The best compact gaming soundbar depends on the space under your display and the way your PC or console outputs audio. For the smallest compatible PC desk, the 400 mm Razer Leviathan V2 X is the footprint leader and uses one USB-C cable for sound and power. Creative’s Katana V2X is the more flexible choice when you need USB, HDMI ARC, optical, Bluetooth and AUX, but its subwoofer needs additional floor or shelf space. The Katana SE removes that separate box while remaining a comparatively wide 650 mm bar. Creative’s GS5 offers useful inputs and punchy game effects, although an independent review found it large for a desk and limited in overall fidelity. The Stage Pro is best treated as a roomier, TV-first alternative rather than a truly compact desktop bar.
This guide separates measured dimensions, connection paths, subwoofer requirements and independent listening observations so you can choose a model that actually fits and works with your equipment.
Quick picks at a glance
| Model | Bar size (W × H × D) | Subwoofer | Inputs and outputs | Best fit | Main caveat |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Razer Leviathan V2 X | 400 mm length; height and depth not stated in the cited material | None | USB-C audio/power; Bluetooth 5.0 | Narrow PC desk with a compatible USB-C host | Evidence does not establish direct wired USB support for PS5 or Xbox |
| Creative Sound Blaster Katana V2X | 600 × 95 × 62 mm | Compact subwoofer included | USB audio, HDMI ARC, optical, Bluetooth 5.0, AUX | PC, console or TV setups needing several source options | Subwoofer requires separate placement |
| Creative Sound Blaster Katana SE | 650 × 109 × 78 mm | None | USB audio, HDMI ARC, optical, Bluetooth 5.0, headphone output, AUX | Multi-input setups that cannot accommodate a subwoofer | Wider and deeper than the V2 X; bass is reduced without a subwoofer |
| Creative Sound Blaster GS5 | 510 × 102.7 × 82.6 mm | None | USB-C audio, optical, 3.5 mm AUX, Bluetooth 5.3, headphone output | Budget-conscious desks needing broad connectivity | TechRadar found it large for desktop use and limited in fidelity |
| Creative Stage Pro | Bar: 550 × 112.1 × 80.7 mm | 115 × 265 × 420 mm separate subwoofer | USB-C audio, HDMI ARC, optical, Bluetooth 5.3, AUX | Larger rooms or TV-first systems | Bulky for most desks and not a strict compact pick |
Dimensions are the listed or measured figures supplied for each model. A bar’s width is only part of the fit: height can obscure the lower edge of a monitor, and depth can collide with a stand or keyboard. For systems with a subwoofer, include the additional unit’s footprint and a nearby power outlet.

How to choose a compact gaming soundbar
Measure the usable space, not just the monitor width
Measure the gap beneath the display in three directions. Record the maximum width between the stand legs, the vertical clearance below the panel, and the available depth from the front edge of the desk to the display. Then check whether the display stand occupies the center of that space. A 510 mm bar may fit between the outer edges of a monitor yet fail between its stand legs. Leave room for cables at the rear and avoid covering the monitor’s infrared receiver or status lights.

Match the source to the bar’s actual connection
USB audio is usually the simplest PC route, but USB implementations are not interchangeable with every console. HDMI ARC and optical are useful when audio is routed through a television or monitor that provides an audio output. Bluetooth works for wireless devices, but it can introduce latency and does not prove that a bar accepts a wired signal from a particular PlayStation or Xbox. Treat a manufacturer’s generic “console support” statement as a starting point and verify the exact console, display and cable path.
Decide whether bass is worth another box
An all-in-one bar keeps the floor clear and has one less device to power. A separate subwoofer can provide more low-frequency impact, but it needs a stable location, a power socket and enough clearance for its driver or port. Do not assume that a “compact subwoofer” is desk-friendly; the V2X’s subwoofer is described as smaller than an earlier model, yet it remains a separate unit.
Separate advertised features from tested results
Driver counts, virtual-surround modes and lighting describe a design, not a guaranteed listening experience. The independent GS5 review cited here found punchy game effects but limited overall fidelity. The other candidates’ driver and surround claims are manufacturer specifications, so use them to understand features rather than to create a performance ranking that has not been tested side by side.
Model-by-model recommendations
Razer Leviathan V2 X: the narrowest PC-first option
At 400 mm long, the Leviathan V2 X is the shortest bar in this comparison. Razer describes it as the most compact model in its Leviathan range, designed to sit beneath a monitor. It uses two full-range drivers and two passive radiators, with audio and power carried over one USB Type-C cable. Razer states 90 dB at 1 m, with the delivered level dependent on how much power the source provides.
The one-cable arrangement is attractive for a laptop, desktop or dock that supplies USB audio and enough power. Bluetooth 5.0 provides a wireless path for a phone, and Razer’s FAQ specifically identifies phones and Nintendo Switch as Bluetooth devices. That does not establish direct wired USB compatibility with a PS5 or Xbox, so console owners should plan on Bluetooth only if their console supports the required profile, or route console audio through a display or another compatible output.
- Choose it when: every millimetre matters and your main source is a compatible PC USB-C connection.
- Avoid it when: you need HDMI ARC, optical or several permanently connected sources.
- Setup check: confirm that the computer’s USB-C port supports audio, not only charging, and that it can provide the required power.
Creative Sound Blaster Katana V2X: the flexible multi-input system
The Katana V2X combines a 600 × 95 × 62 mm bar with a compact subwoofer. Creative lists a tri-amplified, five-driver design, Super X-Fi and 5.1 virtual surround, along with USB audio, HDMI ARC, optical, Bluetooth 5.0 and AUX. Creative also describes support for PC and major console families, including PlayStation and Xbox.
Those inputs make the V2X easier to integrate into a mixed setup. A PC can use USB, while a television or console chain can use HDMI ARC or optical; AUX and Bluetooth cover older or wireless sources. The exact route still matters. For example, a console connected directly to a monitor may need the monitor’s optical or HDMI-ARC output, and a display without audio return cannot pass sound to the bar through ARC.

- Powerful Pass-Through Charging: Supports up to 85W pass-through charging so you can power up your laptop while you use the hub. Note: Pass-through charging requires a charger (not included). Note: To achieve full power for iPad, we recommend using a 45W wall charger.
- Transfer Files in Seconds: Move files to and from your laptop at speeds of up to 5 Gbps via the USB-C and USB-A data ports. Note: The USB C 5Gbps Data port does not support video output.
- HD Display: Connect to the HDMI port to stream or mirror content to an external monitor in resolutions of up to 4K@30Hz. Note: The USB-C ports do not support video output.
- What You Get: Anker 332 USB-C Hub (5-in-1), welcome guide, our worry-free 18-month warranty, and friendly customer service.
The subwoofer is described as 40% smaller than the Katana V2 subwoofer, but “smaller” does not mean negligible. Reserve a floor or shelf position and an outlet before choosing this system. Its extra bass hardware is the reason to select it over an all-in-one bar, not a detail to discover after delivery.
- Choose it when: you want the broadest set of wired inputs and are willing to accommodate a subwoofer.
- Avoid it when: the desk has no safe location for a second powered unit.
- Console check: verify whether your display offers HDMI ARC or optical output and set the console’s audio format to one the bar accepts.
Creative Sound Blaster Katana SE: broad connectivity without a subwoofer
The Katana SE keeps several of the V2X’s connection options in a single bar: USB audio, HDMI ARC, Bluetooth 5.0, optical, headphone output and AUX. Creative’s indexed official material lists a four-driver design with Super X-Fi and 5.1 virtual surround, and dimensions of 650 × 109 × 78 mm.
Removing the subwoofer simplifies placement, but the SE is not the smallest bar. It is 250 mm longer than the Leviathan V2 X, 50 mm longer than the V2X, and deeper than both. Creative’s material indicates reduced bass impact compared with subwoofer-equipped siblings, which is the expected trade-off for an all-in-one enclosure.
The listed dimensions come from indexed official material; verify the current regional specification before ordering because regional pages can change. Measure the full 650 mm width against the stand and check the 109 mm height against the bottom bezel of the display.

Creative Sound Blaster GS5: affordable connectivity with desktop compromises
TechRadar’s review, first published in April 2026, lists a 510 × 102.7 × 82.6 mm chassis. The GS5 provides Bluetooth 5.3, optical, 3.5 mm AUX, USB-C audio and a headphone output. The reviewer found game effects punchy and the connectivity broad, but judged overall fidelity limited and the enclosure too large to sit comfortably on the reviewed desk.
Software control has an important restriction: custom sound profiles and advanced app adjustments work on a PC through USB. They are not available when the bar is connected to a console or operating over Bluetooth. If you expect to tune the bar from a console, treat the hardware controls and the console’s own audio settings as the available options.
TechRadar listed the GS5 at $99.99, £74.99 and AU$129.95 when that review was published. Those are historical review prices, not current quotes; regional stock and pricing can change.

Creative Stage Pro: a larger-room alternative
The Stage Pro is useful as a size reference for what you gain by accepting a roomier system. PC Gamer lists a 550 × 112.1 × 80.7 mm bar plus a 115 × 265 × 420 mm subwoofer. Connections include Bluetooth 5.3, HDMI ARC, USB-C audio, optical and AUX. The review describes the output as loud and immersive with useful connectivity, while also calling the unit bulky for desk use.
PC Gamer listed review prices of $170 and £130. These figures date from that review and should not be used as current pricing. The Stage Pro makes more sense beneath a television or on a wide desk where the subwoofer can stand on the floor; it is not the first choice for a compact monitor setup.
Connection plans for common setups
USB-C PC desk
- Place the bar centrally below the display, keeping its front unobstructed.
- Connect the bar’s USB audio port to a computer port that supports data and audio. For the Leviathan V2 X, the same USB-C cable carries power.
- In the operating system’s sound settings, select the soundbar as the output device and set the desired sample rate or spatial-audio mode.
- Install the manufacturer’s control software only if your model supports it over that connection. The GS5’s app-based profiles require PC USB.
Console through a television or monitor
- Connect the console to an HDMI input on the television or monitor.
- If the display has HDMI ARC, connect its ARC-labelled HDMI port to the soundbar’s HDMI ARC port. Otherwise, use the display’s optical output if available.
- Set the display’s audio output to ARC or optical and select a compatible stereo or compressed format on the console if the bar does not decode the chosen signal.
- Test game audio, chat and volume control separately. Some displays pass game sound but handle headset chat through a different path.
Direct optical or AUX connection
Optical is a practical fallback for a console, PC motherboard or display with an optical output. It carries digital audio but not every surround format. AUX accepts an analogue stereo signal and works with sources that lack digital outputs, at the cost of relying on the source’s analogue conversion and volume control. Use the bar’s input selector to avoid leaving multiple sources active unintentionally.
Bluetooth source
Pair a phone, tablet or compatible console using the model’s Bluetooth procedure. Keep the source near the bar and expect more latency than with USB, HDMI or optical. Bluetooth is best for music or casual play when lip-sync and competitive reaction time are not critical.
Footprint planning checklist
- Measure the clear width between stand legs, not merely the display’s outer width.
- Measure vertical clearance from the desk to the active screen area; a 95–112.1 mm-tall bar can cover the lower edge of a monitor.
- Measure depth to the display stand and leave room for rear connectors and cable bends.
- For the V2X or Stage Pro, reserve a separate subwoofer location and power outlet.
- Confirm that the bar does not block a laptop hinge, monitor controls, webcam or infrared receiver.
- Check whether the chosen input remains accessible after the bar is installed; recessed optical and USB ports can be difficult to reach.
- Keep the bar level and centered with the display so left and right drivers are not blocked by the stand.
Sound and control trade-offs
A narrow all-in-one bar is convenient, but enclosure volume limits how much low-frequency energy it can produce at high levels. The V2X uses passive radiators to extend its compact design, while the Katana V2X and Stage Pro dedicate a separate enclosure to bass. The Katana SE and GS5 keep the floor clear but cannot reproduce the same subwoofer-assisted impact implied by a larger system.
Virtual-surround and spatial modes can widen positional effects, yet their usefulness depends on the game mix, room reflections and listening position. Super X-Fi and 5.1 virtual surround on the Katana models are feature claims from Creative, not matching independent measurements. The GS5’s independent review is the clearest caution in this group: punchy effects do not automatically mean balanced music or dialogue reproduction.
Control software can also change the buying decision. The GS5’s advanced app functions are limited to a USB-connected PC, so they do not follow the bar to a console or Bluetooth source. A setup that switches between PC USB and console optical should be tuned with that limitation in mind.

Prices, availability and how to compare value
Review-time prices are useful only as historical context. The GS5 review recorded $99.99 / £74.99 / AU$129.95 in April 2026, while PC Gamer listed the Stage Pro at $170 / £130. Neither figure guarantees a current price, a specific regional model or continuing stock. Check the live regional listing, included cables, warranty terms and exact model name before comparing offers.
For value, compare the complete system rather than the bar alone. A V2X purchase includes the subwoofer, so the real space requirement is bar plus subwoofer. An SE or GS5 may appear simpler because there is one box, but their larger bar dimensions can consume more monitor space than expected. The Leviathan V2 X may be the least expensive way to solve a narrow PC desk problem, yet adding adapters or a display audio route can erase that simplicity for a console.

Pick the Leviathan V2 X for the smallest compatible PC setup
Select it when the decisive requirement is a 400 mm bar and your computer supports USB-C audio and power. Do not select it on the assumption that a USB cable will connect directly to every console.
Pick the Katana V2X for maximum source flexibility
Select it when HDMI ARC, optical, USB, Bluetooth and AUX are all useful and you can place a subwoofer. It is the most adaptable option here for a mixed PC, console and television chain.
Pick the Katana SE for multi-input simplicity
Select it when you want many of the V2X’s connection choices without a separate floor unit. Confirm that 650 × 109 × 78 mm fits before ordering and accept less bass than a subwoofer-equipped system.
Pick the GS5 when connectivity and budget lead
Select it when USB-C, optical, AUX, Bluetooth and a headphone output matter more than refined fidelity or the smallest footprint. Use USB on PC if you need its app-based profiles.

Troubleshooting common setup problems
No sound over USB
Confirm that the cable supports data, select the soundbar in the operating system’s output list, and check whether the host port supplies enough power. On a console, do not assume a USB port will deliver the same audio function as a PC USB host; use HDMI ARC, optical or an explicitly supported wireless route instead.
Sound works from the console but not the display
Verify that the HDMI cable is connected to the display’s ARC-labelled port and the bar’s ARC port. If the display has no ARC, move to optical or AUX. Recheck the display’s audio-output setting after changing inputs.
Audio is delayed over Bluetooth
Use USB, HDMI ARC or optical for games requiring tight synchronization. Bluetooth is more appropriate for music or noncompetitive play.
The bar blocks the screen or stand
Re-measure height and depth, then move the display higher only if the resulting viewing angle remains comfortable. A narrower bar is not automatically shallower; compare all three dimensions before changing models.
The app has fewer controls than expected
Check the active input. On the GS5, advanced app adjustments and custom profiles require a PC USB connection and are unavailable through console connections or Bluetooth.
The Bottom Line
For a genuinely narrow PC desk, the 400 mm Leviathan V2 X is the clearest fit if USB-C audio and power meet your needs. Choose the Katana V2X for the widest connection options and accept its subwoofer footprint; choose the Katana SE when you need those options in one box. The GS5 is a connectivity-focused budget option with independent fidelity and size caveats, while the Stage Pro belongs in a larger room rather than a compact monitor setup.
