For Android, PlayTable: Classic Board Games is the broadest free option in the current listings; for iPhone, Board Games – Classics offers familiar classics for offline solo or same-device play. If you want a larger iPhone collection and are willing to pay once, Boardalo lists 37 games, with ten free and 27 unlocked by a one-time purchase. Offline Arcade is another iOS and Android option, but it describes optional rewarded ads. These are descriptions in current store listings and the developer site, not results of independent airplane-mode testing.
Here, “table games” means digital board, card, and logic games that you play on a tabletop-style board or screen, rather than online-only games. The right choice depends on more than a download price: check whether the specific game works without a connection, whether you want to play alone or share one phone, and which games and features are included free. The apps below are useful starting points, but availability, catalog details, prices, and compatibility can change.
Best free offline table-game apps at a glance

| Boardalo: Chess & Board Games | Apple App Store | Listing describes 37 classic games, fully offline play, pass-and-play, and nearby play. | Ten games are free; one purchase unlocks the other 27. No subscription is listed. | iPhone users who want a larger collection and accept a one-time unlock. |
| Offline Arcade | Its developer site says iOS and Android | Site describes locally run games including Solitaire, Chess, Sudoku, and Tic Tac Toe, with pass-and-play for several games. | Site describes optional rewarded ads. | Players who want a cross-platform collection and do not mind optional ads. |
Catalogs, prices, regional availability, and device compatibility can change. Check the current listing for your device before downloading. The PlayTable listing reports an update on September 9, 2026; that date is the listing’s update information, not an independent verification of how the app performs offline.
Which app should you choose?
Choose PlayTable for Android
PlayTable is the clearest Android starting point in the available listings if you want variety in one free app. Its Google Play description claims 22 board, card, and logic games, offline play, solo AI, and some same-device multiplayer, without ads, sign-up, or in-app purchases. Those details are publisher claims; verify that the present listing still matches what you need and that your device is compatible. See PlayTable on Google Play.

The appeal is the combination of a relatively broad advertised catalog and a simple stated cost model: the listing says the app is free and has no in-app purchases, rather than offering a small free tier with a paid unlock. It also says there are no ads and no sign-up. If those are priorities, they make PlayTable worth checking first on Android. The listing does not provide a detailed breakdown here of which particular games support AI or same-device multiplayer, so do not assume every one of the 22 titles offers every mode.
The listing reports an update on September 9, 2026. That is a freshness clue, not a guarantee about current performance, supported devices, or the behavior of a particular game with connectivity disabled. Read the live listing before you install, especially if you are relying on it for a journey without mobile data.
Choose Board Games – Classics for free iPhone play
The App Store listing describes recognizable games such as Ludo, Othello, Backgammon, Checkers, Chess, Dominoes, Nine Men’s Morris, and Sudoku, plus “more.” Its title says 11 games, so do not assume every named or implied game is available in the free version beyond what the current listing establishes. The listing says it is free, works offline, and supports playing against AI or sharing one device. See Board Games – Classics on the App Store.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →This is the most direct iPhone choice in this group if you want familiar classics without committing to a paid collection. Its combination of AI and same-device play addresses two different situations: a solo player can look for a computer opponent, while two people in the same place can take turns using one screen. The listing says the app is free and has no in-app purchases, but check the current App Store page for region and device details.
There is a small catalog-count caveat worth keeping in mind. The listing title says 11 games, while the description uses “and more” after naming examples. Rather than treating that phrase as a precise inventory or promising a particular free-game count, use the live listing to confirm the games you care about. The names that are specifically given—Ludo, Othello, Backgammon, Checkers, Chess, Dominoes, Nine Men’s Morris, and Sudoku—give a useful sense of the collection’s style, but do not establish that every title is available in every region or version.
Choose Boardalo if you may pay once for more iPhone games
Boardalo’s listing describes 37 classic games and says ten are free; a one-time purchase unlocks the other 27, with no subscription listed. It also describes fully offline play and pass-and-play or nearby play. This is a better fit if the free selection is enough to try and you value a larger collection, but check the current in-app purchase details and regional price before deciding. See Boardalo on the App Store.
The important distinction is between the 37-game catalog and the free portion: the listing does not describe all 37 as free. If you only want to try a few games, ten free titles may be sufficient; if you want the whole collection, compare the one-time unlock shown on your App Store page with your budget. The listing reviewed on October 13, 2026, did not establish an exact price, so there is no reliable amount to quote here. “No subscription” means the listing describes a one-time purchase for the remaining games, not a recurring plan; confirm the purchase terms before buying because store details can change.

Boardalo’s pass-and-play description supports taking turns on the same phone. Its mention of nearby play is a separate advertised option, not another way to describe same-device turns. If you specifically want to play without any connection, focus on the listing’s offline claim and test the relevant mode yourself; the listing does not independently confirm how nearby play behaves in airplane mode.
Consider Offline Arcade for a cross-platform alternative
Offline Arcade’s site says the app is available on iOS and Android, runs games locally, and includes Solitaire, Chess, Sudoku, and Tic Tac Toe. It describes pass-and-play for several games. The site also says users can opt to watch a short ad for rewards, so it is not the same ad-free proposition as PlayTable claims to offer. Visit Offline Arcade.
Local execution and optional rewarded ads are different considerations. The developer site says the games run locally, which is relevant if you want play without an internet connection; it also describes the option to watch an ad to earn rewards. The information reviewed does not say that watching an ad is required to play, nor does it establish the exact reward or how often ads appear. If you want a cross-platform option and optional ads are acceptable, it is worth comparing with the app-store choices. If avoiding ads altogether is a deciding factor, note the distinction rather than assuming “offline” means “ad-free.”
How these choices differ
For an Android user choosing among the listings, PlayTable is the only Android app in this comparison with a Google Play listing that describes 22 games and explicitly claims no ads, no sign-up, and no in-app purchases. Offline Arcade is also described as available on Android, but its developer site notes optional rewarded ads and gives examples of games rather than an exact catalog count in the October 13, 2026 listings reviewed. On iPhone, Board Games – Classics offers a free collection with AI and same-device play according to its listing; Boardalo offers a larger stated total, but only ten games are free.

That means there is no single “best” app for every reader. A broad free collection, a familiar named game, a no-ads policy, a one-time full-catalog unlock, and cross-platform availability are separate preferences. Start with your phone’s operating system, then compare the current free selection and modes. If you are choosing for another person, confirm the specific game they want rather than relying only on the total number of titles.
It also helps to separate the strength of a listing claim from independent verification. The figures and features in this guide come from publisher descriptions in store listings or the developer site. They are useful for narrowing the choices, but they are not hands-on test results. None of the reviewed information establishes that every app feature works in airplane mode on every supported device, or that a catalog and price will stay unchanged.
What “offline,” “free,” and “same-device” mean in practice
Offline describes connection needs, not every feature
An app listing that says “offline” is a useful signal, but it does not establish that every screen, game, or feature will work without a connection. Initial setup, updates, daily content, or an online opponent may still need connectivity. The descriptions cited here do not independently prove airplane-mode behavior for each game. If a trip or outage is the reason you are downloading, install and open the app beforehand, then test the specific game with Wi-Fi and mobile data disabled.

Think about the exact play session you need. A claim that an app includes offline games does not tell you whether an initial download, a first launch, or a particular game mode needs a connection. Likewise, “nearby play” is not the same phrase as “same-device play,” and the listing descriptions reviewed on October 13, 2026, do not establish the connection requirements for that separate feature. If your plan is a solo game against AI or a two-player pass-and-play match, test that mode—not just the app’s home screen—before you leave coverage.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Offline also does not necessarily mean that the app can never need internet for anything. You may still want a connection to download the app, install updates, or check the current listing. The practical question is whether the chosen game and mode can be started and played after connectivity is disabled. The only dependable way to answer that for your own phone and current app version is to try it.
Free can describe only part of a collection
Compare what the free label actually covers. PlayTable’s listing says there are no in-app purchases; Board Games – Classics is listed as free with no in-app purchases; Boardalo makes ten of its 37 games free and charges once to unlock the rest; Offline Arcade describes optional rewarded ads. A free download does not automatically mean every game is included or that the app has no ads.
These are meaningfully different cost arrangements. With PlayTable and Board Games – Classics, the reviewed listings describe free apps without in-app purchases. Boardalo has a free portion and a paid one-time unlock for the remaining 27 games. Offline Arcade’s site describes optional ads for rewards, but the information reviewed does not give a price for a purchase or claim it is ad-free. Because prices and terms may vary by region or change over time, check the store’s current purchase panel rather than relying on an old price or an assumption based on the word “free.”
Ads, purchases, and subscriptions are separate questions too. A rewarded ad is an ad a user chooses to watch for a reward, according to Offline Arcade’s description; it is not the same as a claim that an app has no ads. A one-time unlock is not a subscription, but it still costs money. If you want a no-cost app with no purchase prompts, compare those explicit claims in the listing before installing.
Solo AI and local play are different ways to play
For a solo session, look for built-in AI or one-player games such as Solitaire and Sudoku. For two people sharing a phone, check for explicit “same device” or “pass-and-play” support. In pass-and-play, players take turns on one screen; it does not imply online multiplayer. Nearby play, where listed, is a separate feature from taking turns on one device.
The listings reviewed describe AI for PlayTable and Board Games – Classics, and pass-and-play or same-device options for several of the apps. That does not establish that every game inside each collection supports every play style. A collection may include single-player puzzles, games against AI, and games designed for local turns; check the mode attached to the exact title you plan to play. Similarly, nearby play can involve a different setup from simply passing a phone back and forth, so do not treat the two features as interchangeable.

For a shared phone, two people do not need separate devices just because a listing mentions multiplayer. Look specifically for same-device, local, or pass-and-play wording. Before starting, agree on how to hand over the phone and whether both players can see the screen comfortably. A stand can help with viewing, but it is an optional convenience rather than a game requirement.
How to prepare an offline game before you need it
- Check the platform and listing. Open the Google Play or App Store page for the app on your own device. Confirm it is available in your region, review compatibility, and check the current catalog and purchase details. Android and iPhone listings are not interchangeable, and this comparison does not imply that each named app is available on both systems.
- Install while connected. Download the app and any updates before travel or a period without service. If the app offers downloadable content or separate game packs, check whether they need to be obtained individually. The available descriptions do not specify that separate packs are required for these apps, so this is a general item to verify rather than a claim about a particular one.
- Launch the exact game once. Open the game you intend to play, choose the mode you want, and complete any initial setup while online. This can reveal a sign-in, download, permission, or content requirement before you are disconnected. PlayTable’s listing says no sign-up is needed, but do not generalize that claim to the other apps.
- Test the real offline scenario. Turn on airplane mode, then make sure Wi-Fi remains off if your device allows it to stay enabled separately. Open the app again and start the chosen game. Try AI or pass-and-play rather than assuming all modes have the same connection requirements. This is a check of the version and phone in your hands, not a guarantee about every feature.
- Check what happens after closing the app. Force-close and reopen it while offline, if practical. A game that continues in an already-open session may behave differently after a restart. The reviewed listings do not answer this for every app, so test it if reliable access matters.
- Make sure your intended game is included. For Boardalo, check whether the game is among the ten free titles or requires the one-time unlock. For the other apps, confirm the current catalog and any mode details in the listing. A large collection count is less useful if the specific game you want is not in the free portion.
- Decide what you will do if the test fails. If the app or mode will not launch offline, you can choose another listed game, install a different app while connected, or plan to play when service is available. Do not wait until you are offline to discover that a mode needs setup or a connection.
This is a practical check, not a guarantee against future updates changing behavior. Repeat it after a major app update if offline access is important. If the app works in airplane mode today, that confirms only the tested game, mode, device, and version—not every title in the catalog or every later update.

Same-device play is documented by the Board Games – Classics and Boardalo listings, and by the PlayTable and Offline Arcade descriptions for some games. A phone stand is optional: it can make a shared screen easier to see, but the listings do not require one and no particular model is established as necessary. Before a match, check whether the game changes player turns automatically and whether the screen orientation or controls are comfortable for both players.
For a short game, simply setting the phone on a stable surface may be enough; for longer turns, a stand can keep the screen at a convenient viewing angle. This is a comfort suggestion based on the shared-screen use case, not an accessory recommendation based on product testing. You do not need to buy a stand to use pass-and-play. The essentials are that the game explicitly supports taking turns on one device and that both players can see and reach the controls.
Common pitfalls to avoid
- Equating a store’s offline label with a verified test. The claims here come from current descriptions, not independent airplane-mode checks. Test the exact title and mode on your phone.
- Assuming every game in a collection is free. Boardalo lists ten free games out of 37, with a purchase for the other 27. Check the free selection before choosing it.
- Assuming a game count tells you which games are included. Board Games – Classics has a title that says 11 games and a description that says “and more.” Verify the actual current catalog rather than interpreting that phrase as a guarantee.
- Confusing pass-and-play with online or nearby multiplayer. Pass-and-play means sharing one device and taking turns. Nearby play is separately described by Boardalo and may have different requirements.
- Assuming offline means ad-free. Offline Arcade says users can choose to watch short ads for rewards. PlayTable’s listing separately claims it is ad-free.
- Waiting until the journey to install or update. Download, open, and test while you still have connectivity, especially if you need a particular mode.
- Relying on an old price or compatibility detail. Store availability, regional prices, supported OS versions, and catalogs can change. Use the listing for your own device at the time you download or pay.

Its listing names games including Ludo, Othello, Backgammon, Checkers, Chess, Dominoes, Nine Men’s Morris, and Sudoku. Are all of Boardalo’s games free?
No. Boardalo’s App Store listing describes 37 games, with ten free and a one-time purchase to unlock the remaining 27. It says there is no subscription. Check the current in-app purchase details and regional price before buying.
Can I play these apps with someone else on one phone?
The listings describe same-device or pass-and-play options for Board Games – Classics and Boardalo, and for some games in PlayTable and Offline Arcade. Check that the specific game supports the mode you want. Pass-and-play means taking turns on one screen; nearby play is a separate feature.
Does offline mean I can play without Wi-Fi and mobile data?
The listings and developer site describe offline or local play, but they did not independently test airplane-mode behavior on every app, phone, game, or mode. Install and open the app while connected, then disable both Wi-Fi and mobile data and test the exact game—including after closing and reopening the app—before relying on it.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Are offline game apps always ad-free?
No. Offline and ad-free are separate criteria. PlayTable’s listing says it is ad-free, while Offline Arcade describes optional rewarded ads. Check the current listing for the particular app rather than inferring its ad policy from its offline claim.
Do I need a phone stand for pass-and-play?
No. A stand is optional and may make the shared screen easier to see, but the listings do not require one. The important checks are whether the game supports same-device turns and whether both players can view and use the screen comfortably.
The Bottom Line
For Android, start with PlayTable if its current listing still offers the 22-game, ad-free collection it describes. For iPhone, try Board Games – Classics for free classics, or consider Boardalo if ten free games are not enough and a one-time unlock suits you. Offline Arcade is another cross-platform option, with optional rewarded ads. Whichever you choose, check the live store listing and test your specific game and play mode without Wi-Fi or mobile data before you count on it.
