Start with Medium at your monitor’s native resolution. Move to Low if frame pacing breaks up during crowded fights or local co-op, then try High only after Low or Medium is consistently smooth. Castlebound currently documents only three graphics presets—Low, Medium, and High—so there is no evidence-based per-option tuning order or guaranteed frame-rate target yet.
This guide explains what is known, how to choose a preset safely, what your PC must provide, and how to troubleshoot stutter without inventing specifications that have not been published.
What the current PC settings actually include
Ogre Pixel’s August 14, 2025 Steam announcement identifies three selectable quality levels in the settings menu:

The available documentation does not identify separate controls for resolution scaling, V-Sync, frame caps, anti-aliasing, shadows, effects, textures, view distance, or post-processing. Do not assume that a setting exists, or that changing one particular effect will fix a problem, until the release build exposes and labels it.

Castlebound is described as a one-to-four-player action platformer with roguelike elements in which players defend a walking castle. That design matters for testing: a scene that feels smooth alone may have different frame pacing when several players, enemies, and effects appear together.
Recommended starting configuration
1. Select Medium first
- Launch Castlebound and open the settings menu.
- Choose the graphics or quality section.
- Select Medium.
- Keep the display at your monitor’s native resolution unless you have a specific reason to change it.
- Apply the setting and play a representative section rather than judging only the title screen or a quiet area.
Medium is an editorial starting recommendation, not a developer benchmark. It gives you a neutral reference point between the two documented extremes without implying a particular frame rate.
2. Test the situations that expose problems
Play through an enemy-heavy encounter and, if possible, a local co-op session. Watch for uneven motion, delayed input, or repeated pauses rather than relying only on an FPS counter. Frame pacing can feel poor even when an average frame-rate number looks acceptable.

3. Drop to Low when pacing is inconsistent
If movement becomes uneven during heavy combat or co-op, return to the settings menu and choose Low. This is the first supported performance change because it reduces the overall quality preset without requiring undocumented individual controls. Test the same type of encounter again so the comparison is meaningful.

4. Try High only with proven headroom
If Low and Medium remain smooth in the busiest situations you can reproduce, test High. Keep High only if the game still feels consistent when the screen is crowded. A quiet opening area is not sufficient evidence that High will hold up throughout a run.
How to get better performance without guessing at hidden options
Use repeatable comparisons
Change one documented control at a time. Record the preset, display resolution, operating system, processor, graphics hardware, memory, and the scene you tested. Returning to the same encounter after each change makes it easier to distinguish a real improvement from normal variation.
Prioritize frame-time stability over a single number
No official target frame rate or published benchmark is available. Consequently, this guide does not promise a particular FPS at 1080p, 1440p, or 4K. Judge whether camera movement, character control, and combat remain even. If a counter is available on your system, use it as supporting information rather than as a guarantee of playability.
Retest solo and co-op separately
Castlebound supports one to four players. A preset that is comfortable in a solo run may not be comfortable when multiple players and enemies are active. Keep separate notes for solo play and the largest local session you intend to use.

Do not invent an optimization order
Because the published material does not enumerate shadows, effects, textures, anti-aliasing, resolution scaling, V-Sync, or frame limits, there is no supported order such as “disable shadows first” or “lower textures before resolution.” If a future build adds those controls, document the exact labels and test each change independently.
Can your PC run Castlebound?
The official Steam listing currently gives this Windows baseline:

Meeting these figures does not establish a guaranteed frame rate. They are a published baseline, not a performance certification, and no recommended PC specification has been released. In particular, there is no defensible answer yet to “What GPU do I need?” beyond noting that the official listing has not named one.

Checking your Windows hardware
- Press
Windows+R, entermsinfo32, and press Enter to view Windows version, processor, and installed memory. - Press
Windows+R, enterdxdiag, and press Enter to inspect the Display tab for the installed graphics device. - Compare the operating system, CPU, and RAM with the published baseline before troubleshooting game settings.
- Check the drive containing the game and leave free space beyond the stated 1,000 MB so Windows and game updates are not forced into a nearly full volume.
These Windows tools identify your hardware; they do not predict Castlebound’s final performance because the developer has not published a GPU requirement or benchmark.

Troubleshooting stutter and uneven play
When the PC meets the baseline but combat stutters
- Confirm that the game is using the intended Windows display and that no other application is consuming an unusual amount of CPU, GPU, or memory.
- Set Castlebound to Medium at native resolution and reproduce the same busy encounter.
- Switch to Low and repeat the encounter.
- If Low improves consistency, keep Low for demanding sessions; the evidence currently supports preset changes, not a specific hidden option.
- If Low does not improve the problem, record the scene, number of players, operating system, CPU, GPU, RAM, resolution, and preset. That information is more useful for a future patch report than an unrepeatable “it feels slow” description.
When only co-op sessions feel uneven
Test the same area alone. If solo play is smooth but a larger local session is not, use Low for co-op and retain Medium for solo play if that split suits you. The difference may reflect the additional on-screen activity, but current documentation does not identify a specific bottleneck or quantify the effect.
When changing presets appears to do nothing
- Apply the setting through the game’s menu and confirm that it persists after returning to play.
- Compare identical scenes rather than a quiet area against a crowded fight.
- Allow for normal variation between encounters; one brief hitch is not a benchmark.
- Check whether the issue is input delay, network behavior, display refresh, or a game pause rather than graphics rendering. The available Castlebound documentation does not provide a diagnostic matrix for those symptoms.
When the PC is below the published baseline
A system below Windows 10, below the stated 3.2 GHz Core i3 class, or with less than 8 GB of RAM is outside the documented minimum. The absence of a GPU requirement means you cannot use the official listing to determine whether a particular older graphics chip will work. The practical option is to wait for fuller requirements or a release build that can be tested on the hardware; do not treat Low as a guarantee for an under-spec system.

Several common PC-gaming questions remain unanswered in the official material:
- No minimum or recommended GPU model is listed.
- No target frame rate or measured FPS result is published.
- No recommended CPU, RAM amount above the minimum, or storage guidance beyond 1,000 MB is published.
- No detailed list of graphics controls is available beyond Low, Medium, and High.
- No official performance comparison between presets, resolutions, solo play, and four-player sessions is available.
Do not convert these gaps into invented numbers or hardware recommendations. A future patch note, updated store listing, or release build may add the missing information.

How to create a useful performance report
If you encounter a problem or want to compare settings with another player, use a consistent record:

This record makes later comparisons reproducible without implying that one person’s result is an official benchmark.
Release timing and changing requirements
The Steam Community page currently lists Castlebound as coming to Steam, Nintendo Switch, and Nintendo Switch 2 on November 11, 2026. That is a planned date and may change. Requirements and settings can also change before release, so recheck the official store and community listings when the game launches or receives a major update.
