There is no single best budget soundbar for every TV or room. Choose a compact standalone bar if space and simplicity matter most; look for a model with a subwoofer or separate rear speakers if you want stronger bass or more convincing surround. Because the title does not specify a country or price ceiling—and prices and stock change—treat these models as a shortlist, then check current local listings and your TV’s connections before buying.
Budget soundbar picks by need
The picks below reflect the cited guides’ descriptions, not a live price or availability check. “Budget” covers different price tiers: a system called budget in a broader guide may cost more than an under-$100 option. Confirm the exact model, local price, included components, and warranty before purchase.
| Model | Configuration and connections | Best fit and trade-off |
|---|---|---|
| Hisense AX5140Q | 5.1.4 system with a discrete subwoofer, wireless satellites, and up-firing drivers. RTINGS named it its best budget soundbar tested in its 2026 guide; the guide says price fluctuations led it to replace its previous pick on March 20, 2026. RTINGS budget guide | Consider it if you want a fuller surround and height-speaker setup, rather than a small, inexpensive standalone bar. “Budget” here is relative to the guide’s tier, not a promise of an ultra-low price. |
| Hisense HS2100 | 2.1 system with a compact subwoofer, HDMI ARC, optical, and Bluetooth. RTINGS says it supports Dolby Digital and DTS over ARC or optical, but those surround formats are downmixed to stereo; the guide also notes some compression at regular and high volumes. RTINGS under-$100 guide | A low-price option when adding bass matters. Its price can sit just above the guide’s $100 cutoff, so check the current listing rather than treating it as reliably under $100. |
| Sony HT-S100F | 2.0 standalone bar with ARC, optical, and Bluetooth; no subwoofer or DTS support. RTINGS says it is often under $100, but the price fluctuates. Its under-$200 guide notes there is no dedicated HDMI input, Wi-Fi, or AirPlay. RTINGS under-$100 guide; RTINGS under-$200 guide | Useful when space is tight or you do not want a separate subwoofer. Expect less low-end impact than from a system with one. |
| Roku Streambar | Compact standalone soundbar under 14 inches wide, with Roku streaming built in. RTINGS describes its price as fluctuating around $100. RTINGS under-$100 guide | Consider it when a small footprint and integrated streaming are more important than a separate subwoofer or larger surround system. |
| TCL S45H | Full-sized standalone bar. RTINGS lists Dolby Atmos support but says Atmos is downmixed; it also notes there is no separate subwoofer. RTINGS under-$100 guide | Its stereo presentation suits dialogue-heavy viewing, according to RTINGS, but expect limited bass and surround compared with a system that has a subwoofer and discrete rear speakers. |
| Hisense HS5100 | 5.1 system with discrete satellites and a center channel; RTINGS says it is not Atmos-compatible. RTINGS under-$200 guide | Consider it if separate surround speakers and a center channel are priorities and Atmos is not a requirement. |
| Creative Stage Pro | Compact bar with a subwoofer; What Hi-Fi? lists Dolby Audio, HDMI ARC, optical, AUX, USB-C, and Bluetooth 5.3. Its guide shows a UK Amazon offer at the time captured. What Hi-Fi? budget soundbar guide | A connection-rich compact option to investigate in the UK. The captured offer is not a current or global price. |
| Yamaha SR-B30A | Standalone two-channel bar with built-in ported subwoofers, simulated surround and height processing, and Bluetooth. Crutchfield’s captured page listed it at $279.95; that is a retailer-page observation, not a guaranteed current price. Crutchfield budget soundbar guide | Consider it if you prefer a single enclosure with built-in bass and simulated effects over a separate subwoofer and rear speakers. |
Choose the system that matches your room and priorities
Standalone bar: simplest setup and smallest footprint
A standalone bar keeps the installation compact and avoids placing a separate subwoofer or rear speakers. That is helpful in a small room or when you want a straightforward TV audio upgrade. The trade-off is that a bar without a separate subwoofer generally cannot provide the same low-frequency impact as a system that includes one. The Sony HT-S100F and Roku Streambar are examples of standalone options in the cited guides.
Bar with a subwoofer: more bass, more pieces
A subwoofer adds a separate component to position, but it can deliver deeper bass than a compact standalone bar. The Hisense HS2100 pairs a bar with a compact subwoofer; the Creative Stage Pro also includes one. Check whether the subwoofer is wired or wireless, what the room allows, and whether the package includes all the speakers shown in the listing.

Discrete rear speakers: a more convincing surround layout
A channel number does not by itself tell you what will be physically placed around the room. The Hisense HS5100 is described as a 5.1 system with discrete satellites and a center channel. The Hisense AX5140Q adds wireless satellites and up-firing drivers in a 5.1.4 configuration. These systems need room for additional speakers; make sure their placement is practical before choosing them over a simpler bar.
Understand channel counts and Atmos claims
Channel labels and format badges describe capabilities, not a guarantee that you will hear discrete surround or overhead effects from every source. Check the speaker layout, whether rear speakers are included, and whether the format is reproduced natively, simulated, or downmixed.

- Simplified 5.1ch Dolby Atmos Setup: Enjoy immersive 4D sound with real Dolby Atmos and 5.1-channel audio. Five built-in speakers, including two side-firing drivers, create wide surround without rear speakers. Precision DSP ensures <0.5 ms latency for smooth, theater-like sound. Setup takes less than 1 minute.
- Voice Clarity Enhancement: VoiceMX technology uses advanced DSP algorithms to isolate and enhance vocal frequencies in real time. Dialogue remains crisp and easy to follow by separating speech from background effects and music, even at low volumes or during intense scenes.
- 300W Output with 6-Driver System: Featuring five precision-tuned full-range drivers and a dedicated wired wooden subwoofer, the system delivers up to 300W of peak power for bold, room-filling sound. With a frequency response of 45 Hz–18 kHz and a maximum SPL of 99 dB, it reproduces everything from subtle nuances to explosive cinematic effects.
- 18 mm High-Excursion Driver: Powered by BassMX technology, the wired wooden subwoofer features a 18 mm high-excursion driver, a 5.3L tuned cabinet, and a high-density magnetic circuit. This design delivers deeper, tighter bass with greater air displacement and enhanced low-frequency performance—bringing more realism to every scene.
- HDMI eARC for True Dolby Atmos: HDMI eARC supports up to 37 Mbps of bandwidth, unlocking the full potential of lossless Dolby Atmos 5.1-channel audio. Compared to standard ARC, eARC delivers richer surround effects and greater detail. CEC integration allows the TV and soundbar to work together with unified control.
- RTINGS says the Hisense HS2100 downmixes Dolby Digital and DTS surround formats to stereo over ARC or optical, despite listing support for those formats.
- RTINGS lists Dolby Atmos support for the TCL S45H but says Atmos is downmixed.
- The Hisense AX5140Q’s up-firing drivers are described as helping reproduce height effects with supported material; that does not mean every program will contain height audio.
- The Yamaha SR-B30A uses simulated surround and height processing, rather than the discrete satellites found in a multi-speaker system.
Check TV connections before you buy
Look at the labels on the TV and consult its manual, then compare them with the soundbar’s documented inputs and format support. ARC, eARC, optical, and a dedicated HDMI input are different features; a bar may not have all of them. Bluetooth and Wi-Fi also serve different purposes from a wired TV-audio connection, so do not assume either replaces a compatible TV output.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →- Identify the TV’s available audio outputs. Check its HDMI ports for ARC or eARC labeling and confirm whether it has optical output. Verify in the TV manual which audio formats it can send through the selected connection.
- Match the output to a soundbar input. The HS2100 and HT-S100F guides describe ARC and optical connections, but their format handling and other features differ. Check the specific model documentation rather than relying on a product-family name.
- Confirm the connection’s limits and settings. A supported format may still be downmixed, and TV audio settings can affect what reaches the bar. For example, RTINGS notes stereo downmixing for the HS2100’s surround formats and the TCL S45H’s Atmos content.
- Check what is in the box. Confirm whether the required cable is included, and verify any mounting hardware or additional speakers before checkout.
Measure the space and plan placement
Measure the bar’s width and height against the TV stand, shelf, or space below the screen. Also account for the subwoofer and any satellite speakers, rather than measuring only the main bar.

- Place the bar centrally with the screen, with as much open space around it as practical.
- If it sits below the display, make sure it does not cover the picture or the TV’s infrared remote sensor.
- Avoid placing it behind the TV or too far inside a cabinet, where the cabinet or screen can interfere with sound projection.
- Follow the model maker’s instructions for mounting and required clearance; those instructions take precedence over general placement advice.
Tom’s Guide recommends central placement with open space and warns against positioning a bar behind the TV or too far inside a cabinet. Tom’s Guide soundbar buying guide.

The source guides cover different markets and price bands, so their prices are not directly comparable. The Creative Stage Pro offer cited by What Hi-Fi? was in the UK; Crutchfield’s $279.95 listing for the Yamaha SR-B30A was a U.S. retailer-page observation. The RTINGS under-$100 guide itself notes that the HS2100 can be just above its cutoff and that the Sony HT-S100F and Roku Streambar prices fluctuate.

Before buying, check the current listing in your country for the exact model and version, total system components, shipping, warranty, return policy, and stock. A model named “best budget” by a guide may not fit your personal ceiling once its local price is confirmed.
A practical way to decide
- Set a firm local price ceiling. Decide what you can spend, including any required cable or mounting hardware.
- Choose the desired system size. Pick a standalone bar for minimal space, a subwoofer bundle for more bass, or a system with discrete satellites if surround placement is practical.
- Match ports and formats. Confirm the TV output and soundbar input, then check how the model handles the formats you actually watch.
- Measure before ordering. Check bar height and width, screen and sensor clearance, and space for the other components.
- Verify the exact listing. Confirm local price, included accessories, variant, stock, warranty, and return terms before purchase.
