SOMA comes from Frictional Games, the studio identified in its press material as the creator of Amnesia: The Dark Descent. Amnesia: The Dark Descent is the clearest choice when vulnerability is the feature you want most. Frictional’s press material identifies it as first-person survival horror, and its core tension comes from darkness, limited safety and avoiding threats rather than defeating them with an arsenal.
Its puzzle-led exploration shares an important rhythm with Revival: enter an unfamiliar space, search for a way forward, notice that something is wrong, and decide whether to continue investigating while danger is nearby. Three secondary choices for a specific kind of horror
Layers of Fear — for psychological, reality-shifting puzzles
Layers of Fear is a secondary fit for players who care more about unstable perception and psychological puzzle spaces than combat. Its appeal lies in environments that change as you move through them, making the act of understanding where you are part of the horror. That makes it useful when the Genesis Configuration’s disturbing, reality-bending puzzle identity is the element you want to approximate.

The Genesis Configuration is the central distinction
The Genesis Configuration gives Revival a built-in reason for puzzles to be more than ordinary locked-door exercises. Aidan uses the box while trying to free Sunny from the Labyrinth, and official descriptions connect it to powers as well as to the game’s puzzle design. That makes the object both a progression tool and a source of danger, which is why games with generic key hunting only partially match the concept.

It is not an evasion-only game
Unlike games built around complete helplessness, Revival is described as an action-survival horror experience. Conventional weapons sit alongside Genesis Configuration abilities, and the threat roster includes cultists, wretches and Pinhead. The horror is intentionally visceral
