The best choice depends on where you live and what you need from the phone. For most US buyers, the Moto G 2026 is the straightforward budget option; choose the Moto G Power for battery life and durability, the Moto G Stylus 2026 for handwriting, the Galaxy A17 5G for long stated software support, the TCL NXTPAPER 70 Pro for a paper-like display, or the Sony Xperia 10 VII for a compact body. The Galaxy A55 5G is a strong international midrange alternative, but it was not launched in the US.
Check before buying: microSD support, maximum card capacity, SIM-tray design, carrier compatibility and update policy can change by country and exact model number. The capacity printed on a card standard is not proof that a particular phone accepts that capacity.

What to verify before ordering
Country and carrier compatibility
A phone can have a microSD slot yet be unavailable, poorly supported or incompatible with networks in your country. The A55 5G and Xperia 10 VII are examples of models discussed internationally but not officially sold in the US. Imported phones may lack local warranty service, eSIM support or the LTE and 5G bands used by your carrier. Check the manufacturer’s page for your country, the exact model number on the retailer listing and your carrier’s compatibility checker.
Exact storage and tray configuration
Storage options and trays can differ between regional variants. Confirm whether the phone has a dedicated microSD position or a shared SIM/microSD tray, and whether inserting a second SIM prevents card use. A product title that says “expandable storage” does not establish the maximum capacity; use the phone’s manual or support page for that figure.

Motorola Moto G 2026: the broad US budget pick
Motorola’s US product page lists Android 16, 128GB of internal storage and microSD expansion up to 1TB. That combination makes the Moto G 2026 an easy recommendation when your priority is adding space for photos, downloaded video and music without paying for a higher internal-storage tier. Motorola’s support listings also include the model, although support pages can be organized by region.
Performance and camera quality are aimed at everyday tasks rather than demanding gaming or intensive video work. The reason to buy it is the practical storage design and low entry price, not flagship speed. Confirm the US model number and card ceiling on the sales page you intend to use; a similarly named international model may have different memory or network specifications.
Moto G Power (2025 or 2026): battery and durability first
The 2025 Moto G Power is described as a value phone with a 5,000mAh battery, IP68/IP69 protection and two guaranteed operating-system upgrades. Those ratings are useful if the phone will be exposed to dust, rain or accidental splashes, but water resistance is not a promise that every type of liquid or physical damage is covered by warranty.
Coverage of the 2026 generation lists a 5,200mAh battery and microSD expansion, while noting that it does not include wireless charging. Do not assume the 2025 and 2026 versions have identical cameras, charging speeds, card limits or update schedules. Compare the exact generation sold in your country, then choose the newer model only if its price and support horizon justify the difference.

Moto G Stylus 2026: the expandable phone for handwriting

Android Authority reported a $500 starting price for its coverage; that is a dated starting figure rather than a guaranteed current price in every market. Android 16 is included in the reported configuration.
Android Central reports up to 1TB of microSD support and two years of operating-system updates plus three years of security updates delivered every two months. Verify those terms for your regional model before relying on them for a long ownership period. If you never use a pen, a less expensive Moto G may provide similar storage utility; the stylus is the reason to pay for this model.
TCL NXTPAPER 70 Pro: a large display with viewing modes
The NXTPAPER 70 Pro is aimed at readers who value screen treatment as much as raw specifications. Android Authority describes a 6.9-inch 120Hz display, Android 16 and NXTPAPER technology with multiple color and paper-style viewing modes. Android Central reports a local-storage expansion ceiling of up to 2TB.
Because the 2TB figure is reported for particular coverage and may vary by region, consult the manual for the exact phone before purchasing a card at that capacity. Check brightness, camera performance and software support in your market as well; a comfortable display does not automatically make this the fastest or best-supported option.
Samsung Galaxy A17 5G: inexpensive everyday use with a long stated policy
Android Authority reported a $200 price, a 5,000mAh battery, a 90Hz AMOLED display and six years of software updates. The price is time-sensitive, and update commitments can be tied to the launch market or model number. Its performance is modest, so it suits messaging, streaming, navigation and social apps better than demanding games.

The A55 5G combines balanced midrange hardware with expandable storage and was the winner of an Android Authority reader poll. The poll covered just over 1,500 votes; 25.9% selected the A55, 23.7% selected the Moto G Stylus 2026 and 22.4% selected the Xperia 10 VII. That is a snapshot of reader preference, not a representative survey of all phone buyers.
Android Authority noted, “The A55 topping this list is perhaps a surprise, given that the phone didn’t launch in the US and only received a 7/10 in our review.” For buyers outside the US, it can be a sensible middle ground, but confirm local availability, software-support terms, card capacity and warranty coverage for the exact variant.
Sony Xperia 10 VII: compact hardware with long support
The Xperia 10 VII has a 6.1-inch display, making it one of the more compact current choices with removable storage. Android Authority reports support for cards up to 2TB, up to four operating-system upgrades and six years of security updates. The phone is not officially sold in the US, so an imported unit may involve higher pricing, delayed updates, limited warranty service and uncertain carrier compatibility.
Choose it for the smaller body and support horizon, not merely because its format ceiling is large. A high-capacity card cannot compensate for a model that is difficult to repair or activate on your network.

Understanding microSD capacity and speed
What the card labels mean
Samsung’s guide separates cards into three formats: microSD cards up to 2GB, microSDHC from 2GB through 32GB, and microSDXC above 32GB through 2TB. These are format ranges, not universal phone limits. A handset may support microSDXC but accept only 512GB or 1TB, and some models may impose a lower tested limit.
Match the card to the phone
Use the manufacturer’s stated maximum for the exact model and region. For example, the US Moto G 2026 page specifies expansion up to 1TB, making a 1TB microSDXC card a relevant maximum-size choice. A phone reported to accept up to 2TB should still be checked against its current manual before you spend more on a 2TB card.
Choose speed for the workload
Speed-class markings indicate a card’s minimum sustained write speed. Samsung recommends microSDXC for high-resolution video because it offers greater capacity and faster read/write potential than older formats. For ordinary photos, music and documents, a reputable card that meets the phone’s stated class is usually sufficient; video recording benefits more from meeting the camera’s required write-speed class than from buying the largest possible capacity.
Do not assume apps can move
Removable storage is commonly used for media and files. Android does not universally let you install or move every app to a microSD card, and the cited specifications establish expansion rather than universal adoptable-storage support. Check the phone’s storage settings and help pages if moving apps is a deciding requirement.

How to install and prepare a card
- Back up photos, videos and documents from the phone before opening the tray. Keep a copy elsewhere because formatting erases the card.
- Power off the phone unless its manual explicitly permits hot removal. Insert the card in the marked microSD position; on a hybrid tray, make sure you are not sacrificing the second SIM unintentionally.
- Power on and open the notification or Settings > Storage screen. Android may offer to format the card as portable storage.
- Choose portable storage when you need to move the card between devices or read it with a computer. Use device/adoptable storage only when the phone explicitly supports it and you accept that the card may be encrypted and unusable elsewhere.
- After formatting, set the camera or download app to save new media to the card if that option exists. Keep essential documents in another backup location.
- Before removal, use Settings > Storage > Eject (the wording varies) and wait for confirmation. Removing a card while files are being written can corrupt data.

Buying by the card’s capacity alone
A 2TB microSDXC label describes the card format, not your phone’s acceptance. Fix the mistake by locating the model-specific maximum in the manufacturer’s manual or support page before checkout.

Mixing generations with similar names
Moto G Power 2025 and 2026 are different devices, and regional storage or update policies can differ again. Record the full model name, year and model number on the invoice.
Assuming an imported phone will work like a local one
Imported A55 5G or Xperia 10 VII units may lack local warranty coverage, supported bands or timely service. Confirm those items with your carrier and the seller’s return policy.
Using a slow or counterfeit card
Recording failures, missing files and unusually slow transfers often indicate a card that does not meet the camera’s speed requirement or is not genuine. Buy from a reliable source, test the card before filling it and retain irreplaceable files elsewhere.

Interrupting a write can damage the file system. Eject it through Android’s storage controls and wait for the safe-removal message.
