There is no reliable, current “no-wipe” ranking for the leading extraction shooters yet. Each game can preserve a different layer of progress—account unlocks, quests, character levels, stash contents, weapon access or seasonal rewards—and a title may keep your raid-to-raid progress while still resetting it during a season, prestige cycle or optional expedition.
Use the comparison below to identify which games are worth checking, then verify the current reset policy in official patch notes, FAQs and in-game notices before buying or committing time. The most important question is not simply “does it wipe?” but “which progress survives, when, and under what conditions?”
What “persistent progress” means in an extraction shooter
Extraction shooters combine a run-based risk loop with progression outside the individual match. You enter a raid, collect equipment or objectives, and try to leave alive. A successful extraction can add items, currency, experience or unlocks to an account. Death may remove what you carried, what you found, or both. A separate system can later reset some of that progress.

Those systems are often discussed as if they were one thing, but they are not. Before comparing games, separate persistence into these layers:

Raid-to-raid survival
This is the narrowest meaning of persistence. It asks what remains after an ordinary failed run. An account level, completed quest, unlocked weapon or permanent skill may survive death even when the rifle and supplies in your backpack do not. A game can therefore be punishing without being a full wipe game.
Inventory and stash persistence
Some games let you build a long-term stash of weapons, armor, crafting materials and currency. Others make that stash highly vulnerable, or place limits on what can be carried between runs. Check whether insured, stored or quest items follow different rules from gear taken into a raid.
Seasonal, wipe or prestige resets
A seasonal reset can remove levels, trader access, skills, quests or stash value even when those elements survive normal deaths. “Wipe” is not a universal technical term: one title might reset nearly everything, while another might reset only a competitive ladder or a voluntary character.

Some progression systems offer a reset in exchange for rewards, a fresh challenge or access to a new progression track. An optional reset is materially different from a mandatory wipe because you can decide whether to surrender progress.
Cosmetics and account-wide unlocks
Cosmetics, achievements, account entitlements and other meta-progression often follow separate rules. A game may preserve those items while resetting a season’s character level or stash. Read the exact wording for each category rather than treating “progress persists” as a blanket promise.

Escape from Tarkov: deep systems, but do not assume “persistent” means permanent
A 2026 secondary roundup presents Escape from Tarkov as the option for raw depth and realism. That description can help you decide whether its learning curve appeals to you, but it does not establish a current wipe schedule or identify which progression layers survive a reset.

Look specifically for separate statements about stash contents, trader levels, skills, quests, account unlocks and cosmetic items. A third-party 2026 guide describes a wipe as resetting stashes, trader levels and skills, but that description should not be treated as a current universal policy without confirmation from the developer.
The practical decision is therefore conditional: choose Tarkov for its documented depth only if you are comfortable with the possibility that long-term character or inventory progress may be reset on a schedule you have verified. Do not buy it on the assumption that a failed raid and a seasonal wipe have identical consequences.
ARC Raiders: an extraction adventure with a documented PvE test, not a documented persistence promise
The official ARC Raiders site calls the game an extraction adventure. Its October 12, 2026 announcement described a PvE matchmaking-toggle test scheduled for October 13–20, 2026. That is useful evidence about a temporary way to adjust the matchmaking experience, but it says nothing by itself about whether quests, gear, levels or stash contents survive ordinary failure or a season.

May 2026 coverage also described Expeditions as an optional reset. Treat that as a lead to verify, not a rule to generalize: an optional expedition could reset one character, a stash, a season track or another subset of progress. The distinction changes the recommendation completely. A voluntary reset can suit players who want a fresh challenge while protecting account-wide unlocks; a mandatory wipe affects everyone.
Before starting, check the current official FAQ, patch notes and expedition instructions. Confirm whether the PvE matchmaking option is available outside the dated test window, which platforms and regions are supported, and exactly what an Expedition consumes and returns. Until those points are stated by the developer, ARC Raiders is a promising candidate for players who value mode flexibility, not a verified no-wipe choice.
Hunt: Showdown 1896: progression changes are documented, persistence boundaries are not
Hunt: Showdown 1896 is characterized in a 2026 roundup as tense PvPvE bounty hunting. Its progression evidence is stronger than a simple store description: Crytek’s official Update 1.15 announcement from December 13, 2023, described an overhaul of Bloodline and weapon progression. The developer note states: “Our goal with these changes is to make Progression easier, faster, and more convenient for both new and Prestige players.”
Additional official material documents weapons and variants being added to regular progression and to the Book of Weapons. That tells you how unlock paths were being organized, but it does not answer every persistence question. You still need to verify what happens to Bloodline progress, hunter levels, equipment, quests and unlocks after death, prestige, a season or any future reset.
Hunt is a sensible candidate if you want a bounty-focused PvPvE loop and a progression system that has received explicit developer attention. It is not safe to label it permanently persistent from the cited announcements alone. Read the current prestige and seasonal rules before treating an unlock as a long-term investment.

Gray Zone Warfare and Marathon: candidates that require a policy check
Both Gray Zone Warfare and Marathon appeared in current Steam search results, but the available material does not establish their present reset or carryover rules. A store listing can confirm that a game is being surfaced on a platform; it cannot, by itself, tell you whether a season wipes a stash, whether account unlocks are permanent or whether the title is available in your country.
For either game, wait for a current official FAQ, progression guide or patch note that names the affected systems. If the documentation uses broad language such as “fresh start,” look for a follow-up list of what is deleted and what remains. Do not infer a policy from an early-access roadmap, a community comment or another game’s terminology.
The five questions to answer before choosing any extraction shooter
1. What survives an ordinary death?
Write down each category separately: extracted loot, stash items, currency, account level, character level, quests, skills, weapon access, crafting recipes and cosmetics. The answer may differ for equipment taken into the raid and equipment left in storage.
2. What does a scheduled wipe remove?
Look for explicit language covering trader or vendor levels, skills, quests, stash, currency and account-wide unlocks. If the developer only says “progress resets,” treat the scope as unknown rather than assuming everything disappears.

3. Are resets mandatory, seasonal or voluntary?
Identify the trigger and the player’s control. A mandatory season reset has a different time cost from a prestige button you can ignore. An Expedition-style reset may have entry requirements, a deadline or a reward that compensates for the loss.

4. How severe is failure?
Find out whether death removes only the loadout, the entire backpack, a hunter or character, quest items, or a portion of ongoing progression. Also check recovery systems such as insurance, secure containers, retrieval timers or protected slots.
5. Can you select the type of encounter you want?
Determine whether the game is primarily PvP, PvE or mixed, and whether a solo, squad or PvE-oriented matchmaking option is permanent or only being tested. Mode choice affects how often you can safely pursue long-term objectives.

Use this process immediately before buying and again after a major season or patch. Reset policies are volatile, so an answer that was correct last year can become wrong after one update.
- Start with the official game site. Search its news, FAQ and support sections for “wipe,” “reset,” “prestige,” “season,” “expedition,” “progression” and “carryover.” Record the publication date of each relevant notice.
- Read the latest patch notes in full. Do not stop at the headline. Progression changes are often listed under separate Bloodline, weapon, inventory, account or seasonal headings.
- Separate permanent and temporary systems. Make a two-column note for account-wide unlocks versus character, season or stash progress. Add a third column for items whose status is not stated.
- Check the current in-game notice. A launcher banner or season screen may specify a reset date, grace period or reward that is not present in older articles.
- Confirm platform and region. Availability, matchmaking tests and launch timing can vary by platform or country. A Steam result is not proof that every listed edition is purchasable where you live.
- Recheck after a test window. ARC Raiders’ October 13–20, 2026 PvE matchmaking test is a good example of why a dated feature announcement should not be treated as a permanent mode.
How to choose based on your tolerance for lost progress

Common mistakes that make a game seem more persistent than it is
- Confusing extraction with permanence. Successfully leaving a raid may save loot for the current season while a later wipe deletes it.
- Reading “progression” as one meter. Bloodline, weapon access, quests, skills and stash value can have different lifetimes.
- Using an old guide as a current rulebook. A May 2026 article or a 2026 roundup can be useful context, but the live game may have changed.
- Treating a test as a product feature. A matchmaking toggle announced for a defined October 13–20, 2026 window is not proof of permanent mode selection.
- Assuming prestige is a wipe. Prestige may reset a character or progression track while preserving account cosmetics or other unlocks; only the game’s own wording settles the question.
- Buying before checking availability. Store visibility does not establish regional access, final launch status or platform parity.
What a trustworthy “no-wipe” claim should contain
A useful claim names the system, trigger and date. “Quests survive ordinary death in the current season” is testable. “The game has persistent progression” is too vague unless it specifies whether that means account unlocks, stash, character level, weapon access or seasonal rewards.
When official documentation is incomplete, the honest conclusion is conditional: identify the game’s strengths, list the unanswered persistence questions and tell readers where to verify them. That approach is more useful than ranking games by a wipe policy that may have changed or was never documented in the first place.
Bottom line for players choosing today
Start with the progression layer you most want to keep. If you want raw depth and realism, investigate Escape from Tarkov’s current wipe and carryover rules before committing. If mode flexibility is central, examine ARC Raiders’ current matchmaking and Expedition documentation, remembering that the cited PvE option was a dated test. If you prefer tense bounty hunting and explicit progression-system notes, Hunt: Showdown 1896 has the clearest documented overhaul among these candidates, but its complete persistence model still requires a current official check. Treat Gray Zone Warfare and Marathon as watch-list options until their developers publish precise reset rules.
No game in this set can be responsibly crowned the definitive “no-wipe” extraction shooter from the documented evidence alone. The winning choice is the one whose current official policy matches the exact progress—gear, quests, levels, unlocks or rewards—you are unwilling to lose.
