Shark FlexStyle is the closest all-round substitute for a Dyson Airwrap if you want interchangeable drying, curling and smoothing attachments with automatic airflow wrapping. T3 Aire 360 Next-Generation is the stronger choice when ceramic barrels, a long cord and a lighter body matter more than having the largest attachment assortment. BaByliss Air Style 1000 cuts the price substantially but uses a manual wrap technique, while Revlon One-Step is a budget blowout and volume brush rather than a full multi-styler.

The right choice depends on the exact bundle, your curl technique, whether you pre-dry your hair, and the voltage sold in your country. The prices and specifications below are point-in-time examples from 2026 reviews and listings, not permanent offers.

What counts as a real Airwrap alternative?

A true alternative should handle at least two of the Airwrap’s core jobs—drying and styling—and ideally let you switch between curling and smoothing attachments during one routine. Not every hot-air brush qualifies. A single oval brush can create a smooth, voluminous blowout, but it cannot reproduce the flexibility of separate barrels, concentrators, smoothing brushes and diffusers.

The original reference point is the US Dyson Airwrap Straight+Wavy, listed at $599.99 on Dyson’s page when accessed for this comparison. That set includes a dryer/flyaway smoother, 1.6-inch and 1.2-inch barrels that curl in both directions, soft and firm smoothing brushes, a round volumizing brush, a storage case and a filter-cleaning brush. Dyson describes that configuration for straight and wavy hair at chest length or longer. Other Airwrap editions and regional bundles can contain different attachments, so use the exact model being sold in your market as the baseline.

REVLON One-Step Volumizer Plus Hair Dryer and Styler, 2.4 in Barrel, Black | Soft waves, flips and curls, best for short to mid-length hair, 4 heat settings, detachable brush head
  • Closer-to-root styling: The smaller 2.4 in oval barrel offers added control for root lift, soft waves, flips, and curls
  • Best for shorter lengths: Choose Volumizer Plus for chin length to mid-length hair or when you want more precision than a 2.8 in barrel
  • 6 heat settings: Select Cool, Low, Medium, or High for more styling control across drying, shaping, and refreshing
  • Detachable for storage: Remove the brush head for compact storage and easier packing; the detachable design also enables dryer use
  • Detangle and smooth: Charcoal-infused pins and tufted bristles help detangle, grip, and guide hair while creating a polished finish

The alternatives differ in an important way: some use airflow to draw hair around a barrel, some require you to wrap the section by hand, and some provide only a brush. That mechanical difference affects learning time, tension, curl direction and how closely the tool substitutes for an Airwrap.

1. Shark FlexStyle: closest all-round Airwrap substitute

Why it is the closest match

Shark’s reviewed FlexStyle configuration combines a dryer with five interchangeable attachments, three speed settings and three temperature settings. The curling attachment uses airflow rather than asking you to wind every section around a hot barrel. That is the feature that most closely mirrors the Airwrap’s hands-off wrapping experience.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Woman & Home reported that the FlexStyle had the largest attachment range among the competitor tools its reviewer tried. In that review, the drying attachment took the tester’s hair to styling readiness in five minutes, and the 32 mm curling attachment produced defined ringlets. Those are one reviewer’s observations from testing over several weeks, not a controlled laboratory comparison or a guarantee for every hair texture.

Technique and preparation

Use the dryer attachment first, then switch to the styling head when hair is mostly dry. Woman & Home advises that the hair should be mostly dry for the FlexStyle styling step. Starting with soaking-wet sections lengthens the process and makes it harder for a curl to set; starting with bone-dry hair removes the moisture that helps airflow shape the section.

  1. Blot and detangle clean hair, then apply the heat protectant and any product appropriate for your texture.
  2. Rough-dry until the hair is mostly dry, leaving enough moisture for shaping.
  3. Divide the hair into manageable sections. Select a lower temperature while learning the airflow direction.
  4. Hold the barrel near the ends and let the airflow draw the section around it. Keep the section narrow enough that air can reach through the hair.
  5. Allow the curl to heat, then use the cool setting before releasing it. Alternate the barrel direction on opposite sides for a balanced finish.
  6. Change to the smoothing brush or another supplied attachment only after the section is dry enough for the finish you want.

Limitations

FlexStyle bundles vary by country and retailer. A UK five-attachment kit is not proof that a US package contains the same heads, and a diffuser may be sold separately or omitted. Confirm whether your exact box includes the barrel size, smoothing brush, concentrator or diffuser you need. UK review results also cannot establish how quickly the tool will dry very thick, coarse or highly textured hair.

2. T3 Aire 360 Next-Generation: best ceramic-barrel alternative

What changed with the next generation

TechRadar reports that T3 launched the next-generation Aire 360 in the US in March 2026. The Standard bundle was listed at $349.99 and the Diffuser version at $359.99 when reviewed. The earlier Aire 360 launched in 2023 at $299.99 in the US and £249.99 in the UK and was discontinued in the US after the next-generation launch, so do not assume an older listing has the current attachments or warranty.

The Standard set contains two 1.35-inch CeraGloss ceramic curling barrels, a SoftAire drying concentrator and an oval brush. The Diffuser configuration adds a diffuser. The tool is rated at 1,400 W, weighs about 1.3 lb (590 g) without its cord, offers three airflow settings and three temperature settings, averages 71 dB in the cited review and has a 9 ft (2.74 m) swivel cord.

REVLON One-Step Root Booster Round Brush Hair Dryer and Styler, 1.5" Barrel
  • Salon-Worthy Blowouts: Revlon hot brush styler leaves your hair full, fabulous, and shiny - blowouts have never been easier
  • Technology Meets Beauty: Blowout brush that uses Ionic Technology for shiny healthy-looking hair with less frizz and static
  • 1.5" Round Brush Blow Dryer: The 3x ceramic-coated barrel helps reduce heat damage, while the 6-ft swivel cord keeps your styling tangle and hassle-free
  • Simple and Versatile: This Revlon hair dryer brush offers drying and styling flexibility with three heat settings - low, high, and cool
  • Best for Chin-Length to Medium Length Hair: Great for styling layers, creating smooth finishes or curls without using a curling iron

How its curl method differs

The two ceramic barrels are used with both hands. You position the section and wrap it around the selected barrel rather than letting an airflow vortex pull the hair around automatically. This gives you direct control over tension and placement, but it is not the same technique as the Airwrap or FlexStyle. Buyers who specifically want automatic wrapping should choose an airflow model instead.

  1. Use the SoftAire concentrator to bring hair close to dry, then separate a small section.
  2. Select the barrel size and direction that match the curl you want. Smaller sections and the smaller barrel create a tighter result; larger sections produce a looser bend.
  3. Wrap the section manually around the ceramic barrel while keeping the ends aligned. Avoid overlapping a thick section over itself.
  4. Hold long enough to heat the section, apply cool air if available, then unwind without pulling the curl straight.
  5. Use the oval brush for a smoother, stretched finish or the diffuser configuration for curls and waves that should retain more of their natural pattern.

Who should buy it

The T3 is a sensible pick if you value a comparatively light body, a long swivel cord and ceramic barrels, or if a diffuser is essential and the $10 premium for the Diffuser bundle is acceptable at the cited review prices. TechRadar compared the US FlexStyle at $349.99 and the Dyson Airwrap range at $549.99–$749.99, with the Airwrap i.d. at $649.99; these were review-time US examples and should be rechecked.

3. BaByliss Air Style 1000: the low-cost manual option

What you get

Woman & Home lists a UK RRP example of £75 for the BaByliss Air Style 1000. Its review describes four attachments, one speed and three temperature settings, with the ability to smooth, volumise or curl. That is a much lower entry price than the Airwrap, FlexStyle or next-generation Aire 360, but the product achieves its result through a simpler, more hands-on method.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Manual wrapping is the key trade-off

The Air Style 1000 does not use the same Coanda-style airflow effect. You wrap the hair around its barrel yourself, so the result depends on section size, tension, direction and timing. It can be effective if you already know how to use a round brush or curling wand, but it will not feel like an automatic-wrap tool. Woman & Home also described it as louder than the Dyson.

The brand advice reported by Woman & Home is to begin with hair that is about 80% dry. Use the dryer attachment until the hair reaches that stage, then switch to the brush or barrel. If you try to style a saturated section, you spend more time evaporating water and less time shaping the hair.

Best use case and boundaries

Choose this model when price is the deciding factor and you want several basic functions in one kit. Do not buy it expecting the largest attachment ecosystem, automatic airflow wrapping or the same finish with no practice. Confirm the exact four heads in the listing, because attachment assortments can change between regional packages.

4. Revlon One-Step: best for a simple budget blowout

The Independent’s UK 2026 roundup lists the Revlon Salon One-Step Hair Dryer and Volumiser as a £49.99 budget alternative. Its strength is a straightforward brush blowout: lift at the roots, smooth the lengths and add volume with one pass pattern. It is a narrower solution than an interchangeable multi-styler.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Pick it if your normal routine is a smooth, rounded blowout and you rarely need separate curling barrels, a concentrator or a diffuser. If your shopping list says “dry, curl and smooth with different attachments,” a one-piece volumiser brush will not provide those independent tools. Verify the exact model, brush size, plug and local price before buying; the cited amount is a UK example, not a universal price.

Attachment-by-attachment buying guide

Drying concentrator or dryer head

A dryer head gets the hair to the moisture level required for styling and can replace a separate blow-dryer step. Check whether it is included or sold separately. A tool that advertises curling but lacks a practical drying head may force you to use another dryer first.

Airflow curling barrels

Airflow barrels are the closest mechanical match to the Airwrap. They help draw the section around the barrel and can switch curl direction, reducing manual wrapping. Confirm the barrel diameter: the reviewed FlexStyle used a 32 mm curling attachment, while the T3 set uses two 1.35-inch (about 34 mm) ceramic barrels. Diameter, airflow strength and section size all affect how tight the curl appears.

Manual ceramic barrels

Manual barrels offer precise control but require both hands and consistent wrapping. They may suit users who want to choose exactly where the bend begins. They are not a drop-in replacement for automatic wrapping, even when the finished curl looks similar.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Smoothing brushes

Soft or firm smoothing brushes are useful for reducing the appearance of flyaways and stretching a wave into a straighter finish. An oval brush generally emphasizes a smooth blowout and root lift. Brush bristle arrangement, heat level and tension matter more than the word “smoothing” on the box.

Round volumising brush

A round brush creates lift and a curved finish but is narrower in purpose than a set with separate barrels. It is valuable for fringe, crown volume and a classic salon blowout.

Diffuser

A diffuser spreads airflow so curls and waves can dry with less direct force. The next-generation T3 diffuser is an attachment in the $359.99 Diffuser bundle cited by TechRadar, not the $349.99 Standard configuration. Check this distinction carefully if you wear your natural texture.

How to choose by hair routine

You want automatic curls with the least manual work

Start with the Shark FlexStyle because the reviewed configuration uses airflow curling. Buy only after confirming that your regional bundle contains the barrel and smoothing heads you need.

You want ceramic barrels and a long, light tool

Choose the T3 Aire 360 Next-Generation if two-handed wrapping is acceptable. Its reported 1.3 lb body and 9 ft swivel cord can make a difference at a mirror where a short cord or heavy handle becomes tiring.

You mainly want a smooth, voluminous blowout

The Revlon One-Step is the most focused and least expensive route among these examples. A multi-styler is unnecessary if you will not use its curling or interchangeable attachments.

You need a diffuser

Look specifically for the T3 Diffuser bundle or another package that names a diffuser in the box. Do not infer its inclusion from the product family name. A regional FlexStyle kit may also differ from the five-attachment UK configuration reviewed by Woman & Home.

You need the lowest purchase price while keeping several functions

The BaByliss Air Style 1000 is the low-cost multi-attachment option in the cited examples, but budget for a learning curve because the barrel requires manual wrapping and the kit has only one speed.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Preparation and styling workflow

  1. Check the manual and voltage. Match the tool’s voltage to the country where you will use it. A plug adapter does not convert voltage, and a dual-voltage claim must be printed for the exact model.
  2. Inventory the box. Photograph or list each attachment before discarding packaging. Compare it with the retailer’s model number, because bundles can share a family name while omitting a diffuser or changing barrel sizes.
  3. Start with clean, detangled hair. Blot rather than aggressively rubbing. Apply heat protectant and any styling product compatible with your hair and the manufacturer’s instructions.
  4. Pre-dry to the correct stage. The BaByliss guidance cited by Woman & Home is approximately 80% dry; the FlexStyle review advises mostly dry hair for styling. Follow the specific manual if it gives a different threshold.
  5. Work in controlled sections. Thick sections hide moisture in the center and reduce the airflow’s ability to shape the outside. Smaller sections usually take longer but produce more even results.
  6. Choose the mechanism deliberately. Let an airflow barrel attract the section, or manually wrap it around a ceramic/manual barrel. Do not force a manual-wrap technique onto a tool designed to self-wrap.
  7. Set the shape. Use the cool setting where provided, then release the curl or brush pass without immediately combing it out. Let the hair cool before brushing through for a softer finish.
  8. Finish with the right head. Use a smoothing brush for a straighter surface, an oval or round brush for volume, and a diffuser for retaining curl pattern.

Settings, noise and handling considerations

More settings are useful only when they map to a real need. The Shark and T3 configurations cited here each provide three speeds and three temperatures. The BaByliss Air Style 1000 has one speed and three temperatures, which limits airflow control but simplifies the interface.

Noise and weight are personal constraints. Woman & Home found the BaByliss louder than the Dyson. TechRadar measured the next-generation T3 at an average 71 dB in its review and reported its weight without the cord as about 1.3 lb (590 g). These figures come from specific editorial tests and should not be treated as universal laboratory rankings.

Cord length can matter in a small bathroom. The T3’s reported 9 ft (2.74 m) swivel cord offers more reach than many compact tools. Check the actual specification for another model rather than assuming a similar price means a similar cable.

Price, warranty and regional checks

Use the same country, currency and date when comparing prices. The examples here span a $599.99 US Dyson listing, $349.99 and $359.99 US T3 review prices, a £299 UK FlexStyle RRP, a £75 UK BaByliss RRP and a £49.99 UK Revlon example. Exchange-rate conversion would create a misleading ranking, and promotional prices can disappear.

Common mistakes and fixes

The curl drops quickly

Reduce section size, begin with hair that is mostly dry rather than wet, use enough heat to shape the section, and cool the curl before releasing it. Heavy product or releasing the curl while it is still hot can also reduce hold.

One side curls in the wrong direction

Check the barrel’s directional switch or use the opposite barrel where the kit supplies two. Work with a mirror so the airflow or manual wrap points away from the face on both sides.

The roots are flat but the ends are curled

Start the airflow or manual wrap closer to the root while keeping the tool moving enough to avoid concentrating heat in one spot. Use an oval or round brush on the root area before curling the lengths.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Hair is frizzy after smoothing

Make sure the section is dry before the final brush pass, reduce airflow or temperature if the tool allows it, and keep the brush moving in the direction of the hair shaft. A flyaway-smoothing attachment may help, but it cannot replace correct preparation.

The tool feels impossible to control

Practice on a small, lower section with the lowest effective heat. Automatic airflow tools and manual ceramic barrels require different hand positions; changing between them without adjusting section size and timing is a common source of poor results.

Which alternative should you buy?

Choose Shark FlexStyle when the closest Airwrap-style airflow curling and the largest reported attachment range are your priorities. Choose T3 Aire 360 Next-Generation when you prefer ceramic barrels, a reported 1.3 lb body, three-by-three settings and a 9 ft cord, or when the Diffuser bundle fits your routine. Choose BaByliss Air Style 1000 when a lower-cost, four-attachment kit is worth learning manual wrapping. Choose Revlon One-Step when your actual need is a simple volumised blowout, not a full curl-smooth-dry system.

None of these choices is proven by the cited material to work best for every hair type. The reviews are editorial tests rather than controlled head-to-head laboratory studies, and outcomes depend on texture, length, section size, products, technique and the exact regional bundle.
