Short answer: The Logitech G305 LIGHTSPEED is the safest budget wireless starting point for many Fortnite players because it combines a HERO sensor, broad sensitivity adjustment and long advertised battery life. Choose the HyperX Pulsefire Haste 2 Core Wireless if low weight and two wireless modes matter more. Choose a wired mouse such as the HyperX Pulsefire Core or Glorious Model O Eternal if you want to avoid batteries and wireless connections. None of these models has been established as a Fortnite winner in head-to-head testing, so shape, hand size, grip, weight and current local price should decide your purchase.

This guide separates documented specifications from practical selection advice. Product weights and battery figures are manufacturer or publisher specifications, not measurements from an independent Fortnite test.

Quick comparison: four inexpensive Fortnite candidates

Mouse Connection Documented specifications Most suitable when
Logitech G305 LIGHTSPEED Wireless HERO sensor; 200–12,000 DPI; up to 250 hours on one AA battery; 99 g with battery You want a conventional budget wireless mouse and long battery life
HyperX Pulsefire Haste 2 Core Wireless 2.4 GHz wireless and Bluetooth 5.2 70 g operating weight; up to 100 hours of gaming performance; six buttons; up to 1,000 Hz polling You prioritize a lighter body and flexible wireless connectivity
HyperX Pulsefire Core Wired 87 g; Pixart 3327 sensor; up to 6,200 DPI; seven programmable buttons You prefer a wired setup and want an extra programmable button
Glorious Model O Eternal Wired 55 g; 12,000 DPI; 1,000 Hz polling You want the lightest documented option among these wired choices

What matters more than a high DPI number

Fortnite rewards consistent camera control, quick building and editing inputs, and a setup you can use comfortably for long sessions. A mouse specification can describe capability, but it cannot tell you whether the shell suits your hand.

  • The durable, compact design with built-in nano receiver storage makes G305 not just a great portable desktop mouse, but also a great laptop travel companion, use with a gaming laptop and play anywhere

Shape and hand size

The G305 uses an egg-shaped body. That shape can feel natural for some palm and claw grips, while players with very large hands may prefer a longer shell. The right question is whether your fingers can reach the primary buttons without stretching and whether the rear of the shell supports your palm without forcing your wrist into an awkward angle.

Grip style

  • Palm grip: Most of your hand rests on the shell. A fuller rear section and enough length to support the palm are usually more important than shaving every gram.
  • Claw grip: Your palm touches the rear while your fingers arch over the buttons. A firm center section and reachable side buttons help when you alternate between aiming and building.
  • Fingertip grip: Only your fingertips contact the mouse. Low weight and easy repositioning can matter, but a shell that is too small may make your hand tense.

These are selection guidelines, not a guarantee that one shape will suit every player. If possible, compare the mouse with a familiar device or use a retailer’s return policy to verify the fit.

Weight and control

Weight changes how much force you need to start, stop and reposition the mouse. A heavier mouse can feel planted; a lighter model can be easier to lift and move repeatedly across a large sensitivity range. The published 99 g figure for the G305 includes its battery, while the Haste 2 Core Wireless is listed at 70 g operating weight. The wired choices are listed at 87 g for the Pulsefire Core and 55 g for the Model O Eternal. Treat those figures as useful comparisons, not proof that the lightest option will improve your aim.

Buttons and placement

Fortnite players often map extra buttons to building, editing, inventory or communication actions, but button count is only useful if you can reach the buttons without accidental presses. The Haste 2 Core Wireless has six buttons; the Pulsefire Core has seven programmable buttons. A simpler layout may be preferable if you want fewer opportunities to hit the wrong command during a fight.

Logitech G305 LIGHTSPEED: the balanced budget wireless pick

For a first wireless gaming mouse, the G305 LIGHTSPEED is the most straightforward candidate in this group. Logitech specifies a HERO optical sensor with an adjustable range from 200 to 12,000 DPI and advertises up to 250 hours of operation from one AA battery. PC Gamer’s coverage reports a 99 g weight with the battery installed. RTINGS names the G305 its budget wireless recommendation for most people and describes the body as egg-shaped.

Why it fits a budget Fortnite setup

  • No cable across the pad: Wireless operation removes cable drag from the desk, which can be useful when you make wide low-sensitivity movements.
  • Simple battery logistics: One replaceable AA cell avoids charging downtime. The advertised 250-hour figure is a manufacturer claim and will vary with use and settings.
  • Broad adjustment range: The 200–12,000 DPI range gives you room to tune sensitivity, but maximum DPI is not a performance ranking.
  • Mature shape: Its conventional shell is easier to recommend sight unseen than an aggressively sculpted design, although hand fit still decides whether it is comfortable.

What to check before buying

The G305 is heavier than the two lightweight alternatives listed here, especially once its AA battery is installed. If you prefer very fast, low-effort repositioning, hold a similar-weight mouse first or choose the lighter Haste 2 Core Wireless or Model O Eternal. Also verify the current price, included receiver arrangement and stock in your region; the dated sale price covered by PC Gamer should not be treated as a current price.

HyperX Pulsefire Haste 2 Core Wireless: lighter and dual-mode

The Pulsefire Haste 2 Core Wireless is the clearest alternative when the G305’s weight or single wireless mode does not fit your desk. HyperX lists a 70 g operating weight, 2.4 GHz wireless, Bluetooth 5.2, up to 100 hours of gaming performance, six buttons and polling of up to 1,000 Hz.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Where it makes sense

  • Lower operating weight: At 70 g, it is substantially lighter than the G305 figure reported with a battery, which may make repeated lifts and quick repositioning feel less tiring.
  • Two connection choices: Use 2.4 GHz for a dedicated gaming connection or Bluetooth when convenience and device switching matter more.
  • Long sessions between charges: HyperX’s up-to-100-hour figure is a stated gaming-performance rating, not an independently verified Fortnite runtime.

Important price qualification

The HyperX product page reviewed for this guide showed $69.43 in its regional presentation. That is not a universal or permanent price. Confirm the currency, shipping cost and availability for your country before deciding whether its lighter body justifies the difference from a discounted G305 or a wired model.

  • Play Longer : With 60-90 hours battery life and LIGHTSPEED Wireless, this rechargeable gaming mouse(with included USB-A to USB-C cable) delivers lag-free 8 kHz polling for uninterrupted focus

Wired alternatives: when a cable is the better trade

A wired mouse removes battery management and wireless pairing from the decision. The tradeoff is cable drag and the need to route the cable so it does not catch on the edge of the desk or monitor stand.

HyperX Pulsefire Core

HyperX lists the Pulsefire Core at 87 g with a Pixart 3327 sensor, up to 6,200 DPI and seven programmable buttons. It is a sensible choice when you want a conventional wired connection and more programmable inputs than the Haste 2 Core Wireless. Its specifications do not establish a Fortnite advantage, so evaluate the shell, button reach and local price rather than selecting it for the DPI number.

Glorious Model O Eternal

PC Gamer’s deals coverage describes the Model O Eternal as a wired value option and lists 55 g, 12,000 DPI and 1,000 Hz polling. That makes it the lightest documented mouse in this comparison. The same coverage is deal-oriented, so price and availability can change; verify both before ordering. A 55 g body may appeal to fingertip or claw users who move the mouse frequently, while some palm-grip players may prefer a fuller, heavier shell.

Wireless versus wired for Fortnite

Priority Wireless choice Wired choice
Desk freedom No cable crossing the pad Requires cable routing and enough slack
Power management G305 uses one AA battery; Haste 2 Core Wireless has a stated up-to-100-hour gaming rating No battery charging or replacement
Connection flexibility G305 is wireless; Haste 2 Core Wireless supports 2.4 GHz and Bluetooth 5.2 Direct USB connection
Weight options in this group 99 g with battery for G305; 70 g operating weight for Haste 2 Core Wireless 87 g Pulsefire Core; 55 g Model O Eternal

Choose wireless if cable movement is a persistent annoyance and you are willing to manage a battery or charging routine. Choose wired if you want the simplest connection, the lowest ongoing maintenance and the best chance of finding a lighter model at a lower sale price.

DPI, sensitivity and polling rate: how to interpret the numbers

DPI is an adjustment range, not a quality score

Logitech’s buying guide explains DPI as the mouse’s sensitivity setting. A larger maximum lets you select a wider range, but Fortnite performance depends on the sensitivity you can control consistently, not on selecting the largest available number. The G305 and Model O Eternal both reach 12,000 DPI, while the Pulsefire Core reaches 6,200 DPI; those figures alone do not identify the better mouse.

Polling rate has a measurable but limited practical payoff

Polling rate describes how often the mouse reports its position to the computer. The Haste 2 Core Wireless and Model O Eternal are listed at up to 1,000 Hz. RTINGS notes that higher polling rates can produce measurable improvements, while the real-world benefit in games may be minimal. Treat 1,000 Hz as a specification to compare alongside comfort, sensor behavior and connection reliability, not as a guarantee of smoother Fortnite play.

How to choose in five steps

  1. Measure your hand and identify your grip. Note whether you use palm, claw or fingertip contact and whether your current mouse feels too short, too narrow or too heavy.
  2. Set your connection preference. Select wireless if cable drag is a problem; select wired if you do not want batteries, charging or pairing.
  3. Choose a weight direction. Pick the 70 g Haste 2 Core Wireless or 55 g Model O Eternal if low weight is a priority; consider the 99 g-with-battery G305 or 87 g Pulsefire Core if you prefer a more substantial feel.
  4. Count only useful buttons. Decide which Fortnite actions you would actually map, then check whether the side buttons are reachable without changing your grip.
  5. Confirm the transaction details. Check the current local price, return policy, warranty terms, stock and included accessories. Do not use an old deal price as a budget benchmark.

Setup checklist after purchase

  1. Connect the mouse by its intended wireless receiver, Bluetooth mode or USB cable, then confirm that the operating system detects it.
  2. Install the manufacturer’s configuration software only if you need to change DPI stages, button assignments, lighting or polling settings.
  3. Start with one comfortable sensitivity setting instead of changing it after every match. Make small adjustments only after you know whether the problem is sensitivity, grip or fatigue.
  4. Map extra buttons to actions you can reach reliably. Remove mappings that cause accidental presses during building or editing.
  5. Route a wired cable with enough slack for a full swipe, or place the wireless receiver where the mouse has a clear path to it.
  6. Play several sessions before judging comfort. Pay attention to wrist tension, finger stretch, accidental side-button presses and how often you must lift the mouse.

Common buying mistakes and fixes

Choosing by maximum DPI

Problem: A 12,000 DPI label looks better than 6,200 DPI. Fix: Treat DPI as available adjustment range and prioritize control at your chosen sensitivity.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Assuming lighter is always better

Problem: The lightest mouse is purchased without considering shell size or grip. Fix: Match weight to the amount of lifting you do and the support your hand needs.

Ignoring battery details

Problem: Wireless convenience becomes frustrating when the mouse runs out of power. Fix: Decide whether replacing one AA cell or maintaining a rechargeable routine fits your habits; a wired model avoids this issue.

Buying a dated deal

Problem: An old sale price is treated as today’s market price. Fix: Check the retailer or manufacturer listing in your country on the day you buy.

Expecting specifications to prove Fortnite superiority

Problem: A sensor, polling rate or button count is taken as evidence of better match results. Fix: No Fortnite-specific head-to-head result is established for these models. Use comfort, consistency and reliable inputs as your decision criteria.

Which mouse should you buy?

  • Buy the Logitech G305 LIGHTSPEED if you want the most balanced budget wireless starting point, prefer a familiar egg-shaped shell and value the manufacturer’s long one-AA battery claim.
  • Buy the HyperX Pulsefire Haste 2 Core Wireless if reducing weight and having both 2.4 GHz and Bluetooth are more important than minimizing purchase price.
  • Buy the HyperX Pulsefire Core if you want a wired mouse with seven programmable buttons and a moderate published weight.
  • Buy the Glorious Model O Eternal if a very light wired design is your priority and its current price and stock work in your market.

When two options are close in price, choose the one whose shape matches your hand and whose buttons you can reach without shifting your grip. That decision is more defensible than paying extra for a larger DPI or polling-rate number.
