Mario Kart World is the best all-round alternative to Hot Wheels Infinite Rush on Nintendo Switch 2. It combines approachable arcade handling, connected courses, free roaming and up to 24 online racers. Choose Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds if changing tracks and vehicle customization matter most, or Hot Wheels Unleashed 2 Turbocharged if you want the closest existing Hot Wheels experience and deeper track creation.
What makes a game “like Hot Wheels Infinite Rush”?
“Like” can mean several different things here. Hot Wheels Infinite Rush is not only a lap-based kart racer: Milestone describes a Hot Wheels-sized world built from four explorable islands, with races, free-roaming activities, secrets, challenge events and collectible vehicles. It also combines four vehicle classes, environmental track building, customization, cross-play, asynchronous and synchronous challenges, and split-screen racing for up to four people.
That combination creates five useful comparison tests:
- Toy-car identity: Does the game focus on collecting recognizable miniature vehicles, or on fictional characters and karts?
- World structure: Can you explore connected areas between events, or do you select separate courses from a menu?
- Arcade handling: Are the controls deliberately easy to pick up, with jumps, boosts and spectacular shortcuts?
- Creation and customization: Can you build tracks, tune vehicles or change gadgets and parts?
- Multiplayer: How many people can play locally or online, and does online play require Nintendo Switch Online?
No alternative duplicates all five. The right choice depends on which part of the Infinite Rush formula you want to preserve.

At a glance: the three strongest alternatives
| Game | Best for | What matches Infinite Rush | Important difference or qualification |
|---|---|---|---|
| Mario Kart World | Broadest arcade-racing substitute | Connected courses, free roaming, high-energy racing and up to four players on one system | Character-based karts rather than a toy-car collection; Nintendo offers a dedicated physical Switch 2 edition |
| Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds | Course variety and customization | Fast arcade races, vehicle changes, gadgets, local play and online competition | Its dimensional Travel Rings move racers to different environments; confirm the Switch 2 edition or upgrade path for an existing copy |
| Hot Wheels Unleashed 2 Turbocharged | The closest established Hot Wheels game | More than 130 Hot Wheels vehicles, track creation, upgrades and varied race modes | It is a Nintendo Switch game marked compatible with Switch 2, not a Switch 2-native release |
1. Mario Kart World: the best overall pick
Choose Mario Kart World if you want the most complete replacement for Infinite Rush’s accessible racing and exploration. Nintendo presents a connected world in which routes run through varied environments instead of existing only as isolated circuits. You can leave the conventional race structure to explore freely, then return to competitive events. That makes it the closest match for someone attracted to Infinite Rush’s four-island concept rather than only its Hot Wheels branding.
Why it fits
- Connected-course design: Nintendo describes routes that link together, allowing races and free-roaming movement through a wider world.
- Large online fields: Nintendo lists online races with up to 24 racers.
- Local multiplayer: One Nintendo Switch 2 supports one to four players, which covers the same couch-racing audience as Infinite Rush’s split-screen mode.
- Low barrier to entry: The character-and-kart format is immediately understandable for children and adults who do not want a simulation racer.
Where it differs
Mario Kart World’s identity comes from Nintendo characters, themed karts and item-based competition. It does not offer Infinite Rush’s collection of miniature Hot Wheels designs or its four vehicle classes. Its world is also a Nintendo kart-racing setting, not a toy-scale environment built around Hot Wheels cars. Pick it for the structure and multiplayer rhythm, not because it reproduces the same vehicle roster.
Edition and buying notes
Nintendo lists an official physical Nintendo Switch 2 edition. If you are searching a retailer, use the exact phrase “Mario Kart World Nintendo Switch 2 game” and verify that the listing is for the Switch 2 edition rather than an older Nintendo Switch product. Availability, price and any retailer promotion can change by region.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2. Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds: best for changing courses and customization
Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds is the better fit when you value course surprises, vehicle configuration and competitive variety over free-roaming exploration. Nintendo’s description centers on Travel Rings that send racers into other dimensions during a race. The result is a more changeable course flow than a standard fixed circuit: the environment can shift between sections, and learning when to adapt is part of the appeal.
Rank #2
- The next evolution of Nintendo Switch
- One system, three play modes: TV, Tabletop, and Handheld
- Larger, vivid, 7.9” LCD touch screen with support for HDR and up to 120 fps
- Race from one course to another through interconnected paths that span the world
- Traverse mountains, forests, cities, and more—with shifting weather patterns and a day/night cycle
Key specifications
- 45 vehicles: Nintendo lists this total across the game’s roster.
- 70 gadgets: Gadgets provide a large set of configuration choices for changing how a vehicle performs or behaves.
- Online capacity: Nintendo lists up to 12 online players.
- Offline and online modes: You can race without an internet connection, then move to online competition when you have Nintendo Switch Online and a suitable connection.
Why it suits an Infinite Rush fan
Both games emphasize spectacle and variety instead of realistic motorsport. CrossWorlds also gives you a reason to experiment: selecting a different vehicle or gadget combination can change how you approach a course. Its dimension-hopping structure supplies the surprise that Infinite Rush creates through island activities, environmental routes and changing events.
What you give up
CrossWorlds is organized around races and modes rather than four freely explorable islands. Its vehicles and gadgets are not a substitute for collecting real-world Hot Wheels designs. If your priority is driving around a toy-scale map between events, Mario Kart World or Infinite Rush itself is a closer structural match.
Switch 2 edition check
Nintendo identifies Switch 2 compatibility and a dedicated Switch 2 edition or upgrade route. Before buying, check whether you are purchasing the native Switch 2 product or upgrading an existing Nintendo Switch copy, and confirm any upgrade requirements shown for your region.
3. Hot Wheels Unleashed 2 Turbocharged: closest to the Hot Wheels formula
Choose Hot Wheels Unleashed 2 Turbocharged if the toy-car collection and track-building side matters more than open exploration. Nintendo lists more than 130 vehicles, including Hot Wheels Originals and Monster Trucks. That is the most direct way to stay with the Hot Wheels identity while waiting for, or deciding against, Infinite Rush.
Rank #3
- [SEAMLESS OPEN WORLD] Experience an interconnected racing environment with zero loading screens between courses. Navigate a massive world featuring 24-hour dynamic day/night cycles and shifting weather patterns that directly impact vehicle traction and handling across mountains and cities.
- [ADVANCED RACING MECHANICS] Master all-new maneuvers including high-speed rail riding, wall jumping, and tactical water skimming. These next-gen traversal abilities allow players to discover hidden shortcuts and alternate routes within a 100% seamless world-map architecture.
- [24-PLAYER ELIMINATION MODE] Compete in the high-stakes Knockout Tour, an adrenaline-packed 24-driver elimination mode where racers are removed checkpoint by checkpoint. Supports up to 24-player online multiplayer with integrated GameChat for real-time social coordination.
- [NEXT-GEN TECHNICAL SPECS] Optimized exclusively for the Nintendo Switch 2 system to deliver stunning 4K Ultra HD resolution in docked mode and a locked 60FPS frame rate. Features enhanced texture mapping and global illumination for the most immersive visual experience in series history.
- [OPEN-WORLD EXPLORATION] Step away from the Grand Prix in the all-new Free Roam mode to wander the world at your own pace. Discover hidden surprises, unlockable vehicle parts, and brand-new drivers across diverse biomes including dense forests and sprawling urban landscapes.
What it delivers
- Large vehicle roster: More than 130 vehicles provide a broader Hot Wheels collection than the alternatives listed here.
- Track creation: Build and share tracks rather than relying only on developer-made circuits.
- Vehicle upgrades: Upgrades let you develop cars instead of treating every vehicle as a fixed preset.
- Varied modes: The game includes several racing and challenge formats beyond a single standard championship.
The Switch 2 qualification is important
Nintendo lists Unleashed 2 as a Nintendo Switch game with Switch 2 status marked “Supported – Game behavior is consistent with Nintendo Switch.” That wording means it runs on Switch 2 with behavior consistent with the original Switch version; it should not be described as a Switch 2-native edition. If you specifically want a game designed and marketed as a Switch 2 release, choose Mario Kart World, Infinite Rush’s Switch 2 edition or the Switch 2 version of CrossWorlds instead.
How it compares with Infinite Rush
Unleashed 2 is more track-focused. Infinite Rush adds four islands, free-roaming activities, secrets and environmental track building, while Unleashed 2 concentrates on constructed courses, a large existing vehicle catalog and upgrades. The two can coexist: Unleashed 2 is the pick for a mature Hot Wheels track library; Infinite Rush is the newer choice for an exploratory world and four-class progression.
What Hot Wheels Infinite Rush itself includes on Switch 2
Understanding the target game prevents a misleading alternative recommendation. Milestone describes four explorable islands with events, activities and secrets, plus four vehicle classes and more than 150 vehicles. The Track Builder uses the environment as part of the design process, so building is not limited to placing isolated pieces on a blank grid. The announcement also mentions cross-play, asynchronous and synchronous challenges, and split-screen for up to four players.

Players and race-size wording
Milestone specifies six competitors per Nintendo Switch 2 race. Nintendo’s US product listing separately displays one to four players on one system and two to 12 online. These figures describe different layers of the product: six is the stated competitor count for a Switch 2 race, while 12 is the storefront’s aggregate online-player listing. Do not treat the 12-player figure as proof that every individual race contains 12 cars.

Infinite Rush editions and downloadable content
Nintendo lists a Deluxe Edition containing the full game and the Vehicle Pass. Nintendo says all Vehicle Pass content will be available by October 2027. The standard product page currently displays the Vehicle Pass and planned downloadable-content entries, but that does not mean every future pack is included with the base edition.
Which edition should you buy?
- Standard edition: Choose this if you only want the launch game and prefer to decide about additional content later.
- Deluxe Edition: Consider it if the listed Vehicle Pass content is important and the combined price is lower than buying the components separately in your region.
- Existing Nintendo Switch owners: Check the exact product page for upgrade or entitlement information; do not infer it from a different territory’s listing.

Multiplayer, membership and setup checks
Local play
For couch multiplayer, verify that every player has a controller arrangement supported by the game and that the console is in TV or tabletop mode when required. Infinite Rush and Mario Kart World each advertise one-to-four players on one system. CrossWorlds advertises offline modes, but the exact local-player limit should be checked on the current regional product page before purchase because the supplied specifications identify its online maximum, not a universal local number.
Online play
A Nintendo Switch Online membership is required for online play where Nintendo’s regional listing says so; Nintendo UK explicitly states that requirement for Infinite Rush. Membership, broadband access and a Nintendo Account are separate from the game purchase. Player totals are not interchangeable: Mario Kart World’s 24 and CrossWorlds’ 12 are their own advertised online limits, while Infinite Rush has both a 12-player storefront listing and Milestone’s six-competitor-per-Switch-2-race statement.

Storage and downloads
The US Infinite Rush listing reports a 12.7 GB download. Keep more than that amount free because consoles can require working space for installation, patches and save-management operations. Digital availability also means you should check your console’s account region and download capacity before placing an order.
Best Value
- A variety of playable characters are available, some with unique attributes that affect gameplay and platforming physics.
- Younger and less-experienced players will love playing as Toadette, who is brand new to both games, and Nabbit, who was formerly only playable in New Super Luigi U. Both characters offer extra assistance during play.
- Multiplayer sessions are even more fun, frantic, and exciting thanks to entertaining character interactions. Need a boost? Try jumping off a teammate’s head or getting a teammate to throw you.
- Features a wealth of help features, like a Hints gallery, reference videos, and a Super Guide in New Super Mario Bros. U that can complete levels for you if they’re giving you trouble.
- Three additional modes—Boost Rush, Challenges, and Coin Battle—mix up gameplay and add replayability, while also upping the difficulty for players who want to try something harder. Players can use their Mii characters in these modes.
Common buying mistakes
- Assuming every “Switch” label means native Switch 2 software: Unleashed 2 is explicitly a supported Nintendo Switch game, not a Switch 2-native release.
- Reading an online total as a race-lobby size: Infinite Rush’s 12-player storefront figure and six-competitor race specification are not contradictory when treated as different measurements.
- Expecting toy cars from character racers: Mario Kart World and CrossWorlds match the arcade energy, but their vehicle identities differ from Hot Wheels collecting.
- Assuming future DLC is already included: The Vehicle Pass and planned entries require an edition check; only the Deluxe Edition is described as including the pass.
- Buying the wrong regional product: Release dates, ratings, online wording, prices and edition availability can vary. Recheck the Nintendo listing for your country.
Recommended buying paths
You want one game for a mixed household
Start with Mario Kart World. Its connected setting gives explorers something to do beyond individual races, while four-player local support and a 24-racer online ceiling serve groups. Accept that its characters and items replace the Hot Wheels collection model.
You already own a Nintendo Switch and want more Hot Wheels racing
Choose Hot Wheels Unleashed 2 Turbocharged if you want more than 130 vehicles, upgrades and an established track creator. Check Nintendo’s compatibility label and buy it as a supported Switch game, not as a native Switch 2 edition.
You care about experimental courses and tuning choices
Choose Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds. Its Travel Rings, 45 vehicles and 70 gadgets provide the strongest combination of course changes and configuration depth among the alternatives. Confirm whether the product page offers the Switch 2 edition or an upgrade for your current copy.
You specifically want the Infinite Rush design
Buy Hot Wheels Infinite Rush itself. Four islands, four vehicle classes, 150-plus vehicles, environmental Track Builder features and the advertised multiplayer modes are distinctive enough that no alternative is a full substitute. For the US listing, plan for a 12.7 GB digital download; in the UK, Nintendo lists PEGI 3 and a paid Nintendo Switch Online requirement for online play.
Bottom line
Mario Kart World is the best overall arcade racing game like Hot Wheels Infinite Rush on Nintendo Switch 2. It preserves the easy-to-learn racing, connected-world exploration and group play that most readers are seeking. Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds is the specialist choice for dimensional course changes and gadget customization. Hot Wheels Unleashed 2 Turbocharged remains the closest established Hot Wheels alternative, with more than 130 vehicles and track creation, but its Switch 2 status is compatibility with the older Switch version rather than a native Switch 2 release. Choose Infinite Rush itself when four-island exploration, toy-car collecting and its environment-based builder are the features you do not want to compromise.
