For most casual and returning players, start with a stable, readable profile rather than an extreme competitive preset. On PC, use an FOV of about 80, a quality-focused DLSS or FSR mode, Static global illumination, Low volumetric fog, Low foliage, Low post-processing and effects, and High or Epic view distance. On PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, use the highest comfortable FOV, disable motion blur, and raise brightness only enough to reveal dark areas. Then use the in-game performance overlay and change one option at a time.
The best starting profile
ARC Raiders has very different tuning options on PC and consoles, so there is no single universal preset. The practical goal is consistent frame time, a clear view through environmental effects, and audio that preserves directional information. A smooth 90 frames per second that your system can hold is more useful than a fluctuating peak of 140, and a readable image is more useful than a maximum-quality screenshot.

These values are a community baseline, not an item-by-item specification certified by Embark. Treat them as a starting point and keep a change only if it improves your own frame-time graph or visibility.

1. Choose a realistic frame-rate target
Pick a cap your processor and graphics card can sustain during a busy raid, not the highest number shown in an empty area. A competitive guide may target 144–200+ FPS, but that target is aimed at competitive play and is unnecessary for a casual return. A stable 60, 90, 120 or 144 FPS target is preferable to frequent drops between tiers. If your display has variable refresh rate, set the in-game cap slightly below the display’s maximum and watch the frame-time graph for consistency.

2. Select the upscaler before lowering every quality option
Use DLSS Quality or Balanced with Frame Generation on compatible NVIDIA hardware, or FSR Balanced on AMD hardware. Quality is preferable when small text, foliage edges or distant silhouettes look unstable; Balanced is useful when the GPU is the limiting component. Frame Generation can increase displayed frame rate, but it does not remove the input latency of the underlying rendered frames, so judge aiming and movement by feel rather than by the counter alone. Embark has not published a complete official breakdown of every PC upscaler, frame-cap or texture-tier behavior, so verify the labels and available modes in your current build.
3. Reduce the options that obscure targets
Set volumetric fog, foliage, post-processing and effects to Low first. Fog can veil movement, dense foliage can add distracting motion, and post-processing can introduce glare or blur. Keep view distance High or Epic when your GPU allows it; lowering it too far can make distant geometry and opponents appear late. If you still need performance, lower the upscaler quality or rendering resolution before sacrificing the distance setting that helps you identify threats.
4. Use Static global illumination
Static global illumination is the recommended starting point because it reduces lighting cost while retaining a coherent scene. Move to a more expensive lighting mode only after confirming that your frame-time budget has room and that the visual difference matters to you. Lighting quality is a lower priority than a consistent frame rate and a clean view of movement.
5. Set FOV and test for comfort
An FOV of 80 is the cited PC starting point. Increase it if peripheral awareness is more valuable to you than a larger central image, or reduce it if distant targets become too small or the wider projection causes eye strain. Test the value while sprinting, aiming and looking down from a height; a setting that feels comfortable in a menu can feel distorted during traversal.

Change one option, return to the same type of scene, and compare the overlay. A short test in a quiet menu cannot predict performance during combat with weather, effects and several players. Keep notes of the last change that helped so you can undo a setting that makes image quality worse without improving frame time.
Console settings for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S
The official ARC Raiders site lists PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC availability, with cross-platform social play. Consoles expose fewer individual graphics controls than PC, so concentrate on the settings that affect comfort and information.

Start at the highest value you can use without tunnel-like distortion, motion discomfort or difficulty reading distant targets. If sprinting causes nausea, step down one increment rather than forcing the widest setting. The best console FOV is the one you can use for a full session while still identifying targets.
Turn motion blur off
Disable motion blur to keep the scene legible during quick turns and camera movement. This is especially helpful when returning after a long break, because your visual system is readjusting to the game’s traversal speed.
Adjust brightness with a reference scene
Raise brightness until dark corners reveal objects and movement, then stop before bright surfaces lose detail. Excessive brightness flattens contrast and can make silhouettes harder to separate from the background. Recheck after changing your television or monitor’s HDR, black-level or picture mode; the in-game slider cannot correct a mismatched display range.

Audio: standard mode or Night Mode?
ARC Raiders provides Stereo/Headphones output plus separate sliders for effects, music, dialogue, party chat and proximity chat. Set the output device first, then make effects clear enough to hear movement before adjusting the other channels.
What Night Mode changes
Night Mode compresses dynamic range: loud sounds such as gunshots and explosions become quieter while soft sounds such as footsteps become louder. This can help if sudden peaks make you lower the entire volume or if you play late at night and need to protect household volume.
Why it is not automatically better for footsteps
Compression can make distance and direction less distinct. Night Mode may also raise the apparent level of ambient noise, causing nearby and distant sounds to blend. PC Gamer’s explanation of the mode describes the same trade-off: quieter peaks and louder soft sounds, but potentially muddier positioning. Test it in a match with a friend moving around you, not only in a quiet menu. Keep the mode that lets you tell whether a sound is left or right, near or far, and above or below you.
Balance the individual channels
- Effects: Keep this high enough for footsteps, weapon handling and environmental cues.
- Music: Lower it if it masks movement or voice information.
- Dialogue: Set it for intelligibility without making spoken lines overpower effects.
- Party chat: Adjust separately so coordinated teammates remain audible.
- Proximity chat: Keep it distinct from party chat so nearby players do not sound like squad members.
A stereo headset is optional, not a requirement. Whatever device you use, verify that the console or PC is sending audio to the intended output before judging Night Mode or channel levels.
Controls, subtitles and accessibility
Returning players often remember their old sensitivity but forget the information settings that affect readability. ARC Raiders includes subtitles, colorblind mode, flash-color inversion and font-size controls. These options do not provide a competitive advantage by themselves; use them when they make information easier to parse.

- Subtitles: Increase the font size if dialogue is difficult to read at your normal seating distance.
- Colorblind mode: Choose the variant that separates the game’s important markers on your display rather than selecting one by name alone.
- Flash-color inversion: Enable it if bright effects cause discomfort or obscure the scene.
- Output device: Confirm Stereo/Headphones and the correct hardware before troubleshooting directional audio.
- Voice channels: Configure party and proximity chat independently so one does not drown out the other.
Make these changes before tuning sensitivity. Otherwise, you may compensate for unreadable effects or oversized text by changing controls that were not the actual problem.

Do not treat the performance recovery profile as a permanent low-quality requirement. Restore one setting at a time after solving the bottleneck and stop when the game remains stable in combat.

Frame rate is low after lowering graphics
Check the overlay. If it says CPU-Game, further texture, fog or effect reductions will not address the simulation limit. Set a lower cap, close unnecessary background programs and check for thermal or power-mode throttling. If it says GPU, lower rendering resolution or the upscaler mode and test again.
Distant players appear late
Restore view distance to High or Epic before raising other quality settings. A low distance value can reduce the amount of geometry maintained away from the camera. If the GPU cannot sustain it, use a more efficient upscaler mode rather than immediately lowering distance.

The image looks smeared while moving
Disable motion blur, then move from FSR or DLSS Balanced to Quality if performance permits. Check whether post-processing or effects are adding blur. If the problem appears only with Frame Generation, compare the base rendered frame rate and input feel with Frame Generation temporarily disabled.

Night Mode makes audio harder to place
Switch back to the standard dynamic range, confirm Stereo/Headphones output, and retest with party and proximity chat at separate levels. Night Mode is a preference tool, not a guaranteed footsteps enhancement.
Dark areas are either invisible or washed out
Use the in-game brightness slider conservatively, then check the display’s HDR and black-level settings. Adjust one layer at a time; changing both the game and display together makes it difficult to identify the source of the crushed blacks or faded highlights.
What to avoid
Do not build a normal settings guide around hidden console commands or configuration edits. GamesRadar reported that Embark removed the “NewConsole” command in a hotfix. Embark community lead Ossen said the feature was never intended to be player-facing and that related reports could prompt action to protect fair play and game integrity. Unsupported commands can disappear after an update, create inconsistent visuals, or put an account at unnecessary risk. Use the settings exposed in the current menus instead.

Likewise, do not assume that every precise number in a third-party guide is an official requirement. Tutorial.Games notes that Embark’s public documentation does not provide a complete item-by-item PC graphics list, including definitive claims about every upscaler, ray-tracing option, frame cap or texture tier. Validate each option in your own menu and hardware.
A five-minute setup checklist for returning players
- Confirm the correct monitor or television mode and audio output device.
- Set a frame-rate cap your hardware can sustain during a busy raid.
- On PC, start with FOV 80, quality upscaling, Static lighting, Low fog/foliage/post-processing/effects and High or Epic view distance.
- On console, choose the highest comfortable FOV, disable motion blur and raise brightness only enough to reveal dark areas.
- Enable the performance overlay and identify GPU, CPU-Render or CPU-Game limits.
- Change one setting, repeat a comparable movement or combat test, and keep only measurable or clearly visible improvements.
- Set effects, party chat and proximity chat independently; test Night Mode for direction before keeping it.
- Enable subtitles, font-size, colorblind or flash-color options whenever they improve readability or comfort.
This process produces a dependable personal baseline without relying on unsupported commands or a competitive target that your system cannot hold.
