There is no single best 1440p FreeSync monitor for every gamer: the right pick depends on your budget, games, room lighting, motion priorities, and panel preference. For a value-oriented IPS baseline, consider the Dell G2724D when it is available at a good price; for OLED, compare the exact ASUS ROG Strix XG27AQDMGR SKU; and for a Mini LED option, PC Gamer’s 2026 pick is the KTC M27T6S. These are candidates drawn from manufacturer specifications and attributed editorial recommendations—not hands-on testing by this article’s author. Prices, stock, and rankings change, and the cited recommendation guide is for the United States.
Which 1440p FreeSync monitor fits your priorities?
All of the options below pair a 2560×1440 resolution with adaptive refresh technology, but they serve different needs. A higher refresh-rate number alone does not establish better motion handling, and an HDR label does not tell you how convincing the picture will look. Compare current local pricing and availability, the exact model, and the features that matter to your setup.
| Candidate | Best suited to | What the cited sources establish | What to check before buying |
|---|---|---|---|
| Dell G2724D | Value-oriented IPS gaming | Dell lists a 27-inch Fast IPS QHD panel, 165 Hz over DisplayPort, 144 Hz over HDMI, and FreeSync Premium. RTINGS describes it as a basic-feature entry-level model. | Current stock and street price; whether its limited extras and HDMI refresh ceiling suit your setup. |
| ASUS ROG Strix XG27AQDMGR | OLED image quality | ASUS lists this family variant as a QHD OLED monitor with FreeSync Premium Pro and G-SYNC compatibility. | Exact regional SKU and suffix, price, room lighting, warranty, and how much static desktop content you use. |
| KTC M27T6S | Mini LED and high refresh rate | PC Gamer’s 2026 guide names it its best 1440p gaming monitor and lists 27-inch IPS, QHD, 200 Hz, and FreeSync Premium. | Local price and availability, dimming behavior, warranty, and whether its HDR strengths fit your viewing conditions. |
For a broader United States shortlist, RTINGS’ 2026 guide names the ASUS ROG Swift OLED PG27AQWP-W its best 1440p model and also discusses the LG 27GX700A-B, HyperX OMEN OLED 27q, Dell Alienware AW2726DM, AOC Q27G40XMN, LG 27GR83Q-B, and ASUS ROG Strix XG27ACS. Those are RTINGS’ rankings and alternatives, not a universal order; availability and preferences differ by market. RTINGS notes that OLED panel types vary in bright-room performance and color characteristics. It also says the Dell Alienware AW2726DM lacks HDMI 2.1 bandwidth. PC Gamer describes the KTC’s Mini LED HDR brightness as a strength while noting its lighting precision is less exact than OLED.
What FreeSync does—and what it does not do
FreeSync synchronizes a supported display’s refresh rate with the frame rate produced by a compatible graphics system. AMD says the technology is intended to reduce or eliminate artifacts including screen tearing and stutter, as well as input latency. It does not increase the GPU’s rendering performance or guarantee a stable frame rate.
#1 Best Overall
- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
AMD describes the technology this way: “AMD FreeSync technology is an AMD initiative that leverages industry standards such as DisplayPort™ Adaptive-Sync and HDMI Variable Refresh Rate, to deliver dynamic refresh rates to users.” FreeSync can work over HDMI and DisplayPort on certified displays, but the monitor, graphics hardware, connection, and selected mode all need to support the feature.
FreeSync tiers are not interchangeable labels
- FreeSync: Check the monitor’s certification and supported refresh-rate range rather than assuming all adaptive-sync implementations are equivalent.
- FreeSync Premium: AMD’s tier requirements include Low Framerate Compensation (LFC).
- FreeSync Premium Pro: This tier includes LFC requirements and targets HDR as well. The label alone does not guarantee that every HDR implementation will look equally good.
LFC helps a display remain within its supported variable-refresh range when game frame rates fall below the display’s minimum. AMD gives the example of a 60–144 Hz display doubling a 40 FPS output to synchronize at 80 Hz. This does not make the game run at 80 FPS; it changes how frames are presented.

How to choose between IPS, OLED, and Mini LED
IPS: practical all-round gaming
IPS is a sensible starting point if you want an LCD gaming display and value a balance of refresh rate, image quality, and price. The Dell G2724D is a concrete reference: Dell specifies 165 Hz through DisplayPort and 144 Hz through HDMI, so make sure the port you plan to use meets your target. RTINGS calls its feature set basic, notes that it lacks a USB hub and audio jack, and says it can be hard to find at retailers. In its review updated February 2025, RTINGS says the ASUS ROG Strix XG27ACS is a close entry-level alternative with USB-C DisplayPort Alt Mode and somewhat better motion handling; it describes the Dell as a reasonable value when cheaper. That review is not a live price guide.

OLED is a premium image-quality route to compare against LCD, but the experience varies by panel and viewing conditions. RTINGS’ 2026 guide notes differences in OLED bright-room performance and color characteristics. Before buying, consider how brightly lit your room is, whether you will leave static desktop elements onscreen for long periods, the warranty terms, return policy, and the price. The ASUS ROG Strix XG27AQDMGR is one specific family variant: ASUS lists FreeSync Premium Pro and G-SYNC compatibility, but confirm the regional model suffix instead of assuming another XG27AQDMG SKU is identical.

Mini LED: consider HDR brightness and dimming behavior
Mini LED can be a useful alternative when HDR brightness is a priority. PC Gamer’s 2026 guide recommends the KTC M27T6S, listing a 27-inch IPS panel, 2560×1440 resolution, 200 Hz refresh rate, and FreeSync Premium. The guide praises its Mini LED HDR brightness but says its lighting precision is not as exact as OLED. Treat that as PC Gamer’s assessment, and compare the monitor’s dimming behavior, price, local availability, and warranty for yourself.
Check these details before you order
- Resolution and size: Confirm the listing says 2560×1440 (QHD) and verify the diagonal size you want.
- Refresh rate by connection: A monitor may support different maximum refresh rates over DisplayPort and HDMI. Check the port-specific figures and whether your graphics device and cable support the mode.
- VRR support: Verify the exact FreeSync tier, the monitor’s supported variable-refresh range, and compatibility for your graphics hardware and chosen connection.
- Motion behavior: Refresh-rate specifications do not, by themselves, establish how clearly a display handles motion. Give weight to attributed testing for the exact model.
- HDR quality: Look beyond the HDR label. Consider the panel approach and review findings about brightness, contrast, and dimming.
- Ports and extras: Check HDMI bandwidth and whether you need USB-C, a USB hub, audio output, or a particular console connection.
- Ergonomics and ownership: Verify stand adjustments, VESA mounting support, warranty coverage, and the return policy in your region.
- Local price and stock: Rankings reflect particular markets and can change as products become harder to find or alternatives cost less.
How to verify FreeSync is active
- Check the monitor menu: Use the monitor’s on-screen display to enable its FreeSync or adaptive-sync option if it is off.
- Check AMD Software: On a compatible AMD system, open AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition and look under Display settings to inspect FreeSync status and tier. AMD says compatible systems can enable FreeSync automatically.
- Confirm the connection and mode: Make sure the selected HDMI or DisplayPort connection supports the refresh-rate and variable-refresh mode you intend to use.
- Manage frame rates above the display ceiling: If a game exceeds the display’s maximum refresh rate, AMD recommends V-Sync or a frame-rate cap for a tear-free experience.
AMD’s support instructions for checking and configuring FreeSync were last updated March 3, 2025.
