The most reliable ARC Raiders setup for detecting campers and approaching ARC machines combines clear stereo audio with a low-clutter, stable graphics profile. Start with a stereo headset, Effects Volume at 100%, music and dialogue reduced, Night Mode tested in real fights, FOV around 80, motion blur disabled, low fog and foliage, and High or Epic view distance. Then validate the profile in a quiet area, an outdoor route, a machine fight and an extraction approach rather than trusting a preset blindly.
Recommended baseline settings
ARC Raiders is a multiplayer extraction adventure set on a dangerous future Earth dominated by mechanized ARC threats. Because survival depends on noticing another Raider or machine before it notices you, settings should favor directional information, readable sightlines and consistent frame time instead of cinematic effects.
| Area | Starting point | Why it helps |
|---|---|---|
| Headphones | Stereo headset or headphones | Improves left-right and front-back positioning compared with speakers. |
| Master Volume | 100%, reduced only for comfort | Preserves the full level of environmental cues. |
| Effects Volume | 100% | Keeps footsteps, combat, machines and nearby movement prominent. |
| Music | 0% | Prevents music from masking quiet movement. |
| Dialogue | 0% when threat detection is the priority | Reduces nonessential speech during a raid. |
| Party Voice Chat | 100% | Keeps squad communication audible. |
| Proximity Voice Chat | 100%, with push-to-talk | Lets you hear nearby players without an open microphone adding noise. |
| Field of view | 80 on PC; use the highest available value on console | Broadens peripheral awareness without the strongest wide-angle distortion. |
| Motion blur | Off | Keeps moving targets and quick camera turns readable. |
| RTX global illumination | Static | Reduces the cost of dynamic lighting while retaining a consistent scene. |
| Volumetric fog | Low | Reduces atmospheric haze that can obscure silhouettes and sightlines. |
| Foliage | Low | Removes small bushes and visual clutter; large hiding bushes remain. |
| Post-processing and effects | Low | Favors a cleaner image and steadier performance. |
| View distance | High or Epic if performance allows | Preserves recognition of distant Raiders and ARC units. |
| Upscaling | DLSS Quality or Balanced, or FSR Balanced | Improves frame rate while retaining more detail than aggressive scaling. |
These are starting values, not guarantees. Your hearing, headset, display, graphics card, resolution, frame-time consistency and the current game patch all affect the result.
Audio settings for hearing footsteps and machine movement
Use stereo headphones before changing sliders
A stereo headset or pair of headphones is the most direct hardware improvement for locating footsteps, nearby movement and ARC machinery. Speakers can blur the direction of a sound through room reflections and cross-talk. Headphones do not make every cue obvious, but they give the game’s left-right positioning information a better chance of reaching you accurately.
#1 Best Overall
- TRIFORCE TITANIUM 50 MM DRIVERS — Our cutting-edge proprietary design divides the driver into 3 parts for the individual tuning of highs, mids, and lows—producing brighter, clearer audio with richer highs and more powerful lows
- HYPERCLEAR CARDIOID MIC — An improved pickup pattern ensures more voice and less noise as it tapers off towards the mic’s back and sides, with the sweet spot easily placed at the mouth because of the mic’s bendable design
- ADVANCED PASSIVE NOISE CANCELLATION — Sturdy closed earcups fully cover the ears to prevent noise from leaking into the headset, with its cushions providing a closer seal for more sound isolation
- LIGHTWEIGHT DESIGN WITH MEMORY FOAM EAR CUSHIONS — At just 240 g, the headset features thicker headband padding and memory foam ear cushions with leatherette to keep gaming in peak form during grueling tournaments and training sessions
- WORKS WITH WINDOWS SONIC — Make the most of the headset’s powerful drivers by pairing it with lifelike surround sound that places audio with pinpoint accuracy, heightening in-game awareness and immersion
Use the normal stereo output first. Do not add a virtual-surround layer unless you have tested it and can still identify whether a sound is in front, behind, above or below you. Extra processing can help one listener and confuse another.
Prioritize effects over entertainment audio
Set Effects Volume to 100%. Footsteps, gunfire, impacts, machine movement and nearby environmental activity are the sounds that tell you a threat is close. Keep Master Volume as high as is comfortable, lowering it if the level becomes fatiguing rather than compensating by turning down effects.
Set Music to 0% or as low as you can tolerate. Music is useful for atmosphere but can cover a soft step or mechanical scrape at the moment you need it. Dialogue can also be reduced or muted when your immediate goal is threat detection. A practical communications profile is Master 100%, Effects 100%, Music 0%, Dialogue 0%, Party Voice Chat 100% and Proximity Voice Chat 100%.
Decide whether Night Mode helps your ears
Night Mode is an on/off option in the audio menu that reduces dynamic range. In theory, quieter sounds such as footsteps become easier to hear because the gap between loud and quiet events is smaller. That can be useful if you play at a low listening level, share a room, or struggle to pick out soft cues.
The trade-off is positional information. Compressing the range can make ambience and distant sounds more prominent, and that may muddy the sense of distance or direction. If a footstep becomes louder but you can no longer tell whether it is approaching from behind or coming from a nearby building, Night Mode is hurting the part of audio that matters most.
Test it in four situations:
- Stand in a quiet area and listen for the smallest movement cues.
- Run an outdoor route with changing ambience and elevation.
- Fight or observe an ARC machine while several loud effects overlap.
- Approach an extraction point where a hidden Raider could be nearby.
Keep Night Mode on only if it improves your ability to notice and place threats across those situations. Keep it off when distance and direction become less clear. There is no universal winner because hearing sensitivity, volume level and headset tuning differ.
Prevent voice chat from masking danger
Proximity chat is open by default, so an open microphone can add breathing, keyboard noise or room sound while you are trying to hear a camper. Use push-to-talk and assign a key you can reach without releasing movement controls. If your group uses party chat, keep party volume high enough for coordination while avoiding a level that overwhelms effects.

PC graphics settings for clearer sightlines
Choose FOV for awareness without excessive distortion
Start at FOV 80. This gives a broad view for scanning corners and peripheral movement without the strongest wide-angle stretching. A wider value can expose more of the sides of the screen, but it also makes distant targets appear smaller and can exaggerate edge distortion. A narrower value enlarges targets yet removes peripheral information that a camper can exploit.
Use the same FOV while testing other settings. Changing FOV and upscaling together makes it difficult to tell which adjustment changed target visibility.
Remove blur and expensive atmospheric clutter
Disable motion blur. Blur can smear a moving Raider or machine during a quick turn, and it makes a short visual confirmation harder when you are reacting to a sound.
Set RTX global illumination to Static, volumetric fog to Low, foliage to Low, and post-processing and effects to Low when visibility and frame stability are the priority. Static lighting and reduced fog make silhouettes and openings easier to read. Low foliage removes small bushes and clutter that can hide a crouched player or break up the outline of an ARC unit.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteLow foliage is not an invisibility switch. Large hiding bushes are unaffected, so do not assume every patch of vegetation disappears for you or for another player. Treat the setting as a way to reduce minor clutter, not as permission to ignore substantial cover.
Keep view distance high when your hardware permits
Use High view distance as a baseline and raise it to Epic if your system can maintain a stable frame rate. View distance is the setting most directly tied to recognizing a distant Raider, machine or movement pattern before you commit to a route. Lowering it may improve performance, but it can also remove useful detail or reduce the time you have to react.
One published PC test using an RTX 4070 reported an average of 104 frames per second and a 55 FPS 1% low at 1080p. That is a result from one test system and configuration, not a target that every PC will reproduce. The 1% low is especially important: brief drops can make a turning target harder to track even when the average frame rate looks good.

Use upscaling before cutting important detail
Try DLSS Quality or Balanced, or FSR Balanced. These modes can recover performance while retaining more image detail than aggressive resolution scaling. If frame rate remains unstable, lower resolution scaling gradually and check distant edges, foliage and machine silhouettes after each change.

Frame generation can add displayed frames, but it may increase input latency, particularly with mouse and keyboard. If aiming or reacting feels delayed, turn frame generation off and prefer a genuinely stable rendered frame rate. A lower but consistent latency profile is usually more useful for spotting and responding to a camper than a higher counter with delayed input.
Console settings and platform limits
PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S expose fewer graphics controls than PC. Use the maximum available FOV, turn motion blur off, and adjust brightness only enough to reveal dark interiors. If brightness is pushed too far, highlights wash out and silhouettes lose contrast outdoors.
Because console menus provide fewer independent controls, concentrate on the settings that remain available: FOV, blur and brightness. Audio choices still matter, so use stereo headphones, prioritize effects and evaluate Night Mode with the same four-situation test used on PC.

Maximum positional audio
- Stereo headphones.
- Effects 100%, Master as high as comfortable.
- Music and dialogue at 0%.
- Night Mode off unless compression clearly improves placement for you.
- Push-to-talk for proximity chat.
This profile favors distance and direction. It is the better starting point when you already hear quiet sounds but struggle to place them.
Low-volume or noisy-room profile
- Stereo headphones at a comfortable listening level.
- Effects 100%, with music and dialogue reduced.
- Night Mode on for testing.
- Push-to-talk enabled.
This profile favors audibility. Turn Night Mode back off if ambience becomes confusing or every sound seems equally near.
Visibility and frame-stability profile
- FOV 80.
- Motion blur off.
- Static RTX global illumination.
- Low volumetric fog, foliage, post-processing and effects.
- High view distance, or Epic when frame time remains stable.
- DLSS Quality/Balanced or FSR Balanced.
- Frame generation off if input latency is noticeable.
This profile reduces clutter without sacrificing the distant recognition that High or Epic view distance provides.

- Game for Hours in Comfort. Everything about these headphones is about comfort: The deluxe lightweight leatherette ear cups and headband are made to keep pressure off your ears. Ear cups rotate up to 90 degrees for convenience.
A repeatable way to validate your setup
- Apply one profile and leave every other setting unchanged.
- Visit a quiet area and identify the direction of subtle movement.
- Repeat the test outdoors while moving between open ground and cover.
- Observe an ARC machine or enter a machine fight; check whether loud effects hide smaller cues.
- Approach an extraction point and scan for both visual silhouettes and audio direction.
- Change only one setting, then repeat the same route.
- Keep the change only when it improves detection without unacceptable frame-time or input-latency costs.
Record practical observations rather than relying only on a frame-rate counter: Can you tell front from rear? Do distant machines remain recognizable? Does a quick turn stay sharp? Do dark rooms show detail without bleaching outdoor highlights? These answers determine the best setting for your system.
Common mistakes and fixes
Raising every volume slider
More volume is not the same as more information. Music, dialogue and open-mic noise can mask effects. Keep effects prominent and remove competing layers first.

Assuming Night Mode is automatically better
Night Mode can expose quiet footsteps, but its reduced dynamic range can muddy distance and positioning. Compare it in quiet, outdoor, combat and extraction conditions.
Lowering view distance to improve every problem
Reducing view distance may raise performance while costing early recognition of distant Raiders and ARC units. Try upscaling and lower-cost atmospheric settings before cutting this control.
Chasing average FPS while ignoring 1% lows
A high average can hide momentary stutter. Watch for inconsistent frame time and test camera turns, aiming and machine encounters. If frame generation makes controls feel delayed, disable it.
Expecting low foliage to remove major cover
Small bushes and clutter may disappear, but large hiding bushes remain. Use sound, route discipline and deliberate scans rather than assuming vegetation is transparent.
Crashes, No Sound, or Screen Glitches?

No menu can reveal a player who makes no movement, and no graphics preset guarantees that every machine will be visible through terrain or weather. Audio positioning also depends on your hearing and headphone fit. Live-service updates can change menu names, defaults or performance, and PC offers more customization than the console versions. Recheck your profile after a major patch.
The practical goal is not the brightest image, the loudest sound or the highest advertised frame rate. It is a consistent combination in which footsteps retain direction, distant machines remain recognizable, clutter does not dominate the screen and controls respond immediately when a threat appears.
