The right coffee maker with a built-in grinder depends on whether you want a pot of drip coffee, a single mug, or espresso-style drinks. For drip brewing, the Breville Grind Control is the strongest all-around fit in Good Housekeeping’s tested group; the BLACK+DECKER Mill and Brew prioritizes value, while the Cuisinart Grind & Brew Single-Serve suits one-cup households. De’Longhi TrueBrew offers more serving-size flexibility, and Capresso CoffeeTeam TS emphasizes hot coffee from a thermal carafe.

These are five different solutions, not interchangeable versions of one machine. In particular, an espresso machine’s “coffee” setting is not traditional drip coffee. The picks below draw on Good Housekeeping’s product evaluations, rather than hands-on testing for this guide.

How to choose a coffee maker and grinder combo

Start with the kind of coffee you actually make. Drip machines brew into a carafe or cup; single-serve machines focus on one serving; automatic espresso machines are built around espresso-based drinks. The five choices here cover drip and single-serve brewing, with one option that also makes espresso-style concentrated coffee.

Choose a grinder you can live with

Burr grinders crush beans between two grinding surfaces, while blade grinders chop them. Blade models tend to cost less and often offer fewer grind choices. If adjusting grind size matters to you, look for multiple settings—and check whether the settings are clearly labeled. The BLACK+DECKER is the blade-grinder option here; the Breville and Capresso use burr grinders.

BLACK+DECKER 12-Cup Grind and Brew Coffee Maker
  • Note: 1)Too coarse a grind, too little coffee, or insufficiently tamping the grounds before brewing can all lead to inadequate pressure for a proper brew. 2)It is important to note that the amount of espresso extracted will vary depending on the grind size and amount and reprogramming may be needed when the size and amount are adjusted. Please refer to user guide or user manual or user guide (provided below in PDF) before first use

Consider hopper size and daily workflow

A hopper stores beans between brews, so a larger one means less frequent refilling. Good Housekeeping reports an eight-ounce hopper on the Breville, six ounces on the Capresso, and 3.5 ounces on the Cuisinart single-serve. The BLACK+DECKER has no hopper, so you add beans for each brew. Also consider whether you can start grinding and brewing in one go: the Cuisinart requires you to grind into its reusable capsule first, then load the capsule into the machine to brew.

Pick a carafe and cleaning routine that fit

Glass carafes are generally lighter, less expensive, and often dishwasher-safe. Thermal carafes can keep coffee warm without a warming plate, but they are typically more expensive and may need hand washing. Check how easy it is to reach grinder parts for cleaning, and measure your counter space before choosing a larger machine.

Capresso CoffeeTeam TS Hot coffee from a thermal carafe Drip coffee; conical burr grinder with five settings and six-ounce hopper Grind settings are unlabeled, with limited difference between the smallest and largest settings

Breville The Grind Control: best fit for adjustable drip brewing

Good Housekeeping named this its best overall pick among the machines it tested. The publication reported six grind settings, an eight-ounce hopper, and a 12-cup capacity. Its grinder assessment found consistent fine, medium, and coarse grounds, while its taste test described the coffee as smooth and not bitter.

Breville’s US product page confirms an integrated adjustable stainless-steel burr grinder, programmable auto start, and brewing into a carafe, tall cup, or travel mug. It lists an included 12-cup, dual-wall stainless-steel thermal carafe. The practical downside is that the carafe is hand-wash only. See Breville’s US product details.

BLACK+DECKER Mill and Brew: best fit for value-conscious drip drinkers

Good Housekeeping calls this its best-value choice. Its grinder sits in the brew basket, which the reviewer found easy to clean; the lab also reported that it was among the quietest grinders tested and produced consistent grounds.

The tradeoff is a simple blade grinder with one setting and no hopper. Add beans for each brew, and do not expect to adjust grind size. This is a more basic choice for someone who values a straightforward drip routine over grinder flexibility.

Cuisinart Grind & Brew Single-Serve: best fit for one mug

This machine grinds enough beans for one mug directly into a reusable capsule. You then load that capsule into the brewer, making the routine two steps rather than a single press-and-walk-away operation. It also accepts K-Cups and offers 8-, 10-, and 12-ounce brew sizes. The 48-ounce water tank detaches for refilling.

Good Housekeeping reported a satisfying, medium-bodied cup and intuitive controls. For a household that mainly wants one freshly ground mug at a time, the format avoids brewing a pot; the extra capsule-handling step is the cost of that workflow.

De’Longhi TrueBrew Drip Coffee Maker: best fit for serving-size flexibility

TrueBrew has a built-in burr grinder and six serving sizes, from 8 to 24 ounces. A thermal-carafe version brews a 40-ounce pot. It can also make a 3-ounce espresso-style concentrated coffee for drinks such as Americanos and cappuccinos. That concentrate is not true espresso, so choose another machine if traditional espresso is the requirement.

Good Housekeeping reports that the machine brewed flavorful coffee quickly in its lab evaluation, but describes it as bulky and relatively expensive. The range of servings is useful if your routine varies; measure the available counter space and weigh the added size and cost before choosing it.

Capresso CoffeeTeam TS: best fit for a thermal-carafe routine

Good Housekeeping reports that this machine brewed some of the hottest coffee in its test group while staying within the ideal brewing temperature range. It combines a thermal carafe with a conical burr grinder, five grind settings, and a six-ounce hopper.

The grinder settings are unlabeled, and the reviewer found limited difference between the smallest and largest settings. That makes it less suitable for someone who wants precise, repeatable grind adjustments, even though its thermal-carafe setup may appeal to people who prioritize hot coffee.

What the product evaluations establish

Good Housekeeping says its Kitchen & Cooking Lab collected and analyzed more than 270 data points for its 2026 evaluation. The publication says its process includes brewing at least two full pots in drip machines; recording brew time, temperature, and how long coffee stays warm; sensory taste tests; evaluating ease of use; and measuring grinder particle size, uniformity, consistency, hopper access, loudness, and grind options. These findings belong to Good Housekeeping’s test group and are not results from testing conducted for this article. Its roundup was updated September 24, 2026.
