Minehut, FalixNodes and Minefort are the leading free Aternos alternatives in 2026. They work well for occasional vanilla play, but free servers generally sleep when empty, impose RAM or player limits, and may require periodic renewal. If you need a server online around the clock, expect to pay roughly $3–$7 per month for an entry plan with 2–4 GB of RAM; modded or larger worlds usually need 8 GB or more.
The prices and specifications below come from 2026 comparison and cost guides rather than verified provider pricing pages. Promotional terms, renewal rates, regional eligibility and resource limits can change, so check the host’s own checkout and documentation before committing.

| Best for | Recommended option | Why it fits | Main limitation |
|---|---|---|---|
| Free, small vanilla world | Minehut | Reported 1 GB RAM, 10 player slots, 10 GB storage and a built-in server browser. | Stops or sleeps when empty; resources are limited. |
| Free hosting with file access | FalixNodes | Reports describe a file manager and FTP access. | Sources disagree whether the free tier has 2 GB or 4 GB RAM; country eligibility and renewal rules apply. |
| Another free, small server | Minefort | Reported 1 GB RAM and a simple setup. | Not intended to remain online 24/7. |
| Lowest reported paid price | PebbleHost | A 1 GB plan was listed at $1 per month in 2026 roundups. | That figure is a reported entry price; renewal and included resources need confirmation. |
| Budget 2–4 GB server | Gravel Host or BisectHosting | Reported starting prices range from $1.80 for 2 GB to $5.99 for 2 GB. | Prices vary by billing term and promotion. |
| Established managed service | Apex Hosting or Nodecraft | Managed plans, backups and support are aimed at players who want less server administration. | Higher monthly cost than budget hosts. |
These are suitability picks, not a guarantee of current performance. Most “best of 2026” lists are published by companies that sell hosting, so treat rankings as marketing-led comparisons rather than independent testing.
What to compare before leaving Aternos
Always-on behavior
Aternos-style free hosting commonly stops a few minutes after the last player leaves. A guide describing Aternos reports that behavior, and the same sleep model appears across many free alternatives. If friends can only play when someone manually starts the server, a free tier may be adequate. If players expect to connect at any time, choose a paid plan that explicitly states continuous operation.

RAM, CPU and storage
RAM is the first constraint to check, but it is not the only one. A small vanilla world with a handful of players can often run on 1–2 GB. Plugins, view distance, many entities and large world generation increase memory and CPU demand. Cost guides put modded servers and larger communities at about 8 GB RAM or more; treat that as a planning baseline, not a performance guarantee (WiseHosting’s 2026 cost guide).
Player slots and software support
Confirm the maximum simultaneous players, Java or Bedrock compatibility, Minecraft version selection, and whether the panel supports Spigot, Paper, Fabric, Forge or other loaders. A host may advertise generous RAM while restricting slots or disallowing a loader you need.
Renewal, deletion and backups
Free services may delete an inactive server instead of merely stopping it. One comparison reports that Server.pro free servers are deleted after 12 hours unless renewed or upgraded. Ask how often you must log in, whether the world can be downloaded, and how long backups remain after cancellation.
Location and eligibility
Latency depends on the data-center region and your players’ locations. Some free tiers are restricted to eligible countries. FalixNodes is specifically reported as country-limited, so check eligibility before spending time configuring a world.

Minehut
Minehut is the most straightforward choice for a small, occasional server. 2026 comparison pages report 1 GB RAM, 10 player slots and 10 GB storage, plus a built-in server browser. The server sleeps when nobody is playing, so it is best for a group willing to start it on demand. The low memory ceiling also makes it a poor fit for heavy modpacks, long render distances or many simultaneous players.
Use Minehut when your priority is zero monthly cost and an easy entry point. Before importing a world, download a local copy; free services can change policies, and a backup is your recovery path if a server is reset or deleted.
FalixNodes
FalixNodes is often recommended when users want more file-level control than a basic free panel provides. Reports mention a web file manager and FTP access. However, published specifications conflict: one source lists 2 GB RAM while another lists 4 GB. Because neither figure was verified on the provider’s current pricing page, treat the allowance as unconfirmed and check the live panel before planning a modpack.
The free tier is also reported to be available only in eligible countries, and one review mentions daily renewal. Confirm both points during signup. A service that requires daily renewal can be practical for a weekend event but frustrating for a persistent community.

Minefort
Minefort is reported at 1 GB RAM and is not online 24/7. It suits a few friends running a lightweight vanilla world, especially when the group is comfortable starting the server before each session. It is not a replacement for paid always-on hosting, and the 1 GB figure leaves little headroom for large plugins or modded clients.
Server.pro free tier
Server.pro appears in free-host comparisons as an option that must be renewed or upgraded. One 2026 report says free servers are deleted after 12 hours unless renewed. That is materially different from merely sleeping: deletion can remove the live instance, so schedule downloads of the world and configuration files if you use this tier.
Orca
Orca’s own comparison page claims a free tier with 8 GB dedicated RAM, support for up to 40 players and no credit card. Those are the vendor’s claims, not an independently measured result, and the page discloses that Orca is promoting its own product (Orca’s 2026 comparison). Verify uptime, software support, region, renewal policy and whether “dedicated RAM” applies continuously before relying on it for a public community.
Paid alternatives for 24/7 play
Paid plans remove the most disruptive free-tier limitation: scheduled sleeping or manual renewal. The following prices are reported starting figures from 2026 comparison pages. They may be promotional, first-month prices or term-dependent; renewal rates were not consistently stated.

| Provider | Reported entry plan | Best fit | Important qualification |
|---|---|---|---|
| PebbleHost | $1/month for 1 GB | Lowest-cost small vanilla server | Reported roundup price; verify renewal, CPU allocation and backups. |
| Gravel Host | From $1.80/month for 2 GB | Budget server needing more than 1 GB | Starting figure; location and included storage vary. |
| GGServers | $3/month for 1 GB | Basic paid hosting | Reported entry price; confirm term and renewal. |
| ServerPrism | From $4.74/month for 2 GB | Small community server | Starting price from a comparison page. |
| Loafhosts | $5/month for 4 GB | More memory at a mid-budget price | Report lists unlimited players; practical capacity still depends on CPU and workload. |
| BisectHosting | $5.99/month, or $4.80/month paid annually, for 2 GB | Players who prefer a known managed panel | Another source reports a $2.99 smallest dedicated plan, so plan names and regions matter. |
| Apex Hosting | $11.24 first month, then $14.99/month | Managed support and guided setup | First-month promotion followed by a higher recurring price. |
| Nodecraft Pro | From $9.98/month for 2 GB | Managed service with a higher support budget | Starting price; confirm exact RAM and renewal terms. |
| Voltra | From $14.99/month | Managed or higher-touch hosting | Entry configuration was not stated in the comparison summary. |
For additional budget context, 2026 cost guides estimate roughly $1–$3 per month for a small vanilla server, $15–$25 for a 10–20-player world and $30–$50 for a modded server. Those ranges are explicitly rough guides, not quotations or guarantees (HytHost’s cost guide).

Two to five friends playing vanilla
Start with a free tier if everyone accepts on-demand startup and occasional limits. Minehut, FalixNodes or Minefort can cover this pattern. Keep a local world backup and avoid building a community around a service that can delete inactive instances without a download.
A public or always-available community
Use a paid plan with at least 2–4 GB RAM, a stated 24/7 policy, automated backups and a data center near most players. Compare the renewal price—not only the introductory rate—and check whether the plan throttles CPU or disk I/O.
Modpacks, Fabric or Forge
Plan for 8 GB or more when the pack is large or the player count is high. Confirm that the host supports the exact loader and Minecraft version, allows custom Java arguments, and provides enough storage for mod files, generated chunks and backups. A nominal RAM number cannot compensate for incompatible software or weak CPU performance.

- 【Space Saving & Keep Organized】Desk cable management tray holds all your power cords, outlet strips, USB hubs and computer transformers hidden from your feet, and the data cables will not enter the vacuum cleaner to keep your desk clean and tidy. Desk wire organizer is also suitable for use in the kitchen and outdoors.
- 【Reduce Safety Risks】Cable tray under desk keeps all plugs away from your kids, no more worry about tripping. Using 2 holes wire tray saves extra space, helps you easily cabling and wire protection. The mesh design is not easy to accumulate dust, but avoids safety accidents caused by messy wires.
Events with temporary spikes
A paid plan with upgrade or downgrade controls can be cheaper than permanently buying maximum capacity. Test the panel’s backup and restore process before the event, then scale down after the peak. Free hosting is risky for an event because sleep or renewal rules can interrupt access.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Why an Aternos server keeps sleeping
Free hosts sleep servers to reclaim shared hardware when no players are connected. The behavior is intentional, not usually a fault. If your group needs a world to remain available, the practical fixes are:
- Move to a paid plan that explicitly states 24/7 operation.
- Choose a provider with a region close to your players and confirm its idle policy in the terms.
- Download the world, server properties and plugin or mod configuration before migrating.
- Test the new server with the intended Minecraft version and loader before inviting the full group.
Do not use artificial “keep-alive” players or automation to bypass a free host’s idle policy unless its terms expressly permit it; accounts can be suspended and the workaround does not solve resource limits.
How to migrate from Aternos safely
- Stop the old server. Wait for the panel to report that the process has stopped before copying files.
- Export the world. Download every world folder, including Nether and End dimensions if they are stored separately.
- Record configuration. Save
server.properties, whitelist and operator lists, plugin folders, datapacks, resource-pack links and any custom Java arguments. - Match the software. Install the same Minecraft version and loader first. Mixing versions can corrupt chunks or disable plugins.
- Upload to the new host. Use the panel’s file manager or FTP, then place the world in the location named by the new server configuration.
- Set access controls. Recreate the whitelist, operators, difficulty, view distance and simulation distance before opening the address publicly.
- Run a private test. Join with one account, inspect inventories and portals, test commands, and watch the console for errors.
- Keep the original backup. Do not delete the Aternos copy until the new server has been stable through a complete play session and a backup restore test.
Realms versus third-party server hosting
| Consideration | Minecraft Java Realm | Third-party hosting |
|---|---|---|
| Administration | Simple, integrated subscription with minimal server maintenance. | You manage versions, loaders, files and backups, although managed hosts provide assistance. |
| Mod and plugin flexibility | More limited than a configurable server panel. | Usually supports a wider choice of plugins and mod loaders, subject to the plan. |
| Availability | Designed for an always-available private world. | Paid plans commonly offer 24/7 uptime; free plans often sleep. |
| Reported price | $7.99/month in 2026 comparison roundups; not verified on Mojang’s site. | Reported paid entry prices range from about $1 to $15 or more, depending on RAM and management. |
| Best for | Players who value convenience and official integration over customization. | Communities needing mods, plugins, FTP access, larger worlds or multiple server choices. |
Choose Realms when simplicity and an official, low-maintenance experience matter most. Choose third-party hosting when you need control over server software, files, mods or player capacity.
Pricing traps and verification checklist
- First-month pricing: A figure such as $11.24 may rise to $14.99 at renewal. Put the recurring amount in your budget.
- Long billing terms: A low monthly number may require a 12- or 24-month prepayment. Compare the total charge today.
- Unclear RAM labels: Ask whether the advertised memory is dedicated, burstable or shared, and whether the panel reserves it for your instance.
- Conflicting specifications: FalixNodes is reported at both 2 GB and 4 GB in different articles. Trust the current plan page and keep a screenshot of the terms.
- Player-slot marketing: “Unlimited players” does not mean unlimited performance. CPU, simulation distance and entity count determine practical capacity.
- Backups: Verify frequency, retention, off-site storage and whether you can download a backup yourself.
- Cancellation: Check prorating, refund windows and the date at which files are permanently removed.
- Independent evidence: Many 2026 rankings are written by hosts selling the listed services. Use them to build a shortlist, then compare provider documentation and user reviews for current terms.
A practical decision framework
- Count regular players. Up to about 10 casual players can often start with 1–2 GB; larger groups need more headroom.
- Identify the software. Vanilla is least demanding. Plugins, Fabric, Forge and large modpacks raise memory and CPU requirements.
- Decide whether sleep is acceptable. If not, remove free tiers from the shortlist.
- Set a recurring budget. Compare renewal, taxes, setup fees and backup charges—not only the advertised monthly figure.
- Check exit options. Prefer hosts that let you download the world and restore it elsewhere.
- Test before paying long term. Use a monthly plan first when possible, measure real tick performance with your expected players, then commit to an annual term only if the service meets your needs.
The Bottom Line
For a few friends and occasional vanilla sessions, Minehut, FalixNodes or Minefort are the most practical free alternatives. For dependable 24/7 access, budget for a paid 2–4 GB plan and verify renewal pricing, backups, software support and regional availability. Choose 8 GB or more for demanding modpacks or larger communities.
