If you want a game that feels closest to He-Man and the Masters of the Universe: Dragon Pearl of Destruction, start with Golden Axe for classic fantasy arcade brawling, Streets of Rage 4 for deeper modern 2D combat, and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge for licensed-cartoon co-op. Battle Axe and Final Vendetta are the most relevant follow-ups if you want the retro arcade lineage associated with Dragon Pearl developer Bitmap Bureau.
This list uses the announced game’s documented identity—a side-scrolling, magic-focused beat-’em-up with local two-player play, character-specific abilities, power-ups and more than 13 levels—to explain which alternative is best for each kind of player.
What Dragon Pearl of Destruction is promising
He-Man and the Masters of the Universe: Dragon Pearl of Destruction is a side-scrolling beat-’em-up built around the Masters of the Universe cast. Nintendo describes a single-system game for one or two players, with more than 13 action-packed levels, character-specific moves, abilities and power-ups. He-Man, Teela, Man-At-Arms and other heroes face enemies including Skeletor and Evil-Lyn.
Clear River Games describes it as “a fast-paced, magic-brawler that blends the crunch of arcade classics with the high-fantasy action of the animated series.” That wording explains why the best comparisons are not limited to other licensed games. The useful reference points are fantasy arcade brawlers, modern 2D fighters with distinct characters, and cartoon co-op adventures.

- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Playable heroes and replay incentives
The announced playable roster includes He-Man, Man-At-Arms and Teela. She-Ra can be unlocked in future playthroughs, giving repeat runs a reason to revisit completed stages. Because the heroes have distinct moves and abilities, the choice of character should affect how a level is approached rather than merely changing the character model.
Release date, editions and price
Nintendo and Clear River Games currently list February 4, 2027 as the release date. An older GameSpot database entry lists September 30, 2026, but that record conflicts with the later first-party listings and may be stale.
The game is listed for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and PC through Steam. Clear River Games lists both physical and digital editions. Gematsu reports a listed launch price of $29.99/€29.99; treat that as the documented 2026 listing rather than a guarantee that every retailer, region or edition will use the same price.

The table is an editorial sorting tool, not a claim that any cited source performed a head-to-head review. The recommendations follow Dragon Pearl’s documented genre, presentation and announced features.
Golden Axe: the closest historical comparison
Golden Axe is the natural first stop if the appeal of Dragon Pearl is the combination of fantasy heroes, weapons and arcade immediacy. Its importance is less about matching the Masters of the Universe license and more about matching the underlying fantasy-brawler formula: move through a side-scrolling stage, control a larger-than-life warrior, and clear groups of enemies with readable attacks.
Why it feels similar
- Both center high-fantasy combat rather than realistic military action.
- Both are best understood through the language of arcade beat-’em-ups: short encounters, clear enemy waves and forward movement through stages.
- Both make character identity part of the appeal, so choosing a hero is more meaningful than selecting a cosmetic skin.
Where it differs
Golden Axe is the historical reference point, while Dragon Pearl is a new licensed production with announced abilities and power-ups. If you want a modern progression layer, unlockable content or a particular Masters of the Universe character, Golden Axe cannot substitute for those features. Choose it for the fantasy arcade mood, not for the license or a one-to-one move set.

Who should play it first
Pick Golden Axe before Dragon Pearl if you want to understand the classic design language that the new game is drawing on. It is also the better choice for someone who prefers straightforward arcade structure over a newer game’s added systems.

Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Streets of Rage 4: the choice for deeper 2D combat
Streets of Rage 4 is the strongest alternative when “like Dragon Pearl” means a polished, modern side-scrolling fighter rather than a fantasy setting. Its relevance is the documented comparison point of modern 2D combat depth. The emphasis is on timing, spacing, attack choices and learning how each character’s tools fit together.
Why it feels similar
- It uses the same broad side-scrolling beat-’em-up structure.
- It treats combat as a system to learn, not only a sequence of repeated basic attacks.
- Character differences matter to how encounters are solved, which makes replaying stages with another fighter worthwhile.
Where it differs
The setting is urban rather than high fantasy, so there are no Masters of the Universe heroes, magic powers or sword-and-sorcery enemies. Its appeal is mechanical depth. If you mainly want Skeletor, Teela or the animated-series atmosphere, it is a genre match rather than a thematic replacement.
Who should choose it
Choose Streets of Rage 4 if you plan to replay stages, practice advanced combinations or compare characters closely. It is the best recommendation here for players who want the combat itself to remain interesting after the first clear.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge: the licensed-cartoon co-op pick
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge is the most obvious choice for readers whose priority is a recognizable cartoon property in a cooperative brawler. Like Dragon Pearl, it translates an animated cast into side-scrolling action instead of treating the license as a purely cosmetic layer.

- It combines a familiar animated universe with quick, readable beat-’em-up combat.
- Its heroes have distinct identities, making character selection part of the fun.
- It is designed around cooperative play, which matches the appeal of sharing a campaign with another person.
Where it differs
The tone, characters and combat fiction are completely different. The Turtles’ moves are built around their established weapons and personalities, while Dragon Pearl’s announced identity emphasizes magic, fantasy heroes and Masters of the Universe powers. Consider this a presentation and co-op comparison, not a substitute for fantasy combat.

- Flawless 4K@60Hz Video with HDMI: Delivers exceptional clarity and smoothness with its 4K@60Hz HDMI port, making it ideal for high-definition presentations and entertainment. (Note: Only the HDMI port supports video projection; the USB-C port is for data transfer only.)

- What You Get: Anker USB-C Hub (7-in-1), welcome guide, 18-month warranty, and our friendly customer service.
Who should choose it
Choose Shredder’s Revenge when the most important requirement is a licensed cartoon that makes cooperative play immediately understandable to a new player. It is especially suitable for a group that values character recognition and a lighter animated tone.
Battle Axe: a Bitmap Bureau connection with fantasy flavor
Battle Axe belongs on the list because it represents Bitmap Bureau’s retro arcade lineage, the same developer lineage attached to Dragon Pearl. That connection is useful for players who are interested in how the studio approaches pixel-art presentation, stage pacing and arcade-style action.
Why it feels similar
The relevant overlap is the retro arcade outlook and fantasy-oriented combat sensibility. If the appeal of Dragon Pearl is the promise of a compact, action-first adventure that feels like an arcade game expanded for modern systems, Battle Axe is a logical companion.
Where it differs
It does not provide the Masters of the Universe cast, the announced Dragon Pearl roster or its specific magic-brawler premise. Treat it as a developer-style reference rather than a licensed-game alternative.
Who should choose it
Pick Battle Axe if visual presentation, retro pacing and the studio connection matter more to you than a large modern feature set. It is the most useful choice for someone building a short list around Bitmap Bureau itself.
Final Vendetta: Bitmap Bureau’s tougher street-fighting branch
Final Vendetta is the other essential Bitmap Bureau comparison. It keeps the focus on arcade beat-’em-up fundamentals while moving away from high fantasy. That contrast helps clarify what you actually want from Dragon Pearl: the studio’s combat approach, or the He-Man setting and magic theme.

- Please Note: To reach 10Gbps speed, keep the cable under 3.3 ft. For USB A Male to USB C adapters, try flipping the USB C connector. USB C Male to USB A adapters support bidirectional 10Gbps transfer within 3.3 ft
Why it feels similar
- It belongs to the same broad retro arcade beat-’em-up conversation.
- It is relevant to players tracking Bitmap Bureau’s design lineage.
- It offers a useful point of comparison for stage flow, enemy encounters and the feeling of playing a game designed around repeated arcade-style runs.
Where it differs
Its street-fighting identity is not a fantasy adventure. There is no reason to expect He-Man characters, magical abilities or the animated-series presentation. Its value here is mechanical and historical, not thematic.

Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. How to compare these games before buying
Use five questions to decide which alternative is genuinely right for you. They map directly to the announced features of Dragon Pearl rather than relying on a vague “similar games” label.
1. Do you want character-specific combat or a shared basic move set?
Dragon Pearl is announced with character-specific moves, abilities and power-ups. Look for a game where changing heroes changes your decisions in battle. Streets of Rage 4 is the strongest recommendation for players who want to study those differences. Golden Axe is the better fit if you want the simpler, immediately readable fantasy-arcade version of the idea.
2. Is local co-op essential?
Dragon Pearl is listed as a one- or two-player game on one system. That makes local co-op a concrete buying question, not an assumption. If you are choosing an alternative specifically for shared play, Shredder’s Revenge is the clearest licensed-cartoon recommendation. Confirm the exact player modes for the edition and platform you intend to use before purchase, because this article does not treat every version of every comparison game as identical.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3. Do you prefer a short arcade run or a larger replay structure?
Dragon Pearl is announced with more than 13 action-packed levels and an unlockable She-Ra path for future playthroughs. That points toward a campaign that is meant to be replayed with different heroes. Choose Streets of Rage 4 if replay value should come from mastering combat. Choose Golden Axe or the Bitmap Bureau titles if your ideal replay is a compact arcade-style run.
Best Value
- 5-in-1 Connectivity: Equipped with a 4K HDMI port, a 5 Gbps USB-C data port, two 5 Gbps USB-A ports, and a USB C 100W PD-IN port. Note: The USB C 100W PD-IN port supports only charging and does not support data transfer devices such as headphones or speakers.
- Powerful Pass-Through Charging: Supports up to 85W pass-through charging so you can power up your laptop while you use the hub. Note: Pass-through charging requires a charger (not included). Note: To achieve full power for iPad, we recommend using a 45W wall charger.
- Transfer Files in Seconds: Move files to and from your laptop at speeds of up to 5 Gbps via the USB-C and USB-A data ports. Note: The USB C 5Gbps Data port does not support video output.
- HD Display: Connect to the HDMI port to stream or mirror content to an external monitor in resolutions of up to 4K@30Hz. Note: The USB-C ports do not support video output.
- What You Get: Anker 332 USB-C Hub (5-in-1), welcome guide, our worry-free 18-month warranty, and friendly customer service.
4. Is the license more important than the mechanics?
No comparison can replace the Masters of the Universe cast. Shredder’s Revenge is the closest recommendation for the broader idea of a licensed cartoon brawler, but its characters and tone are different. If playing He-Man, Teela or Man-At-Arms is the point, wait for Dragon Pearl rather than treating another license as an equivalent.
5. Do you want fantasy imagery or Bitmap Bureau’s retro identity?
Golden Axe is the strongest thematic match for fantasy arcade action. Battle Axe and Final Vendetta are the strongest developer-lineage matches. Separating those priorities prevents a common mistake: choosing a game because it shares a developer connection when what you actually wanted was magic, castles and Masters of the Universe characters.
Platforms, editions and release-date checks
The announced Dragon Pearl platform list covers PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and PC via Steam. That broad release plan makes platform availability less of a barrier than it is with many niche retro brawlers, but the exact features of a platform version should still be checked when stores open preorders.
Both physical and digital editions are listed. If you want a boxed copy, search for the platform-qualified “He-Man Dragon Pearl of Destruction game” listing and verify three details before ordering: the console format, whether the listing is actually available to preorder, and whether the stated delivery date matches February 4, 2027. Retailer pages can change independently of the publisher’s announcement.
The $29.99/€29.99 figure reported by Gematsu is a listed launch price from 2026. Regional taxes, currency conversion, retailer pricing and differences between physical and digital editions can change the amount you see at checkout.
Which game should you play first?
- Choose Golden Axe if you want the closest historical fantasy-brawler reference.
- Choose Streets of Rage 4 if combat depth, technical play and character experimentation are your priorities.
- Choose Shredder’s Revenge if a licensed cartoon and cooperative play matter more than the fantasy setting.
- Choose Battle Axe if you want retro fantasy flavor connected to Bitmap Bureau’s lineage.
- Choose Final Vendetta if you want that lineage expressed through a harder-edged urban brawler.
- Wait for Dragon Pearl if the non-negotiable features are He-Man characters, magic abilities, more than 13 levels and announced two-player same-system support.
Bottom line
Golden Axe is the best overall answer to “what feels like He-Man: Dragon Pearl of Destruction?” Streets of Rage 4 is the better mechanical alternative, Shredder’s Revenge is the better licensed co-op alternative, and Battle Axe plus Final Vendetta are the most relevant Bitmap Bureau follow-ups. Dragon Pearl itself is currently listed for February 4, 2027, with physical and digital editions across six platform families and a documented launch listing of $29.99/€29.99.
