The Hisense HS2100 is a useful starting point if you want a low-cost TV soundbar with a separate subwoofer: RTINGS describes it as a 2.1-channel system priced around $100, with natural-sounding dialogue and instruments. It is not a guaranteed lowest-price deal, and its surround effect is limited because it has no satellite speakers. If you would rather avoid a separate bass box, consider a standalone bar such as the Sony HT-S100F or TCL S45H, accepting less low-frequency impact.
Prices and availability change, so check the exact model and current checkout total. The right choice also depends on whether your TV has HDMI ARC/eARC or optical audio, how much room is available beneath the screen, and whether you want a subwoofer or rear speakers.
Which inexpensive soundbar fits your setup?
| Soundbar | Best fit | What to know |
|---|---|---|
| Hisense HS2100 | Low-cost upgrade with a separate subwoofer | RTINGS describes it as a 2.1-channel system around $100. It reports natural dialogue and instruments, but says treble can sound harsh at high volume and the surround presentation is not immersive without satellite speakers. RTINGS budget soundbar guide |
| Sony HT-S100F | Strict budget and a simple bar without a separate subwoofer | RTINGS says it is often under $100, though its price fluctuates above that. The trade-offs include less bass and no DTS support. RTINGS soundbars under $100 |
| Roku Streambar | Very compact soundbar with built-in Roku streaming features | RTINGS says its price fluctuates around $100. Its under-$200 guide says the discontinued original Streambar was replaced by Streambar SE in August 2026; check the exact generation before buying. The SE is smaller and cheaper, with format and loudness compromises. RTINGS soundbars under $100 and RTINGS soundbars under $200 |
| TCL S45H | Standalone stereo bar for dialogue-heavy viewing | RTINGS notes limited bass and surround performance. It supports Dolby Atmos, but the guide says Atmos is downmixed rather than reproduced as discrete surround speakers. RTINGS soundbars under $100 |
| VIZIO S-Series | Shoppers comparing different channel layouts | VIZIO’s official listings span 2.0, 2.1, 4.1, and 5.1 layouts. The page displayed a $69.99 starting price when accessed; that is a snapshot, not a guaranteed checkout price. HDMI is not included on every model, so verify the exact SKU and connections. | Yamaha B200A | Compact all-in-one option with built-in bass and voice features | Yamaha lists Clear Voice, Bluetooth, HDMI eARC/ARC, optical and AUX connections, and says an HDMI cable and wall-mount hardware are included. No current price or independent budget ranking is established here; compare its live price with the alternatives. Yamaha B200A |

What a subwoofer changes
Choose a separate subwoofer for stronger bass impact
A 2.1 system pairs the soundbar with a separate subwoofer. RTINGS says the HS2100’s subwoofer adds bass to action scenes and energetic basslines. That extra low-frequency impact comes with another box to place, so make sure your room has space for it.

Choose a standalone bar to keep setup compact
A single bar takes less floor space and avoids positioning a separate subwoofer. The trade-off is generally less deep bass. A standalone bar can improve everyday TV listening, but its channel or virtual-surround labels do not mean it has rear speakers around the room.
Do not equate format support with an immersive surround system
At this price, support for a surround format does not guarantee a convincing surround stage. The HS2100 has no satellite speakers, and RTINGS notes that stereo models may downmix surround formats. Consumer Reports’ 2026 budget-list search excerpt says only one model on that publication’s list is a complete 5.1-channel system; that count applies only to its list, not the whole market. - Simplified 5.1ch Dolby Atmos Setup: Enjoy immersive 4D sound with real Dolby Atmos and 5.1-channel audio. Five built-in speakers, including two side-firing drivers, create wide surround without rear speakers. Precision DSP ensures <0.5 ms latency for smooth, theater-like sound. Setup takes less than 1 minute.
- Voice Clarity Enhancement: VoiceMX technology uses advanced DSP algorithms to isolate and enhance vocal frequencies in real time. Dialogue remains crisp and easy to follow by separating speech from background effects and music, even at low volumes or during intense scenes.
- 300W Output with 6-Driver System: Featuring five precision-tuned full-range drivers and a dedicated wired wooden subwoofer, the system delivers up to 300W of peak power for bold, room-filling sound. With a frequency response of 45 Hz–18 kHz and a maximum SPL of 99 dB, it reproduces everything from subtle nuances to explosive cinematic effects.
- 18 mm High-Excursion Driver: Powered by BassMX technology, the wired wooden subwoofer features a 18 mm high-excursion driver, a 5.3L tuned cabinet, and a high-density magnetic circuit. This design delivers deeper, tighter bass with greater air displacement and enhanced low-frequency performance—bringing more realism to every scene.
- HDMI eARC for True Dolby Atmos: HDMI eARC supports up to 37 Mbps of bandwidth, unlocking the full potential of lossless Dolby Atmos 5.1-channel audio. Compared to standard ARC, eARC delivers richer surround effects and greater detail. CEC integration allows the TV and soundbar to work together with unified control.
Check fit, connections, and total cost before buying
- Total cost: Check the live price and include taxes, shipping, and any cable or accessory you need. The HS2100’s approximately $100 description and VIZIO’s displayed $69.99 starting price are guide or page snapshots, not guaranteed current prices.
- Physical fit: Compare the bar’s width and height with the space in front of or below the TV. If choosing a subwoofer, consider where it can sit. Check whether rear satellites are included if you want speakers behind your seating position.
- Listening habits: If dialogue is your priority, look for voice features and review notes about speech clarity. If you listen loudly, take note of reports about harshness at high volume, such as RTINGS’ observation about the HS2100’s treble.
- Exact ports: Check the connection panel on both the TV and the specific soundbar model. HDMI is not available on every VIZIO S-Series SKU, and features can differ within a product family.
- Channels and formats: Confirm the actual speaker layout and supported formats. Virtualized or downmixed surround is not the same as a system with separate rear speakers.
Connect a soundbar to the TV
When both devices have HDMI ARC, one HDMI cable can carry TV audio to the soundbar and support TV-remote volume and mute control when CEC/system-audio control is enabled. Roku Support explains that ARC uses two-way communication to send sound to an AVR or soundbar while picture is sent to a Roku TV. Enhanced eARC operation requires eARC support on both devices; Roku says ARC is available on its TV models, while eARC appears only on select models. Roku Support: HDMI ARC and eARC
- Check both devices: Find an HDMI port labeled ARC or eARC on the TV and a matching HDMI ARC/eARC connection on the soundbar. Use optical audio instead if the devices lack a compatible HDMI connection but both offer optical ports.
- Connect the cable: Connect the TV’s ARC/eARC port to the soundbar’s ARC/eARC port. For eARC benefits, both endpoints must support eARC.
- Enable audio control: Turn on CEC or system-audio control in the TV settings if you want the TV remote to adjust soundbar volume and mute. Labels and menus vary by TV.
- Test playback and control: Select the soundbar or external audio output in the TV’s sound settings, then play TV audio and check volume and mute from the remote. If there is no sound, recheck the selected output, cable connection, and ARC/eARC compatibility.
Optical is a useful alternative for compatible setups, but it does not provide HDMI ARC’s two-way control behavior. Check your TV and soundbar manuals for their supported connection modes.
