Choose the tool by capture target: use a full-page extension such as GoFullPage when you need a webpage that extends below the viewport; use a multi-mode tool such as FireShot when you need visible, selected, full-page, or browser-window captures plus documented export options; and use a video-specific workflow when you need one frame without player controls. Firefox also offers a built-in full-page screenshot, which may be sufficient for basic pages. Extension listings, permissions, browser compatibility, and feature tiers change, so verify the current listing before installing.
Start with the capture you actually need
Webpage screenshots and video-frame captures look similar, but they are different technical jobs. A full-page tool scrolls through a document, captures successive viewport images, and joins them. A video-frame workflow captures the paused image displayed by the media player, ideally without controls or other browser chrome. A tool that is excellent at one task may be awkward or ineffective at the other.

The safest selection rule is simple: identify whether the target is a document, a region, a browser window, or a single video frame, then check the tool’s current store listing for permissions, supported browsers, privacy handling, and output formats.
What full-page capture does—and where it stops
How a full-page extension works
When you request an entire-page image, the extension generally scrolls the page in increments, captures each viewport, and assembles the pieces into one image. This lets you save content that is below the fold without manually taking and stitching screenshots. GoFullPage describes its workflow as a one-click entire-webpage screenshot on its official site, while its Chrome Web Store listing provides the current listing and dated release notes.

Pages that are difficult to stitch
Full-page capture is not the same as a print-to-PDF operation. Pages can contain fixed headers, sticky banners, animations, lazy-loaded images, embedded frames, or an inner panel that scrolls independently from the document. A tool may capture the outer page while missing content that appears only after an interaction inside an embedded area. Test a representative page before relying on the result for documentation.
GoFullPage’s FAQ specifically says that it cannot access PDF documents to perform scrolling and that some sites control scrolling with custom JavaScript. On those pages, a capture can stop early, repeat a section, omit content, or produce an unexpected seam. If the page is critical, save the original URL and take additional viewport or selected-region captures of any sections the assembled image does not represent correctly.
GoFullPage: a focused choice for long webpages
When it fits
GoFullPage is the most direct option when the job is a conventional, vertically scrolling webpage and you want a single image with minimal setup. Its product positioning is specifically full-webpage capture, rather than a broad collection of screenshot modes. That narrow scope can be useful when you repeatedly capture articles, documentation, or landing pages and do not need a video-frame button.

- Open the target page and wait for text, images, and lazy-loaded sections to finish loading.
- Close menus, cookie dialogs, chat bubbles, or other overlays that should not appear in the record.
- Scroll through the page once if important sections load only when they enter the viewport.
- Activate GoFullPage from the browser toolbar and choose its full-page capture command.
- Review the assembled result from top to bottom. Look for repeated sticky headers, missing inner-panel content, blank image areas, or a capture that ends before the page ends.
- Save the image using the extension’s current download control. Check the file locally before closing the source tab.
Currentness note
The Chrome listing surfaced a September 24, 2026 release note describing a fix for a Chromium 153 URL requirement and dialog improvements. That is a dated listing entry, not a guarantee that every current Chrome, Firefox, or Edge configuration behaves identically. Confirm the browser-specific listing and test the pages you care about.
When to choose something else
- Choose a selected-area tool when only a chart, paragraph, or component matters; a full-page image can be unnecessarily large and harder to redact.
- Choose a window or visible-area mode when you need the browser frame, tab context, or a live application state.
- Use a different workflow for an individual video frame. A document-scrolling algorithm is not evidence that a tool can remove video controls or extract a clean frame.

- Visible area: records what is currently inside the page viewport.
- Selected area: lets you draw a rectangle around a particular part of the page.
- Entire page: attempts to scroll and assemble the document beyond the viewport.
- Browser window: includes the browser-window context rather than only page content.
The same manual also describes editing and annotation, clipboard copying, printing, and saving to PDF, PNG, GIF, JPEG, or BMP. These are documented feature categories in a manual dated 2016, not a promise that every current edition, browser listing, or license tier includes each feature. Confirm the current listing and the free-versus-paid boundary before choosing FireShot for a production workflow. The source manual is available as a PDF.
A reliable FireShot workflow
- Open the page and decide whether you need page content only or browser context as well.
- Use the FireShot toolbar command and select the matching capture mode instead of defaulting to entire page.
- For a selected capture, drag the region carefully and include enough margin to preserve labels and units.
- Inspect the result for dynamic-page errors, especially duplicated fixed elements and missing independently scrolling panels.
- Use the editor to crop, annotate, blur, or redact only if those controls are present in your current edition.
- Choose the export destination. Clipboard and print workflows are different from saving a local image or PDF; confirm where the data goes before handling confidential material.
Why the broad mode set matters
One extension can cover several jobs without forcing you to maintain separate tools: a selected crop for a support ticket, a visible capture for a live dashboard, an entire page for an article, and a browser-window capture for a reproducible bug report. That flexibility is useful, but it also creates more settings to verify. If you only need full-page images, a focused extension may be easier for a team to standardize.

Why this is a separate use case
When a video is paused, the player may still display a timeline, play button, captions, title, or recommendation overlay. A normal visible-area screenshot records those controls. A full-page capture adds no value because the desired object is a single image inside the player, not the complete document.
What the available evidence supports
A Tom’s Hardware guide dated July 8, 2020 identifies a YouTube screenshot extension as a way to capture an individual video frame without player controls. The guide is secondary and old: current availability, publisher identity, permissions, and behavior were not established here. Do not assume that GoFullPage or FireShot currently provides frame-specific capture merely because they can capture webpages.

General frame-capture procedure
- Open the video page and set the player to the highest available quality that your connection can sustain.
- Move the playhead to the desired moment. Use the player’s frame-step or keyboard controls if the site provides them; otherwise pause as close to the moment as possible.
- Move the pointer away from the player and wait for controls to disappear.
- Use a currently maintained video-frame extension only after checking its store listing, developer identity, requested permissions, privacy policy, and recent reviews.
- Open the saved image and inspect it for overlays, subtitles, compression, or a frame that is one moment earlier or later than intended.
- Record the video URL, timestamp, and any licensing or attribution requirement alongside the image.
If no trustworthy frame-specific extension is available for your browser, use the browser or operating system’s ordinary screenshot function as a fallback, then crop the player area locally. That fallback may still include controls, so it is less suitable when a clean frame is essential.
Copyright and access boundaries
A screenshot can preserve material that is copyrighted, access-controlled, or subject to a site’s terms. Capturing a frame for personal notes is different from republishing it in a presentation, article, or commercial product. Keep the source URL and timestamp, and obtain permission when your intended use requires it. Extensions also cannot legitimately bypass a protected stream, paywall, digital-rights control, or a site restriction simply because a screenshot button exists.
Firefox’s built-in full-page screenshot
The same 2020 guide describes Firefox’s built-in Save full page screenshot flow. This is worth trying before installing an extension when you need a straightforward full-page image and your current Firefox version exposes that command.
- Open the page in Firefox and wait for the page to finish loading.
- Open Firefox’s screenshot command from the current toolbar or page menu.
- Choose Save full page, rather than the visible or selected-area option.
- Review the generated image and save it locally.
Firefox’s interface can change, so treat those labels as the documented workflow, not a guarantee that every release places the control in the same menu. If you cannot find the command, use Firefox’s current help documentation or a maintained extension whose listing explicitly supports your version.

Comparison checklist before installation
Capture scope
Confirm whether the listing names the exact scope you need: visible viewport, selected region, entire webpage, browser window, or individual video frame. “Screenshot” alone is too vague to establish full-page or frame-specific behavior.
Complex-page handling
Look for information about embedded content, custom JavaScript scrolling, lazy loading, fixed elements, and independently scrolling areas. Test a difficult page rather than assuming that a clean marketing page predicts performance on your target site.

Output and editing
Verify whether the current edition saves an image, PDF, or both, and whether it supports the format your workflow requires. Check for crop, annotation, blur, and redaction controls instead of assuming that every screenshot tool has an editor. A local download, clipboard copy, print operation, and cloud upload are different data paths.
Browser fit and permissions
Check the current Chrome, Firefox, or Edge store listing, developer identity, requested permissions, update date, privacy policy, and support contact. A permission to read page content may be necessary for capture, but it also deserves scrutiny when pages contain passwords, customer records, or internal documents. Remove an extension when you no longer need it, and avoid installing similarly named copies from an unknown publisher.

Dynamic pages, PDFs, and protected content: troubleshooting

A practical decision framework
Choose GoFullPage when
- Your primary target is a normal, vertically scrolling webpage.
- You want a one-click full-page workflow.
- You can test the target site for custom scrolling and PDF behavior.
Choose FireShot when
- You need more than one capture scope.
- You may need selected-area, browser-window, annotation, clipboard, print, or multiple export options.
- You are willing to verify which documented features remain available in the current edition.
Choose Firefox’s native command when
- You already use Firefox and need a basic full-page image.
- You prefer not to grant an extension additional page permissions.
- The current browser interface exposes the Save full page command.
Choose a video-frame extension only after verification when
- The required result is one clean frame rather than a page image.
- The extension has a current store listing, identifiable developer, understandable permissions, and a privacy policy.
- You have tested its output on the specific player and browser version you use.
Make captures useful after you save them
Use descriptive filenames that include the site, page or video identifier, date, and timestamp. For a video frame, retain the source URL and playback time. For a webpage, retain the page URL and note whether the image is a full-page, selected, visible, or browser-window capture. These details make a screenshot auditable when the page later changes.
Keep the original capture before annotating it. Store a redacted copy separately from the unmodified source, and check that blur or redaction actually hides sensitive pixels rather than merely placing a movable shape over them. When exporting to PDF, verify whether the result is an image-only PDF or selectable text; the distinction affects searchability and accessibility.

For ordinary long webpages, start with GoFullPage or Firefox’s native full-page command and test the page’s scrolling behavior. For mixed screenshot jobs that require visible, selected, entire-page, or browser-window modes, FireShot’s documented feature categories are broader, but its 2016 manual means current capabilities and licensing must be confirmed. For a single video frame, treat frame capture as a separate problem: verify a current video-specific extension or use a paused-player screenshot and local crop. In every case, check permissions, privacy handling, output format, and the result itself before treating the image as reliable evidence.
