Start with Deep Stone Crypt. It is the closest Destiny 2 match for Wrath of the Machine’s industrial machinery, Fallen-adjacent science-fiction mood and high-stakes technology. Choose King’s Fall for classic Destiny spectacle and a returning D1-era threat, Vault of Glass for the most direct historical callback, Vow of the Disciple for denser communication, or Salvation’s Edge for a modern difficulty jump. These are editorial matches by atmosphere, teamwork and narrative—not an official Bungie similarity ranking.
What made Wrath of the Machine distinctive?
Wrath of the Machine was the Year 3 raid released with Rise of Iron in Destiny in 2016. Its appeal was not just that it was a six-player endgame activity. The raid made machinery, improvised Fallen technology and escalating mechanical disasters part of nearly every encounter. Players moved through a hostile industrial environment, learned jobs that were easy to describe but demanding to execute, and watched a contained story grow into a large set piece.
That combination creates several different kinds of nostalgia. You may miss the visual language of engines, factories and scavenged technology; the feeling that each player has a clear job; the dramatic scale of a classic D1 raid; or the social rhythm of teaching callouts to a returning fireteam. No current Destiny 2 raid reproduces every part of Wrath, so the useful question is which part you want back.

The “best” labels in this table are recommendations, not claims that Bungie has designated any raid as a replacement for Wrath of the Machine.
1. Deep Stone Crypt: the closest overall substitute
Deep Stone Crypt is the first raid to try when what you miss is Wrath’s machinery and science-fiction atmosphere. Its setting is built around enormous industrial systems and Bray-era technology, while its story remains closely connected to the Fallen and to the consequences of human-made machines. That gives it the strongest overall emotional overlap with Wrath, even though the locations, encounters and narrative are different.
Why it fits
- Industrial mood: Large mechanical spaces make the environment feel like an active facility rather than a ceremonial arena.
- Fallen-linked science fiction: The technology and enemy context preserve the scavenged, dangerous engineering tone that many players associate with Wrath.
- Readable teamwork: Encounters introduce distinct jobs and repeat them under pressure, making the raid suitable for a group rebuilding its communication habits.
Who should choose it
Pick Deep Stone Crypt if your mental image of Wrath is engines, alarms, metal walkways and a fireteam solving a machine failure while everything gets worse. It is not a one-for-one remake: the story, arena layouts and exact mechanics differ, and its similarity is an editorial judgment about feeling rather than a measurable Bungie category.

King’s Fall is the better answer when “I miss Wrath” really means “I miss the scale and drama of D1 raids.” Bungie’s returning-player material presents it as the raid in which Guardians take the fight to Oryx, and Bungie’s franchise history places its Destiny 2 return in Year 5. Its identity is Hive ritual and throne-world grandeur, not industrial Fallen machinery, but its story stakes and set pieces deliver the kind of historical weight a returning D1 player may want.

What you gain
- Recognizable history: A returning D1 raid provides a direct bridge to earlier Destiny memories without asking you to learn an entirely new premise.
- Large-scale encounters: The raid repeatedly turns individual jobs into a spectacle involving a major antagonist.
- Strong narrative payoff: The journey feels like a confrontation with a central figure, rather than a self-contained facility incident.
Choose King’s Fall over Deep Stone Crypt if the enemy faction matters less to you than the feeling of participating in a famous Destiny chapter with a clear villain and a dramatic conclusion.
3. Vault of Glass: the most direct foundational callback
Vault of Glass is the most direct bridge to early Destiny raiding. Bungie describes it as a reprisal of the raid that started the series for many players, and it remains on the current Destiny 2 raid list. That makes it the strongest nostalgia recommendation when what you remember is learning the original raid language: assigning jobs, defending a position, surviving a timed sequence and steadily progressing toward a final boss.
Why it is not a literal Wrath match
Vault of Glass uses Vex architecture and a time-themed setting, not Wrath’s industrial Fallen environment. Its value is historical continuity. You are revisiting the foundational raid template rather than matching the same atmosphere or enemy faction. For a returning D1 player who wants a familiar landmark before tackling newer mechanics, that distinction is an advantage.
4. Vow of the Disciple: choose it for denser communication
Vow of the Disciple is the recommendation for players who remember Wrath as a raid where every person had to pay attention and call out information quickly. Its communication load is heavier: teams work with symbols, timing and role handoffs that punish vague terminology. The setting and enemy identity are unlike Wrath, but the social experience can feel familiar if your favorite part was the six-person problem-solving rather than the metal-and-machinery scenery.

Prepare for a steeper teaching curve
- Agree on short, unambiguous names for every symbol before the first serious attempt.
- Decide who is responsible for reading, carrying, clearing and timing tasks; do not assume players will infer jobs during a pull.
- Use the same callout vocabulary for the whole session. Changing names halfway through creates avoidable wipes.
Vow is a good next step for an experienced group that wants Wrath-like role accountability with more information to process. It is not the best first raid for a group that has forgotten basic raid communication.
5. Salvation’s Edge: the modern difficulty jump
Salvation’s Edge is for experienced raiders who want a demanding contemporary coordination test. Bungie records it as the Year 7 raid and lists it among current activities. It is not a close aesthetic substitute for Wrath; its recommendation rests on challenge and modern encounter design.
When to pick it
Choose Salvation’s Edge after your fireteam is comfortable assigning roles, preserving a consistent callout language and learning several encounters in one sitting. If your group mainly wants the old industrial mood, Deep Stone Crypt will satisfy that desire more directly. If you want to discover how far Destiny 2’s raid coordination has developed, Salvation’s Edge is the more appropriate destination.

Other raids worth considering
Crota’s End
Crota’s End is another valid D1-era nostalgia choice. Select it when the historical connection matters more than matching Wrath’s machinery. It gives a returning player a familiar legacy raid while still being part of Destiny 2’s current activity pool.

Last Wish
Last Wish suits players who want the biggest, most elaborate adventure among the alternatives. Its Dreaming City setting and extended sequence of encounters make it a choice for groups that enjoy a long-form raid journey rather than a compact industrial scenario.
Garden of Salvation
Garden of Salvation is the natural pick for Vex architecture and puzzle-focused mechanics. It does not preserve Wrath’s Fallen identity, but it rewards teams that like learning a system, practicing movement and coordinating repeated connections.
Root of Nightmares and The Desert Perpetual
These are current options for players who prioritize newer content over historical similarity. They should be selected because you want a recent raid experience, not because their atmosphere is an obvious continuation of Wrath.
How to choose the right raid for your group
Use the following decision process before you assemble a team. It prevents a common mistake: choosing a raid for its reputation and then discovering that it does not provide the part of Wrath you actually miss.
Best Value

- 【Reduce Safety Risks】Cable tray under desk keeps all plugs away from your kids, no more worry about tripping. Using 2 holes wire tray saves extra space, helps you easily cabling and wire protection. The mesh design is not easy to accumulate dust, but avoids safety accidents caused by messy wires.
- Name the missing ingredient. Is it industrial scenery, Fallen technology, a D1-era story, clear jobs, dense callouts or a hard modern test?
- Match the ingredient to a raid. Use Deep Stone Crypt for machinery and Fallen-linked science fiction; King’s Fall for spectacle; Vault of Glass for foundational nostalgia; Vow for communication density; Salvation’s Edge for difficulty.
- Check the current listing. Confirm that the raid appears in the current Director and that your account has the required expansion or entitlement. The available list and access rules can change.
- Set a realistic session goal. A returning group may need one evening to relearn movement, damage phases and callouts before a clear is realistic.
- Choose a fireteam that can communicate. Raids are designed for up to six players and rely heavily on teamwork, complex mechanics, tough enemies and bosses. A complete group with reliable voice communication is more useful than a larger pool of silent substitutes.
Practical preparation for a returning D1 player
Build the communication plan first
Before launching, agree on who is leading the explanation, which words identify locations or symbols, and how the team announces a failure. A simple format—player, action, destination, timing—keeps calls short. For example, “left runner, plate two, now” is more useful than a long description during an active mechanic.
Expect a learning session, not an instant nostalgia trip
Destiny 2 raids are high-level activities with mechanics that are substantially more involved than a normal strike. Plan time for a teaching run, especially for Vow of the Disciple or Salvation’s Edge. Let new or returning players practice a single job repeatedly before rotating roles. This builds a shared mental model faster than changing assignments after every wipe.
Prepare for encounter-specific failure
- People are lost: Pause and map the room using a fixed set of names.
- Callouts overlap: Appoint one information caller for each mechanic instead of having six players speak at once.
- Damage fails: Check survivability, weapon compatibility and timing before blaming the mechanic. A clean execution can still fail if the damage window is missed.
- The group stalls: Return to the last mechanic everyone understands, then add one new responsibility at a time.
Access, loot and changing raid rotations
Current availability is not permanent. Bungie’s Activities page lists the raids available at the time of publication, but the Director, featured rotations and reward structures can be revised. Verify the raid’s current listing and your entitlement in-game before scheduling a group.

The practical implication is simple: choose the raid for its atmosphere and teamwork first, then confirm the current loot incentive. A featured rotation can make a raid more efficient to farm, but it does not turn an unsuitable raid into the right nostalgia match.
A quick recommendation by player type
| If you miss… | Play first | Reason |
|---|---|---|
| Factories, engines and Fallen technology | Deep Stone Crypt | Closest overall atmosphere and science-fiction feeling |
| The scale of a famous D1 raid | King’s Fall | Major villain, historical context and spectacle |
| The original Destiny raid experience | Vault of Glass | Direct reprisal of the foundational raid |
| Everyone having a crucial job | Vow of the Disciple | High communication and symbol coordination |
| A demanding modern clear | Salvation’s Edge | Contemporary difficulty and coordination demands |
| Another D1-era memory | Crota’s End | Historical continuity without requiring a Wrath-like setting |
Final recommendation
Start with Deep Stone Crypt if you want the nearest overall feeling to Wrath of the Machine. Move to King’s Fall or Vault of Glass when the important part is returning to Destiny’s raid history. Choose Vow of the Disciple when role discipline and callouts are the memory you are chasing, and save Salvation’s Edge for a group that wants a modern, demanding test. The best substitute depends on the specific part of Wrath you miss; no current Destiny 2 raid reproduces all of its atmosphere, history and encounter rhythm at once.
