The best font for a blog depends on where it appears, how much readers need to read, and how it looks in your actual layout. There is no universal winner: treat fonts such as Roboto, EB Garamond, and Montserrat as candidates to test, not guaranteed improvements. Choose body text for sustained reading, give headings room for more personality, and check that the result stays clear at phone and desktop sizes.
How to choose fonts for a blog
Start with the job each font needs to do. Body copy, subheads, labels, and large display headlines have different constraints. A face with intricate details may work in a short, large headline but become hard to read in a long paragraph or small label. Google Design’s guide to choosing a web font treats size and reading context as central to selection; its examples are useful starting points, not a ranking.
- Body text: Prioritize clear letterforms and comfortable reading across paragraphs.
- Headings and subheads: Use a distinct style to create hierarchy, but check that it remains legible at its actual size.
- Display text: Decorative faces can suit short, large headlines. Avoid relying on their fine details in small text.
A distinctive heading font paired with a quieter body font can give a blog character without making every paragraph compete for attention. That is a design approach to test, not a proven best pairing.

Google Design names several examples by role. These suggestions are heuristics: the guide does not establish that every serif beats every sans serif, or that any listed font will work best in every theme, size, or language.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
| Use | Examples to test | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Relatively small text | Roboto, Montserrat, Raleway | Check clarity at the smallest size readers will encounter, including captions or compact labels. |
| Longer passages | EB Garamond, Libre Baskerville; Humanist sans-serif faces are another option | Read a full sample paragraph at your site’s real column width and text size. Familiarity and context matter. |
| Subheads and medium-size text | Montserrat, Lato, Quattrocento Sans | Test moderate weights for quick scanning; very heavy or very light weights may be less clear at a glance. |
| Large display text | A decorative face that fits the blog’s voice | Keep it to short text and review the result on smaller screens, where the details may lose clarity. |
For body copy, type designer Octavio Pardo advises: “For a paragraph, which needs to be highly legible, you shouldn’t use something with ambiguous shapes.” He suggests checking “the shapes of the ‘a’, ‘g’ and the numerals.” Risky choices may reveal themselves in those glyphs, which “should be daring but also legible.” These are practical inspection cues, not a guarantee that a font is accessible.
Test readability in your actual design
A font preview or specimen sheet cannot show exactly how a typeface will behave in your blog’s layout. Put candidate fonts into a representative post, then inspect them at the widths and sizes readers will see.

- Use realistic text. Include several paragraphs, headings, numbers, punctuation, and any words or character sets common on your site.
- Inspect easily confused characters. Compare uppercase I, lowercase l, and numeral 1, as well as a, g, and potentially confusing letter pairs. Check spacing between letters, especially pairs such as r/n.
- Check more than one size. Review body text, subheads, and compact interface labels at their actual sizes, not just in a large preview.
- Preview phone and desktop layouts. Narrow columns and smaller screens can change line breaks and make decorative details less distinct.
- Compare the whole page. Make sure the heading style creates hierarchy without distracting from paragraphs, and that the page remains easy to scan.
web.dev’s typography guidance recommends checking character distinctiveness and kerning, using common fonts where possible, and avoiding elaborate or handwritten faces and single-case designs when they interfere with readability.

No typeface by itself makes a blog accessible. Section508.gov explains that neither WCAG nor Section 508 specifies a typeface or a minimum font size for web content. A reader’s ability to zoom and the contrast between text and its background also matter. Do not label a font “WCAG compliant” simply because it looks clear.

- Let text resize: Use relative font sizing rather than locking readers into a fixed presentation.
- Use readable spacing and structure: Make paragraphs and headings easy to follow, and keep content organized in a meaningful heading hierarchy.
- Use styling with restraint: All caps, italics, bold, or other variations can impede readability if overused or applied in the wrong places.
- Check contrast separately: A legible font cannot compensate for text that lacks sufficient contrast with its background.
- Avoid justified paragraphs for the cited criterion: W3C’s guidance for WCAG 2.1 Success Criterion 1.4.8 identifies justified text as a failure technique. This is guidance for that criterion, not a blanket claim about every WCAG requirement or every layout.
The W3C’s visual-presentation guidance also notes that additional line spacing can help some readers track text. Consider the layout as well as the typeface when evaluating readability.

Web fonts are widely used: W3C, relaying the HTTP Archive’s 2025 Web Almanac estimate, reports that roughly 88% of websites used them in 2025, compared with roughly 87% in 2024. W3C also reports that WOFF 2 reached Recommendation status in August 2024. Those adoption and standards facts do not determine which font suits a particular blog; the rendered result does.

A practical shortlist decision
Choose the font that best balances your blog’s voice with the demands of its actual reading experience. Shortlist a small number of candidates by role, put them into representative content, and compare clarity, hierarchy, and layout at real sizes. Keep the choice that works across devices and remains readable when the page is zoomed or a fallback font is used.
