There is no officially established “best” controller map or PC graphics preset for 2XKO. Riot’s documentation does establish that control layouts can be customized by input context and saved per profile, so the best setup is one you can operate consistently in Combat and Lobby. For graphics, the available official notes confirm that display options exist, but they do not publish a complete PC option list, recommended values, or a tested quality-versus-latency ranking.
Use the current in-game Controls and Display menus, change one setting at a time, and judge the result on your own monitor and hardware. If you plan to enter a Riot-sponsored event, configure any simultaneous-opposite-cardinal-direction (SOCD) cleaning correctly and avoid turbo, macros, Last Input Wins, and prohibited duplicate bindings.
What “best settings” means in 2XKO
For a competitive fighting game, “best” is not one universal button diagram or a graphics preset copied from another player. It means that your inputs are predictable, your layout is comfortable enough to use without hesitation, and the image remains suitable for your display and performance target. Those decisions are personal because hand size, prior controller experience, preferred attack buttons, monitor refresh behavior, and hardware capability differ.

Riot’s November 18, 2025 patch notes document configurable layouts for different input contexts, including Combat and Lobby, with layouts saved per profile. Riot’s January 19, 2026 notes document controller-icon choices in First Fight, Tutorials, and Combo Trials. Neither note identifies a universally optimal map.
The same evidence boundary applies to graphics. The notes show that display options exist and that display-option changes persist when you leave and re-enter those learning modes. They do not establish the complete current PC Display menu, official values for resolution scaling, synchronization, anti-aliasing, frame caps, or a measured comparison of image quality, input latency, or frame pacing. Any article that presents a fixed “competitive preset” as an official 2XKO recommendation is going beyond those sources.

Start with the right expectations about PC support
Riot’s official game page describes 2XKO as a free-to-play 2v2 fighting game for PC, Xbox Series X|S, and PlayStation 5. The game page and FAQ headings indicate that PC requirements and supported controllers are documented by Riot, but the specific requirement values and a complete device list are not included in the material available for this guide. Check the current Riot FAQ before treating a particular graphics problem as a hardware fault.
- A controller being physically usable on a PC does not automatically make every mapping legal at a Riot-sponsored competition.
- A display option appearing in your build does not mean Riot has published a recommended value for it.
- A layout that works for one profile can be changed independently from another because layouts are saved per profile.
- Independent community tournaments can adopt different peripheral policies from Riot-sponsored events.
How to configure a controller in 2XKO
1. Open the current Controls menu
Launch 2XKO and open the game’s current Settings or Controls screen. Menu names and placement can change between builds, so follow the labels shown in your installation rather than an old screenshot. Your goal is to identify the sections for input context, profile, and button assignment before changing anything.
2. Select the profile you actually play
Riot’s 1.0.3 patch notes state that control layouts are saved per profile. Confirm the active profile before editing. If several people use the same PC, this prevents a roommate’s or guest’s bindings from being mistaken for your own. After making a change, switch away and back to the profile to verify that the intended layout was edited.
3. Configure Combat separately from Lobby
The patch notes specifically identify different input contexts, including Combat and Lobby. Treat them as separate jobs. Combat bindings should make attacks, assists, movement, blocking, and other actions reachable without accidental presses. Lobby bindings should make navigation reliable. Do not assume that changing one context changes every other context; inspect each context listed by your build.

4. Begin with the 2XKO default or a clean custom layout
Riot documents both a 2XKO default layout and custom layouts. Start with the default if you want a known baseline, or choose custom if you already have a layout from another fighting game that you can operate confidently. The documentation supports the existence of these choices, not a claim that either is mechanically superior.
5. Assign one action to each physical control you can use consistently
Place frequently used actions where your hand naturally rests, then test the arrangement in a low-pressure mode. Avoid copying a tournament player’s map merely because it is popular; your own consistency matters more than a fashionable diagram. If you use a pad, keyboard, fightstick, or leverless controller, evaluate reach, accidental activation, and whether you can return to neutral between actions.

Use First Fight, Tutorials, or Combo Trials to check each input. Verify that directional movement, attacks, assists, defensive actions, and any multi-button functions produce the intended result. Test the buttons you press together as well as individually. A layout can look correct in a menu while still feeling awkward when you must move and attack simultaneously.
7. Save, leave the menu, and retest
After saving, leave the Controls screen and perform the same short sequence again. This catches unsaved changes and context mistakes. If your build offers a reset-to-default command, note where it is before experimenting so you can recover without manually reconstructing every binding.

Choosing controller icons in learning modes
Patch 1.1.1 says players can choose platform-specific controller icons or 2XKO button icons in First Fight, Tutorials, and Combo Trials. The same notes say display-option changes persist after leaving and re-entering those modes. Choose the icon style that matches the labels printed on your device or the notation you already understand.
- Platform-specific icons: useful when the symbols on your physical controller are the main reference.
- 2XKO button icons: useful when you prefer the game’s own attack and action notation.
- Persistence: after changing the option, exit the learning mode and return to confirm that the choice remains.
This option changes the instructional labels; it does not establish a different input map or improve performance. It also does not prove that every current PC menu uses the same icon choices outside those three learning areas.

No source available for this guide compares controller types by response latency, execution quality, or win rate. Choose by comfort, familiarity, and dependable operation rather than a claim that one category is inherently faster.
| Input type | Questions to ask | 2XKO-specific check |
|---|---|---|
| Gamepad | Can you reach movement, attacks, assists, and defensive actions without shifting your grip? | Confirm that the game recognizes the device and that your chosen Combat layout remains saved to the correct profile. |
| Keyboard | Are the movement keys and action keys spaced so simultaneous presses are comfortable? | Check every key in the Controls menu and verify that instructional icons do not confuse keyboard labels with controller symbols. |
| Fightstick | Is the lever and button arrangement familiar enough that you do not mis-hit adjacent controls? | Test directional and attack inputs in a learning mode, then check any event-specific peripheral rules. |
| Leverless controller | Can you operate the directional buttons consistently and return to neutral when required? | For Riot-sponsored events, verify SOCD behavior and firmware or hardware compliance before entering. |
Native in-game mapping is the most relevant compatibility question because Riot’s rules permit actions through the game’s supported configuration menu. The available material does not verify a complete list of third-party devices, so check the current official support information for your exact hardware and platform.

Riot-sponsored tournament rules for controllers
Riot’s official “2XKO Competitive Permitted Peripherals” page, published May 15, 2026, applies its restrictions to Riot-sponsored events, including the 2XKO Competitive Series. Independent community organizers are not required to enforce those rules and may set their own policies. Always read the specific event’s rulebook.
SOCD behavior that Riot requires
For controllers capable of simultaneous inputs, Riot requires left plus right to resolve to neutral. Up plus down must resolve to up or neutral. This is the relevant issue for many leverless designs and any other device that can report opposite directional inputs at the same time.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
If a leverless controller does not already provide the required behavior, Riot says it needs compliant firmware or a hardware cleaning kit before Riot-sponsored play. Do not infer compliance from a product category or appearance. Verify how the exact firmware handles each opposite-direction combination.
Inputs and features that are prohibited
- Last Input Wins for left and right: this resolution behavior is not permitted under the Riot-sponsored rules.
- Turbo: automated repeated input is prohibited.
- Custom macros: programmable sequences or automation are prohibited.
- Duplicate assignment of specified attacks or dash: Riot prohibits assigning those actions to multiple buttons.
Riot’s rule also states: “A single physical activation of a button, trigger, or key must correspond to a single in-game output action.” That requirement is subject to the game’s own supported configuration menu. It means a single press cannot be turned into an automated sequence or multiple independent outputs through a peripheral feature.
How to prepare before a Riot event
- Find the event’s current peripheral rules and confirm that they are a Riot-sponsored ruleset rather than a community-only policy.
- Identify how your controller resolves left plus right and up plus down.
- Update firmware or install compliant hardware cleaning only if the manufacturer’s documentation supports it and the event permits that configuration.
- Disable turbo, macros, Last Input Wins, and any duplicate attack or dash assignments.
- Use the in-game Controls menu for permitted mappings, then test each physical activation in a learning mode.
- Bring the event rule text or an organizer-approved configuration if staff require verification.
Graphics settings: what is known and what is not
The honest answer to “What graphics settings should I use for 2XKO?” is that the available official material does not establish a universal preset. Riot’s January 2026 patch notes confirm display options and persistence in First Fight, Tutorials, and Combo Trials. They do not list the complete current PC inventory or recommend values for resolution, scaling, synchronization, anti-aliasing, shadows, effects, or frame caps.
Because no sourced test compares image quality, latency, or frame pacing, do not treat a specific combination as a measured competitive advantage. The correct process is to inspect the options in your own build and adjust according to your display and performance goal.

A safe, repeatable graphics process
- Record a baseline. Note your current resolution, window mode, visible quality options, and how the game feels in a repeatable training sequence.
- Open the current Display menu. Use the labels and values exposed by your installed PC build. Do not rely on a menu list from an older patch.
- Change one option at a time. If you alter several settings together, you cannot tell which change affected image quality or smoothness.
- Return to the same scene. Use First Fight, Tutorials, or Combo Trials so your comparison is made under similar conditions.
- Check persistence. Leave and re-enter the learning mode to confirm that the display-option change remains, as described in patch 1.1.1.
- Keep the setting that meets your goal. A clearer image may matter more to one player, while another may prefer a lower visual load; the sources do not rank those priorities for you.
- Consult current PC requirements. If the game performs poorly, compare your system with Riot’s latest requirements and support guidance rather than assuming a particular graphics toggle is the cause.
Separate visual preference from troubleshooting
If the game is difficult to read, first determine whether the problem is image clarity, display scaling, or a performance issue. If the game feels inconsistent, document the exact menu values and circumstances before changing them again. This creates a useful before-and-after record without pretending that an unsupported setting has been benchmarked.
Do not add a frame-rate target, latency number, or hardware benchmark to your decision unless a current source actually publishes it for the same build and conditions. None of those figures is established in the official material used here.
A practical setup checklist
- Open Controls and identify the active profile.
- Review each available input context, including Combat and Lobby.
- Choose the 2XKO default or create a custom layout you can operate reliably.
- Test movement, attacks, assists, defensive actions, and simultaneous inputs in a learning mode.
- Select platform-specific or 2XKO button icons in First Fight, Tutorials, and Combo Trials if those options are present.
- Exit and re-enter a learning mode to confirm that the icon and display choices persist.
- Open Display and write down the options and values shown by your current PC build.
- Change graphics settings individually and compare the same repeatable scene.
- Check Riot’s current PC requirements if performance remains unsatisfactory.
- Before a Riot-sponsored event, verify SOCD behavior and remove turbo, macros, Last Input Wins, and prohibited duplicate bindings.
- For an independent event, read that organizer’s rules because Riot’s sponsored-event restrictions are not automatically binding.
Common mistakes and how to recover
Copying a button map without testing it
A layout borrowed from another player may place an action under a finger position you cannot reach comfortably. Restore the 2XKO default or your saved profile, then change one binding and retest before making further edits.
Editing the wrong context
If a Combat change appears ineffective in the Lobby, inspect the context selector. The documented system allows different contexts, so the unchanged behavior may be expected rather than a failed save.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesAssuming controller icons change controls
Icon selection in the three documented learning modes changes the instructional labels. It does not by itself remap buttons or certify a peripheral for competition.
Using a leverless controller without checking SOCD
Normal online play and a Riot-sponsored event are different compliance questions. Before entering a Riot event, determine the device’s left/right and up/down resolution and use compliant firmware or hardware if necessary.
Applying a graphics preset from an old video
Patch changes can alter available options and labels. Reopen the current Display menu, record what your build actually offers, and make changes one at a time.
Assuming every tournament follows Riot’s rules
Riot’s published restrictions cover Riot-sponsored events. Community organizers retain discretion, so their rulebook is the authority for an independent bracket.
The decision in one sentence
Use the controller layout and profile structure Riot actually documents, choose the input device you can operate consistently, treat learning-mode icon persistence as a convenience rather than a performance feature, and tune graphics only from the options visible in your current build because no defensible universal PC preset has been published.
