For a compact streaming stick with Paramount+ premium-video support, the Roku Streaming Stick 4K is a strong compatibility-based pick. Paramount+ names that exact model in its premium-format support list, and Roku says it supports 4K, Dolby Vision and HDR10+. The Amazon Fire TV Stick 4K is another model Paramount+ lists. Neither listing establishes which device performs better in everyday use, so choose based on your TV, the formats you want, and the interface you prefer.
What makes a device suitable for Paramount+?
Compatibility depends on more than whether the Paramount+ app is available. To watch a title in a premium format, the service plan, specific program, streaming device, television and connection must all support the format. Paramount+ says Premium subscribers can watch select programming in 4K UHD, HDR10, Dolby Vision or Dolby Atmos, depending on internet service and device capabilities. The feature is not guaranteed for every title or market. Paramount+ explains its plan and format conditions here.
Paramount+ is available on several device families, including Roku, Fire TV, Apple TV and Chromecast. That broad availability does not mean every model in a family supports every premium feature. Check the exact model against Paramount+’s premium video device list before buying.
Which streaming devices are listed for Paramount+ premium video?
| Device | Named by Paramount+ for premium video? | Relevant hardware format support |
|---|---|---|
| Roku Streaming Stick 4K | Yes | Roku lists 4K, Dolby Vision and HDR10+ support. |
| Amazon Fire TV Stick 4K | Yes | Not stated in the cited Paramount+ device-list information. |
| Roku Express 4K, Roku Ultra LT, Roku Ultra | Yes | Not stated in the cited Paramount+ device-list information. |
| Apple TV 4K (1st, 2nd and 3rd generation) | Yes | Not stated in the cited Paramount+ device-list information. |
| Google TV Streamer (4K) | Not named in the retrieved Paramount+ premium-video list | Google lists 4K, Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos support; that does not establish Paramount+ app-specific premium support. |
Paramount+’s device list also notes that some Sony Bravia 4K models do not currently support Dolby Vision in the Paramount+ app. The list can change, so confirm your precise device model and the specific format you expect to use.

Why choose the Roku Streaming Stick 4K?
It is a straightforward option when you want a compact stick and your priority is a model explicitly named by Paramount+ for premium video. Roku says the stick supports “4K picture quality” with Dolby Vision and HDR10+; use of those formats still requires compatible content and a compatible television. See Roku’s Streaming Stick 4K specifications for the manufacturer’s details.
This is a compatibility recommendation, not a claim that Roku is faster, more reliable or better-looking than competing devices. The available information does not establish comparative app performance or independent speed results. If you already own a compatible device, its interface and ecosystem suit you, and it appears on Paramount+’s current list, there may be no reason to buy another stick.

When is the Fire TV Stick 4K a better fit?
Paramount+ also names the Amazon Fire TV Stick 4K in its premium-video device list, making it a relevant alternative if you prefer the Fire TV interface or already use that ecosystem. The cited information does not settle a performance or value comparison between it and Roku. Check the exact Fire TV model and the format support you need rather than assuming all generations have identical capabilities.

What do you need for 4K, Dolby Vision or Atmos?
- An eligible plan in your market: Paramount+ ties premium formats to its Premium plan in the markets covered by its support guidance. Plan names and availability vary by market.
- A title offered in the format: The allowance is for select programming, not the whole catalog. Check the title’s format information in the app.
- A compatible streaming device and app: Confirm the exact model appears on Paramount+’s current list for the format you want.
- A compatible television and connection: The TV must support the target display format, and the HDMI setup must pass it. Dolby Atmos also depends on compatible audio equipment and the title.
- A suitable internet connection: Paramount+ says format availability depends partly on internet service; the cited guidance does not provide a universal speed threshold.
How to choose between the Roku and Fire TV options
- Check your television. Identify whether it supports 4K, HDR10, HDR10+ or Dolby Vision. A device cannot make an incompatible display show a format it does not support.
- Pick the format that matters to you. If you want Dolby Vision, verify support across the exact streaming device, TV and title. If HDR10+ is your priority, Roku specifies that format for the Streaming Stick 4K, but the TV and content must also support it.
- Confirm the device model on Paramount+’s list. Do not rely on a family name alone; model generations and app support can differ.
- Check your plan and the title. Make sure Premium is available to you and that the specific program offers the format you want.
- Choose the interface you prefer. If both devices meet your format requirements, preference for Roku or Fire TV—and whether you already own one—can decide the purchase.
Why isn’t Paramount+ playing in 4K or HDR?
- The title may not offer the format. Premium formats apply to select content, so check that program’s details.
- Your plan or market may not qualify. Plan features and availability are market-specific; consult Paramount+’s local plan information.
- A device or TV may not support the target format. Check the exact model and distinguish Dolby Vision from HDR10 or HDR10+. Support for one does not guarantee support for another.
- The HDMI cable or connection may be the issue. Roku says an older HDMI cable can contribute to a black screen, poor performance or degraded 4K HDR output. For compatible Roku setups, it advises trying a Premium High Speed HDMI or Ultra High Speed HDMI cable. See Roku’s 4K HDR and Dolby Vision troubleshooting guidance.
- Internet service can affect format availability. Paramount+ identifies internet service as one factor in premium playback; its cited guidance does not set a single speed requirement for every setup.
