Start with the documented defaults, then change only the setting tied to your problem: use the PlayStation-position controller layout, fullscreen windowed mode at your display’s native resolution, V-Sync, a 60 FPS cap and SMAA. Reduce screen shake for motion discomfort, adjust brightness for dark rooms, and enable High Readability when characters blend into the background. These choices are a dependable baseline rather than a claim that one configuration is best for every television, monitor or PC.
The settings menu is available from the main menu and from the in-game System tab. On PC, Q and E change tabs and Space applies edits. The complete menu is organized across six tabs, according to the settings guide updated October 15, 2026.
Recommended setup at a glance
Use this as a starting profile before making personal adjustments. The values below are documented defaults or direct recommendations from the game’s settings documentation, not independent benchmark results.

|---|---|---|
| Controller layout | Default PlayStation-position mapping | Remap only for a specific accessibility or reach requirement. |
| Motion sensitivity | 0.75 | Lower or raise gradually if camera or motion aiming feels too slow or too quick. |
| Eye sensitivity | 0.75 | Adjust separately from motion sensitivity so you can identify which movement is causing discomfort. |
| Display mode | Fullscreen windowed | Try another mode only if your operating system, capture setup or display behaves badly. |
| Resolution | 3,840 × 2,160 following the display | Use a lower stable resolution when the PC cannot maintain the desired frame pacing. |
| Vertical synchronization | On | Reconsider it only when you have a stable alternative frame-pacing method and understand the trade-off. |
| Frame limit | 60 FPS | Match a different cap to a display’s reliably sustained refresh behavior when necessary. |
| Anti-aliasing | SMAA | Change it only to solve a performance or image-quality problem. |
| Brightness | Use the editable control after first-launch calibration | Raise it when dark areas hide hazards; lower it if the image is washed out. |
| Screen shake | 1.0 initially | Reduce it before changing resolution if camera motion is uncomfortable. |
| High Readability | Off initially | Turn it on when Rose or enemies disappear against detailed scenery. |
| Tutorials | Enabled | Keep them on for a first playthrough; disable them later if you no longer need prompts. |
| Custom Mode | Disabled until you accept its consequences | It changes difficulty and the guide warns that some achievements become unobtainable while it is enabled. |

How to open and apply settings
From the main menu
- Open the game’s Settings from the main menu.
- Select the tab containing the option you need.
- On PC, press Q or E to move between tabs.
- Change the value, then press Space to apply it.
- Return to gameplay and test one change at a time. This makes it clear which adjustment solved a problem.
During a run
Pause the game and open the in-game System tab. The same settings are available there, so you do not need to return to the title screen to correct brightness, shake, sensitivity or display behavior.
Controller layout and the best way to tune it
The controller sub-tab uses Xbox button names, but the same physical positions apply to a PlayStation pad. This is important when a prompt says A or RT while you are holding a PlayStation controller: use the corresponding position, not a differently printed label. The complete mapping is documented in the PC controls guide updated October 15, 2026.
| Action | Xbox prompt | PlayStation-position button |
|---|---|---|
| Jump | A | Cross (×) |
| Dodge | B | Circle (○) |
| Attack | X | Square (□) |
| Cast spell | Y | Triangle (△) |
| Arcane Whip | RT | R2 |
| Holy Light | LT | L2 |
| Interact | RB | R1 |
| Heal | LB | L1 |
Why the default placement is the sensible first choice
Jump, dodge, attack and spell actions occupy the four face-button positions, while the two weapon or ability triggers sit on the shoulder triggers. Interact and heal use the bumpers. Keeping this arrangement lets tutorial prompts match the expected action locations and avoids learning a second layout before you know whether the default is comfortable.
Adjust motion and eye sensitivity independently
Both Motion sensitivity and Eye sensitivity start at 0.75. Change one slider, play long enough to reproduce the problem, and then decide whether the second slider needs adjustment. Lower values are the logical first experiment when camera movement feels abrupt; higher values may help if turning or aiming feels sluggish. The documented settings do not establish a universally correct value, so your display distance, seating position and personal tolerance matter.
Choosing a controller on PS5 and PC
A review of the game describes playing it on a base PS5 with Sony’s DualSense Wireless Controller, and its button positions correspond directly to the PlayStation mapping above (TechRadar, October 2026). That makes a DualSense a straightforward PS5 choice, but the evidence does not establish that it is objectively superior to every other compatible pad.

- Haptic feedback - Feel physically responsive feedback to your in-game actions with dual actuators which replace traditional rumble motors. In your hands, these dynamic vibrations can simulate the feeling of everything from environments to the recoil of different weapons. .Operating temperature : 41 °F to 95 °F (5 °C to 35 °C)
- Adaptive triggers - Experience varying levels of force and tension as you interact with your in-game gear and environments. From pulling back an increasingly tight bowstring to hitting the brakes on a speeding car, feel physically connected to your on-screen actions.
- Built-in microphone and headset jack - Chat with friends online using the built-in microphone or by connecting a headset to the 3.5mm jack. Easily switch voice capture on and off at a moment’s notice with the dedicated mute button. Internet and account for PlayStation Network required.
- DualSense Controller PS5 and PC compatible. Not compatible with PS4.
- PS Remote Play requires Remote Play App connected to Wi-Fi, PS4 or PS5 console with the latest system software and compatible game. A PS4 or PS5 console with a wired connection via a LAN cable is recommended. Version 4.0 of the Remote Play App on iOS and iPadOS or version 4.1 on macOS is required for games to be playable with the controller over Bluetooth.
On PC, prioritize a controller whose physical layout matches the prompts you see and whose sticks and triggers remain comfortable during repeated movement and combat. The available documentation gives the Xbox-style labels and PlayStation-position equivalents; it does not publish a controller compatibility matrix, latency comparison or tested ranking of PC models. If the game displays Xbox labels while you use a PlayStation pad, use the position table rather than swapping the whole layout unnecessarily.
Graphics and display settings
Resolution and display mode
The documented PC video defaults are fullscreen windowed and 3,840 × 2,160, following the connected display. Start there when your hardware can sustain the game comfortably. Native resolution keeps text and environmental edges at the display’s intended sharpness, while fullscreen windowed is a practical baseline for switching applications without committing to an exclusive mode.

If performance is inconsistent, lower resolution only as far as needed to produce stable frame pacing. A lower, steady image is usually preferable to repeatedly fluctuating output. The settings documentation does not provide a complete table of tested resolutions, GPU requirements or console performance modes, so there is no evidence-based “best” resolution that applies to every PC, television or monitor.
V-Sync and the 60 FPS limit
V-Sync is enabled and the documented frame limit is 60 FPS. Keep both as the initial profile. V-Sync coordinates completed frames with the display’s refresh cycle, while the cap prevents the game from rendering beyond the selected ceiling. Together they provide a clear baseline for judging responsiveness and smoothness.
Change the cap only when your display has a different refresh behavior that it can sustain reliably, or when your hardware cannot hold 60 FPS. The available material contains no independent frame-rate benchmark and no console-specific performance matrix. Treat any alternative cap as a practical adjustment for your own display rather than a published universal recommendation.

SMAA anti-aliasing
SMAA is the documented anti-aliasing default. Leave it in place while you diagnose larger issues such as frame pacing, resolution or brightness. Anti-aliasing changes edge treatment; it does not correct a dark calibration, excessive camera motion or unreadable character silhouettes.

Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Brightness and first-launch calibration
Brightness is editable rather than fixed. The documented first-launch starting point is 0.5. Use the game’s calibration scene or your first dark area as the reference, then move the control until you can distinguish environmental detail without turning every bright surface gray.
- If underground sections hide platforms, enemies or interactable objects, raise brightness in small increments.
- If blacks look gray and highlights lose separation, move it back down.
- Recheck after changing the television or monitor’s own picture mode; two brightness controls can compound each other.
Reducing motion discomfort and improving readability
Screen shake
Screen shake intensity starts at 1.0 and can be reduced. If impacts or attacks make the view uncomfortable, lower this control before sacrificing resolution or anti-aliasing. Reducing shake targets the source of the discomfort while preserving image detail and the 60 FPS baseline.
High Readability
High Readability is off by default. Enabling it unlocks controls for player and enemy outline color, brightness and thickness. Turn it on when Rose or enemies merge with busy backgrounds, particularly after you have already set brightness sensibly.
Use the outline controls deliberately:
- Increase outline thickness when silhouettes vanish during movement.
- Adjust outline brightness when the border is technically present but hard to see.
- Choose a color that contrasts with the areas where you most often lose track of Rose or an enemy.
These controls address visual separation, not frame rate. If the game is smooth but characters are difficult to parse, readability is the more targeted fix.

Gameplay settings: tutorials and Custom Mode
Keep tutorials on for a first run
Tutorials are enabled by default and introduce movement and combat prompts. Leave them enabled when learning the game or when another player is taking over the controller. Once the actions are familiar, disable them only if recurring prompts interrupt your play.
Understand the achievement trade-off before enabling Custom Mode
Custom Mode is an optional adjustable-difficulty system. It can be useful when the standard balance does not fit your preferred challenge, but the settings guide explicitly warns that some achievements become unobtainable when Custom Mode is enabled. Decide which goal matters more before starting a progression-focused run. If achievement eligibility is important, leave Custom Mode disabled for that run rather than enabling it temporarily and assuming it can be undone without consequence.
Decision guide for common problems
| Symptom | First setting to try | Reason |
|---|---|---|
| Camera movement causes discomfort | Reduce screen shake intensity. | It removes the visual jolt without lowering image resolution. |
| Rose or enemies blend into scenery | Enable High Readability, then tune outline brightness, color and thickness. | These controls increase silhouette separation. |
| Dark areas conceal detail | Adjust the in-game brightness control. | Brightness is the setting intended for scene visibility. |
| Image tears or feels uneven | Keep V-Sync on and verify that the 60 FPS cap is sustainable. | The documented baseline is designed around synchronized output. |
| Performance is unstable | Lower resolution from the display-following default, then retest. | A stable lower output is preferable to an inconsistent target the hardware cannot hold. |
| Turning or aiming feels too fast | Lower the relevant sensitivity slider, changing one at a time. | Motion and eye sensitivity are separate controls. |
| Turning or aiming feels too slow | Raise the relevant sensitivity slider gradually. | This preserves the rest of the controller layout while changing only response speed. |
| Prompts are confusing on a PlayStation pad | Use the physical-position mapping table. | The controller tab uses Xbox names for matching positions. |
| You want achievement progress | Do not enable Custom Mode for that run. | The guide warns of achievement restrictions in that mode. |
Suggested profiles by player priority
First playthrough
- Use the default PlayStation-position controller layout.
- Keep tutorials enabled.
- Leave motion and eye sensitivity at their documented starting values until a specific problem appears.
- Use fullscreen windowed, display-following resolution, V-Sync, a 60 FPS cap and SMAA.
- Keep Custom Mode disabled if achievements matter.
Motion-sensitive setup
- Reduce screen shake intensity first.
- Lower motion or eye sensitivity only if camera movement itself remains uncomfortable.
- Keep the frame-pacing baseline while evaluating the change, so you do not confuse judder with camera motion.
Readability-focused setup
- Calibrate brightness in a dark area.
- Enable High Readability.
- Increase outline thickness or brightness only as much as needed to separate Rose and enemies from the background.
Performance-constrained PC
- Start from the documented 60 FPS target and verify whether it is stable.
- If it is not, reduce resolution before changing several other options.
- Retest with V-Sync still enabled so you can judge frame pacing consistently.
- Do not infer console performance or a required GPU from the PC defaults; no complete hardware matrix is published in the available documentation.
What is and is not established about “best” settings
The documented values provide a reproducible starting point: fullscreen windowed mode, display-following 3,840 × 2,160 resolution, V-Sync, a 60 FPS cap, SMAA, editable brightness, 0.75 motion and eye sensitivity, 1.0 screen shake and disabled High Readability. They do not constitute a laboratory comparison of monitors, televisions, controllers or graphics cards.
For that reason, judge a setup on four practical axes: input comfort (button reach, sensitivity and vibration feel), readability (brightness, outlines and subtitle visibility), motion comfort (shake and controller vibration) and frame pacing (V-Sync, cap and display refresh behavior). Change the control that corresponds to the axis you want to improve, and keep the other values fixed while testing.
Quick Recap
Final setup checklist
- Open Settings from the main menu or the in-game System tab.
- Confirm the PlayStation-position mapping: Cross jump, Circle dodge, Square attack, Triangle spell, R2 Arcane Whip, L2 Holy Light, R1 interact and L1 heal.
- Start motion and eye sensitivity at 0.75 and change them separately only when necessary.
- Use fullscreen windowed mode, the display-following resolution, V-Sync, a 60 FPS cap and SMAA on PC.
- Calibrate brightness for your room and display rather than copying a television’s picture-mode value.
- Lower screen shake for motion discomfort.
- Enable High Readability and tune outlines when characters blend into scenery.
- Keep tutorials enabled while learning.
- Leave Custom Mode off when achievement eligibility is a priority.
