use it as a starting point, then verify current specifications, connections and regional pricing.

Measure the area beside or beneath the desk before choosing this route. A subwoofer that blocks a footrest, sits against a resonant wall or leaves no outlet access can make the theoretically better configuration less usable day to day.

Creative Pebble Pro: budget compactness, with a known low-end trade-off

PC Gamer describes the Pebble Pro as a compact budget choice with 3.5 mm, USB-C and Bluetooth 5.3 connectivity. That combination covers a desktop, laptop and mobile device without requiring a separate adapter in many setups. The same guide notes weaker low-end output, so select it for footprint and input flexibility rather than bass-heavy game sound.

As with every model here, the PC Gamer label is an attributed guide recommendation, not a claim that every listener will prefer its tonal balance.

Placement is part of the speaker choice

Tom’s Guide recommends considering speaker size, listening environment, desktop placement and nearby boundaries when choosing computer speakers. Apply that advice before you compare specifications: two speakers with similar published figures can sound different when one is jammed against a wall and the other has clear space around it.

Set up the left and right speakers

  1. Place the pair on the same surface as the monitor, with the tweeter or main driver aimed toward your seated head position.
  2. Keep the left and right distances from your chair as similar as the desk allows; avoid putting one speaker inside a shelf and the other in open air.
  3. Leave clearance from the rear and side boundaries recommended by the manufacturer. If the desk is shallow, move the speakers slightly forward rather than pushing them hard against the wall.
  4. Use stable stands, isolation pads or the supplied feet if vibrations travel through the desktop into your microphone or monitor.

Place a subwoofer without creating one-note bass

  1. Start on the floor or a solid lower shelf where the driver and port are unobstructed.
  2. Keep it away from a corner at first; corners can increase bass and make certain notes dominate.
  3. Play familiar game, music and speech material, then move the sub in small increments until bass is present without masking dialogue or effects.
  4. Secure the cable and leave the power switch accessible so you can troubleshoot without moving the entire desk.

These steps are practical placement guidance, not a promise of a particular frequency response in your room. Your walls, furniture and listening distance determine the final result.

Use specifications without mistaking them for sound-quality scores

Wattage

Manufacturer RMS figures indicate an electrical output rating under the maker’s stated conditions. The G1500 and QS30 each list 2.5W + 2.5W RMS. That shared number does not prove that they sound identical, nor does a higher number automatically mean cleaner or more enjoyable audio. Room size, listening distance, distortion behavior and tuning also matter.

  • USB-Powered from USB port of PC or Laptop
  • In-line volume control for easy access
  • Blue LED lights; metal finish and scratch-free padded base
  • Bottom radiator for “springy” bass sound

Frequency response

Edifier lists 93Hz–20kHz for the G1500 and 90Hz–18kHz for the QS30. A response range is a specification with measurement tolerances and conditions that are not fully represented by two endpoints. It should not be used as a direct ranking of bass quality, treble smoothness or gaming immersion.

Modes and RGB

Game, movie and music modes alter a product’s processing or voicing; RGB changes appearance. They can be useful if you want quick presets or coordinated lighting, but they are product features, not independent evidence that one speaker reproduces sound more accurately than another.

Budget for the complete setup, not only the speaker box

Your real cost can include a subwoofer, a USB DAC, a longer cable, a stand or isolation pads, and a power strip. A compact 2.0 pair may be the least expensive way to get working audio, while a 2.1 system can require both the subwoofer and the space to place it. The QS30’s $79.99 US display price on October 13, 2026 is the only dated price in the cited material; do not assume that price applies in another country or remains current.

  • Small desk, no bass upgrade planned: compare the G1500, QS30 and Pebble Pro by the ports you need and the controls you will use.
  • Small desk, bass later: the A2+’s subwoofer output gives you an upgrade path, subject to compatible equipment and budget.
  • Lighting and PC integration: the G560 makes sense only if USB and its software-controlled LIGHTSYNC features fit your primary setup.
  • Dedicated 2.1 space: evaluate the Mackie pairing or another complete system after measuring the subwoofer location and checking every input.

A setup checklist before you order

  1. Measure the desk: record usable width, depth, shelf height and the space available for a subwoofer.
  2. List every source: gaming PC, console, monitor, phone and work laptop, including the ports each one actually exposes.
  3. Choose the configuration: 2.0 for simplicity and footprint, 2.1 for a separate bass module, or multichannel only if you can place its channels properly.
  4. Match the primary connection: use USB when you need digital audio or G560 LIGHTSYNC, AUX when a 3.5 mm cable is the simplest match, and Bluetooth for convenient secondary devices.
  5. Check expansion: if you may add a subwoofer, confirm a documented subwoofer output before purchasing.
  6. Verify regional details: check current price, stock, warranty, included cables and return terms on the manufacturer or retailer listing.
  7. Plan placement: reserve power outlets, keep cables away from chair wheels and leave access to controls.
  8. Test at normal volume: listen from your usual chair with game dialogue, music and effects; do not judge only from a specification table.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need a USB DAC if my computer has a 3.5 mm jack?

No. Use the 3.5 mm connection when it matches the speaker’s AUX input and the output is clean. Add a USB DAC only when the computer lacks a suitable analog output, produces audible noise or cannot connect to the speaker’s required input.

Can Bluetooth replace USB for gaming speakers?

It can provide convenient audio when the computer supports it, but USB or 3.5 mm is the safer primary connection when you want the lowest practical latency or software features such as full LIGHTSYNC control.

Is a higher RMS wattage automatically better?

No. RMS is a specification, not a complete sound-quality score. Tuning, distortion, room placement and listening distance affect what you hear.

How much desk space should I reserve for a 2.1 system?

Measure room for both satellite speakers and the separate subwoofer, plus a power outlet and cable route. If the sub blocks your feet or sits tightly in a resonant corner, a compact 2.0 pair may be the more usable choice.
