The only directly verified replacement for a worn or failed DualSense Edge stick is Sony’s separately sold Stick Module, model CFI-ZSM1. It is a complete removable module, requires no soldering, and Sony says the same module can be fitted on either the left or right side. The module is made for the DualSense Edge wireless controller only.
Hall-effect and TMR modules are often mentioned as possible drift-resistant alternatives, but no specific, currently available drop-in product is verified here. Treat any aftermarket listing as an unconfirmed claim until the seller documents exact Edge compatibility, current stock, sensor type, warranty and installation requirements.
What are the alternatives to a DualSense Edge stick module?
There are three practical paths when an Edge stick feels loose, drifts, or stops responding:
Free tools Windows power users keep installed
One-click scans. No signup required.
- Install Sony’s official CFI-ZSM1 Stick Module. This is the only option with direct manufacturer documentation for replacing a nonworking Edge module.
- Buy a third-party converted or repaired module. This can be considered only when a vendor explicitly confirms DualSense Edge compatibility and explains whether you are receiving a complete drop-in module or a modified part.
- Use a repair provider for a fault outside the removable module. This is appropriate when the controller has additional damage, the connector or shell is damaged, or a new module does not solve the problem.
The second and third categories are service offers rather than one universally compatible product. A third-party article updated September 27, 2026 discussed Hall-effect/TMR possibilities, but it did not establish a particular compatible model, seller, stock position or repair program. There is therefore no verified aftermarket recommendation to name.

Option comparison
| Option | DualSense Edge compatibility | What you receive | Opening or soldering | Evidence status |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Sony CFI-ZSM1 Stick Module | Confirmed for DualSense Edge only | One removable stick module; the UK package also lists a standard cap and user manual | User swap; no soldering or separate repair tool documented | Verified by Sony support and product listings |
| Third-party converted or repaired module | Must be confirmed for the Edge by the individual vendor | May be a complete module or a modification service; listing must say which | Varies; may require sending a module or opening it | Not verified as a specific product |
| General controller repair | Depends on the provider and the fault | Diagnosis and repair rather than a guaranteed replacement module | Provider handles disassembly; terms vary | No named provider or price verified |
When comparing an offer, check confirmed Edge compatibility, whether both left and right positions are supported, sensor technology only when substantiated, total price in your region, warranty and returns, turnaround time, and whether you must ship your controller or module. Do not assume a part made for another DualSense model will fit the Edge.
Can I replace a worn DualSense Edge stick myself?
Yes. Sony describes the Edge module as user-replaceable. The procedure is a mechanical swap: power down the controller, remove the front cover, release the old module, slide in the new one until it clicks, lock the lever and refit the cover. No soldering is required.
Before you start
- Use a replacement identified specifically as the DualSense Edge Stick Module, model CFI-ZSM1, or obtain written confirmation of compatibility for any third-party part.
- Make sure the controller is powered off and its player indicator is not lit.
- Disconnect the USB cable before opening the controller.
- Work on a clean, dry surface so the module and connector are not contaminated.
- Keep the original cap if you want to reuse it. The UK package description for CFI-ZSM1 lists one module with a standard cap and a user manual.
Official replacement procedure
- Power off the controller. Confirm that the player indicator is off. Do not perform the swap while the controller is connected and active.
- Disconnect USB. Remove the USB cable from the controller.
- Release the front cover. Turn the controller over and use the rear RELEASE latch as Sony’s instructions show. Lift the cover away rather than forcing the edges.
- Raise the module release lever. The lever locks the module in its guide. Lift it fully before attempting to slide the module out.
- Remove the old module. Slide it along the controller’s grooves and out of the housing. Pull in the direction of the guides; do not twist the module against the connector.
- Insert the replacement. Align the module with the grooves and slide it in until it clicks into place.
- Lower the lever. Return the release lever to its locked position so the module is secured.
- Refit the cover. Seat the front cover and close it until it is properly latched.
- Test before reinstalling accessories. Reconnect the controller, check both stick axes, press the stick buttons, and verify that the cap is seated and moves freely.
If the module will not slide smoothly, stop and realign the grooves. Resistance, a missing click or a lever that will not close indicates that the module is not fully seated; forcing the lever can damage the housing.

What the swap does not repair
A replacement module addresses a fault contained in the removable stick assembly. It cannot correct every controller problem. Persistent symptoms after a correctly installed new module can point to the controller-side connector, firmware or calibration state, liquid or impact damage, a damaged cap, or another internal fault. At that point, repeated module swaps are unlikely to help and a qualified repair assessment is more sensible.

Are left and right Edge stick modules the same?
Yes. Sony states that left and right stick modules are interchangeable and can be attached to either side. You do not need to buy a separately labeled left module and right module for the official replacement.
Compatibility checks that still matter
- Controller model: The official module is for the DualSense Edge wireless controller only. It is not documented as a replacement for other controllers.
- Part identification: The UK listing identifies the official module as CFI-ZSM1. Match the model number on the retailer’s listing and packaging.
- Package contents: The UK listing describes one module with a standard cap and a user manual, not a pair of modules.
- Position: The same official module can be installed on the left or right position.
- Regional listing: Packaging, stock and price can differ by country, so use the retailer serving your region.
A listing that says only “DualSense replacement,” “PS5 stick,” or “left/right joystick” is not enough evidence. Ask the seller to confirm the Edge’s removable-module design and the exact CFI-ZSM1 fit before ordering.
Is there a Hall-effect stick module for DualSense Edge?
No specific Hall-effect or TMR drop-in module is verified by the available manufacturer evidence. Hall-effect and TMR sensors measure position without the same physical contact arrangement used by many conventional joystick sensors, which is why sellers often market them as a way to reduce wear-related drift. That general sensor description does not prove that a particular board fits the Edge’s removable housing, connector, firmware and calibration system.

- Require the exact model. The offer should identify a DualSense Edge-compatible module, not merely a generic Hall-effect joystick or a part for a standard DualSense controller.
- Confirm the form of the product. Determine whether it is a complete module that slides into the Edge, a replacement circuit board, a conversion performed by the seller, or a repair service.
- Ask who performs the work. A board-level conversion may require opening the module and soldering. That is materially different from Sony’s tool-free module swap.
- Check calibration instructions. A sensor change can require software calibration, a controller update or a specific dead-zone procedure. Do not assume the Edge will recognize every modified board automatically.
- Get written warranty and return terms. Confirm coverage for drift, intermittent inputs, centering errors and installation damage, and identify who pays shipping.
- Verify current stock and region. A page can describe a concept or an old service without offering a unit for sale where you live.
Do not buy solely because a listing uses “Hall,” “TMR,” “anti-drift” or “drift-proof.” Those labels describe a claimed sensor approach, not proven Edge compatibility or permanent immunity to every cause of inaccurate input.

What does the official CFI-ZSM1 module cost and include?
The UK PlayStation listing captured for this guide showed £19.99 for the module. That is a UK listing price at the time it was indexed, not a guaranteed current or worldwide price. Check the relevant regional PlayStation retailer immediately before ordering because price, tax, stock and delivery can change.
| Detail | Official listing information |
|---|---|
| Model | CFI-ZSM1 |
| Compatibility | DualSense Edge wireless controller only |
| Interchangeability | One module can attach to either the left or right side |
| UK package | One stick module, standard cap and user manual |
| Indexed UK price | £19.99; verify the current regional price |
The listing describes a single module, so replacing both sides requires two units. The official documentation does not establish a separate left/right SKU for this part.
How to tell whether the module or the controller is faulty
Start with simple observations before ordering parts. Drift on one axis, a stick that intermittently stops responding, or a stick-button problem isolated to one side is consistent with a module fault, but symptoms alone cannot prove it.

Useful checks
- Test the affected stick in a game and in the console’s controller settings, if available, to see whether the input is consistently off-center or intermittent.
- Try the other stick and its button. A problem confined to one position makes a localized module issue more plausible than a controller-wide failure.
- Inspect the cap and housing for cracks, obstruction or physical impact. A damaged cap can feel wrong even when the sensor is functioning.
- Reseat the existing module using Sony’s release lever procedure. If symptoms change after reseating, poor seating or contamination may be involved.
- If a correctly installed replacement shows the same fault, stop buying modules and seek diagnosis for the controller-side connector or other electronics.
These checks are triage, not a substitute for electrical testing. Never spray liquid or contact cleaner into the controller, and do not force a lever or connector.

When is a repair service better than a replacement module?
Choose professional repair when the controller has been dropped, exposed to liquid, shows multiple unrelated input failures, has a damaged cover or release mechanism, or continues to malfunction with a known-good module. A provider may also be preferable if you are not comfortable opening the cover or if an aftermarket conversion requires soldering.
Questions to ask a provider
- Do you accept DualSense Edge controllers specifically, rather than standard DualSense models?
- Will you replace the removable module, repair its electronics, or diagnose the controller motherboard?
- What exact sensor or part will be installed?
- Is calibration included, and how will the result be tested?
- What warranty covers drift, dead zones and intermittent inputs?
- Who pays return shipping if the fault remains?
No universal repair price or named provider is established here. Obtain a written quote and diagnosis before authorizing work, especially when the cost approaches that of replacing the controller or buying an official module.

Buying a standard DualSense joystick
A conventional joystick part for another controller is not automatically compatible with the Edge’s removable module system. Fix: require explicit DualSense Edge compatibility and, for the official part, model CFI-ZSM1.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsAssuming “left” and “right” require different official modules
Sony says the official left and right modules are interchangeable. Fix: buy the single module you need and install it on either side.

Expecting a Hall-effect claim to guarantee no drift
Sensor technology does not prove fit, calibration, quality or resistance to every mechanical problem. Fix: request product-specific evidence, warranty terms and return protection.
Forcing the release lever
The lever should close only after the module is fully aligned and seated. Fix: remove the module, inspect the grooves and reinsert it squarely until the click is clear.
Ordering from a stale or regional listing
Price and stock change, and the package may contain one module rather than two. Fix: verify the regional listing, quantity, model number and current total before payment.
Recommended decision path
- Confirm the controller is a DualSense Edge. If it is another model, this module guidance does not establish compatibility.
- Check the simple physical causes. Inspect the cap, power down, disconnect USB and reseat the module.
- For a module-local fault, choose CFI-ZSM1. It is the only directly verified drop-in replacement and works on either side.
- Consider aftermarket work only with written proof. Confirm the exact Edge fit, whether the offer is a complete module or service, sensor claims, calibration, warranty and stock.
- Escalate broader faults. If a known-good module does not restore operation, seek diagnosis for the controller rather than repeatedly replacing modules.
For most owners with one worn or nonworking stick, the official CFI-ZSM1 is the straightforward choice: it is designed for the Edge, interchangeable between sides and replaceable through Sony’s documented user procedure. An aftermarket Hall-effect or TMR option should be treated as experimental until a seller supplies verifiable, product-specific compatibility evidence.
