For a premium fixed-lens compact, choose the Fujifilm X100VI; for a small interchangeable-lens camera, consider the X-E5; and for video-led content creation, look at the X-M5. The GFX100RF is a separate, high-budget option for buyers specifically seeking a fixed-lens medium-format camera. The right choice depends less on retro styling than on whether you need lens flexibility, an eye-level finder, or video-friendly handling.
Which Fujifilm camera should you buy?
| Camera | Best suited to | Lens setup | Viewfinder and screen | Key trade-off |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Fujifilm X100VI | Everyday stills with a fixed 35mm-equivalent view | Fixed 23mm f/2 lens | Hybrid optical/electronic finder; tilting display | You cannot change focal length; weatherproofing requires an additional adapter ring |
| Fujifilm X-E5 | Compact photography with lens choice | Interchangeable Fujifilm X-mount lenses | Electronic viewfinder; tilting touchscreen | You must choose, buy, and carry a lens |
| Fujifilm X-M5 | Video, vlogging, and screen-based shooting | Interchangeable Fujifilm X-mount lenses | No viewfinder; vari-angle touchscreen | No in-body image stabilization; digital video stabilization crops the image |
| Fujifilm GFX100RF | Specialist buyers seeking a fixed-lens medium-format camera | Fixed lens | Check Fujifilm’s current product details for the configuration | Premium specialist category; launch pricing is historical, not a current offer |
Fujifilm’s current US camera catalog lists models across its X and GFX categories. The cameras above are not interchangeable substitutes: the X100VI and GFX100RF have fixed lenses, while the X-E5 and X-M5 let you select an X-mount lens.
What matters most when choosing?
Fixed lens or interchangeable lenses
A fixed lens makes the camera a self-contained setup, but commits you to its field of view. On the X100VI, the 23mm f/2 lens gives a 35mm-equivalent field of view. If you want to move from a wide view to a longer one by changing lenses, the X-E5 or X-M5 is a better starting point; account for the cost and bulk of the lens as well as the body.
How you prefer to compose
The X100VI provides a hybrid optical/electronic viewfinder, while the X-E5 has an electronic viewfinder. The X-M5 has no eye-level finder, so you compose on its rear screen. That vari-angle screen is useful for vlogging and camera placement, but is a meaningful compromise if you routinely shoot with a finder.
#1 Best Overall
- Get the stunning looks of the iconic FUJIFILM X100VI with the added creative flexibility of interchangeable lenses. A similar size and weight to the popular fixed lens X100VI, FUJIFILM X-E5 delivers the same analog controls and a film-camera-inspired user experience but gives you the option to switch lenses to suit your creative needs. X-E5 is compatible with over 40 X Mount optics and accessories, including the all-new XF23mmF2.8 R WR, so the perfect image is always within reach.
- FUJIFILM X-E5 echoes the timeless style of rangefinder film cameras and features a stunning machined aluminum top-plate. Aesthetically beautiful, the top-plate exudes quality and durability thanks to its premium look and feel as well as delivering a precise, angular design. X-E5 offers analog controls for quick, easy access to core functions, while additional features such as the Bluetooth connectivity button - placed on the base like a film rewind button - enhance the camera’s nostalgic feel.
- A first for X Series cameras, FUJIFILM X-E5 features a customizable Film Simulation dial. Neatly placed under the aluminum top-plate with a circular window providing an easy view of the active mode, the dial provides fast access to Fujifilm’s unique Film Simulation modes that deliver stunning results straight out of camera. Additionally, the dial has three customizable settings, which give users the option to create and save their own recipes for instant recall in the field.
- Sometimes the best images are made when lighting is low and, thanks to the in-body image stabilization (IBIS) on FUJIFILM X-E5, you’ll be able to tackle these situations in complete confidence. Providing up to seven stops of benefit at the center of the frame and six stops at the edges, the IBIS system features a new algorithm and upgraded gyro sensor to deliver an improved performance that helps keep crucial images free from camera shake.
- Image quality is assured with FUJIFILM X-E5 thanks to the latest 40.2-megapixel X-Trans 5 HR sensor and X-Processor 5 imaging engine. This combination brings additional functionality, including a lower base ISO of 125 and deep learning AI-powered subject detection AF across a broader range of subjects. The higher resolution also unlocks a two-step digital teleconverter feature, which crops into the sensor to provide a 1.4x or 2x zoom, giving further in camera flexibility.
Stabilization and video
In-body image stabilization is listed among the X100VI’s strengths. The X-M5 omits it, and its digital video stabilization crops the frame. For handheld X-M5 video, consider a lens with optical stabilization or a gimbal. Its 6.2K open-gate video makes it the more video-oriented choice of these X-series bodies, but the X100VI also records video up to 6.2K at 30p; resolution alone does not make one camera best for every video workflow.
Total kit and handling
Compare the complete setup you would actually use: body, lens or lenses, memory, and any accessories needed for your use. A compact body with a lens attached may handle differently from the body alone. For X100VI weatherproofing, factor in the additional adapter ring mentioned in the 2026 Digital Camera World guide. Current stock, street prices, shipping dates, and kit contents are not established here; verify them with the seller for your region and check whether a quoted price is body-only or includes a lens.

Fujifilm X100VI: a premium fixed-lens everyday camera
The X100VI is the clearest choice if you want a self-contained camera with a 35mm-equivalent view and a hybrid finder. Digital Camera World’s 2026 compact-camera guide lists a 40.2MP APS-C X-Trans sensor, fixed 23mm f/2 lens, 3-inch tilting display, and 3.69-million-dot hybrid optical/electronic viewfinder. It also lists continuous shooting up to 11 fps with the mechanical shutter or 20 fps with the electronic shutter, and video up to 6.2K at 30p.

The fixed focal length is both the camera’s defining convenience and its main limitation: you cannot swap to another focal length when a scene calls for a tighter or wider view. The guide also flags the premium price positioning and cropped 6K video. Its reviewer, Gareth Bevan, describes the appeal this way: “Its fixed 23mm f/2 lens gives me a 35mm-equivalent field of view, there are proper physical exposure controls, and the rangefinder-inspired body is beautifully made.”

Choose it for everyday still photography if that fixed view suits how you shoot. It is a poor fit if you need multiple focal lengths from one camera or a vari-angle screen for vlogging.
Fujifilm X-E5: compact styling with lens flexibility
The X-E5 is the better direction if you like the compact, rangefinder-like idea but do not want to be tied to a built-in lens. Fujifilm identifies it as a current X Series mirrorless model, and its official specifications list Fujifilm X mount, a 0.39-inch 2.36-million-dot OLED electronic viewfinder, and a tilting 3-inch 1.04-million-dot touchscreen. Electronic-shutter bursts reach up to 20 fps with a 1.29x crop.

- Dedicated Film Simulation dial offering fast access to 20 Film Simulations (including REALA ACE mode)
- 40.2-megapixel X-Trans CMOS 5 HR sensor
- Supports all X Series lenses and includes a 1.4x and 2x Digital Teleconverter
- 6.2K/30P, 4K/60P, FHD/240P, 4:2:2 10-Bit Video
- Native Frame.io Camera to Cloud integration with no accessory requirements
That flexibility brings a practical decision the X100VI avoids: selecting a lens. A compact prime can keep a small-camera setup, while other lenses can change what the camera can frame. The cited specifications establish the body’s features, but not a current kit price or a controlled performance comparison with the X100VI; compare the setup and seller offer you intend to buy rather than assuming either body is the cheaper choice.

The X-M5 is aimed at buyers who prioritize video and content creation over an eye-level viewfinder. Digital Camera World’s 2026 retro-camera guide lists a 26.1MP APS-C sensor, vari-angle touchscreen, 6.2K open-gate video, and body weight of 355 g. It has no viewfinder and no in-body image stabilization. Because digital stabilization crops the image, a stabilized lens or gimbal may matter for handheld footage.
Best Value
- Capture timeless moments effortlessly with the FUJIFILM X100VI camera. Featuring a classic dial-based design merged with cutting-edge imaging technology, it offers 1.5x more resolution and double the speed of its predecessor. With an internal 4-stop ND and digital teleconverters, it ensures precise exposure control and closer shots. Experience the charm of analog photography combined with modern functionality, guaranteeing unforgettable memories.
- When the light is low, and the stakes are high X100VI ensures photos stay sharp and videos stable thanks to up to 6 stops in-body image stabilization (IBIS) system. Internal gyro sensors minimize the impact of camera shake for those critical moments by detecting movements and vibrations across five axes.
- Stay versatile! In addition to 40.2MP stills, X100VI delivers professional quality video straight out of camera in resolutions up to 6.2K/30P and 4K/60P. On-the-go content creators can also use one of Fujifilm’s 20 built in unique Film Simulation modes, including the new REALA ACE, and take control with two F-Log options to maximize flexibility in post-production workflows.
- Be ready for every creative moment with X100VI’s state-of-the-art autofocus (AF) system. By harnessing the power of its new X-Processor 5 image processing engine, the camera uses a state-of-the-art AF algorithm and deep learning AI technology to broaden the range of subjects it can recognize. This enables it to accurately track objects, even in low-light conditions when unpredictability can be the difference between getting the image or missing it.
- Create, share and collaborate in an instant with X100VI’s native Frame.io Camera to Cloud technology. Wirelessly connect to an active internet connection, authenticate to Frame.io, and start uploading photos and videos at the moment of creation.
The guide’s writer considers the X-M5 its strongest fit for people seeking Fujifilm’s retro aesthetic and color science in a content-creation body. That is a reviewer’s judgment, not a comparative laboratory result. Bevan also notes: “The X-M5 is the least traditionally ‘retro’ camera in this guide in terms of how it actually operates.” In other words, its styling should not be taken as a promise of traditional dial-led handling.
Fujifilm GFX100RF: a specialist, not a typical compact alternative
The GFX100RF belongs on the shortlist only if you specifically want a fixed-lens camera in Fujifilm’s GFX medium-format system and have a budget for a premium specialist model. Digital Camera World’s 2026 compact-camera guide describes it as a 102-megapixel medium-format compact. Fujifilm North America’s March 20, 2025 announcement called it the first fixed-lens mirrorless digital camera in the GFX System.
That announcement stated expected US availability in late April 2025 and a US MSRP of $4,899.95 (with a Canadian MSRP of $6,999). Those are launch-era figures, not verified current prices or offers. Check Fujifilm and sellers in your region for present availability and pricing.
Choose by the camera you will actually use
- Pick the X100VI if its fixed 35mm-equivalent view, hybrid finder, and self-contained setup match your everyday still photography.
- Pick the X-E5 if you want a compact X-mount body with an electronic finder and the option to change lenses.
- Pick the X-M5 if a vari-angle screen and video-oriented features matter more than an eye-level finder or in-body stabilization.
- Consider the GFX100RF only if its fixed-lens medium-format format and specialist positioning are specifically what you want.
Before buying, decide whether you need one fixed field of view or lens choice, whether you compose through a finder, how much video you shoot, and what stabilization your use requires. Then compare the full kit cost and current seller terms for your location.
