The main system consideration is lens choice: the selection of RF-mount APS-C lenses is comparatively limited. When the EOS R100 makes sense
The R100 is worth considering if you want a new mirrorless body and the R50 is beyond your budget. It gives up convenience and flexibility: it lacks an articulated touchscreen, and its 4K features are limited. If you photograph mostly still subjects and are comfortable with a fixed screen and simpler operation, those compromises may matter less.

Its limitations are substantial compared with newer mirrorless designs: autofocus is older, the screen is fixed, and video tops out at Full HD rather than 4K. The same camera is called the EOS 2000D in Europe and the EOS 1500D in Australasia, so check the regional model name when comparing listings. How to choose by what you shoot
Travel, landscapes, and deliberate still photography
For scenes that do not move quickly, the R100’s simpler autofocus may be adequate. The R50’s articulated screen can be more convenient for framing at unusual angles. The T7 is another option if an optical viewfinder is more important to you than a modern screen or compact mirrorless setup.

Autofocus tracking matters more when a subject moves unpredictably. The R50 is the strongest-supported choice among these cameras for that use, while the R100’s lower RTINGS sports-and-wildlife category rating indicates a weaker fit in that guide. Ratings are one reviewer’s category assessments, not a substitute for checking how a camera handles the specific subjects you photograph.
Video and flexible framing
The R50 offers the most capable video feature set among these options. The R100’s 4K is limited, and the T7 records Full HD rather than 4K. If video is your primary goal, compare creator-oriented cameras as well; a still-photography recommendation is not automatically the best video camera.
