Start with Deus Ex (2000) if what you miss is Bloodlines’ first-person role-playing, stealth, exploration, and problem-solving freedom. Choose Prey (2017) for a denser modern immersive sim with powers and multiple solutions. If the setting matters more than the exact design, play Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2. Vampire: The Masquerade – Swansong is the better choice for dialogue, investigation, and World of Darkness politics, while Vampyr focuses on vampire identity, morality, and feeding.
No single game reproduces every part of Bloodlines. The best follow-up depends on whether you want an immersive sim, branching role-play, gothic atmosphere, or another licensed vampire story.
Why Bloodlines is difficult to replace
Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines is not simply a vampire action game. Steam’s official listing describes it as a traditional role-playing game blended with first-person action combat, while its tags point to vampires, supernatural horror, atmosphere, story, stealth, and immersive-sim design. That combination creates a specific expectation: you build a character, move through spaces from a first-person perspective, feed on people, use supernatural powers, and decide how to approach encounters rather than following one prescribed solution.

Feeding is not just a resource action, and the setting is not merely decorative. The strongest alternatives therefore need to be judged on several separate axes:

- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
- Systemic freedom: whether stealth, exploration, abilities, and player choices change how encounters can be solved.
- Role-playing and dialogue: whether conversations, investigations, and decisions shape the experience.
- Vampire or World of Darkness identity: whether you are inhabiting a vampire world rather than only playing a supernatural character.
- Gothic or noir atmosphere: whether the mood carries the same urban unease and personal stakes.
- Current access: whether the game is available on modern PC or console hardware and whether its edition needs special technical attention.
The ranking below treats those qualities separately instead of claiming that a science-fiction immersive sim is automatically a better vampire game, or that every World of Darkness title plays like Bloodlines.
Quick guide: which game should you choose?
| Game | Best match for | What carries over from Bloodlines | What changes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Deus Ex (2000) | First-person role-playing and flexible problem solving | Skills, stealth, exploration, player choice, systemic encounters | Science-fiction setting instead of vampire noir |
| Prey (2017) | A modern immersive-sim structure | Dense spaces, powers, stealth, exploration, multiple solutions | Horror and science fiction replace urban gothic and vampire politics |
| Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 | World of Darkness continuity and a first-person vampire RPG | Vampire identity, modern city setting, supernatural role-playing | New production and design; it is not a restoration of Troika’s game |
| Vampire: The Masquerade – Swansong | Dialogue-heavy lore, investigation, and political decisions | World of Darkness setting, vampire perspectives, narrative choices | Less emphasis on first-person combat and immersive-sim traversal |
| Vampyr | Vampire identity, feeding, morality, and investigation | Personal consequences of living as a vampire | Broader action-RPG structure rather than Bloodlines’ systemic sandbox |
| Vampire: The Masquerade – Redemption | An older, lore-oriented World of Darkness experience | Licensed vampire setting and role-playing premise | Earlier, more linear action-RPG design |
1. Deus Ex (2000): the closest systems match
Why it belongs at the top
Choose Deus Ex when your favorite part of Bloodlines was deciding how to enter a situation, which abilities to rely on, and whether to talk, sneak, explore, or fight. Its science-fiction setting is completely different, but its structural resemblance is the strongest in this list. Skills, stealth, exploration, and player choice shape encounters instead of making the player follow a single route.
This is the recommendation for the reader who searches for “an immersive sim with better role-playing.” The important similarity is not vampires; it is the sense that a location can be approached as a problem with several valid answers. You can carry that mindset from Bloodlines without expecting the same clans, feeding rules, or gothic atmosphere.
What will feel different
Deus Ex trades urban vampire noir for science fiction. Its fiction, tone, and character fantasy are therefore not interchangeable with Bloodlines. If your attachment is primarily to the World of Darkness, you may find the setting gap more noticeable than the mechanical similarities. Treat it as a design successor rather than a narrative continuation.
Pick it if…
- You remember improvising around encounters more than any individual combat system.
- You want an older game whose identity is built around player-directed solutions.
- You can accept science fiction in place of supernatural horror and vampire politics.
2. Prey (2017): the strongest modern immersive-sim successor
Why it fits
Prey is the strongest choice if you want the immersive-sim side of Bloodlines in a more modern production. Its appeal is built around dense environments, powers, stealth, and multiple solutions. That combination makes exploration itself part of the role-playing: you are not merely moving between story scenes, but looking at spaces for opportunities and deciding which abilities or approaches fit your character.
For a player asking for “games like Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines” because of its first-person freedom, Prey is a more direct recommendation than another linear vampire adventure. It preserves the feeling that powers and environment knowledge can change the answer to a problem.

What it does not provide
Prey is horror and science fiction, not urban gothic vampire fiction. It does not continue the World of Darkness or offer the same social role-playing premise. Its match is mechanical and atmospheric in a broad sense, not thematic. Go in expecting a systems successor, not a substitute for vampire lore.
Pick it if…
- You want stealth, powers, exploration, and several ways to resolve situations.
- You prefer a newer presentation and a tightly designed immersive-sim environment.
- You are willing to exchange vampire society for science-fiction horror.
3. Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2: the closest setting continuation
What carries over
Bloodlines 2 is the obvious choice when the phrase “another vampire RPG with choices” means another modern World of Darkness game. Paradox describes the protagonist, Phyre, as an elder vampire who awakens in Seattle. The launch material places that awakening in 2024 and identifies Phyre as also being known as the Nomad. That premise gives you the setting continuity that Deus Ex and Prey cannot provide.
It is also presented as a first-person vampire role-playing game, making it the closest option here in basic viewpoint and fantasy. The appeal is not only playing a supernatural character; it is returning to a contemporary city shaped by World of Darkness lore.
Modern availability
Paradox confirms releases for PC, Xbox Series X|S, and PlayStation 5. The launch announcement also lists Steam, GOG, and the Epic Games Store for PC distribution. Check the edition and storefront available in your region before buying, because platform listings and editions can change over time.
Set expectations correctly
Bloodlines 2 is a new production, not a restoration of Troika’s exact design. The shared license and first-person vampire premise do not guarantee the same writing, pacing, systems, or quest structure. Choose it for continuity of setting and character fantasy, then judge it on its own design rather than expecting every quirk of the original to return.

- World of Darkness lore matters more to you than having the closest immersive-sim mechanics.

4. Vampire: The Masquerade – Swansong: dialogue and politics first
Why it suits a different kind of Bloodlines fan
Swansong is the recommendation for readers who remember conversations, investigation, and political tension more vividly than combat. GOG’s vampire catalogue lists it among the World of Darkness titles, so it preserves the licensed setting that many players want after finishing Bloodlines. Its strongest appeal is narrative role-playing: examining situations, making decisions, and engaging with vampire society.

- Sleek 7-in-1 USB-C Hub: Features an HDMI port, two USB-A 3.0 ports, and a USB-C data port, each providing 5Gbps transfer speeds. It also includes a USB-C PD input port for charging up to 100W and dual SD and TF card slots, all in a compact design.
- Flawless 4K@60Hz Video with HDMI: Delivers exceptional clarity and smoothness with its 4K@60Hz HDMI port, making it ideal for high-definition presentations and entertainment. (Note: Only the HDMI port supports video projection; the USB-C port is for data transfer only.)
- Double Up on Efficiency: The two USB-A 3.0 ports and a USB-C port support a fast 5Gbps data rate, significantly boosting your transfer speeds and improving productivity.
- Fast and Reliable 85W Charging: Offers high-capacity, speedy charging for laptops up to 85W, so you spend less time tethered to an outlet and more time being productive.
- What You Get: Anker USB-C Hub (7-in-1), welcome guide, 18-month warranty, and our friendly customer service.
This is a better answer than Prey if your search is really for a dialogue-heavy World of Darkness game. It also avoids pretending that every sequel must be a first-person action RPG. Different priorities produce different recommendations.
What to expect instead of immersive-sim traversal
Swansong puts dialogue, investigation, and narrative decisions ahead of first-person combat or systemic traversal. If you need the freedom to enter an area through stealth, powers, or environmental experimentation, it is not the closest match. Its value is in role-playing through information and decisions rather than through a combat sandbox.
Availability caveat
Current platforms and editions should be verified on the retailer or storefront you intend to use. The available catalogue information establishes the title’s place in the vampire and World of Darkness lineup, but not one universal platform list for every region.
Pick it if…
- You want vampire politics, investigation, and consequential conversations.
- You value lore and narrative decisions more than first-person combat.
- You want a World of Darkness game but do not require Bloodlines’ traversal model.
5. Vampyr: vampire identity and moral pressure
The central attraction
Vampyr is useful when the part of Bloodlines you want to preserve is the pressure of living as a vampire. Its identity is built around feeding, morality, and investigation, giving your supernatural abilities a human and ethical context. That makes it a natural answer to “what should I play after Bloodlines?” when the desired feature is not exact mechanics but the tension between power and consequence.
GOG’s vampire catalogue lists Vampyr as a vampire game, but the catalogue placement should not be mistaken for a claim that it duplicates Bloodlines. It is a broader action-RPG, so its structure differs from the original’s immersive-sim approach.
Where the match ends
Choose Vampyr for inhabiting a vampire and weighing what feeding means, not for the same first-person sandbox. Its action-RPG structure makes it a thematic recommendation. Players who care most about stealth routes, open-ended environmental problem solving, or highly reactive dialogue should start with Deus Ex, Prey, or Swansong instead.

- Please Note: To reach 10Gbps speed, keep the cable under 3.3 ft. For USB A Male to USB C adapters, try flipping the USB C connector. USB C Male to USB A adapters support bidirectional 10Gbps transfer within 3.3 ft
Pick it if…
- You want feeding and morality to sit at the center of the experience.
- You enjoy investigation wrapped in a vampire action-RPG.
- You prefer a thematic successor even when the underlying structure changes.
6. Vampire: The Masquerade – Redemption: an older World of Darkness option
Why it remains relevant
Redemption is the historical choice for readers who want more licensed World of Darkness material. GOG’s catalogue lists it alongside other vampire games, making it a useful way to explore an earlier interpretation of the setting and its role-playing premise.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?

Its importance is primarily contextual and lore-oriented. It belongs to an earlier generation of action RPGs and presents a more linear structure. That distinction matters because a player arriving directly from Bloodlines may otherwise assume that the shared license also means shared camera perspective, quest design, or freedom of approach.
How to approach it
Think of Redemption as a historical companion rather than a mechanical sequel. It can show how the licensed vampire setting was handled before Bloodlines, but it should not be your first pick if your priority is a modern immersive sim.
Pick it if…
- You are interested in older World of Darkness role-playing games.
- You value setting history more than contemporary presentation.
- You are comfortable with a more linear action-RPG structure.
Choose by the part of Bloodlines you miss
If you miss flexible problem solving
Begin with Deus Ex, then try Prey. The former is the closer structural match for skills, stealth, exploration, and choice; the latter offers the stronger modern immersive-sim presentation with powers and dense environments.
If you miss being a vampire
Start with Bloodlines 2 for a modern first-person World of Darkness experience. Choose Vampyr instead if feeding, morality, and investigation are more important to you than returning to the same licensed universe.

If you miss dialogue and lore

Best Value
- 5-in-1 Connectivity: Equipped with a 4K HDMI port, a 5 Gbps USB-C data port, two 5 Gbps USB-A ports, and a USB C 100W PD-IN port. Note: The USB C 100W PD-IN port supports only charging and does not support data transfer devices such as headphones or speakers.
- Powerful Pass-Through Charging: Supports up to 85W pass-through charging so you can power up your laptop while you use the hub. Note: Pass-through charging requires a charger (not included). Note: To achieve full power for iPad, we recommend using a 45W wall charger.
- Transfer Files in Seconds: Move files to and from your laptop at speeds of up to 5 Gbps via the USB-C and USB-A data ports. Note: The USB C 5Gbps Data port does not support video output.
- HD Display: Connect to the HDMI port to stream or mirror content to an external monitor in resolutions of up to 4K@30Hz. Note: The USB-C ports do not support video output.
- What You Get: Anker 332 USB-C Hub (5-in-1), welcome guide, our worry-free 18-month warranty, and friendly customer service.
If you want to explore the license’s history
Play Redemption with deliberately modest expectations about structure and presentation. Its value is as an older, more linear World of Darkness action RPG.
A practical play order for returning fans
- Play Deus Ex first if you want the closest overall answer to the original’s systems and player-directed encounters.
- Follow with Prey when you want those ideas expressed through a newer immersive-sim environment.
- Move to Bloodlines 2 when the setting and vampire identity become the priority.
- Use Swansong for a slower, dialogue-led World of Darkness experience.
- Choose Vampyr for moral pressure around feeding and the broader action-RPG format.
- Finish with Redemption if you want historical context for licensed vampire games.
This order is not a quality score. It moves from the closest mechanical match to the closest setting match, then to games that preserve specific pieces of the experience.
Replaying the original on a modern PC
You may not need to replace Bloodlines at all. GOG says its release includes third-party technical fixes for modern systems and an offline installer. It also describes the unofficial patch as addressing serious problems in the original game.
Before buying a second copy solely because an old installation is troublesome, check the maintained GOG build or equivalent community support for the version you already own. That does not guarantee identical performance on every computer, and a community-maintained fix is not the same thing as official redevelopment. It does mean that compatibility problems should be investigated before assuming that the game is permanently inaccessible.
Final recommendation
For one answer, choose Deus Ex (2000): it most closely matches the combination of first-person role-playing, stealth, exploration, and flexible solutions that made Bloodlines distinctive. Choose Prey for the best modern immersive-sim alternative, Bloodlines 2 for World of Darkness continuity, Swansong for dialogue and politics, Vampyr for vampire morality, and Redemption for an older licensed-world experience.
