Short answer: Choose TEKKEN 8 if you want to move from traditional 2D-style combat to a 3D fighter; choose Guilty Gear -Strive- for a distinctive 2.5D system; Granblue Fantasy Versus: Rising for fighting mixed with story and party modes; Mortal Kombat 1 for cinematic solo play and Kameo assists; or FATAL FURY: City of the Wolves for REV mechanics, two control schemes and an RPG-style campaign. The right choice depends on which part of Street Fighter 6 you want to keep and which part you want to change.
Start with what you like about Street Fighter 6
A useful recommendation starts with your reason for playing Street Fighter 6, not with a universal ranking. Capcom’s official manual divides the game into three main areas:
- Fighting Ground: the traditional match-focused fighting-game experience.
- World Tour: a single-player journey built around progression and exploration.
- Battle Hub: an online social space for meeting other players and playing matches.
Those modes create three different expectations. You might be looking for another fighter with familiar competitive structure, a game that provides a substantial solo activity between matches, or a place to interact with other players. The alternatives below emphasize different combinations of those priorities. None is a direct replacement for every part of Street Fighter 6, and the available platform, edition, downloadable content and online services can vary by region and storefront.

TEKKEN 8: the clearest move to a 3D fighter
Why it feels different
TEKKEN 8 is the appropriate pick when the thing you want to change is the combat format itself. Rather than staying with the traditional 2D-style structure represented by Street Fighter 6‘s Fighting Ground, you move into a 3D fighting game. That affects how you think about space, movement and attacks, so it should be treated as a new discipline rather than as a substitute with different characters.
Where to practice and play with others
Bandai Namco’s official information highlights the TEKKEN Fight Lounge, a shared online area designed for player interaction and matches. The game also lets you fight other players’ ghost data. A ghost is a recorded representation of another player’s behavior, giving you a way to practice against a particular style without requiring that person to be online at the same time.
Local multiplayer supports one or two players. If you regularly play on the same system with another person, confirm the supported local mode and controller setup for your platform before purchase.
Who should choose it
- Choose it if learning a 3D fighter is part of the appeal.
- Choose it if an online place to meet players and practice against ghost data matters.
- Do not choose it solely because you want another game that operates like Street Fighter 6; its combat format is the largest change in this list.
Guilty Gear -Strive-: a 2.5D fighter with a distinctive resource system
Presentation and series context
Arc System Works describes Guilty Gear -Strive- as the latest entry in a long-running series and identifies it as a 2.5D fighter. That places it between the traditional 2D-style viewpoint and a fully 3D combat format. The visual presentation is different from Street Fighter 6, but the more important distinction is that it has its own game-specific rules and resource priorities.
The Tension Gauge
The official battle-systems material identifies the Tension Gauge as a key resource for universal mechanics. You therefore need to learn when to build, preserve and spend that resource as part of the game’s broader decision-making. This is not evidence that the gauge works like a Street Fighter 6 meter; it is a reason to expect a separate learning path.

Note: This device is not compatible with Linux.

Who should choose it
Pick Guilty Gear -Strive- if you want a fighter with a strong visual identity and a central system that is not simply a renamed version of Street Fighter 6‘s mechanics. It is especially suitable when discovering a different battle system is more important than reproducing the exact feel of your current game. The cited official material does not establish a specific solo campaign or online feature set, so check the current edition listing if those modes determine your purchase.
Granblue Fantasy Versus: Rising: a package built around several ways to play
Modes beyond standard matches
Cygames lists Granblue Fantasy Versus: Rising under both fighting and party genres. Its official features describe Story, Arcade and Training modes, giving you ways to learn, play through structured content and practice outside standard competitive matches. The game also includes a large online lobby and the party-game mode Grand Bruise Legends.
Recommended Free Tools
The Free Edition qualification
The official features page warns that a listed feature is not available in the Free Edition. Because the page does not make every edition boundary interchangeable, check the exact feature list for the edition sold on your platform. Do not assume that seeing a mode described on the game’s general features page means it is included in the Free Edition.
Platforms and buying checks
Cygames lists PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4 and Steam on its official site. Platform support and edition availability can change by region and over time, so verify the current store listing before buying. Confirm whether the mode you want is part of the edition you are considering, especially if your main reason for choosing the game is Story, Grand Bruise Legends or the online lobby.
Who should choose it
This is the strongest fit when you want to alternate between fighting matches and other activities in the same game. It preserves a fighting-game core while adding story, arcade, training and party options rather than asking you to commit exclusively to ranked or casual matches.

Mortal Kombat 1: cinematic story content and Kameo assists
How Kameo Fighters work
The official FAQ describes Kameo Fighters as assist characters selected separately from the main roster. You choose a main fighter and a Kameo Fighter, then use the partner’s assist actions during matches. This creates a team-building decision that is structurally different from selecting a single character in a traditional one-on-one format.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsStory and progression
Mortal Kombat 1 includes a single-player Story mode and the Invasions progression mode. The Story mode is the reason to choose this game if a cinematic solo campaign is more important to you than reproducing the exact competitive structure of Street Fighter 6. Invasions adds a separate progression-focused activity for players who want a reason to continue playing outside standard matches.
Edition and expansion checks
The official FAQ lists expansions, downloadable content and a Definitive Edition Upgrade. The contents are not identical across every offer, so compare the actual edition on your platform rather than relying on a generic game title. Prices are not included here because storefront pricing changes and was not established for a particular country, platform or date.
Who should choose it
- Choose it if a substantial, cinematic solo experience is a primary requirement.
- Choose it if you want an assist partner selected separately from your main character.
- Check the edition carefully if you expect expansions or downloadable characters to be included.
FATAL FURY: City of the Wolves: REV mechanics, flexible controls and RPG-style progression
REV system
SNK positions the REV system as a defining part of FATAL FURY: City of the Wolves. It gives the game a distinct risk-and-reward layer to learn alongside its basic attacks, defense and movement. The official description calls the game accessible while also emphasizing strategic depth; that is promotional language from SNK, not an independent assessment of difficulty or quality.
Arcade Style and Smart Style
SNK’s 2024 announcement states: “Choose from two control schemes: Arcade Style is based on precise, technical inputs, while Smart Style lets you perform flashy special moves and combos using directional inputs and single button presses.” Arcade Style is therefore the option for players who want conventional technical input practice. Smart Style reduces the input complexity for listed special moves and combos. These are in-game control schemes; they do not establish that an additional fight stick or other controller is required.

- Please Note: To reach 10Gbps speed, keep the cable under 3.3 ft. For USB A Male to USB C adapters, try flipping the USB C connector. USB C Male to USB A adapters support bidirectional 10Gbps transfer within 3.3 ft
Episodes of South Town
The single-player mode Episodes of South Town is described as an RPG-style experience. It is the clearest match here for someone who likes having a progression-oriented activity alongside regular fights, while still wanting a game built around a distinct fighting system.
Training and online features
The official game-modes page lists training, tutorial, ranked matches, casual matches and room matches. It also lists rollback netcode, cross-platform play, replays and AI-generated clones. These features cover several different needs: tutorials and training for learning, ranked and casual queues for matchmaking, rooms for organized sessions, replays for review and clones for practicing against recorded or generated behavior.
Demo and Nintendo Switch 2 timing
In an announcement dated September 30, 2026, SNK described a demo with six characters and Arcade, Classic Versus, Training, Tutorial, Trial and Color Edit modes. The same announcement said a Nintendo Switch 2 version was scheduled for late October 2026. Both the demo’s availability and that release schedule are date-sensitive; verify them on SNK’s current channels before relying on either detail.
Who should choose it
Choose this game if you want a fighter with its own risk-and-reward system, a choice between technical and simplified control schemes, and an RPG-style single-player mode. Its documented cross-platform and replay features also make it a strong candidate when those online tools matter, subject to current service availability.

Choose by the experience you want to preserve
If Fighting Ground is your priority
Start with the game whose combat format you are willing to learn. TEKKEN 8 makes the largest structural change by moving to 3D. Guilty Gear -Strive-, Granblue Fantasy Versus: Rising, Mortal Kombat 1 and FATAL FURY: City of the Wolves stay closer to a 2D or 2.5D presentation but still use their own systems. Choose based on whether you want a new spatial format, a resource gauge, party and story modes, Kameo assists or the REV system.
Best Value
- 5-in-1 Connectivity: Equipped with a 4K HDMI port, a 5 Gbps USB-C data port, two 5 Gbps USB-A ports, and a USB C 100W PD-IN port. Note: The USB C 100W PD-IN port supports only charging and does not support data transfer devices such as headphones or speakers.
- Powerful Pass-Through Charging: Supports up to 85W pass-through charging so you can power up your laptop while you use the hub. Note: Pass-through charging requires a charger (not included). Note: To achieve full power for iPad, we recommend using a 45W wall charger.
- Transfer Files in Seconds: Move files to and from your laptop at speeds of up to 5 Gbps via the USB-C and USB-A data ports. Note: The USB C 5Gbps Data port does not support video output.
- HD Display: Connect to the HDMI port to stream or mirror content to an external monitor in resolutions of up to 4K@30Hz. Note: The USB-C ports do not support video output.
- What You Get: Anker 332 USB-C Hub (5-in-1), welcome guide, our worry-free 18-month warranty, and friendly customer service.
If World Tour is what keeps you playing
Look for explicit progression content rather than assuming every fighting game has an equivalent. Mortal Kombat 1 offers Story and Invasions; Granblue Fantasy Versus: Rising lists Story and Arcade; and FATAL FURY: City of the Wolves offers Episodes of South Town. The cited official material does not establish a directly equivalent campaign for TEKKEN 8 or Guilty Gear -Strive-.
If Battle Hub is the attraction
TEKKEN 8 is the closest documented match for a named social meeting space through its TEKKEN Fight Lounge. Granblue Fantasy Versus: Rising lists a large online lobby, while FATAL FURY: City of the Wolves lists rooms, cross-platform play and replays. These are different implementations, so decide whether you need a social lobby, organized rooms, cross-platform matchmaking or tools for reviewing play.
If accessible controls matter
FATAL FURY: City of the Wolves explicitly offers Arcade Style and Smart Style. Smart Style is the documented option for performing listed special moves and combos with directional inputs and single-button presses. That does not prove that every move is simplified or that the scheme is preferable for every player; try the demo or current tutorial where available.

- Identify your platform. Confirm that the game supports your console or PC storefront in your region. For Granblue Fantasy Versus: Rising, the official site lists PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4 and Steam; other games require their own current platform check.
- Select the exact edition. Compare the base game, Free Edition, expansion bundles and definitive upgrades. This is essential for Granblue Fantasy Versus: Rising and Mortal Kombat 1.
- Match the edition to your desired mode. Check that Story, party features, downloadable characters or expansions are included rather than merely advertised on a general game page.
- Check current online requirements. Ranked, room, lobby, cross-platform and replay functions depend on the platform’s online service and the publisher’s current support.
- Decide whether you need a trial. If available, use a demo or free version to test the control scheme and presentation before committing. For FATAL FURY: City of the Wolves, SNK’s September 30, 2026 announcement described a six-character demo, but availability is date-sensitive.
- Confirm controller compatibility. The documented alternate schemes are software options. Do not buy an extra controller on the assumption that one is required; verify compatibility separately if you prefer a fight stick or specialized gamepad.
Common mismatches to avoid
- Expecting TEKKEN 8 to be a 2D substitute: its 3D format is the point of the recommendation.
- Assuming every edition has every Granblue feature: the official page specifically excludes at least one listed feature from the Free Edition.
- Buying Mortal Kombat 1 without checking bundles: the FAQ lists expansions, DLC and a Definitive Edition Upgrade with differing contents.
- Confusing control schemes with hardware requirements: Arcade Style and Smart Style in FATAL FURY: City of the Wolves are in-game options.
- Treating promotional descriptions as test results: official feature and marketing pages document what a game offers, but they do not establish comparative balance, input latency, community size or netcode quality.
- Assuming dated availability remains current: platform support, online services, demos, DLC and release schedules can change. Recheck them at the point of purchase.
Which game should you pick?
There is no evidence-based single winner among these games; the official material describes different designs rather than a common quality score. Use this final fit test:
| Your main requirement | Most direct match | Why |
|---|---|---|
| A genuinely different combat format | TEKKEN 8 | It moves from a traditional 2D-style fighter to 3D combat and adds a Fight Lounge and ghost battles. |
| A distinctive 2.5D system | Guilty Gear -Strive- | Its 2.5D presentation and Tension Gauge create a separate learning path. |
| Several modes in one package | Granblue Fantasy Versus: Rising | Story, Arcade, Training, an online lobby and Grand Bruise Legends cover different play sessions. |
| A cinematic solo campaign and assists | Mortal Kombat 1 | Story and Invasions provide solo progression, while Kameo Fighters add a separately selected partner. |
| Alternate controls plus RPG-style progression | FATAL FURY: City of the Wolves | REV, Arcade Style, Smart Style and Episodes of South Town address those specific preferences. |
Before checkout, verify the current platform, region, edition contents, downloadable content and online requirements. Those details determine whether the feature that attracted you is actually included in the version you can buy.
