For most groups, Mario Kart World is the easiest four-player recommendation: everyone can join a race quickly, and Nintendo lists one-system play for up to four people. Choose Super Mario Party Jamboree – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Jamboree TV for the widest party selection, Super Mario Bros. Wonder – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Meetup in Bellabel Park for a shared cooperative platforming campaign, and Kirby Air Riders for fast, skill-focused vehicle battles.
All four support up to four players on one Switch 2. The right purchase depends less on a universal ranking than on whether your group wants short repeatable rounds, a campaign everyone plays together, team-based party rules, or direct competition. This guide compares those differences, controller requirements, GameShare support, camera needs and practical setup choices.

For the simplest drop-in game: Mario Kart World
Mario Kart World needs the least explanation when players have different experience levels. Hand someone a controller, choose a character and course, and the race starts. Nintendo specifically highlights Knockout Tour, in which racers move through consecutive courses and are eliminated at checkpoints. That format gives a session a clear rhythm without requiring a long rules briefing or a campaign commitment.

It is primarily competitive rather than cooperative: players share the screen but race against one another. That makes it a strong choice when people may arrive or leave at different times. A new player can join the next event instead of learning a persistent role or waiting for a story checkpoint. For a group that wants a reliable four-player default, its 1–4 local range and 1–24 online range cover both living-room play and larger online sessions.
For the broadest party night: Super Mario Party Jamboree
Super Mario Party Jamboree – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Jamboree TV offers the widest mix of activities in this comparison. The Nintendo Switch 2 Edition launched on July 24, 2025 and adds Jamboree TV features, mouse control, microphone features, CameraPlay, GameShare compatibility and higher-resolution output.
Local play supports up to four people in several distinct formats:
- Board play: players move through a traditional party-board structure.
- Tag-Team Rules: two teams of two can compete together.
- Bowser Live: a mode built around Bowser-themed challenges.
- Carnival Coaster: an explicitly cooperative attraction in which players aim together for a high score.
- Minigames: the Switch 2 Edition includes 20 new minigames alongside its broader collection.
Choose Jamboree when your group wants to alternate between rivalry and teamwork rather than play one continuous campaign. The game can support a quick set of minigames, a longer board session or a cooperative Carnival Coaster run, so it adapts well to mixed ages and attention spans. Nintendo lists 1–4 players locally and up to 20 online.
For a shared adventure: Super Mario Bros. Wonder
Super Mario Bros. Wonder – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Meetup in Bellabel Park is the best fit when everyone wants to move through the same levels instead of taking turns in party activities. Nintendo lists 1–4 players on one system, 2–8 through local wireless and 1–12 online.

This is a better purchase than a party game when your group expects to play over several sessions and wants a sense of advancement. It is less suitable if people only want five-minute competitive rounds or if everyone would rather have independent score chasing.

For fast mechanical competition: Kirby Air Riders
Kirby Air Riders is aimed at groups that enjoy speed, timing and direct action. Nintendo describes high-speed vehicular play built around charging, boosting, spinning attacks, rider selection and machine customization. One-system play supports 1–4 people; local wireless supports 2–8, and online play supports 1–16.
Compared with Mario Kart World, Kirby Air Riders emphasizes mechanical control and combat-oriented movement. Players who enjoy learning how a machine handles, choosing a rider and refining boost or spin timing will have more to master. It is a strong four-player choice when your group wants competition that feels more active and technical than a straightforward race.
Cooperative, team-based or competitive?
“Couch co-op” can mean several different relationships between players. Decide which one your group actually wants before buying.

Jamboree is the only one of the four that deliberately spans all three relationships. Mario Kart World and Kirby Air Riders are primarily competitive, whereas Wonder keeps the group moving toward common platforming objectives.

Short, repeatable rounds
Mario Kart World and Kirby Air Riders work well when the console is available for a short window. A race or action round has a natural endpoint, so players can rotate without losing progress. This also helps when the group includes guests who do not want to commit to a long session.

Flexible party sessions
Jamboree can be as short or long as the host chooses. A few minigames make a compact session; board play or a longer run through multiple activities creates an evening-sized event. Its range of formats also reduces the risk that one type of challenge will wear out the group.
Progression-based play
Wonder is the strongest option for a recurring group that wants to return to the same save and continue. Its levels, collectibles, challenges and boss battles give players reasons to come back. Because everyone shares the platforming space, the group should agree on a pace and on whether to search thoroughly or move forward.
Controller and room requirements
What comes with Switch 2
Nintendo says each Switch 2 system includes two Joy-Con 2 controllers. Therefore, two people can begin local multiplayer with the hardware in the box, but a three- or four-player session generally requires additional compatible controllers sold separately. Check the control scheme for the chosen game before the session, especially if players will use a single Joy-Con 2 sideways or a full controller configuration.
Using existing Nintendo Switch controllers
Existing Nintendo Switch Joy-Con controllers can pair wirelessly with Switch 2 when the console is in TV or tabletop mode. This can reduce the number of new controllers needed for a four-player group. Handheld mode has different physical constraints, so plan on TV or tabletop play when several people need separate controllers.
TV, tabletop and handheld positioning
- TV mode: the most practical arrangement for four people, with a shared large display and room for multiple controllers.
- Tabletop mode: useful for nearby players and compatible wireless controllers, provided the screen is positioned where everyone can see it.
- Handheld mode: suitable for solo use or limited local play, but less comfortable for a four-person couch session.
Set up controllers and player assignments before launching the mode you want. In a party setting, keep a charging plan ready; four active controllers create more battery demand than a two-player session.
Do you need the Nintendo Switch 2 Camera?
No camera is required for ordinary local multiplayer in any of these four games. The compatible USB-C camera is an optional accessory for CameraPlay and some Jamboree TV features. Nintendo identifies it as separately sold hardware.

Buy or borrow a camera only if your group specifically wants those camera-enabled activities. For standard Jamboree board play, minigames and Carnival Coaster, or for Mario Kart World, Wonder and Kirby Air Riders local play, prioritize enough controllers and a comfortable screen setup instead.

Jamboree’s voice-controlled modes can use the Switch 2’s built-in microphone, so a separate microphone is not automatically required. CameraPlay and other camera-dependent features are the exception.

GameShare allows a Switch 2 to share supported games with nearby Nintendo Switch or Switch 2 systems. It is different from ordinary same-console multiplayer: each participating system runs the shared session, while the host provides the purchased game.
Nintendo’s product description states that a Switch 2 owner with Super Mario Party Jamboree – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Jamboree TV can share part of the game locally with anyone who has a Nintendo Switch or Nintendo Switch 2. In Jamboree, GameShare supports the Mega Wiggler’s Tree Party board and 30 selected minigames. Nintendo notes that this GameShare use has handheld-mode and GameChat limitations.
Super Mario Bros. Wonder – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Meetup in Bellabel Park also supports GameShare, according to Nintendo’s hardware/software listing. The exact activities available through sharing can differ by title, so check the in-game GameShare instructions before inviting a group.
GameShare setup checklist
- Update the host Switch 2 and the participating nearby systems to current system and game software.
- Connect the systems locally and place them close enough for a stable wireless session.
- Open the game’s GameShare option on the host system.
- Have nearby systems select the offered session and follow the on-screen joining prompts.
- Assign controllers and confirm which modes are available through GameShare before starting.
GameShare is most useful when friends or family bring their own Switch systems but only one person owns the supported game. It does not turn every Switch 2 title into a shareable multiplayer game, and it does not remove the need for compatible controllers.

Audience ratings and suitability
Nintendo rates Mario Kart World, Super Mario Party Jamboree – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Jamboree TV and Super Mario Bros. Wonder – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Meetup in Bellabel Park as Everyone with Mild Fantasy Violence. Kirby Air Riders is rated Everyone 10+ with Fantasy Violence.
Those ratings are broad guidance rather than a guarantee that every child will enjoy every mode. Consider reading ability, tolerance for competitive frustration and comfort with fast on-screen action. Wonder’s cooperative structure can be easier for a group that wants to help less-experienced players, while racing and battle-focused games may produce more direct winners and losers.
Four-player buying and setup checklist
- Choose the play relationship: shared campaign, team party or direct competition.
- Confirm player count: all four recommendations support up to four people on one Switch 2.
- Count controllers: two Joy-Con 2 controllers are included; plan additional controllers for players three and four.
- Pick the display: TV mode is usually easiest for a couch group; tabletop mode also works with wireless controllers.
- Decide whether sharing matters: GameShare is useful for supported titles and nearby systems, but availability and mode restrictions are title-specific.
- Skip the camera unless needed: standard multiplayer does not require one; CameraPlay and some Jamboree TV features do.

Recommendations by group type
Two players sharing a Switch 2
Any of the four games works with two people. Choose Wonder if you want cooperation, Jamboree if you want varied party activities, Mario Kart World for quick races or Kirby Air Riders for more action-focused competition. The two included Joy-Con 2 controllers can cover the basic setup.

Three or four players on one console
Mario Kart World is the safest general recommendation for a mixed group because its races are easy to understand and its local maximum is four. Jamboree is the better choice when people want changing activities or explicit team formats. Either option requires planning for additional controllers beyond the two supplied with Switch 2.
A regular group that wants to keep progressing
Pick Wonder. Its Switch 2 Edition adds challenges, collectibles, boss battles, Rosalina and Co-Star Luma play, giving a recurring group shared goals beyond a single evening.
Players who already enjoy competitive action games
Pick Kirby Air Riders. Charging, boosting, spinning attacks, rider selection and machine customization give experienced players more mechanical decisions than a basic party race.
Friends bringing their own Switch systems
Check GameShare compatibility first. Jamboree can share Mega Wiggler’s Tree Party and 30 selected minigames locally from one purchased Switch 2 copy, with handheld-mode and GameChat limitations. Wonder also supports GameShare, but confirm the available content on the host system before the gathering.

Buy Mario Kart World as the default four-player couch game, Super Mario Party Jamboree – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Jamboree TV for the most varied party night, Super Mario Bros.
