Microsoft SwiftKey is the strongest all-round alternative to Gboard for swipe typing when adaptive predictions matter; Grammarly Keyboard is the better fit when grammar and rewriting matter more than speed; AnySoftKeyboard suits privacy-minded users who want an open-source project; and Samsung Keyboard is the practical choice on Galaxy phones because of its system integration. No current, controlled head-to-head test establishes one keyboard as universally fastest or most accurate. Swipe recognition depends on your language, vocabulary, phone, settings and typing habits, so treat the categories below as decision guides rather than laboratory rankings.
Gboard remains the useful baseline because it combines Glide Typing, voice input, handwriting, emoji and GIF search, multilingual typing, in-line translation, one-handed layout and themes. The alternatives become compelling when you want different prediction behavior, stronger writing assistance, fewer permissions, open-source software or tighter Samsung-device integration.
At-a-glance: which keyboard fits your priority?
| Keyboard | Best fit | Documented strengths | Important qualification |
|---|---|---|---|
| Gboard | Broad feature and language coverage | Glide Typing, voice and handwriting input, emoji and GIF search, multilingual typing, Google Translate while typing, one-handed mode and themes | Use it as the baseline; Google’s help page says writing-tool input is not shared with Google or any app, but review current permissions and feature settings |
| Microsoft SwiftKey | Personalized predictions and swipe correction | Microsoft says it learns and adapts to your slang, nicknames and emoji | You can continue without granting permissions, although some features may be limited or unavailable |
| Grammarly Keyboard | Grammar, spelling and rewriting help | Grammarly’s AI writing assistance works across Android and iOS apps | Install the Android keyboard through Google Play and check which assistance features are available for your account and region |
| AnySoftKeyboard | Open-source and privacy-oriented experimentation | An open-source option for users who prefer a keyboard outside the largest commercial ecosystems | Check the project’s current language packs, maintenance status and permission disclosures before relying on it |
| Samsung Keyboard | Samsung Galaxy owners | Built-in integration with Samsung phones and their system settings | The experience is most relevant on Samsung hardware; options can vary by One UI version and region |
| Fleksy | Customization-first users | A 2026 comparison positions it as a customization-oriented alternative | Confirm current swipe, language and privacy features in the Play listing before switching |
The labels in this table describe documented positioning and practical fit, not a measured accuracy league table.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsWhy swipe typing feels different between keyboards
Swipe typing turns a continuous finger path into a sequence of likely words. The recognizer estimates which letters you intended, then a language model ranks possible words using the path, nearby keys, sentence context and your personal vocabulary. Two keyboards can interpret the same gesture differently because they use different dictionaries, correction rules and learning systems.

That is why a keyboard that wins for one person can feel wrong for another. A writer who uses technical terms, names or regional slang may value a keyboard that learns those words. Someone composing work messages may prefer grammar suggestions even if a correction requires an extra tap. A bilingual user may care more about fast language switching than about a small difference in recognition.
Phone size, keyboard height, haptic feedback, autocorrection aggressiveness and your own swipe path also affect the result. Before judging an alternative, give it enough time to learn common words and adjust its layout. Compare the same apps, languages and sentence types rather than relying on a few minutes of first use.
Gboard: the baseline you are replacing
Google Play describes Gboard’s “Glide Typing — Type faster by sliding your finger from letter to letter.” Its feature set also includes voice typing, handwriting, emoji and GIF search, multilingual typing, Google Translate while typing, one-handed mode and themes. The listing showed more than 10 billion downloads and a 4.5-star rating when crawled in September 2026; both figures are volatile store metadata, not permanent quality scores.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Gboard is a sensible baseline for a comparison because it covers more than swipe recognition. If you regularly dictate messages, write in multiple languages, translate while composing or use one-handed mode, an alternative must match the specific features you actually use. A keyboard that feels slightly better for English swipes may still be a poor trade if it lacks your second language or a needed input method.
Gboard’s stated writing-input privacy
Google’s Gboard Help page states: “Your input text isn’t shared with Google or any app.” That statement refers to the writing-tool input described on that help page. It does not remove the need to inspect the current Android permission screen, optional cloud or personalization settings and the behavior of individual features. Treat privacy as a settings-and-use-case question, not as a permanent label attached to an app.
Microsoft SwiftKey: the most direct Gboard alternative for adaptive prediction
SwiftKey is the first alternative to try when your main complaint is that a keyboard does not learn how you actually write. Microsoft’s Google Play description says the keyboard is “always learning and adapting to match your unique way of typing,” including slang, nicknames and emoji. That is particularly relevant if your swipe vocabulary contains names, abbreviations or informal expressions that a generic dictionary repeatedly changes.

What the learning claim means in practice
Adaptive prediction can improve the words shown above the keyboard and the corrections selected after a swipe. It does not guarantee perfect recognition: the model still has to infer your path, and a rare word may remain ambiguous. Give the keyboard representative text over several sessions, then watch whether it begins offering your preferred forms. If it keeps replacing a name or technical term, add that word to the personal dictionary or disable the specific correction that causes the problem.
Permissions and reduced-feature use
SwiftKey’s listing says you can continue without granting permissions, although some features may be limited or unavailable. This gives privacy-conscious users a way to evaluate the core keyboard before enabling optional capabilities. During setup, read each permission request and decide whether the related feature is worth it. A reduced-permission configuration may change predictions or synchronization, so judge the configuration you actually plan to keep.
Who should choose SwiftKey?
- People whose swipe errors involve slang, nicknames, emoji or personal terminology.
- Users who want an adaptive prediction system but still want the option to proceed without every permission.
- Anyone comparing against Gboard and willing to spend several days letting a new keyboard learn.
Grammarly Keyboard: choose writing assistance over pure swipe specialization
Grammarly positions its keyboard around AI writing assistance across Android and iOS apps and directs Android users to install Grammarly Keyboard through Google Play. Its value is not a published swipe-speed advantage; it is help with spelling, grammar, clarity and rewriting while you type in supported apps.
When Grammarly is the better trade
Choose it when the consequence of a typo or awkward sentence is more important than shaving a gesture from a message. Students, support agents and people writing professional English may prefer an explanation or rewrite suggestion after the swipe has produced a plausible word. That workflow adds a review step, but it can prevent errors that ordinary autocorrection misses.
Questions to answer before installing
- Which languages and writing suggestions do you need? Verify them in the current Play listing and in-app settings.
- Are the AI assistance features available under your account and in your region?
- Do you want suggestions in every app, or only when composing selected documents and messages?
Grammarly’s documented strength is writing quality. The available material does not establish that it recognizes swipes faster or more accurately than Gboard or SwiftKey, so evaluate it on the corrections you need rather than on an assumed speed ranking.

AnySoftKeyboard: an open-source, privacy-oriented path
AnySoftKeyboard is the option to investigate when ownership, inspectability and control matter more than a large commercial feature bundle. Open-source availability can make the project attractive to users who want to examine its code or choose language packs independently of a major platform provider.

- 3 Devices Switch with A Single Clicking: This keyboard is able to connect to 3 devices at the same time. You can switch between 3 devices with a single key clicking.
- Ergonomic design: Stainless steel material gives heavy duty feeling, low-profile keys, full size keys, arrow keys, number pad, shortcuts offer quiet and comfortable typing.
- Broad Compatibility: Use with all four major operating systems supporting Bluetooth (iOS, Android, Mac OS and Windows), including Computer, Desktop, PC, Laptop / iPad Pro, iPad Air, iPad, iPad Min, iPhone, Smartphone / Android Tablets like Samsung Galaxy, Surface etc.

- Package contents: Arteck Stainless Bluetooth Keyboard, USB charging cable, welcome guide, our 24-month warranty and friendly customer service.
What to verify before making it your daily keyboard
- Confirm that the project’s current release supports your Android version and preferred languages.
- Check how language packs are installed and whether they are maintained.
- Read the current Play or project documentation for permissions and data handling.
- Test swipe recognition with your real vocabulary; open-source does not automatically mean better recognition.
Because privacy practices and maintenance can change between releases, do not infer present behavior from an old review. Download only from the project’s current, clearly identified distribution channel and keep a second keyboard available while testing.
Samsung Keyboard: the practical choice for Galaxy phones
Samsung Keyboard deserves consideration primarily because it is integrated with Samsung phones. System-level integration can make language switching, layout controls and device-specific features feel more consistent than a third-party replacement. The exact controls depend on the Galaxy model, One UI version and region.
When Samsung integration outweighs switching
Stay with Samsung Keyboard if it already handles your languages, swipe corrections and one-handed use adequately and you value the phone’s native settings. Switching can introduce a second set of preferences and may remove access to Samsung-specific behaviors. Conversely, if your main issue is poor personalization or missing writing assistance, test SwiftKey or Grammarly rather than assuming integration alone will fix recognition.
Fleksy and other customization-led choices
A May 23, 2026 comparison from Techtippr positions Fleksy for customization. That is useful guidance for someone who wants to change the keyboard’s appearance or interaction model, but it is not a controlled measurement of swipe accuracy. Confirm current themes, language support, gesture controls and privacy disclosures in the live listing before deciding.
Customization should solve a specific problem: a taller layout can reduce missed taps, a different key arrangement may suit a one-handed grip, and a theme can improve contrast. Do not assume that more visual options imply better prediction. Compare recognition and correction behavior separately from appearance.
Privacy: compare the configuration, not just the app name
An Android keyboard can see the text you enter because it is the input method. That makes permission choices and optional services central to the decision. Read the current disclosure for each candidate, then review Android’s permission and keyboard settings after installation.

Practical privacy checks
- Install the keyboard from its current official store or project source.
- Open the app’s privacy or permissions screen before enabling optional features.
- Grant only permissions needed for the functions you intend to use.
- Look for personalization, synchronization, voice, translation and cloud-writing options; each can have different data implications.
- Revisit the settings after updates, because feature availability and disclosures can change.
Gboard’s Help statement about writing-tool input is a specific claim, not a universal guarantee about every keyboard feature. SwiftKey explicitly says it can be used without granting permissions, with possible feature limits. For AnySoftKeyboard and every other option, rely on the current project or store disclosure rather than an old privacy roundup.

Language support and switching
Gboard advertises hundreds of language varieties, which is a major reason multilingual users keep it installed. The relevant question is whether your exact languages, scripts and regional spellings are supported—not the headline count. Check dictionary availability, swipe support and transliteration for each language you use.
SwiftKey’s adaptive model may be useful for a bilingual vocabulary, but verify how your language pair behaves before making it your only keyboard. Grammarly’s assistance is tied to the languages and apps it supports. AnySoftKeyboard may require separate language packs. Samsung Keyboard’s choices can vary by Galaxy model and region.
A reliable switching test
- List every language and script you use in a normal week.
- Install the candidate keyboard and enable only those languages.
- Swipe a paragraph containing names, numbers, punctuation and code or technical terms if those are part of your work.
- Switch languages mid-sentence and test whether the intended dictionary remains active.
- Repeat after several days of ordinary use, when personalization has had time to affect predictions.
How to install and compare keyboards safely
- Keep Gboard or your current keyboard enabled as a fallback.
- Install one alternative at a time from its current official distribution page.
- Open Android’s keyboard settings. On many phones this is under Settings > System > Languages & input > On-screen keyboard; Samsung phones may place it under General management > Keyboard list and default.
- Enable the new keyboard and select it as the default input method.
- Configure languages, layout height, one-handed mode, haptics and correction settings before judging swipe behavior.
- Test in several apps, including a message, a note and a longer form. Some writing-assistance features may not appear in every app.
- If the keyboard behaves poorly, switch back through the same settings screen, then disable or uninstall the alternative.
Android menu names vary by manufacturer and software version. If a path differs, search Settings for “keyboard” or “default input method” rather than granting permissions blindly through a pop-up.

Adjust the physical target
Increase keyboard height if your swipes routinely miss the top or bottom row; reduce it if long gestures feel uncomfortable. One-handed mode can help on a large phone, while a wider layout may reduce accidental neighboring letters when using two thumbs.
Separate recognition from correction
When a word is wrong, determine whether the path was misread or the right path was autocorrected into another word. Try the same gesture slowly, then tap the intended suggestion. If recognition is fine but corrections are aggressive, change autocorrection or personal-dictionary settings instead of replacing the keyboard.

Teach personal vocabulary deliberately
Add names, places, product terms and slang you use often. Adaptive systems can learn, but explicit dictionary entries reduce repeated corrections. Avoid adding temporary typos, because they can make future suggestions worse.
Use the right input method for the sentence
Voice typing can be faster for long passages, handwriting can help with some scripts, and copy-and-paste may beat a difficult swipe for a rare word. Gboard documents all three alongside Glide Typing; alternatives may offer a different subset.
What is—and is not—proven about swipe accuracy
No independent, current head-to-head swipe-speed or accuracy figure was identified for these keyboards. App-store ratings, download counts and editorial labels are not substitutes for a reproducible test using the same phone, language, text set, correction settings and measurement method.

Accordingly, this guide does not declare SwiftKey, Gboard, Grammarly Keyboard, AnySoftKeyboard, Samsung Keyboard or Fleksy the universal winner. The most defensible choice is the keyboard that performs acceptably with your vocabulary while meeting your privacy, language, writing-assistance and integration requirements.
Decision guide
- Choose SwiftKey first if adaptive predictions for slang, nicknames and emoji are your main concern.
- Choose Grammarly Keyboard first if grammar, spelling and rewriting support matter more than a measured swipe advantage.
- Choose AnySoftKeyboard first if an open-source, privacy-oriented project is your priority and you are willing to verify language-pack support.
- Choose Samsung Keyboard first if you use a Galaxy phone and native integration already meets your needs.
- Keep Gboard if you rely on its broad language coverage, voice or handwriting input, translation, one-handed mode or themes.
- Try Fleksy when customization is the deciding factor, after checking its current swipe and language capabilities.
Bottom line
Start with SwiftKey for the closest prediction-focused alternative to Gboard, Grammarly Keyboard for built-in writing help, AnySoftKeyboard for an open-source direction and Samsung Keyboard for Galaxy integration. Test each with your own languages and vocabulary for several days, review permissions after setup and ignore claims of a universal swipe-accuracy champion until a fair, current benchmark exists.
