Firefighting Simulator – The Squad is the closest current substitute for Rescue Ops: Wildfire if you want serious co-op firefighting. It puts you in a large U.S. city, assigns civilian rescues and fire suppression tasks, and supports you with licensed Rosenbauer trucks and realistic fire behavior. Choose Embr instead for a funny four-player session, or wishlist Firefighting Simulator: Ignite if modern, crew-based realism matters more than playing immediately.

What Rescue Ops: Wildfire is setting out to deliver

Rescue Ops: Wildfire is presented as a wildland-firefighting simulation rather than a conventional urban fire-response game. Its core promise is to put you in the middle of large, dynamic megafires, with specialized vehicles, civilian rescue and either solo or cooperative play. That combination matters when choosing a stopgap: most firefighting games concentrate on buildings and city streets, while Rescue Ops is aimed at the scale, movement and uncertainty of a wildfire.

The game remains an upcoming or in-development project in the available official material, so there is no dependable release date to plan around here. The alternatives below are therefore split into two groups: games you can play now (where the listed platform is available in your region) and a newer realism-focused option to monitor as its release information becomes clearer.

1. Firefighting Simulator – The Squad: the closest realistic substitute

If your priority is a grounded teamwork loop rather than comedy, start here. Firefighting Simulator – The Squad was listed for release on 17 November 2020 by Valve, Chronos Unterhaltungssoftware and astragon Entertainment. Its premise is direct: become part of a major U.S. city’s firefighting crew, work alone or with up to three friends, and handle incidents from inside the truck and on foot.

Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.

  • Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
  • Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
  • 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.

Why it matches the serious side of Rescue Ops

The Squad gives you the operational rhythm that many players are looking for while waiting: arrive at an incident, select equipment, enter a hazardous structure, locate people, suppress the fire and coordinate your return to safety. Its civilian-rescue focus also overlaps with Rescue Ops, even though the environments are urban rather than wildland.

The game includes five licensed Rosenbauer America fire trucks. That licensing is more than cosmetic context: the trucks make the response phase feel like part of the job, with vehicle choice and equipment access integrated into the mission rather than treated as a disconnected menu.

Fire behavior and incident variety

The Nintendo Switch listing describes simulation of water, smoke and heat, along with dangerous events such as backdrafts and flashovers. It also identifies grease, electrical and chemical fires and explosions. Those hazards create different priorities: a grease fire is not approached like an electrical fire, and a smoke-filled room can become more dangerous when heat and ventilation change.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Do not read this as a wildland simulator. The Squad’s main arena is a large U.S. city, with structure fires and street-based response. You will not get the same moving-front megafire or specialized wildland-vehicle emphasis that defines Rescue Ops: Wildfire. It is the best match for procedural, hands-on urban firefighting, not for reproducing a forest-fire campaign.

Co-op size and platform choice

The listed online mode supports up to three friends, making a four-person party including the host. Nintendo’s listing confirms a Switch edition with the same “up to three friends” co-op description. The Steam listing provides the 2020 release information and the core co-op and single-player premise.

Who should choose The Squad

  • Players who want the most realistic currently released alternative in this group.
  • Groups of two to four who enjoy assigning roles and communicating under pressure.
  • Readers searching specifically for a realistic firefighting simulator with co-op.
  • Switch owners looking for a firefighting game on Switch with cooperative play.

2. Embr: the best four-player firefighting game for comic chaos

Embr takes the opposite approach. The developer calls it an online co-op multiplayer game for up to four players, using player-hosted servers. Its alternate-present premise turns emergency response into a frantic service job: extinguish fires, save people, recover valuable goods and spend earnings on tool upgrades.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

How its tone changes the experience

Embr is intentionally a firefighting (un)simulator. The objective is still recognizable—reach the emergency, deal with flames and get people out—but the presentation is exaggerated and comedic. Mistakes, improvised routes and frantic tool use are part of the entertainment rather than failures of realism.

That makes it a better fit for a group that wants quick, funny sessions than for anyone studying real incident procedure. You can still coordinate entry points and rescue priorities, but the game rewards experimentation and speed instead of asking you to reproduce a professional department’s workflow.

Why the four-player cap matters

Embr supports up to four players, one more player than The Squad’s “up to three friends” arrangement when counting the host. That extra place can decide which game works for a regular group. The developer’s player-hosted-server model also means one member of the party is responsible for creating the session; confirm that the host can run the game and that everyone is using a supported platform edition.

Platforms and session planning

The official site links versions for Steam, PlayStation 4, Xbox and Nintendo Switch. The supplied platform information does not confirm cross-play, so do not assume a PC player can automatically join a console-hosted session. Check the current platform listing for your region before buying.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Who should choose Embr

  • Groups of four that want a dedicated four-player firefighting game.
  • Players who prefer comedy, improvisation and short, energetic missions.
  • Friends who enjoy upgrading tools and chasing rescue or salvage objectives.
  • Anyone who finds procedural simulation too deliberate for a casual evening.

3. Firefighting Simulator: Ignite: a newer realism-focused option to watch

Firefighting Simulator: Ignite is aimed at players who want a modern presentation and a crew-centered approach. Its official description places you in the boots of a U.S. firefighter, facing unpredictable dangers while fire, heat and smoke are simulated in real time. It also highlights a hydraulic rescue tool for opening crashed vehicles.

What distinguishes Ignite

The combination of dynamic fire conditions and vehicle-extrication equipment broadens the mission beyond putting out flames. A crashed-car rescue requires a different response from a room fire: access, stabilization and opening the vehicle become central tasks. Real-time fire, heat and smoke are intended to make the scene change as the crew works, which should appeal to players who want more than a fixed set of burning objects.

Availability caveat

The official site links Steam and Epic Games purchases, but release status and regional storefront availability can change. Check the current store page before treating it as an immediately playable replacement. If it is not released in your region or is still listed for a future launch, wishlist it and use The Squad or Embr in the meantime.

Who should choose Ignite

  • Players who want a newer realism-oriented game rather than a comedic interpretation.
  • Groups interested in crew coordination and vehicle-rescue scenarios.
  • Anyone willing to monitor storefront status instead of needing a game tonight.

Which game is right for your group?

You want a serious substitute right now

Choose The Squad. Its urban setting is the main compromise, but its licensed trucks, civilian rescues and modeled fire hazards provide the most convincing currently listed approximation of working as a firefighting crew.

You want to recreate wildfire scale

None of these alternatives is a direct wildland equivalent. Rescue Ops: Wildfire is the only title in the comparison explicitly centered on dynamic megafires and specialized wildland vehicles. Use The Squad to practice structured urban response, but do not expect its building-focused missions to reproduce a moving forest fire.

You have four players and want everyone involved

Pick Embr. Its advertised four-player limit gives a full group a place without rotating one friend out. The trade-off is tone: the game is deliberately chaotic and does not aim for the procedural realism of The Squad.

You want a newer simulation to follow

Keep Ignite on your shortlist. Its real-time fire, heat and smoke systems and hydraulic rescue tool point toward a broader modern simulation, but verify its current release and regional availability before making it your only plan.

You play primarily on Nintendo Switch

The Squad has a Nintendo Switch edition listed with co-op for up to three friends. Embr also has a Switch version linked by its developer. Compare the current store pages for performance, local or online mode details and any edition-specific limitations; the supplied listings do not establish that every feature is identical across platforms.

How to choose and organize a co-op session

  1. Count the players. For a party of four, Embr is the only option here that explicitly advertises up to four players. The Squad supports the host plus up to three friends, which is also four people total; make sure everyone understands that wording.
  2. Agree on realism. Select The Squad or Ignite for a realism-focused evening. Select Embr when the group wants jokes, improvisation and less concern about authentic procedure.
  3. Match the setting to expectations. Tell friends that The Squad is urban and that Ignite is centered on a U.S. city fire department. Neither has been described as a wildland-megafire game.
  4. Confirm the platform edition. The Squad is listed on Steam and Switch. Embr is linked for Steam, PlayStation 4, Xbox and Switch. Ignite’s official site links Steam and Epic Games. Check the current store page for your region.
  5. Check the session host. Embr explicitly uses player-hosted servers. Have the person with the most reliable connection host, and confirm that every player can join that platform’s online service.
  6. Set a fallback. If Ignite’s release status is not current in your region, schedule The Squad for a serious session or Embr for a four-player casual session instead.

What each game can and cannot replace

The scale problem

Rescue Ops: Wildfire is defined by megafires and specialized wildland vehicles. The Squad’s five licensed trucks and city incidents offer equipment detail, but they do not change the setting from urban structure response to wildfire suppression. Embr’s missions are even further from that simulation target because its premise is intentionally comic.

  • What You Get: Anker 332 USB-C Hub (5-in-1), welcome guide, our worry-free 18-month warranty, and friendly customer service.

The teamwork problem

All three alternatives can support cooperation, but they ask for different kinds of teamwork. The Squad emphasizes coordinated response and hazard management. Embr emphasizes rapid role switching, improvisation and upgrading tools. Ignite advertises crew coordination alongside dynamic environmental hazards, though the exact release feature set should be checked on the current store listing.

The availability problem

The Squad has the clearest established release information: 17 November 2020, with Steam and Switch listings. Embr’s developer links several platform versions. Ignite has Steam and Epic links, but its current release state may vary by region and date. Rescue Ops itself should be treated as the game you are waiting for, not as an immediately available substitute.

Bottom line: the best pick by player type

  • Best overall realistic substitute: Firefighting Simulator – The Squad.
  • Best for four friends and comic chaos: Embr.
  • Best newer realism option to monitor: Firefighting Simulator: Ignite.
  • Best match for wildland megafires: Rescue Ops: Wildfire itself; none of the available alternatives reproduces that setting.
