Matchbook is the first Betdaq alternative to investigate because it acquired Betdaq and is presenting the combined customer base as one peer-to-peer exchange pool. Betdaq exchange trading is scheduled to end on 21 October 2026; accounts remain available for information and withdrawals until 4 November 2026. Matchbook is not a bet-transfer service, however: any equivalent wager you place there is a new bet at Matchbook’s then-current price.
Betfair Exchange is the strongest established comparison for back-and-lay markets, broad exchange functionality and documented cross-selection matching. Smarkets is another genuine exchange option, but its current commission, country availability and market coverage need to be checked directly before opening an account. There is no evidence for one universal winner: liquidity in your preferred sport, legal availability, commission terms and the tools you use should determine the choice.
What is happening to Betdaq?
The Betdaq exchange service is scheduled to close to trading on 21 October 2026. You should treat that as the final date for opening, modifying or otherwise trading Betdaq exchange positions unless the operator publishes a later change.

Matchbook says the Betdaq exchange was operated by Exchange Platform Solutions Limited and that the existing service will close on 21 October 2026. The acquisition makes Matchbook the direct successor to examine first, but it does not create an automatic migration of bets.
Best direct replacement: Matchbook
Why it is the natural first option
Matchbook says it is a peer-to-peer betting exchange owned and operated by Triplebet Limited, with licensing in Great Britain, Ireland and Alderney. Its transition information says Betdaq customers will join Matchbook’s exchange pool and that combining customers should produce deeper liquidity and better prices. Those are the operator’s stated objectives, not a guaranteed price or volume for every sport, market or time of day.
Matchbook’s live-betting service lists football, horse racing, golf and other in-play markets. If those are the sports you trade, compare the actual market depth and available prices after logging in rather than assuming the combined pool will be equally liquid everywhere.
What does not migrate
A Betdaq position cannot simply be copied into Matchbook. Matchbook explicitly explains that an equivalent wager placed on its exchange is a new bet at the current Matchbook price. It is not a continuation of the Betdaq contract, and its result, odds and liability are determined independently.
For example, if you backed a horse on Betdaq and later place the same back bet on Matchbook, you now hold two separate positions. If you need to remove the Betdaq exposure, trade out on Betdaq while trading remains available, or follow the operator’s published settlement instructions. Do not use a Matchbook bet as a substitute for closing the original position.

Matchbook checks before depositing
- Confirm that your country and residential address are accepted under Matchbook’s current licensing and compliance rules.
- Complete identity checks before transferring a large balance or relying on a withdrawal deadline.
- Compare the live commission and any account-specific terms shown at registration or in the cashier.
- Check the exact sport, market and in-play availability you need; a general list of sports does not guarantee every competition or selection.
- Look at available money on both sides of a market, not just the headline best price, when estimating whether the exchange suits your stake.
Betfair Exchange: the established comparison
Back and lay betting
Betfair’s exchange matches customers against one another. A back bet says that an outcome will happen, such as a team winning. A lay bet says that it will not happen. When you lay, another customer’s back bet supplies the opposing side; your potential liability is shown before you confirm the wager.
This structure lets you trade an opinion in either direction. You can back a selection, lay it, or use later opposing bets to reduce or remove exposure when the market moves. The exchange interface and rules should be read carefully because the amount at risk on a lay bet is not the same as the amount another customer stakes.

Betfair’s rules document cross-selection and cross-market matching in eligible markets. In practical terms, an order may be matched with an equivalent order on another selection or related market when the market’s rules permit it. This can improve the chance of getting matched, but it also means you should understand the specific market’s settlement and matching rules before placing a bet.
Charges
Betfair says that, for the vast majority of exchange customers, the main charge is commission on net winnings. The precise percentage depends on your region and account terms, so check the current charges page shown for your account instead of relying on an old comparison table.
Betfair also states that customers placing more than 5,000 exchange bets in one hour may face exceptional transaction charges, depending on commission and activity. That threshold is relevant mainly to very high-volume or automated users; it is not a standard fee applied to ordinary recreational betting. If you trade at that scale, review the current transaction-charge rules and any API or account restrictions before moving activity.
Rank #3
Smarkets: an independent exchange to verify
Smarkets is a genuine betting-exchange option rather than a conventional fixed-odds sportsbook. A public Competition and Consumer Protection Commission decision lists Smarkets alongside Betdaq and Matchbook as an alternative source of betting-exchange data to Betfair’s live exchange data. That establishes it as a real exchange participant, but it does not establish its current fee schedule or availability for your country.
Recommended Free Tools
The current information available for this comparison does not provide a first-party Smarkets commission table, complete jurisdiction list or definitive market-coverage page. Before depositing, verify all three items on Smarkets’ live site:
- the commission charged on exchange winnings and whether rates vary by market, country or account;
- whether residents of your jurisdiction may register, deposit, trade and withdraw;
- the sports, competitions, pre-match markets and in-play markets offered to your account.
Do not apply an old percentage or an availability claim from an archived review to a 2026 account. Terms can change, and licensing is specific to the customer’s location and the entity providing the service.

| Betfair Exchange | Independent established exchange | Yes; back means an outcome happens and lay means it does not | Rules document cross-selection and cross-market matching in eligible markets; exact depth varies by market and time | Most customers pay commission on net winnings; more than 5,000 exchange bets in one hour can trigger exceptional transaction charges | Exact commission and eligibility depend on region and account terms |
| Smarkets | Independent exchange option | Exchange service; confirm current functionality for your account | Recognised as an alternative exchange data source in a public competition decision; current coverage should be checked directly | Current first-party rate not stated in the available material | Verify current fee table, country availability and market list before signing up |
Which alternative fits your priority?
Choose Matchbook when continuity is the priority
Matchbook is the logical first investigation if you want the operator most directly connected to Betdaq and your preferred markets are included in its live offering. The acquisition may give it access to a larger combined pool, but you still need to inspect prices and unmatched volume at the times you trade. Plan a separate position-management process because open Betdaq bets do not follow you automatically.
Choose Betfair when exchange mechanics and matching tools matter most
Betfair is the better fit to investigate if you regularly switch between backing and laying, need documented cross-selection or cross-market matching, or trade enough volume that transaction rules matter. Compare the commission schedule attached to your region and account, and model net returns rather than comparing a headline rate alone.

Investigate Smarkets when you want another independent pool
Smarkets may be useful when it accepts customers in your jurisdiction and lists the competitions you trade. Because the current fee and availability details are not established here, make verification a condition of registration rather than assuming an older published rate still applies.
How to move from Betdaq without losing track of a position
- List every open position. Record the event, selection, back or lay side, odds, stake, liability, market, settlement condition and any partial matching. Save account statements or screenshots so you can reconcile the result later.
- Separate open bets from cash. Identify the withdrawable balance and the amount committed or exposed in unmatched and matched positions. A displayed account total may include funds needed to cover lay liability.
- Read the latest Betdaq transition and settlement instructions. Confirm how matched, unmatched, cancelled or suspended positions will be handled at closure. Do not infer settlement from another exchange’s rules.
- Trade out on Betdaq where appropriate before 21 October 2026. A closing trade can reduce or remove exposure, but it may be unavailable if liquidity is thin or the market is suspended. Check the resulting net position rather than assuming the order was fully matched.
- Open and verify any replacement account early. Complete identity, address and source-of-funds checks before the cutoff. A new account may have deposit, stake, market or withdrawal limits while verification is pending.
- Use Matchbook, Betfair or Smarkets as a separate account. Confirm the current price, available opposing money, commission and liability before placing a new bet. An equivalent bet is a new contract, not a transferred Betdaq position.
- Withdraw the remaining Betdaq balance by 4 November 2026. Allow time for payment processing, identity queries and bank or card restrictions. Keep confirmation records until the withdrawal reaches your account.
- Reconcile after settlement. Compare the final Betdaq statement with your position list and check that every replacement exchange bet has settled independently.
How exchange commission affects the choice
Exchange commission is normally charged on qualifying winnings rather than added as a simple percentage to every stake. The calculation can differ by operator, market, customer location and account status, so compare the amount you would actually keep from a winning trade.
| Operator and published figure | Rate or threshold | Scope and qualification |
|---|---|---|
| Betdaq normal rate | 2% | Published for customers in the UK, Ireland, Gibraltar and Jersey; enhanced rates may apply. |
| Betdaq normal rate | 5% | Published for customers resident in other territories; enhanced rates may apply. |
| Betfair exceptional transaction-charge threshold | More than 5,000 exchange bets in one hour | Betfair says charges may apply depending on commission and activity; this is not a universal charge for all customers. |
| Matchbook | Not stated here | Check the current rate and account terms before depositing. |
| Smarkets | Not stated here | Check the current first-party fee table before depositing. |
Betdaq’s 2% and 5% figures are normal published rates, not a promise that every account receives them. The territory categories and any enhanced-rate rules matter. For a fair comparison, use the rate displayed for your own account and include any exchange-specific transaction or market charges.

An exchange can be technically accessible yet unavailable to you legally or operationally. Licensing, permitted residence, payment methods, identity verification, market restrictions and promotional terms are all jurisdiction-specific.

One-click scans. No signup required.
- Check the operator’s current licensing entity for your country, not only the brand’s global homepage.
- Confirm that both deposits and withdrawals are supported in your currency and payment method.
- Complete identity checks using documents whose names and addresses match the account.
- Read stake, liability, market and responsible-gambling limits before placing a large order.
- Check whether in-play betting is permitted for the sport and jurisdiction you use.
- Keep statements and transaction confirmations in case an account review occurs during the closure period.
Matchbook’s stated licensing covers Great Britain, Ireland and Alderney, but that does not by itself establish availability in every other country. Betfair and Smarkets likewise require a country-specific check. If the operator does not explicitly accept your residence, do not attempt to bypass the restriction with a location-masking service.

Common mistakes during the switch
Assuming the same bet exists on the new exchange
It does not. A new bet at a new price creates separate exposure. Record and close the original Betdaq position according to Betdaq’s instructions.
Waiting until the final withdrawal date
4 November 2026 is the stated end of account access for information and withdrawals. Payment delays, verification questions or an incorrect bank detail can consume that window, so start the withdrawal process well before the deadline.
Comparing commission without comparing liquidity
A lower nominal rate is not automatically cheaper if your order receives a worse price or remains partly unmatched. Compare the executable price, available volume, commission and expected slippage for the markets you actually trade.

Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Assuming a sports list proves market depth
An exchange may list a sport but offer little available money in a particular competition, time window or in-play state. Inspect the live ladder before committing funds.
Using an old Smarkets or Betfair fee table
Fees and eligibility can change by territory and account. Use the current terms displayed during registration and in the account area, especially if you trade frequently.
Bottom line for Betdaq customers
Prepare for Betdaq trading to end on 21 October 2026 and plan to withdraw by 4 November 2026. Investigate Matchbook first because it is the stated successor and expects a combined exchange pool, but manage every new Matchbook wager as an independent contract. Compare Betfair when back-and-lay functionality, cross-market matching and a mature exchange ecosystem are important. Consider Smarkets only after confirming its current country availability, commission and market coverage. The right replacement is the one that is licensed for you, liquid in your markets and economical after its actual fees and prices.
