Choose the Army of Renown that matches the duardin you already own. Valankrom’s War Throng is the most self-contained Khazalite force, built around High Kyng Valankrom, Gholems and durable infantry. Fyrd of Fyrepeak is the natural choice for a Fyreslayer-heavy collection, while Throngankor Alliance is designed for players who want Khazalite infantry backed by Kharadron mobility and shooting.
These recommendations describe rules synergy from Games Workshop’s 2026 Khazalite Holds previews. They are not a tournament ranking: current points, stock and event results were not included in those previews.
Quick recommendation
| Army of Renown | Best for | Priority additions | What the rules reward |
|---|---|---|---|
| Valankrom’s War Throng | A new or mostly Khazalite collection | High Kyng Valankrom, Gholems of Gazul or Gholems of Valaya, Clanshields, Valayan Guardians | Keeping the War Throne and its bodyguards in the centre, then counter-attacking units marked by grudges |
| Fyrd of Fyrepeak | An established Fyreslayers army | Hearthguard Berzerkers, Auric Hearthguard, Vulkyn Flameseekers, a Magmadroth hero, Auric Flamekeeper and Grimhold Exile | Reaching the enemy, destroying units and building grudge marks around a nominated enemy HERO |
| Throngankor Alliance | A mixed Khazalite and Kharadron collection | Valayan Guardians or Clanshields, a non-HERO Kharadron infantry unit and a Kharadron Skyvessel | Keeping a Khazalite anvil and Kharadron partner together for defensive and shooting bonuses |
If you are buying a Khazalite force from scratch, start with Valankrom’s War Throng. If most of your shelves are Fyreslayers, Fyrd of Fyrepeak lets those models remain the core of the army. If you already own Kharadron Overlords, Throngankor Alliance offers the clearest reason to combine the two ranges.

How to choose before buying anything
Start with the collection you can field immediately
Army of Renown rules are most useful when they improve units you actually have, rather than models that exist only on a future shopping list. Count your current units by family. A collection dominated by the new Khazalite miniatures points toward Valankrom’s War Throng. A sizable Fyreslayers force points toward Fyrd of Fyrepeak. A force containing both Khazalites and Kharadron Overlords can exploit Throngankor’s paired-unit rules without replacing an entire army.

Decide whether you want a centre, a rush or a combined-arms plan
- Centre-and-counter-punch: Valankrom’s War Throng places a War Throne, Gholems and resilient infantry in the middle of the table. Enemies that damage Valankrom become wrongdoers, and units count as having one grudge mark while fighting a wrongdoer.
- Aggressive grudge escalation: Fyrd of Fyrepeak turns destroyed enemy units into grudge marks and uses Foeseeker to nominate an enemy HERO as a nemesis.
- Anvil-and-hammer coordination: Throngankor Alliance asks you to keep a Khazalite infantry unit and a Kharadron infantry unit shoulder-to-shoulder, often after a Skyvessel move.
Do not use points as a buying guide yet
The 2026 previews establish the formations and their unit identities, but do not provide current points or tournament results. Build your first purchase around the formation’s required roles, then check the released battle profiles and the event pack you intend to play before buying multiples.
Valankrom’s War Throng: the self-contained Khazalite choice
Games Workshop describes this formation as High Kyng Valankrom on his epic War Throne, supported by Kromdron units such as Clanshields and Valayan Guardians and “plenty of rock hard Gholems.” It is the clearest option when you want the new Khazalite range to function as a complete army rather than as an allied detachment.
High Kyng Valankrom is the starting point
Valankrom is not a generic optional leader in this formation; the abilities are written around him, making his model the first purchase for a War Throng collection. His published 2026 profile lists 16 Health, a 10-inch Move, a 3+ Save and Control 5. His Bharadreng weapon has six attacks, hits on 3+, wounds on 3+, has Rend 2 and deals 3 Damage.
Recommended Free Tools
Those numbers explain the recommended battlefield job: place the War Throne where the opponent must respect its durability and melee output, but do not treat the leader as a substitute for screens. The army’s other units are what keep the centre occupied long enough for Valankrom’s abilities to matter.
Gholems provide the bodyguard layer
Choose Gholems of Gazul or Gholems of Valaya as the War Throne’s hard-hitting support. Games Workshop specifically describes Gholems as becoming immovable bodyguards for the High Kyng in this Army of Renown. They are therefore a better early addition than a second independent attack unit: their value comes from protecting the formation’s centre while threatening anything that commits to it.
Pick one Gholem option first, learn how the unit protects Valankrom in your rules set, and expand only after you know how many bodies your battlepack and points limit permit. The available preview does not establish a points value or a preferred ratio between the two Gholem types.

Clanshields create the screen
Clanshields are the durable infantry screen named in the official description of Valankrom’s force. Use them to occupy the space in front of the War Throne and Gholems, deny easy access to the centre and give your heavier units room to choose their counter-charge. Their role is positional rather than glamorous: a screen that survives one more turn can preserve the formation’s key abilities.

Valayan Guardians hold the heart of the army
Valayan Guardians are a resilient elite infantry choice. Games Workshop calls them among the finest troops available to a Khazalite Hold and describes them as defenders of the heart of duardin society. They can form the second layer behind Clanshields, hold an important objective or replace the screen when you need a more capable unit to contest the centre.
A sensible War Throng buying sequence
- Buy High Kyng Valankrom, because the formation’s identity and published abilities are built around him.
- Add one unit of Gholems of Gazul or Gholems of Valaya to serve as his bodyguard and close-combat support.
- Add Clanshields to create a durable front line that protects the War Throne.
- Add Valayan Guardians when you need a tougher objective holder or a second central block.
- Only then fill remaining points with additional units after checking the current battle profiles and your event’s list restrictions.
How the grudge rule changes your turns
When an enemy damages Valankrom, that enemy is marked as a wrongdoer. Units in the formation count as having one grudge mark while fighting a wrongdoer. The practical implication is that you should not scatter the army across the table. Keep enough of the War Throng close to the War Throne that the units benefiting from the mark can reach the offending enemy on the following turn.
Fyrd of Fyrepeak: the Fyreslayer-heavy army
Fyrd of Fyrepeak is aimed at players with a sizable Fyreslayers collection. Its central loop is more aggressive than Valankrom’s: each time a Fyrd unit destroys an enemy unit, it gains a grudge mark. The Foeseeker ability nominates an enemy HERO, and the army can spread grudge marks when that nemesis dies or is engaged at the time of its death.
Hearthguard Berzerkers are the melee core
Hearthguard Berzerkers are the most natural first infantry addition for a formation that rewards closing with targets and converting kills into grudges. They give the army a unit that can contest the fight after the initial approach rather than relying entirely on a mounted leader to do the work.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsAuric Hearthguard add pressure while advancing
Auric Hearthguard are another retained infantry option in Battletome: Khazalite Holds. They provide ranged pressure as the army advances, so they complement rather than duplicate the Berzerkers’ melee task. Include them when your collection needs a way to influence an enemy unit before the Fyrd reaches combat.

Vulkyn Flameseekers supply mobility
Vulkyn Flameseekers are retained mobile infantry and fit the formation’s aggressive identity. They can help the Fyrd threaten a flank, close distance to the nominated HERO or force the opponent to screen more than one approach. Their inclusion is especially logical when the rest of the collection is made up of slower infantry blocks.
Magmadroth heroes create the threat the rules describe
An Auric Runefather or Auric Runeson on Magmadroth gives the army a fast, forceful monster-mounted threat. Either is a natural hunter for the Foeseeker target: the formation wants to nominate an enemy HERO, pressure it and turn its destruction into an army-wide grudge event. Choose the leader whose warscroll and model you prefer, then verify the current battle profile before committing to more than one.
Support characters complete the Fyreslayer package
An Auric Flamekeeper and Grimhold Exile are retained support and character options. They are useful additions after the main combat units are covered, because the formation’s first requirement is enough pressure to reach and destroy targets. They should support a functioning Fyrd rather than replace its infantry core.

Repair common Windows errors and clear accumulated junk for a smoother, more stable PC - no reinstall needed.Free scan · no reinstallUse Ur-gold abilities deliberately
The formation’s Ur-gold abilities are once-per-battle effects. Games Workshop gives Rune of Speed as an example: it allows re-rolls of run and charge rolls for Fyrd units for the rest of the battle round. Treat that timing as a resource. Save the effect for the turn when a re-rolled charge changes which unit reaches the Foeseeker target or secures a decisive destruction, rather than spending it on a routine move.
A practical Fyrd buying sequence
- Use your existing Fyreslayer leaders and infantry to identify which units can reliably reach an enemy HERO.
- Add Hearthguard Berzerkers as the primary melee block.
- Add Auric Hearthguard if the army lacks ranged pressure during its approach.
- Add Vulkyn Flameseekers when you need mobile infantry for flanks and target hunting.
- Add an Auric Runefather or Auric Runeson on Magmadroth as the principal fast threat.
- Finish with an Auric Flamekeeper or Grimhold Exile after checking the released battle profiles and points.
Throngankor Alliance: pairing a Khazalite anvil with Kharadron mobility
Throngankor Alliance combines Khazalite Holds and Kharadron Overlords. It is the most demanding of the three formations because its key benefits depend on two units remaining in the right place at the same time.
Build the Khazalite anvil first
Choose Valayan Guardians or Clanshields as the Khazalite partner. Games Workshop’s example specifically imagines a reinforced unit of Valayan Guardians arriving from a Kharadron vessel, but Clanshields can fill the anvil role when you want a durable screen that is easier to commit to the centre.

- Please Note: To reach 10Gbps speed, keep the cable under 3.3 ft. For USB A Male to USB C adapters, try flipping the USB C connector. USB C Male to USB A adapters support bidirectional 10Gbps transfer within 3.3 ft
The anvil’s task is to engage or hold the enemy. It is not simply a passenger: the Kharadron unit receives its best protection and offensive opportunity because the Khazalite unit has established contact.
Add a matching Kharadron infantry partner
Stone and Sky targets a non-HERO Khazalite infantry unit and a non-HERO Kharadron infantry unit within half an inch of each other. While they remain together, attacks targeting them subtract 1 from wound rolls. That makes the Kharadron infantry choice a positional decision: select a unit that can stay beside the Khazalite partner instead of one that must immediately operate elsewhere.
The preview does not identify one mandatory Kharadron infantry warscroll. Use a non-HERO infantry unit from your collection that can keep the half-inch relationship and still contribute when the anvil is in combat.
Use a Skyvessel to solve the approach problem
A Kharadron Skyvessel gives the alliance its movement plan. Transport Duardin allows eligible infantry units to embark, move with the vessel and deploy within 6 inches after it finishes moving. Transported units cannot charge that turn, so the vessel is primarily a positioning tool on the arrival turn; plan the charge for a later turn unless another rule changes that restriction.
Turn the anvil into a shooting target
Hammer and Anvil gives a non-matching-faction unit Crit (2 Hits) against an enemy engaged by the anvil for the rest of the turn. In practice, the Khazalite unit pins or contacts the target while the Kharadron partner supplies the ranged hammer. Keep both units close enough for Stone and Sky, then use Hammer and Anvil in the turn when the enemy is already engaged and the Kharadron unit can exploit the improved critical-hit effect.
A safe Throngankor purchase sequence
- Choose Valayan Guardians or Clanshields as the Khazalite anvil.
- Select one non-HERO Kharadron infantry unit that can remain within half an inch of that anvil.
- Add a Kharadron Skyvessel only after confirming the infantry unit is eligible for Transport Duardin.
- Practice the embark, move and deployment sequence, remembering that transported units cannot charge on the turn they deploy.
- Expand with additional units only when they do not pull either Stone and Sky partner away from the formation’s operating area.
Which Khazalite units are the broadest additions?
| Unit | Primary job | Best formation fit | Why it remains useful |
|---|---|---|---|
| Clanshields | Durable screen and central blocker | Valankrom’s War Throng; Throngankor Alliance | They protect the War Throne in a pure Khazalite force and can act as the Khazalite anvil beside Kharadron infantry. |
| Valayan Guardians | Resilient elite infantry and objective holder | All three, especially Valankrom’s War Throng and Throngankor Alliance | They defend the centre in a War Throng and are the official example of a reinforced anvil arriving from a Kharadron vessel. |
| Gholems of Gazul or Gholems of Valaya | Hard-hitting bodyguard | Valankrom’s War Throng | Games Workshop identifies them as immovable bodyguards for High Kyng Valankrom. |
If you are unsure which Khazalite models to buy first, Clanshields, Valayan Guardians and Gholems cover the screen, anvil and close-combat-support roles across the Khazalite-focused choices. Their exact quantities still depend on the released points and the size of the games you play.

Fyreslayer units that remain legal in the battletome
Games Workshop lists the following Fyreslayer units in Battletome: Khazalite Holds:
- Auric Runefather on Magmadroth
- Auric Runeson on Magmadroth
- Auric Runesmiter on Magmadroth
- Auric Runefather
- Auric Runeson
- Auric Runesmiter
- Auric Flamekeeper
- Grimhold Exile
- Vulkyn Flameseekers
- Auric Hearthguard
- Hearthguard Berzerkers
- Ormyr and Ashtongue
Gotrek Gurnisson is listed as an honourable mention. His inclusion should be checked against the current rules and the event pack you intend to use rather than assumed from the mention alone.
Models moving to Warhammer Legends
Vulkite Berzerkers, Auric Runemaster, Battlesmith, Doomseeker, Grimwrath Berzerker, Magmic Battleforge and Magmic Invocations are moving to Warhammer Legends. Keep those models as collection pieces if you enjoy them, but expect a limited matched-play window and verify the event pack before using them in a list. For a current Fyrd expansion, the safer purchases are Hearthguard Berzerkers, Auric Hearthguard, Vulkyn Flameseekers and a Magmadroth hero because those options are retained in the battletome.

You own only the new Khazalite models
Build toward Valankrom’s War Throng. The order is straightforward: High Kyng Valankrom, one Gholem unit, Clanshields and Valayan Guardians. This gives you the formation’s centrepiece, bodyguard, screen and resilient elite block before you consider optional expansion.
You own a large Fyreslayers army
Use Fyrd of Fyrepeak rather than replacing your collection with Kromdron units. Prioritize the retained units that express its rules: Hearthguard Berzerkers for melee, Auric Hearthguard for ranged pressure, Vulkyn Flameseekers for mobility and a Magmadroth hero for a fast threat. Add support characters after those battlefield jobs are covered.
You own Kharadron Overlords and some Khazalites
Choose Throngankor Alliance. Make sure you have one non-HERO infantry unit from each faction and a Skyvessel if you want to use the transport plan. The collection is successful when those units can remain within half an inch for Stone and Sky; avoid buying isolated units that cannot participate in that pairing.
You want to mix all three duardin identities
Pick one Army of Renown as the organizing rule set instead of buying every unit immediately. A Fyreslayer-heavy collection should begin with Fyrd of Fyrepeak, while a Kharadron-heavy collection should begin with Throngankor. Add other duardin only when they fill a role that the chosen formation actually rewards.
Rules and purchasing checks before your next order
- Confirm the latest battletome and battle profiles for the edition and region in which you will play.
- Check whether your event permits the Army of Renown and any Legends units you plan to use.
- Verify current points before buying duplicate infantry units.
- For Throngankor, confirm that both partner units are non-HERO infantry and can maintain the half-inch distance required by Stone and Sky.
- For Transport Duardin, check the unit’s eligibility and remember that transported units cannot charge on the turn they deploy.
- For Fyrd of Fyrepeak, identify which unit will hunt the Foeseeker HERO and when you will spend each once-per-battle Ur-gold ability.
- For Valankrom’s War Throng, keep enough screening and bodyguard capacity around the War Throne to make the wrongdoer and grudge interactions matter.
Where the evidence is still changing
The Army of Renown previews establish the intended synergies, unit identities and Fyreslayer legality listed above. They do not establish current points, retail availability, regional stock, tournament win rates or a universally optimal unit count. Those details can change with battle profiles, errata and event packs, so treat the formation roles as the stable part of the buying decision and recheck the numerical details immediately before placing an order or submitting a list.
Final recommendation
For a self-contained Khazalite army, buy High Kyng Valankrom, Gholems, Clanshields and Valayan Guardians for Valankrom’s War Throng. For an existing Fyreslayer collection, build Fyrd of Fyrepeak around Hearthguard Berzerkers, Auric Hearthguard, Vulkyn Flameseekers and a Magmadroth hero. For a mixed collection, pair Valayan Guardians or Clanshields with non-HERO Kharadron infantry and a Skyvessel in Throngankor Alliance. That approach spends your next purchase on the formation’s actual engine rather than on units that merely share the duardin keyword.
