For a Fortnite event featuring Yeat, start with a stereo gaming headset, set Sound Effects to 100%, and set Music to about 20–35%. That music range is a practical starting point rather than an Epic-published universal optimum. Keep the other channels low enough that they do not cover footsteps, leave enough overall volume for comfortable listening, and test Fortnite’s 3D audio on and off on your own platform. Turn on Visualize Sound Effects if music, room noise, or hearing difficulty makes directional cues unreliable.
This setup lets the event track remain audible while preserving the clearest possible footstep cues. Fortnite’s live event schedule, song list, and regional availability can change, so confirm the Yeat event in the current in-game event tile or Epic announcement.
Recommended Fortnite mix at a glance
| Setting | Starting value or mode | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Output device | Stereo gaming headset | Epic says headphone-based 3D audio may help pinpoint enemy direction. |
| Sound Effects | 100% | Preserves the strongest available level for footsteps and other gameplay cues. |
| Music | 20–35% | Keeps Yeat’s event music audible while leaving headroom for footsteps; this is a practical starting range, not a universal Epic recommendation. |
| Dialogue | Lower only if it masks footsteps or music | Prevents character lines from competing with the mix. |
| Ambience | Lower only if it competes with important cues | Reduces environmental wash when it becomes distracting. |
| Voice Chat | Lower only when squad communication masks cues | Maintains useful team communication without sacrificing awareness. |
| 3D audio | Test on and off; keep the clearer mode | Spatial processing varies by platform and headset. |
| Visualize Sound Effects | On when audio is masked or accessibility requires it | Adds visual directional information as a backup. |
| Licensed Audio | Play when you want licensed music | It does not control the mix of a concert or restore a missing event track. |
There is no authoritative Epic percentage study that identifies one perfect music-to-footsteps ratio, and there is no reliable universal decibel target or footstep-distance number. Treat the values above as a repeatable starting configuration, then adjust in a quiet practice situation.
Why the balance matters during a Yeat event
Event music is intentionally prominent, while enemy footsteps are short, directional sounds. If the music is too loud, a footstep can be covered at the exact moment you need to decide whether to turn, build, or disengage. If you set music too low, you may hear opponents clearly but lose the event’s main attraction.

- TRIFORCE TITANIUM 50 MM DRIVERS — Our cutting-edge proprietary design divides the driver into 3 parts for the individual tuning of highs, mids, and lows—producing brighter, clearer audio with richer highs and more powerful lows
- HYPERCLEAR CARDIOID MIC — An improved pickup pattern ensures more voice and less noise as it tapers off towards the mic’s back and sides, with the sweet spot easily placed at the mouth because of the mic’s bendable design
- ADVANCED PASSIVE NOISE CANCELLATION — Sturdy closed earcups fully cover the ears to prevent noise from leaking into the headset, with its cushions providing a closer seal for more sound isolation
- LIGHTWEIGHT DESIGN WITH MEMORY FOAM EAR CUSHIONS — At just 240 g, the headset features thicker headband padding and memory foam ear cushions with leatherette to keep gaming in peak form during grueling tournaments and training sessions
- WORKS WITH WINDOWS SONIC — Make the most of the headset’s powerful drivers by pairing it with lifelike surround sound that places audio with pinpoint accuracy, heightening in-game awareness and immersion
The useful goal is not to make every sound equally loud. It is to keep Sound Effects dominant, make Music clearly audible, and reduce only the channels that interfere. A comfortable overall level also matters: raising a headset to an uncomfortable volume does not create better separation and can make fatigue arrive sooner.
Set up the audio step by step
1. Use a stereo headset and check the physical connection
Connect a stereo gaming headset directly to the platform or controller and confirm that the left and right channels are working. A loose plug, a muted console output, or a headset that is also mixing another application can make any Fortnite slider adjustment misleading. If you must use television speakers, follow the speaker-specific guidance below; headphones provide the directional-audio path Epic documents.
2. Open Fortnite’s Audio settings
- Open the Fortnite profile menu.
- Choose Settings.
- Open the Audio tab.
- Make the changes below, then apply or save them if your platform presents an apply control.
3. Put Sound Effects at 100%
Set Sound Effects to 100%. This gives footsteps, weapon sounds, building sounds, and other gameplay effects the most level available from that channel. It does not guarantee that every footstep will be audible: distance, walls, surface type, other effects, and the event mix still affect what reaches you.

4. Start Music at 20–35%
Set Music between 20% and 35% for the first test. Use the lower end when competitive awareness is the priority; use the upper end when the Yeat performance is difficult to hear. This range is a practical balancing method, not an Epic-certified setting. Adjust in small increments rather than making a large jump that changes several variables at once.
5. Reduce competing channels only when necessary
Dialogue, Ambience, and Voice Chat do not need to be reduced automatically. Lower one of them only after you identify it as the sound covering footsteps or the event track. For example, reduce Voice Chat if a teammate’s open microphone consistently masks a cue, or reduce Ambience if environmental sound creates a continuous layer over short footsteps. Keeping unaffected channels higher preserves the character and information of the game’s mix.
6. Set the device volume after the in-game mix
Once the Fortnite sliders are balanced, adjust the console, PC, television, or headset volume to a comfortable listening level. Device volume changes the loudness of everything together; it cannot replace the internal Music-versus-Sound Effects adjustment. An inline volume controller is useful for quick overall changes, but it does not independently change Fortnite’s channels.

Choose and test 3D audio intelligently
Epic’s support guidance says that, when using headphones, Fortnite’s 3D audio features may assist players in pinpointing the direction of enemies. The feature is therefore worth testing, but it is not guaranteed to sound better on every platform, headset, or user profile. Spatial processing can alter the apparent position, width, or tone of a footstep.

- Go to a quiet practice situation with your stereo headset connected.
- Listen for a teammate, replayed sound, or another predictable source moving from left to right and from in front to behind you.
- Enable the available 3D or headphone-spatial option and repeat the same movement.
- Disable it and repeat again, keeping your headset and device volume unchanged.
- Keep the mode that gives you the clearest left/right and front/back localization, not the mode that merely sounds louder or more dramatic.
If the effect produces hollow voices, an echo, or confusing front/back placement, turn it off. If it makes movement easier to place without masking detail, leave it on. Recheck after changing headsets or platform audio processing, because the result can change with the hardware.
Turn on Visualize Sound Effects when audio is not enough
Fortnite includes a visual radial indicator that can act as a second channel for directional information. Epic’s procedure is to select Audio and turn Visualize Sound Effects on. In the game, the complete path is profile menu → Settings → Audio → Visualize Sound Effects → On, followed by applying the setting if prompted.
Visual indicators are particularly useful when the Yeat track masks a quiet cue, when your room is noisy, or when hearing conditions make directional audio difficult. They can also help you learn whether a sound is arriving from the left, right, front, or rear while you are evaluating 3D audio.
Use the display only if it improves decisions. Some players find the radial indicators visually distracting during a performance or a fight. If that happens, turn them off after you have a reliable audio mix. Re-enable them when you need a redundant cue rather than treating them as a permanent requirement.

| Setup | Strengths | Limitations | Best adjustment |
|---|---|---|---|
| Stereo gaming headset | Direct left/right presentation and the headphone path for Fortnite’s 3D audio assistance. | Spatial processing may sound different across headsets; high volume can cause fatigue. | Test 3D audio on and off, then use the clearer mode. |
| Television or room speakers | Comfortable for casual viewing and shared spaces. | Room reflections, speaker placement, and background noise can make front/back localization harder. | Keep Sound Effects at 100%, use a conservative Music setting, and rely on Visualize Sound Effects if direction is unclear. |
Speakers are not automatically unusable, but they make the listening environment part of the problem. A television across the room, a soundbar, or speakers near a wall can create reflections that blur a short footstep. If you switch from speakers to a headset for the event, repeat the 3D audio test instead of assuming the previous mode remains optimal.

Use different mixes for different moments
During the main Yeat performance
Begin at Music 30–35% if hearing the track is your priority, while retaining Sound Effects at 100%. Keep Visualize Sound Effects on if the performance or crowd audio makes footsteps hard to recognize. If a fight begins, lower Music toward 20% rather than raising the master volume; this preserves the relative advantage of gameplay effects.
When you are actively playing for a win
Use Music near the lower end of the range, or lower it further if you still cannot identify footsteps consistently. Leave Sound Effects at 100% and remove only the dialogue, ambience, or chat sources you can identify as masking cues. You can restore the event level after the engagement.
When you are watching with friends
Voice Chat may need to remain high enough for conversation, but open microphones can cover quiet effects. Ask teammates to use push-to-talk or lower their individual chat level if your platform supports it before reducing every other channel. This preserves both communication and the event music.
Licensed Audio does not control concert playback
Epic says you can disable licensed audio by adjusting Fortnite’s audio settings, but explicitly qualifies that the setting does not apply to event playlists featuring licensed content, such as concerts. Leave Licensed Audio set to Play when you want to hear licensed music.
This setting is not a repair switch for a missing Yeat track. If the event music does not play, changing Licensed Audio may have no effect because the concert playlist is handled separately. Check that the event is active for your account and region, confirm that Music is not muted, restart the game if the playlist failed to load, and verify the current event information in Fortnite’s live event tile or an Epic announcement.

The audio guidance above applies to a Fortnite event with Yeat music, but the available Epic guidance does not establish a current event schedule, a definitive track list, or universal regional availability. Those details are volatile. Use the live in-game event tile and current Epic communications to confirm the start time, playlist, and whether your region is included.

- Be Heard Loud and Clear. The big 6 mm boom mic makes sure you’re heard by gaming partners and mutes when flipped up.
- Use One Headset For Most Game Platforms. Your headphones work with your PC or Mac via USB DAC or 3.5 mm cable, mobile devices with 3.5 mm cable or with gaming consoles including PlayStationⓇ 5 and PlayStationⓇ 4 (USB wireless stereo sound only), Nintendo Switch (wireless stereo sound when docked)
- Game for Hours in Comfort. Everything about these headphones is about comfort: The deluxe lightweight leatherette ear cups and headband are made to keep pressure off your ears. Ear cups rotate up to 90 degrees for convenience.
Do not infer that a missing song means your headset or settings are wrong. A track can be unavailable because the event playlist is not currently active, because availability differs by region, or because the event has ended. Audio sliders can balance a track that is playing; they cannot make an unavailable playlist appear.
If you mean Fortnite Festival instead
Fortnite Festival is a music-based rhythm experience in Fortnite that combines licensed songs with Fortnite tracks. Its timing requirements differ from a Battle Royale footstep mix. Use Festival’s Tune-up settings to calibrate audio and video latency so notes line up with the music.
Tune-up is for synchronization, not for deciding how loudly Battle Royale footsteps should sit under an event track. After calibrating Festival, use the relevant mode’s audio controls and retest if you switch back to Battle Royale. A mix that feels comfortable for a rhythm chart may not provide enough footstep contrast in a fight.
Troubleshoot the most common problems
The music is too quiet even at Music 35%
- Confirm that Music is not muted in Fortnite and that the device is outputting to the headset or intended speakers.
- Check the event tile: the playlist may not be active for your region or at the current time.
- Verify Licensed Audio is set to Play, while remembering that this setting does not govern concert playlist availability.
- Raise the device volume only after confirming the in-game mix, and keep it comfortable.
Footsteps disappear during the performance
- Lower Music in small steps toward 20% or below until you can identify repeated footstep cues.
- Lower Dialogue, Ambience, or Voice Chat only if you can identify that channel as the masker.
- Turn on Visualize Sound Effects for a redundant directional cue.
- Compare 3D audio on and off in a quiet practice situation and keep the clearer mode.
3D audio makes direction less clear
Disable the spatial mode and repeat the same left/right and front/back test. A mode that sounds wider is not necessarily more accurate. Keep the configuration that lets you place an approaching enemy reliably.
The visual indicators are distracting
Turn Visualize Sound Effects off after you have a stable audio setup. It is a backup, not a requirement. Re-enable it when music, room noise, or hearing conditions make audio-only play unreliable.

Everything sounds distorted or painfully loud
Reduce the device or headset volume immediately, then rebuild the mix from Sound Effects 100% and Music 20–35%. Do not compensate for a muddy or distorted signal by increasing volume. Check for duplicate spatial processing in the platform and headset software if the sound remains unnatural.
A repeatable pre-event checklist
- Connect and test a stereo gaming headset, if available.
- Open profile menu → Settings → Audio.
- Set Sound Effects to 100%.
- Set Music to 20–35%, choosing the lower end for competitive play.
- Reduce Dialogue, Ambience, or Voice Chat only when one is masking a cue.
- Test 3D audio on and off and keep the clearer directional result.
- Turn Visualize Sound Effects on if you need visual backup.
- Set the device volume to a comfortable level.
- Confirm the live event tile shows the Yeat event and that the playlist is available.
- Recheck the mix after the event begins, because a live playlist can sound different from ordinary matches.
How to choose your final setting
Keep the configuration when you can hear the event track clearly, identify a repeated footstep without waiting for the visual indicator, and locate movement consistently from both sides. If any one of those tests fails, change one control at a time: Music first, then the specifically competing channel, then 3D audio, and finally the visual cue. This order makes it clear which change helped and avoids chasing a different problem with the master volume.
The practical priority is straightforward: Sound Effects remain dominant, Music is present but adjustable, spatial processing is judged by localization rather than novelty, and visual indicators are available when hearing alone is insufficient.
