Start with Adapt sound if speech or music is hard for you to hear, then compare Dolby Atmos and Equalizer settings using the same clip and output device. For one-sided listening, adjust Left/right sound balance or enable Mono audio. There is no Samsung-published preset proven to make every Galaxy Z Fold clearer, so the best setting is the one that improves intelligibility and comfort for your ears, content and listening device.

What to change first

The most useful order is personalization, content effects, channel controls and finally routing. This prevents a routing option from being mistaken for a clarity improvement and makes each change easy to evaluate.

  1. Personalize with Adapt sound. Samsung describes it as optimizing sound for calls or media. On the Galaxy Z Fold6 manual, the path is Settings → Accessibility → Hearing enhancements → Adapt sound.
  2. Compare Dolby Atmos and Equalizer. These affect the character of music, video, games or speech. Use the same short passage with each option off and on rather than assuming a named mode is universally clearer.
  3. Correct channel problems. Left/right sound balance moves the stereo signal toward one side. Mono audio combines the two stereo channels into one signal.
  4. Fix where audio plays separately. Separate app sound sends a selected app to a chosen device; it changes routing, not the detail or intelligibility of the sound itself.

Menu names and feature availability can differ between Fold generations and software versions. If a path does not match your phone, search Settings for Adapt sound, Dolby Atmos, Equalizer, Mono audio or Separate app sound, then confirm the options in your model’s manual.

Adapt sound: the best starting point for personal clarity

Adapt sound is the strongest official starting point when your goal is to hear calls or media more comfortably. It asks you to choose an offered profile or age group and follow on-screen prompts. Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold6 documentation places it in Hearing enhancements, while broader Galaxy audio guidance places it under Sounds and vibration → Sound quality and effects. The difference reflects model and software variation rather than two different audio technologies.

Apple EarPods Headphones with USB-C Plug, Wired Ear Buds with Built-in Remote to Control Music, Phone Calls, and Volume
  • SUPERIOR COMFORT — Unlike traditional circular ear buds, the design of EarPods is defined by the geometry of the ear. Which makes them more comfortable for more people than any other ear bud–style headphones.
  • HIGH-QUALITY AUDIO — The speakers inside EarPods have been engineered to maximize sound output and minimize sound loss, which means you get high-quality audio.
  • BUILT-IN REMOTE — EarPods with USB-C plug also include a built-in remote that lets you adjust the volume, control the playback of music and video, and answer or end calls with a pinch of the cord.
  • COMPATIBILITY — Works with all devices that have a USB-C port.
  • INTEGRATED MICROPHONE — A built-in microphone precisely captures your voice while you’re on the phone, taking a FaceTime call, or summoning Siri — so you’re always heard loud and clear.

Set up Adapt sound

  1. Open Settings.
  2. On a Fold6, select Accessibility → Hearing enhancements → Adapt sound. On other Galaxy models, check Sounds and vibration → Sound quality and effects → Adapt sound.
  3. Select the profile or age group offered by your phone.
  4. Follow the listening prompts and save the result when the setup finishes.

Some preview screens or hearing-test steps require connected headphones. Connect a compatible headset only when the phone asks for it; headphones are not required merely to open the core sound settings or to adjust the Fold’s built-in speakers.

When Adapt sound helps most

  • Calls: use the call-oriented result if voices are difficult to distinguish from background sound.
  • Media: use the media-oriented result when dialogue, podcasts or other spoken content is the problem.
  • Personal hearing differences: the guided profile is more defensible than choosing a preset based on someone else’s ears.

Adapt sound is a personalization tool, not a guarantee of a measured improvement for every listener. If the result sounds tiring, unnatural or less intelligible, return to the setup and compare the available alternatives at a comfortable volume.

Dolby Atmos and Equalizer: tune the content, not just the phone

Open Settings → Sounds and vibration → Sound quality and effects on phones that use that layout. There you may find Dolby Atmos and Equalizer. Exact labels and availability vary by Fold model and software.

Dolby Atmos modes

Samsung presents Dolby Atmos modes for content such as movies, music and voice. A mode intended for a film can emphasize a different presentation from one intended for spoken audio, so compare the mode against Off with the same scene or sentence. Spatial effects can make a soundtrack seem wider, but a wider presentation is not automatically clearer dialogue. For accessibility listening, comfortable speech audibility matters more than a larger stereo image.

Equalizer presets and frequency controls

Equalizer may offer genre presets or direct frequency controls. Start with the preset that matches what you are playing, then compare it with Off. If the phone exposes frequency sliders, make one small change at a time and listen again. Large boosts can make a recording louder while also making it harsher or less balanced; the useful test is whether consonants and words become easier to understand without fatigue.

Control What it changes Useful comparison Important limitation
Adapt sound Personalizes sound for calls or media through a guided profile or hearing-oriented setup. Compare the offered profile or age-group options with the feature off. Some previews or test steps require connected headphones; no universal clarity result is established.
Dolby Atmos Applies selectable sound effects aimed at content such as movies, music and voice. Use the same passage with Off and the relevant content mode. A spatial or effects change is not proof of clearer speech for every listener.
Equalizer Applies genre presets or frequency adjustments. Compare one preset or small slider change at a time. A louder or brighter signal can still be less comfortable or less accurate.
Left/right sound balance Moves the stereo balance toward the left or right channel. Play a stereo track while making a small adjustment. It does not repair a damaged speaker, cable or recording.
Mono audio Combines stereo channels into one signal played through headphone speakers. Compare stereo and mono when using one earbud or when one side is harder to hear. Mono removes stereo separation.

Fix one-sided listening with balance or Mono audio

Left/right sound balance

In Settings → Accessibility → Hearing enhancements, look for Left/right sound balance. Move the control only as far as necessary when one ear or one headphone channel is consistently weaker. A centered balance is the neutral starting point for normal stereo listening. Extreme movement can make the other channel disappear, so verify the result with speech and music rather than a single sound.

Mono audio

Mono audio combines the left and right stereo channels into one signal played through the headphone speakers. It can help when you are using one earbud or when stereo separation causes important speech to sit in the less-heard channel. The trade-off is deliberate: left-right separation is removed, so music and game sound no longer have the same stereo placement.

Balance and mono solve different problems. Use balance when both channels are useful but one needs to be quieter or louder. Use mono when you need the information from both channels available on either side.

Separate app sound: solve the destination, not the clarity

Separate app sound lets a selected app’s media play through a chosen device while the phone uses a different main audio output. Samsung specifies that the selected device must differ from the phone’s main audio output.

  1. Open the phone’s sound settings and select Separate app sound.
  2. Choose the app whose media should be separated.
  3. Choose the output device for that app.
  4. Make sure the selected device is different from the phone’s main audio output.
  5. Play the app and confirm that each stream is going to the intended destination.

This is useful when, for example, one app should use a connected device while other phone audio remains on the main output. It does not add detail, correct a frequency imbalance or make the Fold’s speaker inherently clearer. If the sound is going to the wrong place, fix Separate app sound before changing Dolby Atmos or Equalizer.

UHQ upscaling and wired headphones

Samsung documents UHQ upscaling for wired headphone playback. Treat it as an optional output-specific feature, not a requirement for the Fold’s built-in speakers and not evidence that every recording will become clearer. A USB-C wired headphone can also be useful when an Adapt sound preview or hearing-test step asks for connected headphones.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Check the connector and compatibility for your particular Fold and headset. The phone’s core settings remain usable without a wired headset, and the supplied guidance does not establish that a particular headphone model produces a measured clarity advantage.

A repeatable way to find your own clearest setting

Samsung’s support material explains what the controls do but does not publish a controlled comparison showing that one setting makes every Galaxy Z Fold clearer. You can still make a disciplined personal comparison.

  1. Choose one source. Use a short speech passage, song section or game scene that you know well. Do not switch apps or recordings between tests.
  2. Keep the output fixed. Compare the phone speakers with the phone speakers, or the same headphones throughout. Do not compare a speaker setting with a different headset at the same time.
  3. Keep volume fixed. Set a comfortable level and return to it after every change. A louder option can seem clearer simply because it is louder.
  4. Change one control. Start with Adapt sound, then test Dolby Atmos modes, then Equalizer options. Reset the previous control when you want to isolate the next one.
  5. Score the result. Note speech intelligibility, tonal balance, stereo width, distortion or harshness, and whether calls and media behave differently.
  6. Test the real task. If your problem is calls, use a call or voice recording. If it is movie dialogue, use dialogue. A setting that helps music may not help voices.
  7. Keep comfort as the decision rule. For accessibility use, a comfortable, intelligible result is more valuable than extra bass, brightness or spatial width.

This method is a practical listening comparison, not a Samsung test protocol and not a measured performance claim.

Recommended starting points by listening situation

Your situation Start here Then check Trade-off to watch
Calls or spoken media are difficult to follow Adapt sound using the guided profile. Compare a voice-oriented Dolby Atmos mode and Equalizer Off. Effects that make sound wider or brighter may not improve words.
Movies sound spacious but dialogue is masked Compare Dolby Atmos Off with the voice-oriented option. Try Adapt sound for media and a modest Equalizer change. Spatial effects can change width without improving intelligibility.
Music sounds unbalanced Compare Equalizer Off with the relevant genre preset. Try small frequency adjustments and then check Dolby Atmos music mode. Large boosts can add harshness or fatigue.
One earbud or one ear is doing most of the listening Enable Mono audio. Set Left/right sound balance only as needed. Mono removes stereo separation.
The right app plays through the wrong device Configure Separate app sound. Confirm that its chosen device differs from the main output. Routing changes destination, not sound quality.
Using wired headphones Run Adapt sound when prompted. Compare UHQ upscaling for the wired playback path. UHQ is documented for wired headphone playback, not as a universal speaker enhancer.

Troubleshooting when a setting does not help

The menu is missing

Do not assume the feature was removed. Samsung’s paths differ across Fold generations and software. Search Settings for the feature name, check both the Accessibility and Sounds and vibration sections, and consult the manual for your exact model. The Galaxy Z Fold6 manual specifically places Adapt sound under Hearing enhancements.

The change affects music but not calls

Calls and media can use different processing paths. Test the setting with the type of audio you actually want to improve, then compare the appropriate Adapt sound profile. Do not judge a call-oriented change only with a song.

The sound is louder but not clearer

Return to the same volume and compare Off with the selected effect. Equalizer boosts and spatial effects can increase perceived loudness or brightness without improving speech intelligibility. Use the words you can distinguish and listening comfort as the test.

Only one side sounds wrong

Check Left/right sound balance and then Mono audio. If the imbalance remains with the controls centered and with another output device, the cause may be the earbud, connector, speaker or recording rather than a sound preset.

Separate app sound appears ineffective

Verify that the app is selected, the intended device is selected, and that the selected device differs from the phone’s main audio output. If both outputs are the same, the feature cannot create the separation Samsung describes.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Adapt sound setup will not continue

Follow the phone’s prompt about connected headphones. Some profile previews or hearing-test steps require them. A compatible wired headset is optional for general settings, but it may be necessary for that particular personalization step.

What “best” means for a Galaxy Z Fold

The evidence supports a process rather than a universal preset. Adapt sound is the appropriate first experiment for an individual listener; Dolby Atmos and Equalizer are content-dependent effects; Mono audio and balance address channel access; Separate app sound addresses routing; and UHQ upscaling is documented for wired headphone playback. Samsung’s documents do not provide a controlled comparison or a statistic proving that one combination wins for every Fold owner.

Use your exact Fold model’s menu labels, keep the output and volume constant, and retain the combination that makes the words or music you actually use easiest and most comfortable to hear.
