For puzzle-driven survival horror with scarce resources, start with Tormented Souls, Signalis, Crow Country or Alisa. This is not a direct substitute for survival-horror inventory play. Its appeal is atmosphere, sound, environmental observation and the gradual realization that routine spaces are no longer secure.

Night Trap is a genuine live-action option, but it belongs to a different branch of horror design. You watch filmed scenes, monitor rooms and activate traps at the correct moments to protect the occupants. The use of actors and video footage makes it relevant to anyone drawn to Tenebris Somnia‘s filmed sequences.
Do not buy it expecting free-roaming exploration, item puzzles or creature combat. It is an interactive-video experience whose tension comes from timing, observation and choosing when to intervene.
The 7th Guest
The 7th Guest is another filmed-media recommendation, this time built around a haunted mansion and a sequence of puzzles. It works best for players who want live-action performances and an eerie location, but who are happy for the game to function primarily as an adventure puzzle rather than a survival-horror combat game.
Its fit is therefore narrow but clear: filmed scenes and puzzle progression are strong matches; ammunition scarcity and improvised melee combat are not.

Faith: The Unholy Trinity
Faith: The Unholy Trinity uses an extremely limited pixel-art style inspired by early computer and console graphics. The sparse images leave room for unsettling animation, abrupt supernatural events and an atmosphere that feels like a corrupted religious broadcast. It is a good choice if the visual shock of moving between crude game imagery and disturbing spectacle is what attracts you to Tenebris Somnia.
The game is more focused on action, evasion and ritual encounters than on a conventional inventory-and-key survival-horror structure. It also has no live-action layer, so the match is primarily visual and tonal.

Lone Survivor
Lone Survivor is a side-scrolling pixel-art survival-horror game with exploration, hostile creatures, ammunition decisions and a strong psychological component. Its 2D viewpoint makes rooms easy to parse while still allowing backtracking, hidden details and uncertainty about what is safe.

This is a useful recommendation when “retro horror” means severe visual limitation and oppressive decision-making. It is not a conventional real-time survival-horror game, and its turn-based structure makes it slower and more systemic than Tenebris Somnia.
Darkwood
Darkwood offers top-down exploration, scavenging, crafting and an unusually strong sense of vulnerability. During the day, you search for materials and information; danger becomes more concentrated when visibility and safe movement disappear. The resource loop is more extensive than in many short retro-horror games.
Choose it for survival systems and atmosphere rather than visual fidelity. It has no FMV scenes and no 8- or 16-bit recreation of the classic console camera, but it understands the same basic principle: every bullet, healing item and safe route should feel valuable.
Best PS1-style alternatives
No One Lives Under the Lighthouse
No One Lives Under the Lighthouse uses low-poly presentation, isolation and a compact setting to create a slow-burn psychological horror experience. Its limited environment becomes increasingly suspicious as ordinary duties stop making sense. It is a good pick for players who value mood, visual degradation and discovery over a long list of weapons or elaborate puzzles.

Lost in Vivo
Lost in Vivo is a first-person psychological horror game with deliberately rough, late-1990s-inspired visuals. Its narrow spaces, disorienting sound and threatening encounters make movement itself stressful. It is closer to a first-person nightmare than to a 2D adventure, but it fits the low-fidelity horror axis well.

That means the most suitable expectations are closer to a compact survival-horror adventure than to a pure FMV movie or an atmospheric walking simulator.
