The best Sony INZONE settings depend on your headset model, connection, and goal. Sony does not publish one universal EQ curve or microphone-gain value for every INZONE headset. For a reliable setup, connect through the supported USB path, select the headset’s Game playback device, select its matching Chat recording device, and then tune INZONE Hub while listening to familiar game and voice-chat audio. Treat any exact slider position as a personal starting point, not a Sony-approved preset.

What “best” means for an INZONE headset

There is no single best EQ for every INZONE model or player. A competitive shooter player may prioritize quiet footsteps and positional cues; an RPG player may prefer fuller music and explosions; a voice-chat user may need speech to remain clear at a lower game volume. Your headset’s active connection also determines which software stores and applies a setting.

Sony’s support documentation provides the setup and compatibility rules, but it does not prescribe one numeric equalizer curve or microphone gain that works across all INZONE products. The practical target is a repeatable signal path, followed by small changes that you verify with your own games, music, and chat test.

Before changing a slider: identify the active path

1. Confirm the exact headset model

Open INZONE Hub and note the model name. Features and connection instructions differ between models. Sony’s setup guidance specifically includes USB audio-box instructions for the INZONE H3, E9, and H6 Air, while other models use a USB transceiver. Use the directions for your model rather than assuming that a setting shown for one INZONE headset appears on another. See Sony’s current setup instructions at How to set up the headphones using the INZONE Hub software.

2. Use the supported PC connection

For the Hub controls covered by Sony—equalizer, spatial sound, dynamic range control, game/chat balance, and microphone volume—Sony specifies the supplied USB transceiver with its switch set to PC, or the model-specific USB audio box where applicable. Bluetooth does not activate those INZONE Hub controls. Sony also states that the listed Hub sound and microphone functions do not work on PS5; PS5 has its own device and microphone controls instead. The full compatibility notes are in Sony’s troubleshooting article, The settings (Equalizer, Spatial Sound etc.) on the INZONE Hub software do not work.

3. Separate Game playback from Chat recording

INZONE headsets normally expose separate Windows endpoints. The Game endpoint carries game and system playback; the Chat endpoint is used for voice-chat input and often for the chat side of the mix. If Hub opens but its changes appear ineffective, the computer may have routed Hub to the Chat endpoint after installation or an update. Correct the route before adjusting EQ.

Recommended Windows setup, step by step

  1. Connect the hardware. Plug in the supported USB transceiver or the model’s USB audio box. Set the transceiver’s switch to PC when it has one. Do not start with Bluetooth if you need Hub EQ, spatial sound, dynamic range, game/chat balance, or microphone controls.
  2. Open Windows sound routing. In Windows 11, open Settings → System → Sound → Volume mixer. Sony’s support page uses Windows 11 labels as an example; wording can vary slightly by Windows version.
  3. Route INZONE Hub to Game. In the per-app output list, choose the headset model’s Game device for INZONE Hub. If your Windows version does not offer per-app routing, set the model’s Game endpoint as the computer’s default output, then reopen Hub. Sony notes that installing or updating Hub can leave its output on the Chat device, so this check is important.
  4. Set the system output. Choose the same model-specific Game device as the default output for games and normal computer audio unless you intentionally use another output for a particular application.
  5. Open INZONE Hub and select the headset. Wait for the model to appear, then confirm that the EQ and other controls are available. If they are greyed out or changes do not alter audio, return to the connection and routing checks rather than moving more sliders.
  6. Choose the Chat recording device. In Settings → System → Sound → Input, select the model-specific Chat microphone. In each voice application, select that same Chat microphone explicitly instead of relying on its default-device choice.
  7. Run a voice test. Use your chat application’s microphone test or a short recording. Raise the input level only until normal speech is clear and the meter does not clip. This is a listening and metering method, not a Sony-published numeric target.

Device names can differ by model and Windows release. Look for the model name followed by Game for playback and Chat for the microphone, rather than copying a label from a different INZONE headset.

How to tune EQ without a misleading “universal” preset

Start flat, then change one purpose at a time

Begin with the current or neutral EQ in Hub. Pick a familiar game scene that contains the sound you care about—footsteps, reloads, dialogue, or environmental effects—and listen for a minute. Change only one band or one control at a time, using a small adjustment, then compare with the previous setting. Large simultaneous boosts make it difficult to tell what helped and can introduce harshness or distortion.

For competitive game detail

Prioritize intelligibility over cinematic impact. If low-frequency explosions mask quieter cues, reduce the bass region slightly rather than boosting every higher band. If voices or footsteps sound recessed, make a small midrange adjustment. High-frequency boosts can make detail seem sharper, but they can also emphasize hiss, weapon transients, and listening fatigue. Stop when the cue is easy to locate at a comfortable volume.

For balanced game audio

Keep changes modest and preserve the relationship between dialogue, effects, and music. Compare a quiet scene, a busy combat scene, and a dialogue scene. A curve that sounds exciting during one explosion may make speech thin or tiring over a long session.

For music and general computer audio

Use several familiar tracks rather than one recording. Check vocals, bass instruments, cymbals, and stereo placement. If you switch frequently between games and music, a restrained EQ is easier to live with than an extreme competitive curve. Save separate Hub profiles when your model and Hub version provide that option.

Do not confuse EQ with other sound controls

Equalizer bands change frequency balance. Spatial sound changes the presentation of positional audio. Dynamic range control changes the contrast between quiet and loud sounds. Game/chat balance changes the relative level of those sources. Noise cancellation and ambient modes affect outside sound, not the EQ curve. Test each control separately so you know which change produced the result.

Where EQ is stored on different INZONE products

A preset does not necessarily follow the headset between every device. Sony documents separate storage paths for some models and connections.

Situation Where the EQ is applied or stored What to remember
Most PC use through the supported USB path INZONE Hub on the computer Hub must be routed to the Game endpoint and the supported USB hardware must be active.
INZONE Buds connected to a computer INZONE Hub on the computer The computer-connected EQ is handled by Hub.
INZONE Buds over Bluetooth Sony | Sound Connect EQ stored on the earbuds The Bluetooth EQ is a separate path from the computer’s Hub setting.
INZONE H9 II Hub and onboard equalizer paths vary by connection Check which connection is active before assuming a Hub preset is being used.

These distinctions are summarized in Sony’s article, Which Equalizer setting works in the INZONE Hub and Sony | Headphones Connect app?. If a profile seems to disappear when you move from USB to Bluetooth, first determine which app and storage path that connection uses.

Microphone settings for clear voice chat

Choose the correct input device

In Windows, select the model-specific Chat recording device. Then open the voice application’s audio settings and select the same input explicitly. A game or chat client can retain an old device selection even after Windows changes its default.

Set microphone level by meter and listening test

Speak at your normal distance and volume while watching the application’s input meter or recording a short sample. Increase the level until speech is consistently intelligible; back it down if peaks clip, sound brittle, or room noise becomes dominant. Test with the microphone in its normal position, because moving a boom closer can change level more than a software adjustment.

Check the physical mute state

Inspect the boom position and hardware mute control. Depending on the model, moving or removing the boom can change the microphone state. A muted boom or an incorrectly positioned microphone cannot be repaired with EQ or gain.

Use the right control on PS5

Hub’s listed microphone controls are not available on PS5. Sony recommends adjusting Microphone Level on the console when chat partners cannot hear you, while also checking the console’s selected input and the headset’s mute state. On PC, adjust the selected Chat recording device in the computer and application instead. Sony’s model coverage and voice-chat checks are listed at While on a phone call or voice chat, I cannot hear the other party’s voice or they cannot hear mine.

Sidetone, noise cancellation, and the “too much ambient sound” problem

Sidetone feeds some of your own microphone signal back to your ears so you can monitor your voice. Sony warns that active sidetone can make noise cancellation seem weaker or make ambient sound seem louder. That sensation does not necessarily mean the headset’s noise cancellation has failed.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

If your voice sounds unnatural or outside noise is distracting, open the Sidetone control in Hub where your model supports it and reduce it or turn it off for a comparison. Also check the boom position and microphone state; Sony notes that those physical conditions can change sidetone behavior. The relevant explanation is in While voice chatting using INZONE headphones, the noise canceling effect is weak or the ambient sound is too loud.

Troubleshooting: when Hub settings do not work

Hub opens, but EQ or spatial controls do nothing

  • Verify that the USB transceiver is connected and its switch is set to PC, or that the model’s USB audio box is connected as instructed.
  • Confirm that Hub’s output is the model-specific Game device, not Chat.
  • Set Game as the Windows default output temporarily, close Hub, and reopen it.
  • Check that you are not testing over Bluetooth, which does not activate the listed Hub controls.
  • Remember that Sony says these listed Hub functions do not work on PS5; use the console’s own audio controls there.

Chat partners cannot hear you

  • Select the model-specific Chat recording device in Windows.
  • Select that same microphone inside the voice-chat application.
  • Raise the computer or application input level gradually while watching the meter.
  • Check hardware mute, boom position, and whether the application has its own voice-activation or input threshold setting.
  • On PS5, use the console’s Microphone Level control rather than expecting Hub’s PC controls to apply.

You hear your room or noise cancellation seems weak

  • Reduce or disable Sidetone and listen again.
  • Check boom position and any model-specific microphone state.
  • Compare with voice chat disabled; if the effect disappears, sidetone is a likely explanation rather than an EQ problem.

The preset works on one device but not another

Identify the active connection and app. INZONE Buds use Hub for computer-connected EQ but Sound Connect and earbud storage for Bluetooth. H9 II also has connection-dependent Hub and onboard paths. Recreate or select the profile in the app that controls the current connection instead of expecting one setting to transfer automatically.

A practical goal-based setup checklist

Your goal Starting approach Validation
Competitive positional cues Neutral EQ; make a small bass reduction only if effects mask quiet cues; use spatial controls separately. Locate footsteps and reloads in a familiar match without raising overall volume.
Balanced gaming Keep changes restrained; preserve dialogue and music while checking effects. Compare quiet exploration, dialogue, and combat scenes.
Music and general listening Use a modest profile and several familiar tracks; avoid extreme boosts. Check vocals, bass, cymbals, and fatigue over a longer listen.
Clear voice chat Select the Chat microphone, set level with a meter, and verify mute and boom position. Use the application’s test recording and ask a teammate whether speech remains clear during game audio.

What to remember about INZONE Hub software

Hub is the control point for supported PC connections, but its behavior depends on routing and hardware. Sony publishes software information for Hub, including version notes, at INZONE Hub Version 1.0.20.0. Keep Hub and the headset connection in the state supported by your model’s instructions, then verify the Game and Chat endpoints after an update.

The most dependable workflow is therefore: identify the model, connect through the supported PC hardware, route Hub to Game, select Chat for the microphone, tune one purpose at a time, and validate in the actual game and chat application. If a control is unavailable, fix compatibility and routing first; changing EQ cannot compensate for an inactive signal path.
