Start with Titanfall 2 if you want a tightly authored first-person science-fiction campaign with fast movement and a separate multiplayer mode. Choose Halo Infinite for the closest continuation of Halo’s campaign language and Xbox-PC network co-op. Choose Helldivers 2 when four people want repeatable missions, loadouts, stratagems and friendly fire, accepting a third-person view. Choose Destiny 2 for a persistent online ecosystem with clans, fireteam tools and a free-to-play entry point.
“Like Halo” can mean several different things: first-person gunplay, a military science-fiction setting, a story campaign, split-screen, online co-op or simply a reliable way for a group to play together. No single alternative matches all of those traits, so the right pick depends on which one matters most.

What “like Halo” should mean for your next game
Halo combines a first-person viewpoint, science-fiction combat, an authored campaign and multiplayer that works as a social activity. When readers ask for a Halo alternative, they are usually looking for one or more of those ingredients rather than an identical setting. Use these questions to identify the feature you actually want:
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
- Do you want a campaign with a beginning and an ending? Titanfall 2 is the clearest fit in this group. Halo Infinite and Halo: Campaign Evolved also center their offerings on campaigns, while Helldivers 2 and Destiny 2 emphasize repeatable or ongoing online play.
- Must the game be first-person? Titanfall 2, Halo Infinite and Halo: Campaign Evolved are first-person shooters. Helldivers 2 is explicitly third-person, which changes how you read the battlefield and use cover.
- How many people need to play together? Halo Infinite supports the player plus up to three friends through network co-op. Halo: Campaign Evolved supports two-player console split-screen or four-player online co-op. Helldivers 2 is built for the player and up to three friends.
- Do you want to keep one online game for months? Destiny 2 is designed as a continuing service with free-to-play entry, clans, Fireteam Finder and Cross Save.
- Are you choosing around a platform? Availability and co-op features differ between console and PC. Check the current store listing for your region before buying, especially when a game has multiple editions or a service component.
The table below separates the perspective, structure and co-op details instead of treating every science-fiction shooter as interchangeable.

Quick comparison: the strongest Halo alternatives
| Game | Perspective | Campaign or structure | Solo and co-op information | Party size and cross-play | Platforms and subscription notes | How close it feels to Halo |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Titanfall 2 | First-person | Authored single-player campaign plus a separate multiplayer mode | Single-player campaign is documented; campaign co-op is not stated on Electronic Arts’ page | Multiplayer details are listed, but a maximum party size and cross-play are not stated on Electronic Arts’ page | EA app, Steam, PlayStation and Xbox; subscription requirement not stated on Electronic Arts’ page | Closest for a focused FPS campaign, though its movement and Pilot-Titan relationship give it a different identity |
| Halo Infinite | First-person | Science-fiction campaign | Network co-op supports the player with up to three friends | Xbox and PC network co-op; cross-platform play is described in the Steam listing | Xbox and PC; subscription requirement is not stated in the cited listing | Closest continuation of Halo’s combat language and campaign structure |
| Halo: Campaign Evolved | First-person | Full Halo campaign presentation | Two-player split-screen on console or four-player online co-op | Four-player online co-op with cross-play and shared progression across console and PC | Console and PC details are stated by Xbox; subscription requirement is not stated on the current listing | The most direct choice when you want Halo itself with expanded co-op options |
| Helldivers 2 | Third-person | Repeatable mission-based co-op structure | Online team shooter for the player and up to three friends; loadouts, stratagems and friendly fire shape each mission | Up to four online players; cross-play is not stated on the current listing | PlayStation 5, PC and Xbox versions are listed; subscription requirement is not stated | Strong match for squad coordination and science-fiction spectacle, not for first-person or authored-campaign fidelity |
| Destiny 2 | First-person | Persistent online science-fiction ecosystem rather than a one-off campaign purchase | Free-to-play entry, clans and Fireteam Finder support ongoing group play; a fixed campaign party size is not stated on Bungie’s page | Cross Save is available; a single maximum party size and cross-play specification are not stated on the cited page | Play for Free entry point; additional collection content and any platform requirements should be checked on the current listing | Best for an evolving online world and long-term group activity, less direct if you only want one self-contained story |
Titanfall 2: the best first stop for a great solo sci-fi campaign
Titanfall 2 is the clearest recommendation when the campaign itself is the priority. Electronic Arts describes its single-player story as exploring “the bond between Pilot and Titan.” That premise gives the game a focused relationship at its center instead of treating the giant machines as anonymous equipment. The campaign is authored rather than an endless mission loop, so it suits a player who wants a deliberate sequence of set pieces and abilities.
Why it works after Halo
It remains a first-person shooter throughout, preserving the immediate weapon-and-environment perspective that Halo players expect. Its defining difference is speed: the Pilot’s movement and the Titan’s scale create a more agile rhythm than Halo’s comparatively grounded arena combat. If you enjoy learning a level’s routes, switching between human-sized movement and a powerful machine, and following a contained story, that contrast is a feature rather than a drawback.
Electronic Arts also lists a separate multiplayer mode with six Titans, new Pilot abilities, maps, modes and customization. That gives you a competitive or replayable activity after the campaign without changing the fact that the story is a self-contained single-player experience.
What to verify before buying
- The cited Electronic Arts page lists the EA app, Steam, PlayStation and Xbox. Confirm the edition and current platform storefront before purchase.
- The page documents a single-player campaign, but it does not state campaign co-op support. Do not buy Titanfall 2 expecting the four-person story mode described for other games in this guide.
- A maximum multiplayer party size, cross-play support and subscription requirement are not stated on that page. Check the current platform listing if those details determine your purchase.
Best fit
Pick Titanfall 2 for one person who wants the strongest documented authored campaign alternative. It is also a good choice when a group is happy to play a story separately and then meet in a distinct multiplayer mode, rather than insisting that the campaign itself support the whole party.
Halo Infinite: the closest non-legacy continuation of Halo’s formula
Halo Infinite is the straightforward choice when “like Halo” means “more Halo.” The Steam listing identifies it as a science-fiction first-person shooter campaign and states that network co-op lets you play with up to three friends across Xbox and PC. That combination preserves the first-person viewpoint, the Halo setting and the campaign-first structure while adding online access for a four-person group.
When Infinite is the right recommendation
- You want to remain in Halo’s universe rather than move to a different interpretation of military science fiction.
- Your group needs online campaign play for four total players: the host plus up to three friends.
- Everyone is using Xbox or PC and can confirm the required edition and account setup in the current listing.
Its co-op is network-based, so it is a different use case from a console sitting-room session. If two people want to share one console, compare the split-screen option in Halo: Campaign Evolved instead of assuming that every Halo campaign has the same local support.
Important platform and service checks
The cited listing establishes Xbox and PC network co-op, but it does not specify a subscription requirement in the material available here. Store policies, multiplayer access rules and edition contents can change, so check the current Xbox or PC page for your region. The same check should confirm whether every player owns the required campaign access rather than assuming that one purchase covers the entire group.

Halo: Campaign Evolved: the most flexible Halo co-op setup
Xbox’s current listing gives Halo: Campaign Evolved the broadest co-op combination in this comparison: two-player split-screen co-op on console, or four-player online co-op with cross-play and shared progression across console and PC. If your group alternates between couch play and online sessions, those two modes matter more than a small difference in weapon feel.
Choose split-screen when the room is the platform
Two-player split-screen is explicitly limited to console. That makes it the relevant choice for two people sharing one television, while a PC-only household should plan around online play. Split-screen also changes practical requirements: you need enough controllers and a display that remains readable at the selected viewing distance. Those are setup considerations, not a promise that every other mode supports local multiplayer.
Rank #2
- Captivating Single Player Campaign – Step on to The Frontier as a Militia rifleman with aspirations of becoming a Pilot.
- Deeper Multiplayer Action – With six brand-new Titans, a host of deadly new Pilot abilities, an expanded customisation system, new modes and much more.
- Play with Friends, or Make New Ones – The social tissue of Titanfall 2, Networks makes it fast and easy to play with friends old and new.
Choose online co-op for a four-person group
The listing supports four-player online co-op, cross-play and shared progression across console and PC. “Four-player” means four people total, not four friends in addition to the host. Shared progression is useful for a group that cannot meet every session because campaign progress can remain aligned across the supported platforms.
How it compares with Infinite
Both are first-person Halo campaigns with online co-op, but the documented strengths differ. Infinite is the current campaign entry with up to three friends on Xbox and PC. Campaign Evolved is the better fit when two-player console split-screen, cross-play and shared progression are decisive. Verify the current release status, edition and regional availability before purchasing because the Xbox listing is the authority for those details.

Helldivers 2 is the best match for a group that values coordinated sessions over a linear story. Sony Interactive Entertainment describes it as a “frenetic third-person co-operative team shooter” and says you can join forces with up to three friends. That is a four-person online squad, but the perspective and structure are intentionally different from Halo.
What changes from Halo
- Third-person view: You see your soldier rather than looking through a first-person visor. That makes the game a poor substitute if first-person aiming is non-negotiable.
- Mission-based progression: The core loop is built around repeatable missions, not one authored campaign that you complete once.
- Loadouts and stratagems: Your team prepares equipment and calls in support tools, so choosing complementary roles is part of the challenge.
- Friendly fire: Teammates can endanger one another. Communication and disciplined target selection matter as much as raw accuracy.
Why it is excellent for four friends
Every player has a reason to coordinate: one loadout may solve a problem another cannot, while a poorly timed stratagem can disrupt the entire squad. The four-person cap is easy to understand when scheduling a session, and missions can fit a group that prefers repeatable objectives to a long narrative. It is the strongest recommendation here for shared chaos, improvisation and stories that emerge from a team’s mistakes.
Platform caveats
The current PlayStation listing names PlayStation 5, PC and Xbox versions. It does not establish a maximum party larger than four, a cross-play policy or a subscription requirement in the material available here. Confirm those details on the store page for your platform and region, particularly if players are mixing console and PC.
Destiny 2: the persistent online alternative
Destiny 2 is the choice for players who want a science-fiction shooter to remain part of their routine. Bungie’s current page exposes a “Play for Free” entry point alongside “The Collection,” “Clans,” “Fireteam Finder” and “Cross Save.” Those features signal an ongoing ecosystem rather than a single campaign that ends after the credits.
Why a Halo player might prefer it
Destiny 2 keeps the first-person perspective while adding systems for finding and maintaining a group. Clans give regular players a shared identity; Fireteam Finder helps assemble a squad when your usual friends are unavailable; and Cross Save is designed to carry a player’s progress between supported platforms. The free-to-play entry point also lets a new player evaluate the basic ecosystem before deciding whether additional collection content is worthwhile.
Where it is less like Halo
A persistent service has a different cadence from an authored Halo campaign. Content, activities and access conditions can change, and the page does not state one universal campaign party size for every activity. If your main requirement is a fixed story that four friends can start and finish together, choose Infinite or Campaign Evolved first. If your requirement is a long-term home for a clan, Destiny 2 is the more natural fit.
Plan around the free-to-play boundary
“Play for Free” describes an entry point, not a guarantee that every activity in “The Collection” is included. Check the current Bungie listing for the content available in your region and the access needed for a specific campaign or activity. Treat Cross Save as a progression feature, not automatic proof that every platform supports identical co-op matchmaking.
Rank #3
Which game should you choose?
| Your priority | Choose | Reason |
|---|---|---|
| A polished, self-contained first-person campaign | Titanfall 2 | Its documented single-player story focuses on the Pilot-Titan bond and is separate from multiplayer. |
| The closest current continuation of Halo | Halo Infinite | It keeps the Halo setting and first-person campaign format while supporting network co-op for up to three friends. |
| Two people on one console | Halo: Campaign Evolved | Xbox lists two-player console split-screen explicitly. |
| Four people across console and PC in a Halo campaign | Halo: Campaign Evolved | Its listing states four-player online co-op, cross-play and shared progression across console and PC. |
| Four friends who want repeatable missions and squad chaos | Helldivers 2 | It supports the player and up to three friends, with loadouts, stratagems and friendly fire. |
| A long-term online home with clans and matchmaking tools | Destiny 2 | Its free-to-play entry, clans, Fireteam Finder and Cross Save support an ongoing ecosystem. |
How to make a co-op purchase without an unpleasant surprise
- Count the players correctly. Write down the total number of people, including the host. A listing that says “up to three friends” means four players total.
- Separate local from online play. Split-screen is not interchangeable with network co-op. Campaign Evolved’s two-player split-screen is console-only; its four-player mode is online.
- Confirm the perspective. Choose Titanfall 2, Infinite, Campaign Evolved or Destiny 2 for first-person play. Choose Helldivers 2 only if your group is comfortable with third-person combat.
- Decide whether you need an ending. Pick an authored campaign for a planned story night. Pick Helldivers 2 for repeatable missions or Destiny 2 for a continuing service.
- Check every platform in the group. Read the current store page for each region and edition. The documented platform lists are not identical, and availability can change.
- Verify access requirements. Subscription rules, required editions and included campaign content are not fully stated for every title here. Confirm them before purchase rather than assuming that a free-to-play entry or a multiplayer listing includes everything.
- Test the group’s schedule. A persistent game rewards regular sessions, while a self-contained campaign is easier to complete when everyone has limited time. Choose the structure that matches how often your group can meet.
Common mistakes and how to avoid them
Buying a single-player recommendation for a group campaign
Titanfall 2 is the strongest authored-campaign recommendation, but the cited page does not document campaign co-op. If the story must be played together, select Infinite or Campaign Evolved instead.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Assuming every four-player game is first-person
Helldivers 2 reaches the four-person goal through a third-person perspective. Make that trade deliberately; it is not a hidden setting that turns the game into a first-person Halo substitute.
Confusing cross-play with cross-save
Campaign Evolved’s listing explicitly mentions cross-play and shared progression. Destiny 2’s page explicitly mentions Cross Save. Those terms address different needs: one concerns playing together across platforms, while the other concerns carrying progress. Read the exact feature listed for the game you are considering.
Overlooking friendly fire
Helldivers 2 includes friendly fire as part of its mission design. Groups that normally rush objectives in Halo may need clearer callouts and safer stratagem placement. That friction is part of the game’s co-op identity, not a technical defect.
Treating a live-service game like a finished boxed campaign
Destiny 2’s free-to-play entry and ongoing tools are advantages for a continuing group, but they also mean that content and access can evolve. If your goal is a fixed story with a known co-op format, an authored campaign is easier to plan.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteFinal recommendations by player type
For the solo player who wants one excellent story
Start with Titanfall 2. Its first-person campaign and Pilot-Titan relationship give it a clear narrative identity, and its separate multiplayer mode provides an optional second activity.
For the Halo fan who wants to stay in the formula
Choose Halo Infinite when you want a current first-person Halo campaign with network co-op for up to three friends. Choose Campaign Evolved instead when console split-screen, four-player online co-op, cross-play or shared progression is the deciding feature.
For four friends planning regular squad nights
Choose Helldivers 2 if repeatable missions, loadouts, stratagems and friendly fire sound more appealing than a linear campaign. Its third-person view is the main compromise.
For a clan that wants a continuing home
Choose Destiny 2. Its Play for Free entry, clans, Fireteam Finder and Cross Save are built around an ongoing online ecosystem rather than a one-time campaign.
