The best budget ergonomic keyboard depends on whether you want a compact wave-shaped layout, a full-size curved keyboard with built-in wrist support, or split halves you can position independently. The Logitech Wave Keys, Logitech ERGO K860, and Kinesis Freestyle2 cover those approaches, but none is a universal best fit. Compare the current price and included accessories, then choose the layout and connection that suit your desk and devices.

Which keyboard fits your priorities?
Choose Wave Keys for a compact wave layout
Wave Keys keeps the keys in a single compact keyboard frame, with a wave-shaped arrangement and a cushioned palm rest made with three layers of memory foam. It connects over Bluetooth or with the included Logi Bolt receiver, and supports device switching. Logitech says its two included AAA batteries can provide up to three years of battery life; that is a manufacturer claim, not a guaranteed result for every use pattern. The company says the keyboard was developed and tested with its Ergo Lab and certified ergonomic by United States Ergonomics. Those statements describe its design and certification, not proof that it will relieve or prevent a health problem. See the Logitech Wave Keys product page for current regional details.
Choose ERGO K860 for a full-size curved board and built-in support
The ERGO K860 has a fixed curved split keyframe and an integrated pillowed wrist rest. Its palm lift offers 0°, -4°, and -7° tilt settings, so you can adjust the keyboard’s angle without repositioning separate halves. Logitech claims 54% more wrist support and 25% less wrist bending compared with a traditional Logitech keyboard without a palm rest. These are Logitech’s comparisons, not independent clinical evidence or a promise of a health benefit. Check the Logitech ERGO K860 U.S. product page for current price, availability, and specifications.

Choose Freestyle2 if you want to position the halves separately
The Freestyle2’s two low-profile modules can remain connected or be separated by up to 9 or 20 inches, depending on configuration. That gives you more control over spacing than a fixed one-piece keyboard. Kinesis describes the keyboard as using low-force tactile membrane switches and cites a typical average maximum key force of 45 grams; this is the manufacturer’s specification, not an independent measurement or a direct guarantee of comfort. Palm supports and tenting are optional, so verify whether the package you are buying includes them.
Kinesis’s optional V3 and VIP3 tenting kits offer 5°, 10°, and 15° positions. The VIP3 kit includes palm supports. Kinesis says its U.S. PC model was $99 on October 7, 2026; the price does not establish that a tenting kit is included. Check the Kinesis Freestyle2 for PC store page and Freestyle2 product information for the precise configuration and connection options.

How to compare before you buy
- Check the full price and package contents. Confirm the current checkout price, shipping, return terms, and whether the listing includes a receiver, palm supports, or tenting accessories. Optional parts can change the real cost of a split setup.
- Match the layout to your desk. Wave Keys is compact; the K860 is full-size and fixed in a curve; Freestyle2 lets you separate the modules. Consider where your mouse sits and whether you have room for a wider split arrangement.
- Check connection and device compatibility. Confirm that the exact version supports your computer or mobile device and the connection you intend to use. For Freestyle2 in particular, compare the USB and Bluetooth configuration against your setup; Kinesis recommends USB for some PC setups and Bluetooth for sit-stand desks or mobile devices.
- Allow for a learning period. A changed key arrangement or split position may feel unfamiliar at first. No evidence here establishes how quickly every buyer will adapt, so use the seller’s return window to assess fit in your own routine.
- Read return terms before opening or configuring it. Personal comfort and desk fit are hard to predict from specifications alone. Check the applicable return policy and any conditions before purchase.
What the ergonomic claims do—and do not—show
The product specifications and ergonomic comparisons above come from the manufacturers. Logitech’s brochure also reports that 100% of users in a Logitech-commissioned U.S. study of 50 participants were typing efficiently from day one; the brochure attributes the study to May and July 2023. That small sponsor-reported result is not a guarantee that a new user will adapt at the same pace.
