The best planned PS5 setting for Forza Horizon 6 is Performance mode when you want the quickest steering response and smoothest racing. Forza and Playground Games have confirmed that a 60FPS Performance mode will be available, but the PS5 edition is not scheduled to launch until January 26, 2027; Premium Edition early access is scheduled for January 21, 2027. Until the game ships, exact resolution, HDR, VRR, ray-tracing and PS5 Pro behavior remain unconfirmed. Set up your console and display now, then verify the final options in the released build rather than relying on pre-release guesses.

What is actually confirmed for the PS5 version

The most important confirmed detail is the existence of a 60FPS Performance mode. The official 2026 announcement says:

“A 60FPS Performance mode will also be available.”

That establishes a performance-oriented option, but it does not establish the output resolution, whether resolution scales dynamically, the exact frame-time target, or the visual effects that the mode disables.

The standard PS5 release is scheduled for January 26, 2027. Premium Edition early access is scheduled to begin January 21, 2027. Therefore, any article claiming to know the final PS5 graphics menu before those dates is describing expectations, not verified launch behavior.

Cross-platform play and cross-save with Xbox and Steam are confirmed. Your choice of PS5 graphics mode should not prevent you from playing with people on those platforms or carrying compatible progress between them.

Why there is no definitive preset yet

A graphics preset is only meaningful when the game exposes the choices and those choices can be measured on the target console. The PS5 build has not launched, and no independent PS5 benchmark is available because the console version is unreleased. That leaves several practical questions open: whether Performance mode holds a stable 60 frames per second, which effects are reduced, whether resolution changes during heavy weather or dense scenes, and whether a Quality mode trades frame rate for detail.

Those unknowns matter more than a nominal resolution number. A mode that frequently misses its frame-time target can feel less consistent than a lower-resolution mode that stays locked. Likewise, a display’s HDR clipping or an incorrect TV setting can make a technically sharper image look worse. Treat the first week after launch as verification time: inspect the actual menu, test representative races, and record what the game reports before settling on a permanent preset.

The best pre-release plan: prioritize Performance mode

Forza Horizon is a driving game, so steering, braking and camera movement benefit directly from consistent frame delivery. Once FH6 is installed on PS5, select the mode explicitly labeled Performance or 60FPS if that is the label used by the final build. This is a recommendation based on the confirmed 60FPS mode and the demands of racing, not a claim that every scene has already been tested.

Choose Performance when

  • You notice judder or input delay easily while turning, correcting a slide or timing a brake point.
  • You play competitive events, online races or time trials where repeatable control matters more than extra reflections.
  • Your television or monitor supports 120Hz or VRR and you want to test whether the game can use those capabilities.
  • You sit close enough to the screen that motion clarity is more noticeable than small differences in foliage or reflections.

Consider another mode only after launch evidence

If the released game offers a Quality mode, compare it in the same location and weather as Performance mode. A Quality option may improve effects or resolution, but Forza’s 2026 announcement does not state its frame-rate target or image-quality trade-offs. Select it only if the resulting motion feels acceptable to you and the visual improvement is obvious on your display.

Prepare PS5 video output before the game arrives

These console settings do not prove that FH6 will support every feature. They simply allow the PS5 to negotiate the best signal if the game and display support it.

  1. Open Settings on the PS5 home screen.
  2. Choose Screen and Video, then open Video Output.
  3. Leave Resolution on Automatic unless your display requires a fixed format. Automatic lets the console select a supported output instead of forcing an unverified resolution.
  4. Set 120 Hz Output to Automatic if your television or monitor has a 120Hz input. This does not make FH6 run at 120FPS; it only permits 120Hz output when a game supports it.
  5. Set VRR to Automatic if your display supports HDMI 2.1 VRR. Keep Apply to Unsupported Games off initially. Turn it on later only if you understand how your display handles unsupported VRR and the result is stable.
  6. Set HDR to On When Supported. This prevents SDR games and menus from being forced into an HDR signal that can look washed out.
  7. Select Adjust HDR and complete all three screens in your normal room lighting. Follow the on-screen instruction about making the symbol barely visible; do not copy another television’s values.
  8. Check Information for the Connected HDMI Device to confirm the actual resolution, HDR and VRR capabilities negotiated by the console.

If your display has separate HDMI ports, use the port marked for 4K, 120Hz, HDMI 2.1 or enhanced format, and enable that port’s enhanced-input setting in the television menu. The names differ by manufacturer, so use the label shown by your screen rather than assuming every port has identical bandwidth.

HDR: a safe baseline and a launch-day check

HDR behavior for FH6 is not confirmed. The game may include its own brightness, paper-white or peak-luminance controls, or it may rely mostly on the PS5 system calibration. When the game launches, look for a display or HDR section before changing television picture modes.

Use the display’s accurate picture mode

Choose the television mode intended for accurate HDR or game playback, then disable aggressive “dynamic contrast,” artificial sharpness and motion interpolation. Those processing features can alter brightness or add latency, making it difficult to judge the game’s image. Leave the TV’s local-dimming control at the manufacturer’s normal game recommendation unless bright highlights visibly bloom or crush shadow detail.

Calibrate in the order the signals travel

  1. Complete PS5 Adjust HDR first.
  2. Launch FH6 and apply its own HDR calibration, if present.
  3. Drive through a bright scene with clouds, sunlight or reflective bodywork and a dark scene with trees or tunnels.
  4. Reduce the game’s paper-white or exposure control if menus and road markings look painfully bright; raise it only when mid-tone details are genuinely too dim.
  5. Recheck night driving after every change. A setting that makes daytime highlights impressive can hide braking markers and scenery at night.

Do not interpret a brighter picture as better HDR. Correct tone mapping preserves detail in both the brightest reflections and the darkest road surfaces.

VRR and 120Hz: useful options, not confirmed FH6 features

A 60FPS mode can benefit from a display that refreshes at 120Hz, but the official announcement does not confirm 120Hz output or VRR support for FH6 on PS5. A 120Hz panel can still be useful because it gives the console a suitable refresh mode; it cannot create extra game frames.

When to enable VRR

Enable VRR at the PS5 system level only when your display supports it. After launch, compare a busy race start, rain, off-road dust and a populated festival area with VRR on and off. Look for reduced tearing and steadier motion, but also watch for flicker in dark scenes, brightness changes or a display message showing that VRR has disengaged.

If VRR introduces flicker, disable it and keep Performance mode. If the game exposes a VRR toggle, use the game’s guidance rather than forcing an unsupported mode through the console. The final VRR range and any low-frame-rate compensation behavior are not stated before release.

How to compare Performance and Quality at launch

Do not decide from the first menu screen. Use a repeatable route and change one setting at a time. The following procedure is designed to reveal the trade-off without pretending to be a laboratory benchmark.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  1. Restart the game after changing modes so any cached streaming or shader work is comparable.
  2. Drive the same route in clear daytime weather, then repeat it in rain or another demanding condition available in the game.
  3. Make several rapid steering corrections, brake from high speed and rotate the camera while passing dense scenery. These actions expose frame-time inconsistency more readily than a stationary screenshot.
  4. Inspect distant signs, fences, foliage and reflective car paint for changes in detail. Note whether the image becomes softer during movement, which can indicate dynamic scaling.
  5. Look at mirrors, reflections and shadows. Record whether ray-traced or higher-quality effects are listed in the mode description; do not infer the rendering method solely from appearance.
  6. Repeat the test with VRR enabled and disabled if your display supports it.
  7. Choose the mode that gives you the better combination of stable motion, readable detail and acceptable brightness. There is no universal winner if the two modes target different priorities.

Record these values instead of guessing

Measurement What to note from the released build Why it matters
Frame-rate target The exact target written in the game menu or official notes A stated target is more reliable than assuming a mode name guarantees a lock.
Frame-time stability Whether motion remains even during weather, traffic and collisions Uneven delivery can feel like stutter even when an on-screen counter shows a high average.
Output resolution Reported output and any dynamic-resolution behavior Dynamic scaling may trade sharpness for stability in complex scenes.
Reflections and lighting Which effects change between modes This identifies the visual cost of Performance mode without inventing a ray-tracing specification.
HDR behavior Available sliders, peak-brightness guidance and clipping Incorrect tone mapping can outweigh a small resolution difference.
VRR behavior Whether VRR engages, flickers or remains stable Compatibility varies by television and the game’s implementation.
Input response Subjective steering and braking delay in identical conditions Racing control is the reason many players prefer Performance mode.

PS5 Pro: what to check instead of assuming an enhancement

No PS5 Pro graphics mode, resolution increase or ray-tracing feature has been confirmed in Forza’s official materials from 2026. If you own a PS5 Pro, install the same launch build as other PS5 players and look for an explicit Pro label, a separate graphics menu or a system notification. Compare the available choices only after checking that the display is using its intended input format.

Do not select a hypothetical “Pro Quality” setting because a television advertises 4K or 120Hz. Those are display capabilities, not proof that the game renders at that resolution or refresh rate. If the game offers a Pro-enhanced mode, document its stated target and test it with the same route used for the standard PS5 comparison.

Troubleshooting common picture and performance problems

The picture looks washed out in HDR

  • Verify that PS5 HDR is set to On When Supported, not forced on for all content.
  • Run Adjust HDR again and make sure the television is in its HDR game or accurate HDR mode.
  • Disable duplicate tone mapping. If both the TV and game offer an HDR mapping control, follow the game’s instructions and avoid stacking “dynamic” enhancements.

Motion feels uneven despite selecting Performance

  • Test with VRR disabled, then enabled, because an incompatible VRR range can cause flicker or uneven presentation.
  • Check whether the game is compiling shaders or streaming assets after a fresh installation; repeat the test after returning to the same route.
  • Confirm that the television’s motion interpolation is off. Interpolation can create artifacts and does not improve the game’s actual frame rate.
  • Look for a patch note or in-game performance indicator. The confirmed existence of a 60FPS mode does not guarantee that every scene is permanently locked to 60FPS.

The image is softer than expected

  • Check the PS5’s negotiated signal under Settings, Screen and Video, and Video Output.
  • Verify that the TV input is using its enhanced 4K or high-bandwidth setting.
  • Compare the same scene in any available Quality mode. Dynamic resolution may soften motion in Performance mode by design.
  • Do not force a manual resolution until you know which output the game and display support together.

VRR causes flicker or brightness changes

  • Turn off Apply to Unsupported Games first.
  • Test the game’s own VRR option, if one exists, instead of forcing VRR at the system level.
  • If flicker remains, disable VRR and retain Performance mode; stable 60FPS presentation is preferable to a distracting display fault.

Cross-play and cross-save considerations

Forza has confirmed cross-platform play and cross-save with Xbox and Steam. That means your PS5 settings are a local presentation choice: choosing Performance mode does not change the cross-platform feature itself. Keep your platform accounts linked as required by the game, and allow the initial synchronization to finish before switching devices. If progress appears missing, check that you are using the same account identity and that the game has completed its cloud-save process; do not delete local data while a sync is unresolved.

A practical launch-day checklist

  1. Install the launch build or Premium Edition early-access build when it becomes available.
  2. Open the graphics menu and write down every mode, target and feature the game actually lists.
  3. Start with Performance or 60FPS mode.
  4. Confirm PS5 output under Settings → Screen and Video → Video Output.
  5. Calibrate PS5 HDR, then complete the game’s HDR setup if offered.
  6. Test VRR on your own display rather than assuming compatibility.
  7. Compare a fixed route in clear and demanding weather before trying Quality mode.
  8. Check for day-one patches and re-test after installing them, because performance options can change with updates.
  9. Save your preferred mode only after checking night driving, online racing and a dense event start.

Bottom line for PS5 owners

There is one defensible recommendation before release: plan to use the confirmed 60FPS Performance mode, prepare the PS5’s 120Hz, VRR and HDR output options conservatively, and wait for the live build before making claims about resolution, ray tracing, Quality mode or PS5 Pro enhancements. The standard PS5 launch is scheduled for January 26, 2027, with Premium Edition early access on January 21, 2027. Once the game is available, choose the mode that delivers the steadiest frame pacing and clearest controls on your own display, then treat resolution and visual effects as the trade-offs they actually prove to be.
