Start by selecting Prioritize Performance in the game’s Graphics Quality options and using its upscaler. Capcom recommends lowering graphics settings when Dragon’s Dogma 2 runs slowly; Steam lists an upscaled 1080p target of 45–60 FPS with Prioritize Performance selected, but that is a published target—not a promise for every PC or scene.
Which settings should you change first?
In the game’s graphics options, choose Prioritize Performance for Graphics Quality. This is the clearest official starting point for improving frame rate: Capcom advises lowering in-game graphics settings if performance is slow. Steam’s listing associates this option with 1080p gameplay using an upscaler and a stated 45–60 FPS target.

That figure is a store-published target, not a benchmark result for your hardware or a guarantee that demanding scenes will hold that range. Your CPU, graphics card, memory, resolution, and what is happening on screen all affect the result. If performance remains poor, lower graphics quality further and compare how the game runs.
How should you choose between performance, image detail, and upscaling?
Use the options as tradeoffs rather than assuming one exact preset is best for every PC:
#1 Best Overall
- 11GB GDDR6
- CUDA Cores: 4352
- Display Connectors: DisplayPort, HDMI, USB Type-C
- Maximum Digital Resolution: 7680x4320
- Performance versus detail: Lower graphics quality can improve frame rate, at the cost of visual detail. Start with the overall quality choice; the available evidence does not establish an optimal value for individual settings such as shadows, textures, mesh quality, or ambient occlusion.
- Native rendering versus upscaled output: Upscaling renders the game at a lower internal resolution and reconstructs the image for display. Steam’s stated performance target specifically uses an upscaler at 1080p output. If you prefer a sharper native-resolution image, try it and compare frame rate on your own system.
- Ray tracing on versus off: Ray tracing adds visual effects but can increase graphics workload. Capcom’s FAQ identifies an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2080 Ti or AMD Radeon RX 6800 as necessary for ray-tracing features; that threshold does not mean ray tracing is a good choice when your priority is higher FPS.
There is no verified, universal set of exact graphics values for the current PC build in the cited sources. Treat setting-by-setting recommendations as provisional unless they are based on controlled testing with your hardware and game version.
Can DLSS Frame Generation improve performance?
Capcom’s May 30, 2024 Steam update announcement added DLSS Frame Generation to the Graphics options. The announcement confirms the feature’s addition but does not quantify an FPS gain or establish its current behavior across all supported hardware. If the option is available on your system, you can compare it with the feature on and off; do not assume a specific uplift.

What if the game runs very slowly or will not start?
Capcom warns that graphics settings beyond a PC’s capabilities can prevent the game from running properly. If lowering settings does not resolve the problem—or the game will not launch—Capcom’s support FAQ provides a configuration reset procedure. This restores defaults; it is troubleshooting, not an FPS optimization.
- Open the Dragon’s Dogma 2 configuration folder:
<Steam folder>/steamapps/compatdata/2054970/pfx/for Steam Deck, or%LOCALAPPDATA%/CAPCOM/DRAGONS DOGMA 2/for Windows. - Rename
config.inito keep a copy of the existing settings. - Copy
config_default.iniand rename the copy toconfig.ini. - Start the game and check whether it runs properly. If needed, lower its graphics settings again.
Folder locations and steps are from Capcom’s Steam FAQ; the reset procedure replaces the active configuration with the default file.
