There is no single best Deadlock setup for every PC. Start with the profile that matches your priority—competitive clarity, a balanced presentation, or maximum image quality—then change one or two options while watching smoothness, target visibility, and input comfort in real matches. The settings below are practical starting points, not universal benchmarks: Deadlock’s official PC requirements are still listed without specified values, and the available graphics recommendations are community configurations rather than controlled tests.

Quick recommendation: choose a starting profile

Use the table as a baseline, not a promise of a particular frame rate. The three configurations come from a community settings guide that listed them in August 2026. That guide explicitly notes that results vary by game and PC, and its rationales are editorial judgments rather than measured Deadlock benchmarks.

Setting PvP starting point Balanced starting point Visual-quality starting point
Display mode Fullscreen Borderless fullscreen Borderless fullscreen
Ambient occlusion Off Off On
Anti-aliasing quality Low Low Medium
Resolution scale 100 100 100
Texture quality Medium High High
Effects quality Low Medium Epic
Frame-rate limit Uncapped 144 FPS 144 FPS
Shadow quality Low Medium Epic
V-Sync Off Off Off
Foliage quality Low Medium Epic
Motion blur Off Off Off
Post-process quality Low Medium Epic
View distance quality Medium High Epic

Pick PvP when clarity and headroom come first

The PvP profile cuts effects, shadows, foliage, and post-processing to Low, uses Fullscreen, keeps textures at Medium, and leaves view distance at Medium. Its goal is a cleaner scene with fewer distracting details and more performance headroom. The community settings guide specifically infers the Low foliage choice from the general aim of reducing visual clutter; it does not provide a measured FPS gain. Keep resolution scale at 100 rather than lowering it immediately, because reducing internal resolution can make characters and ability effects harder to read.

Pick Balanced for a sensible first launch

Balanced uses Borderless fullscreen, Low anti-aliasing, High textures and view distance, Medium effects, shadows, foliage, and post-processing, plus a 144 FPS cap. It preserves texture detail while avoiding the heaviest visual options. Treat 144 FPS as a profile value, not a target that every system can reach. If your display refreshes more slowly or your PC cannot sustain that rate, choose a limit appropriate to the refresh rate and the frame rate you can hold consistently.

Pick Visual Quality when image detail is the priority

The visual-quality profile raises textures and most scene-detail controls to High or Epic, turns ambient occlusion On, and uses a 144 FPS cap. It is intended for players who prefer richer lighting, foliage, shadows, effects, post-processing, and distant detail. If fights become uneven or targets are obscured, lower the expensive options selectively instead of abandoning 100 resolution scale first.

How to tune Deadlock for your own PC

Because Steam Support currently shows Deadlock’s processor, graphics, operating-system, and sound-card requirements as not specified, there is no verified minimum GPU or universal performance tier from which to derive a guaranteed preset. Deadlock is also still in development, so a patch can alter performance or move a setting.

  1. Apply one profile. Start with PvP, Balanced, or Visual Quality rather than changing every control randomly.
  2. Play the situations that expose problems. Check a busy lane, a team fight with several effects, movement through foliage, and a long sightline. A quiet menu or empty area is not a useful performance test.
  3. Change only one or two options. If the image is busy or frame delivery feels uneven, reduce effects, shadows, foliage, and post-processing first. If distant targets are difficult to identify, review view distance and anti-aliasing before reducing resolution scale.
  4. Judge consistency, not a peak number. A lower but steady result can feel better than a high counter that fluctuates during fights. These profiles do not establish a guaranteed FPS improvement for any individual option.
  5. Keep a reversible baseline. Note the original values or use the game’s shareable settings-code feature when available, so you can restore a known configuration after experimenting.

What each graphics control is doing in the decision

  • Display mode: Fullscreen is the PvP profile’s choice; Borderless fullscreen is used by the other two. Choose the mode that behaves correctly with your desktop, overlays, and monitor rather than assuming one is universally faster.
  • Ambient occlusion: Off in PvP and Balanced, On for Visual Quality. It changes shading around surfaces and contact areas; the visual-quality profile accepts that extra processing for depth.
  • Anti-aliasing quality: Low in PvP and Balanced, Medium in Visual Quality. Increase it only if edge shimmer is bothersome and the resulting image remains clear in motion.
  • Resolution scale: All three profiles retain 100. Lowering it can create additional headroom, but it also reduces internal image detail, so test it only after deciding that clarity can be sacrificed.
  • Texture quality: Medium for PvP and High for the other profiles. Texture quality affects surface detail more than scene geometry; the profiles preserve it more aggressively than effects and shadows in the competitive configuration.
  • Effects quality: Low, Medium, or Epic across the profiles. This is one of the first places to look when ability-heavy fights feel difficult to render, although the community settings guide does not quantify the gain.
  • Frame-rate limit: PvP is Uncapped; Balanced and Visual Quality use 144 FPS. An uncapped mode can produce a higher peak where hardware allows it, while a cap can make behavior more predictable. Select based on the refresh rate and sustained output your system actually delivers.
  • Shadow quality: Low, Medium, or Epic. Lower values reduce shadow detail and can make scenes less visually dense; higher values support the image-quality goal.
  • V-Sync: Off in every profile. That is a commonality of these recommendations, not proof that it is optimal for every monitor or player. If you see objectionable tearing, evaluate your display and frame-limit choices rather than treating the profile as a rule.
  • Foliage quality: Low, Medium, or Epic. Lower foliage follows the PvP profile’s visual-clutter rationale; higher foliage belongs to the image-quality profile.
  • Motion blur: Off in every profile. Players who prefer a cinematic look can test it, but the supplied starting points prioritize a stable, readable image during movement.
  • Post-process quality: Low, Medium, or Epic. Lower values are part of the performance-oriented profile; higher values support the richer presentation profile.
  • View distance quality: Medium in PvP, High in Balanced, and Epic in Visual Quality. The community settings guide specifically warns that view-distance guidance is uncertain, so verify distant target readability in actual lanes rather than assuming Epic is always advantageous.

What are the best graphics settings for competitive FPS games?

For a competitive Deadlock starting point, use the PvP column: Fullscreen, Low ambient occlusion, Low anti-aliasing, 100 resolution scale, Medium textures, Low effects, Uncapped frame rate, Low shadows, V-Sync Off, Low foliage, Motion blur Off, Low post-processing, and Medium view distance. That combination is a recommendation for reducing clutter and preserving headroom, not a laboratory-tested competitive standard.

Do not lower every setting automatically. Keeping resolution scale at 100 and textures at Medium can preserve target definition while the more visually busy controls are reduced. If the scene remains smooth, raise one control at a time—often textures first for image detail, or view distance if distant information is the issue—and reassess in a real match.

Deadlock default controls and keybinds

The controls guide updated October 6, 2026 and checked against the October 5 patch lists these defaults. Deadlock allows all keys to be changed under Settings → Hotkeys.

Action Default key
Move W, A, S, D
Jump / double jump / wall jump Space
Dash Left Shift
Crouch / slide Left Ctrl
Fire Left Mouse Button
Zoom / aim down sights Right Mouse Button
Reload R
Melee Q (tap for light, hold for heavy)
Parry F
Abilities 1–3 1, 2, 3
Ultimate 4
Active items Z, X, C, V
Shop B
Scoreboard Tab
Extra info / quick upgrade Left Alt; hold and press 1–4

How melee, parry, and quick upgrades work on the default layout

Tap Q for a light melee attack and hold Q for a heavy melee attack. Parry is F by default and, according to the guide, blocks melee attacks only. To spend an ability point quickly, hold Left Alt and press the number for the ability, 1 through 4. These descriptions come from the October 2026 controls guide; confirm behavior after patches because Deadlock remains in development.

How to rebind controls without losing movement access

Open Settings → Hotkeys, select the action, and assign a key that you can press without releasing movement or aim. The right answer depends on hand size, keyboard position, mouse shape, and whether you use a mouse with programmable side buttons.

Option: move melee to Mouse 4 or Mouse 5

The controls guide suggests trying a side button for melee. This can leave your movement fingers on WASD while you tap or hold for light and heavy attacks. It is an option, not a requirement, and it does not justify buying new hardware if Q is comfortable for you.

Option: reserve the other side button for a frequent active item

If you use a particular escape or save item often, assigning it to the remaining mouse side button may reduce hand travel. The useful item varies by hero and build, so treat this as a role-specific convenience rather than a universal best bind.

Option: relocate abilities that are awkward on 1–4

Number keys can be uncomfortable to reach while holding movement. Move abilities to accessible keyboard keys or mouse inputs if that improves consistency. If you move an ability, check whether R for reload or another nearby action now conflicts with your preferred hand position; a comfortable layout is a complete system, not one isolated reassignment.

Use the sandbox to validate a layout

  1. Open the sandbox after saving the new hotkeys.
  2. Run movement sequences using jump, double jump, wall jump, dash, and crouch/slide.
  3. Tap and hold the melee key to verify that light and heavy attacks are distinct.
  4. Practice parry timing and fire each ability.
  5. Activate the items you expect to use in a fight.
  6. Restore or adjust any bind that causes missed movement, accidental activation, or uncomfortable finger stretching.

This process checks your own comfort and muscle memory; it is not evidence that one layout is objectively faster.

Accessibility and shared-PC settings

Valve’s official Deadlock site search result describes dedicated visual, audio, and control accessibility settings, shareable settings codes, mouse-wheel binding support for eligible actions, and separate settings for multiple players on one PC. The exact options can change, so inspect the current in-game settings menu rather than relying on an old list. Settings codes can be useful when moving between machines or restoring a profile, while separate player settings matter on a shared computer.

Common problems and targeted fixes

The game feels smooth in quiet areas but uneven in fights

Return to the PvP or Balanced baseline and lower effects, shadows, foliage, and post-processing before touching resolution scale. Recheck a team fight or other effect-heavy situation after each small change. Do not interpret the community profile as a guaranteed FPS solution; it is a direction for testing.

Targets are hard to read at distance

Keep resolution scale at 100 while testing. Compare view distance and anti-aliasing one at a time, and consider whether foliage or post-processing is adding clutter. The community settings guide does not establish a universally correct view-distance value, so judge the result in the lanes and sightlines you actually play.

Borderless fullscreen behaves differently from Fullscreen

Use the display mode that gives you reliable focus changes, overlays, and monitor behavior. The profiles intentionally differ—Fullscreen for PvP and Borderless fullscreen for Balanced and Visual Quality—so neither mode should be presented as universally superior.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

You cannot remember a new keybind

Change fewer keys at once, practice the movement and combat sequence in the sandbox, and keep the settings menu available for verification. A theoretically efficient bind is not useful until it is automatic under pressure.

A patch changed a control or setting

Check the in-game menu and current patch notes before assuming a guide’s table is still exact. The listed defaults were checked against the October 5, 2026 patch, and the controls guide was updated October 6, 2026; all settings and controls are patch-sensitive.

A practical decision framework

Your priority Start with Adjust next What to watch
Competitive clarity and headroom PvP profile Effects, shadows, foliage, post-processing Target visibility during team fights
One general-purpose setup Balanced profile Frame cap, then one visual control at a time Sustained smoothness at your monitor’s refresh rate
Maximum visual detail Visual-quality profile Lower Epic options selectively if fights suffer Image quality versus consistency
Input comfort Default keys Melee, a frequent active item, then awkward ability keys Whether movement fingers stay available
Shared or accessibility-focused play Current in-game accessibility and player settings Shareable code or per-player profile That each player’s controls and visual options are preserved

Revisit the setup after major patches, hardware changes, a monitor refresh-rate change, or a switch in heroes and item usage. The best configuration is the one that keeps important targets readable, delivers consistent performance on your PC, and lets your hands reach required actions without hesitation.
